וּלְנָעֳמִי מידע מוֹדָע לְאִישָׁהּ, אִישׁ גִּבּוֹר חַיִל--מִמִּשְׁפַּחַת, אֱלִימֶלֶךְ: וּשְׁמוֹ, בֹּעַז.
ul'na'omi moda l'ishah, ish gibbor khayil--mi'mishpakhat, elimelekh: u'shmo, bo'az.
And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of valour, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.
2.
וַתֹּאמֶר רוּת הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּה אֶל-נָעֳמִי, אֵלְכָה-נָּא הַשָּׂדֶה וַאֲלַקֳּטָה בַשִּׁבֳּלִים--אַחַר, אֲשֶׁר אֶמְצָא-חֵן בְּעֵינָיו; וַתֹּאמֶר לָהּ, לְכִי בִתִּי.
vattomer rut ha'mo'aviyah el-na'omi, elekha-na ve'alakkotah ba'shibbolim--akhar, asher emtza-khen be'einav; vattomer lah, lekhi vitti.
And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi: 'Let me now go to the field, and glean among the ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find favour.' And she said unto her: 'Go, my daughter.'

וַתֵּלֶךְ וַתָּבוֹא וַתְּלַקֵּט בַּשָּׂדֶה, אַחֲרֵי הַקֹּצְרִים; וַיִּקֶר מִקְרֶהָ--חֶלְקַת הַשָּׂדֶה לְבֹעַז, אֲשֶׁר מִמִּשְׁפַּחַת אֱלִימֶלֶךְ.
vattelkhet vattavo vattelaquet bassadeh, akharei haqqotzerim; vayyiqar miqreha—khelqat hassadeh levo'az, asher mimmishpakhat Elimelekh.
And she went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and her hap was to light on the portion of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.

וְהִנֵּה-בֹעַז, בָּא מִבֵּית לֶחֶם, וַיֹּאמֶר לַקּוֹצְרִים, יְהוָה עִמָּכֶם; וַיֹּאמְרוּ לוֹ, יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה.
vehinneh-Vo'az, ba mibbeit lekhem, vayyomer laqqotzerim, YHWH immakhem; vayyomru lo, yevarekhekha YHWH.
And, behold, Boaz came from Beth-lehem, and said unto the reapers: 'The LORD be with you.' And they answered him: 'The LORD bless thee.'
5.
וַיֹּאמֶר בֹּעַז לְנַעֲרוֹ, הַנִּצָּב עַל-הַקּוֹצְרִים: לְמִי, הַנַּעֲרָה הַזֹּאת.
vayyomer Bo'az lena'aro, hannitzav al-haqqotzerim: lemi, hanna'arah hazzot.
Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers: 'Whose damsel is this?'
6.
וַיַּעַן, הַנַּעַר הַנִּצָּב עַל-הַקּוֹצְרִים--וַיֹּאמַר: נַעֲרָה מוֹאֲבִיָּה הִיא, הַשָּׁבָה עִם-נָעֳמִי מִשְּׂדֵי מוֹאָב.
vayya'an, hanna'ar hannitzav al-haqqotzerim—vayyomar: na'arah mo'aviyah hi, hashavah im-Na'omi missedei Mo'av.
And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said: 'It is a Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the field of Moab;
7.
וַתֹּאמֶר, אֲלַקֳּטָה-נָּא וְאָסַפְתִּי בָעֳמָרִים, אַחֲרֵי, הַקּוֹצְרִים; וַתָּבוֹא וַתַּעֲמוֹד, מֵאָז הַבֹּקֶר וְעַד-עַתָּה--זֶה שִׁבְתָּהּ הַבַּיִת, מְעָט.
vato'mer alako'tah-na ve'asafti va'omarim akharei hako'tzrim vathavo vatha'amod me'az haboker ve'ad-'atah zeh shivtah habayit me'at.
and she said: Let me glean, I pray you, and gather after the reapers among the sheaves; so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, save that she tarried a little in the house.'
8.
וַיֹּאמֶר בֹּעַז אֶל-רוּת הֲלוֹא שָׁמַעַתְּ בִּתִּי, אַל-תֵּלְכִי לִלְקֹט בְּשָׂדֶה אַחֵר, וְגַם לֹא תַעֲבוּרִי, מִזֶּה; וְכֹה תִדְבָּקִין, עִם-נַעֲרֹתָי.
vayo'mer bo'az el-rut halo shama'at biti al-telkhi lilkot besadeh akher vegam lo ta'avuri mizeh vekho tidbakin im-na'arotay.
Then said Boaz unto Ruth: 'Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither pass from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens.
9.
