וַיְהִי הַגּוֹרָל לְמַטֵּה מְנַשֶּׁה, כִּי-הוּא בְּכוֹר יוֹסֵף--לְמָכִיר בְּכוֹר מְנַשֶּׁה אֲבִי הַגִּלְעָד, כִּי הוּא הָיָה אִישׁ מִלְחָמָה, וַיְהִי-לוֹ, הַגִּלְעָד וְהַבָּשָׁן.
vayhi hagoral lmateh menasheh ki-hu bekhor Yosef lemakhir bekhor menasheh avi hagil'ad ki hu hayah ish milkhamah vayhi-lo hagil'ad vehabashan.
And this was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the first-born of Joseph. As for Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.
2.
וַיְהִי לִבְנֵי מְנַשֶּׁה הַנּוֹתָרִים, לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם--לִבְנֵי אֲבִיעֶזֶר וְלִבְנֵי-חֵלֶק וְלִבְנֵי אַשְׂרִיאֵל וְלִבְנֵי-שֶׁכֶם, וְלִבְנֵי-חֵפֶר וְלִבְנֵי שְׁמִידָע; אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי מְנַשֶּׁה בֶּן-יוֹסֵף, הַזְּכָרִים--לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם.
vayhi livnei menasheh hanotarim lemishpokhotam livnei avi'ezer velivnei-khelek velivnei asri'el velivnei-shekhem velivnei-khefer velivnei shemidaf eleh benei menasheh ben-Yosef hazekarim lemishpokhotam.
And the lot was for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida; these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

וְלִצְלָפְחָד בֶּן-חֵפֶר בֶּן-גִּלְעָד בֶּן-מָכִיר בֶּן-מְנַשֶּׁה, לֹא-הָיוּ לוֹ בָּנִים--כִּי אִם-בָּנוֹת; וְאֵלֶּה, שְׁמוֹת בְּנֹתָיו--מַחְלָה וְנֹעָה, חָגְלָה מִלְכָּה וְתִרְצָה.
velitzlafkhad ben-khefer ben-gil'ad ben-makhir ben-menasheh lo-hayu lo banim ki im-banot ve'eleh shemot benotav makhlah vena'ah khaglah milkah vetirtah.
But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

וַתִּקְרַבְנָה לִפְנֵי אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וְלִפְנֵי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן, וְלִפְנֵי הַנְּשִׂיאִים לֵאמֹר, יְהוָה צִוָּה אֶת-מֹשֶׁה, לָתֶת-לָנוּ נַחֲלָה בְּתוֹךְ אַחֵינוּ; וַיִּתֵּן לָהֶם אֶל-פִּי יְהוָה, נַחֲלָה, בְּתוֹךְ, אֲחֵי אֲבִיהֶן.
vattikravnah lifnei El'azar hakohen velipnei Yehoshua ben-nun velipnei hanneshi'im lemor YHWH tzivvah et-Mosheh latet-lanu nakhalah betokh akheinu vayyitten lahem el-pi YHWH nakhalah betokh akhei avihen.
And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying: 'The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren'; therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
5.
וַיִּפְּלוּ חַבְלֵי-מְנַשֶּׁה, עֲשָׂרָה--לְבַד מֵאֶרֶץ הַגִּלְעָד, וְהַבָּשָׁן, אֲשֶׁר, מֵעֵבֶר לַיַּרְדֵּן.
vayippelu khavlei-menasheh, asarah--levad me'eretz hagil'ad, vehabashan, asher, me'ever layarden.
And there fell ten parts to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;
6.
כִּי בְּנוֹת מְנַשֶּׁה, נָחֲלוּ נַחֲלָה בְּתוֹךְ בָּנָיו; וְאֶרֶץ, הַגִּלְעָד, הָיְתָה, לִבְנֵי-מְנַשֶּׁה הַנּוֹתָרִים.
ki benot menasheh, nakhalulu nakhalah betokh banav; ve'eretz, hagil'ad, hayetah, livnei-menasheh hannotarim.
because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons; and the land of Gilead belonged unto the rest of the sons of Manasseh.
7.
וַיְהִי גְבוּל-מְנַשֶּׁה, מֵאָשֵׁר, הַמִּכְמְתָת, אֲשֶׁר עַל-פְּנֵי שְׁכֶם; וְהָלַךְ הַגְּבוּל אֶל-הַיָּמִין, אֶל-יֹשְׁבֵי עֵין תַּפּוּחַ.
vayhi gevul-menasheh, me'asher, hammikhematat, asher al-penei shekhem; vehalakh hagevul el-hayamim, el-yoshvei ein tappuach.