עֵינַיִךְ בַּשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר-יִקְצֹרוּן, וְהָלַכְתְּ אַחֲרֵיהֶן--הֲלוֹא צִוִּיתִי אֶת-הַנְּעָרִים, לְבִלְתִּי נָגְעֵךְ; וְצָמִת, וְהָלַכְתְּ אֶל-הַכֵּלִים, וְשָׁתִית, מֵאֲשֶׁר יִשְׁאֲבוּן הַנְּעָרִים.
einayikh bassadeh asher-yiktzorun vehalkhtet akhareihen halo tziviti et-han'arim levilti nage'ekh vetzamit vehalkhtet el-hakeelim veshatit me'asher yish'avun han'arim.
Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them; have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.'
10.
וַתִּפֹּל, עַל-פָּנֶיהָ, וַתִּשְׁתַּחוּ, אָרְצָה; וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו, מַדּוּעַ מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ לְהַכִּירֵנִי--וְאָנֹכִי, נָכְרִיָּה.
vatifol al-paneha vatishtakhu ar'tsah vato'mer elav madu'a matzati khen be'eineykha lehakireni ve'anokhi nokriyah.
Then she fell on her face, and bowed down to the ground, and said unto him: 'Why have I found favour in thy sight, that thou shouldest take cognizance of me, seeing I am a foreigner?'
11.
וַיַּעַן בֹּעַז, וַיֹּאמֶר לָהּ--הֻגֵּד הֻגַּד לִי כֹּל אֲשֶׁר-עָשִׂית אֶת-חֲמוֹתֵךְ, אַחֲרֵי מוֹת אִישֵׁךְ; וַתַּעַזְבִי אָבִיךְ וְאִמֵּךְ, וְאֶרֶץ מוֹלַדְתֵּךְ, וַתֵּלְכִי, אֶל-עַם אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יָדַעַתְּ תְּמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹם.
vay'an Bo'az, vayomer lah--hugeg hugad li kol asher-asit et-khamotek, akharei mot ishikh; vata'azvi avikh ve'imek, ve'eretz moladtek, vatelekhi, el-am asher lo-yada'at temol shilshom.
And Boaz answered and said unto her: 'It hath fully been told me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother-in-law since the death of thy husband; and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people that thou knewest not heretofore.
12.
יְשַׁלֵּם יְהוָה, פָּעֳלֵךְ; וּתְהִי מַשְׂכֻּרְתֵּךְ שְׁלֵמָה, מֵעִם יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֲשֶׁר-בָּאת, לַחֲסוֹת תַּחַת-כְּנָפָיו.
yeshalem YHWH, po'alek; utehi maskurtek shelemah, me'im YHWH Elohei Yisrael, asher-bat, lakhasot takhat-kenafav.
The LORD recompense thy work, and be thy reward complete from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to take refuge.'
13.
וַתֹּאמֶר אֶמְצָא-חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ אֲדֹנִי, כִּי נִחַמְתָּנִי, וְכִי דִבַּרְתָּ, עַל-לֵב שִׁפְחָתֶךָ; וְאָנֹכִי לֹא אֶהְיֶה, כְּאַחַת שִׁפְחֹתֶיךָ.
vatomer emtsa-khen be'eynekha adoni, ki nikhamtani, vekhi dibarta, al-lev shifkhatekha; ve'anokhi lo ehyeh, ke'akhat shifkhotekha.
Then she said: 'Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken to the heart of thy handmaid, though I be not as one of thy handmaidens.'
14.
וַיֹּאמֶר לָה בֹעַז לְעֵת הָאֹכֶל, גֹּשִׁי הֲלֹם וְאָכַלְתְּ מִן-הַלֶּחֶם, וְטָבַלְתְּ פִּתֵּךְ, בַּחֹמֶץ; וַתֵּשֶׁב, מִצַּד הַקֹּצְרִים, וַיִּצְבָּט-לָהּ קָלִי, וַתֹּאכַל וַתִּשְׂבַּע וַתֹּתַר.
vayomer lah Vo'az le'et ha'okhel, goshi halom ve'akhalt min-ha-lekhem, vetavalt pitek, bakhometץ; vateshev, mitzad ha-qotzerim, vayitzbat-lah qali, vato'hal vatisba vatedar.
And Boaz said unto her at meal-time: 'Come hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar.' And she sat beside the reapers; and they reached her parched corn, and she did eat and was satisfied, and left thereof.
15.
וַתָּקָם, לְלַקֵּט; וַיְצַו בֹּעַז אֶת-נְעָרָיו לֵאמֹר, גַּם בֵּין הָעֳמָרִים תְּלַקֵּט--וְלֹא תַכְלִימוּהָ.
vattakam lelaket vaytzav Bo'az et nearav lemor gam bein ha'omarim telaket velo taklimuha.
And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying: 'Let her glean even among the sheaves, and put her not to shame.
16.
וְגַם שֹׁל-תָּשֹׁלּוּ לָהּ, מִן-הַצְּבָתִים; וַעֲזַבְתֶּם וְלִקְּטָה, וְלֹא תִגְעֲרוּ-בָהּ.
vegam shol tashollu lah min hatzevatim va'azavtem veliketah velo tig'aru vah.
And also pull out some for her of purpose from the bundles, and leave it, and let her glean, and rebuke her not.'
17.
וַתְּלַקֵּט בַּשָּׂדֶה, עַד-הָעָרֶב; וַתַּחְבֹּט אֵת אֲשֶׁר-לִקֵּטָה, וַיְהִי כְּאֵיפָה שְׂעֹרִים.
vatlelaket basadeh ad ha'arev vattachbot et asher liketah vayhi k'eifah se'orim.
So she gleaned in the field until even; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.
18.
וַתִּשָּׂא וַתָּבוֹא הָעִיר, וַתֵּרֶא חֲמוֹתָהּ אֵת אֲשֶׁר-לִקֵּטָה; וַתּוֹצֵא, וַתִּתֶּן-לָהּ, אֵת אֲשֶׁר-הוֹתִרָה, מִשָּׂבְעָהּ.
vattisa vattavo ha'ir vattere chamotah et asher liketah vattoze vattiten lah et asher hotirah missav'ah.
And she took it up, and went into the city; and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought forth and gave to her that which she had left after she was satisfied.
19.
וַתֹּאמֶר לָהּ חֲמוֹתָהּ אֵיפֹה לִקַּטְתְּ הַיּוֹם, וְאָנָה עָשִׂית--יְהִי מַכִּירֵךְ, בָּרוּךְ; וַתַּגֵּד לַחֲמוֹתָהּ, אֵת אֲשֶׁר-עָשְׂתָה עִמּוֹ, וַתֹּאמֶר שֵׁם הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי עִמּוֹ הַיּוֹם, בֹּעַז.
vato'mer lah khamotah efo likat t ha-yom, ve'ana asit--yehi makirekh, barukh; vataged lakhamotah, et asher-aseta imo, vato'mer shem ha-ish asher asiti imo ha-yom, bo'az.
And her mother-in-law said unto her: 'Where hast thou gleaned to-day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee.' And she told her mother-in-law with whom she had wrought, and said: 'The man's name with whom I wrought to-day is Boaz.'
20.
וַתֹּאמֶר נָעֳמִי לְכַלָּתָהּ, בָּרוּךְ הוּא לַיהוָה, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-עָזַב חַסְדּוֹ, אֶת-הַחַיִּים וְאֶת-הַמֵּתִים; וַתֹּאמֶר לָהּ נָעֳמִי, קָרוֹב לָנוּ הָאִישׁ--מִגֹּאֲלֵנוּ, הוּא.
vato'mer no'ami lekhalatah, barukh hu la-Adonai, asher lo-azav khasdo, et-ha-khayim ve'et-ha-metim; vato'mer lah no'ami, karov lanu ha-ish--migo'alenu, hu.
And Naomi said unto her daughter-in-law: 'Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off His kindness to the living and to the dead.' And Naomi said unto her: 'The man is nigh of kin unto us, one of our near kinsmen.'
21.
וַתֹּאמֶר, רוּת הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּה: גַּם כִּי-אָמַר אֵלַי, עִם-הַנְּעָרִים אֲשֶׁר-לִי תִּדְבָּקִין, עַד אִם-כִּלּוּ, אֵת כָּל-הַקָּצִיר אֲשֶׁר-לִי.
vato'mer, rut ha-mo'aviyah: gam ki-amar elay, im-ha-ne'arim asher-li tidbakin, ad im-killu, et kol-ha-katzir asher-li.
And Ruth the Moabitess said: 'Yea, he said unto me: Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.'
22.
וַתֹּאמֶר נָעֳמִי, אֶל-רוּת כַּלָּתָהּ: טוֹב בִּתִּי, כִּי תֵצְאִי עִם-נַעֲרוֹתָיו, וְלֹא יִפְגְּעוּ-בָךְ, בְּשָׂדֶה אַחֵר.
vato'mer no'ami, el-rut kallatah: tov bitti, ki tets'i im-na'arotav, ve'lo yifge'u-vakh, be-sadeh akher.
And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter-in-law: 'It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, and that thou be not met in any other field.'
23.
וַתִּדְבַּק בְּנַעֲרוֹת בֹּעַז, לְלַקֵּט--עַד-כְּלוֹת קְצִיר-הַשְּׂעֹרִים, וּקְצִיר הַחִטִּים; וַתֵּשֶׁב, אֶת-חֲמוֹתָהּ.
vattidbak bena'arot Bo'atz, lelaket--ad-kelot ketzir-hasse'orim, uktzir hachittim; vateshev, et-chamotah.
So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and she dwelt with her mother-in-law.