And the border of Manasseh was, beginning from Asher, Michmethath, which is before Shechem; and the border went along to the right hand, unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.--
8.
לִמְנַשֶּׁה, הָיְתָה אֶרֶץ תַּפּוּחַ; וְתַפּוּחַ אֶל-גְּבוּל מְנַשֶּׁה, לִבְנֵי אֶפְרָיִם.
limnasheh, hayetah eretz tappuach; vetappuach el-gevul menasheh, livnei efrayim.
The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh; but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim.--
9.
וְיָרַד הַגְּבוּל נַחַל קָנָה נֶגְבָּה לַנַּחַל, עָרִים הָאֵלֶּה לְאֶפְרַיִם, בְּתוֹךְ, עָרֵי מְנַשֶּׁה; וּגְבוּל מְנַשֶּׁה מִצְּפוֹן לַנַּחַל, וַיְהִי תֹצְאֹתָיו הַיָּמָּה.
veyarad hagevul nakhal kanah negbah lanakhal, arim ha'eleh le'efrayim, betokh, arei menasheh; ugevul menasheh mitzfon lanakhal, vayhi totzotav hayammah.
And the border went down unto the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook, by cities which belonged to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh; but the border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook; and the goings out thereof were at the sea:
10.
נֶגְבָּה לְאֶפְרַיִם, וְצָפוֹנָה לִמְנַשֶּׁה, וַיְהִי הַיָּם, גְּבוּלוֹ; וּבְאָשֵׁר יִפְגְּעוּן מִצָּפוֹן, וּבְיִשָּׂשכָר מִמִּזְרָח.
negbah le'efrayim, vetzafonah limnasheh, vayhi hayam, gevulo; uve'asher yifge'un mitzafon, uveyissakhar mimmizrakh.
southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was his border; and they reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east.
11.
וַיְהִי לִמְנַשֶּׁה בְּיִשָּׂשכָר וּבְאָשֵׁר, בֵּית-שְׁאָן וּבְנוֹתֶיהָ וְיִבְלְעָם וּבְנוֹתֶיהָ וְאֶת-יֹשְׁבֵי דֹאר וּבְנוֹתֶיהָ וְיֹשְׁבֵי עֵין-דֹּר וּבְנוֹתֶיהָ, וְיֹשְׁבֵי תַעְנַךְ וּבְנֹתֶיהָ, וְיֹשְׁבֵי מְגִדּוֹ וּבְנוֹתֶיהָ--שְׁלֹשֶׁת, הַנָּפֶת.
vayhi limnasheh beyissakhar uve'asher, beit-she'an uvenoteha viyvle'am uvenoteha ve'et-yoshvei dor uvenoteha veyoshvei ein-dor uvenoteha, veyoshvei ta'nakh uvenoteha, veyoshvei megido uvenoteha--sheloshet, hannafet.
And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, even the three regions.
12.
וְלֹא יָכְלוּ בְּנֵי מְנַשֶּׁה, לְהוֹרִישׁ אֶת-הֶעָרִים הָאֵלֶּה; וַיּוֹאֶל, הַכְּנַעֲנִי, לָשֶׁבֶת, בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת.
velo yakhalu benei menasheh, lehorish et-he'arim ha'eleh; vayo'el, hakenani, lashevet, ba'aretz hazzot.
Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites were resolved to dwell in that land.
13.
וַיְהִי, כִּי חָזְקוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַיִּתְּנוּ אֶת-הַכְּנַעֲנִי, לָמַס; וְהוֹרֵשׁ, לֹא הוֹרִישׁוֹ.
vayhi ki khazqu bene yisrael vayittenu et hakna'ani lamas vehores lo horisho
And it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, but did not utterly drive them out.
14.
וַיְדַבְּרוּ בְּנֵי יוֹסֵף, אֶת-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לֵאמֹר: מַדּוּעַ נָתַתָּה לִּי נַחֲלָה, גּוֹרָל אֶחָד וְחֶבֶל אֶחָד, וַאֲנִי עַם-רָב, עַד אֲשֶׁר-עַד-כֹּה בֵּרְכַנִי יְהוָה.
vaydabru bene yosef et yehoshua lemor madu'a natata li nakhalah goral ekhad vekhebel ekhad va'ani am rav ad asher ad koh berakhani YHWH
And the children of Joseph spoke unto Joshua, saying: 'Why hast thou given me but one lot and one part for an inheritance, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me thus?'
15.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם יְהוֹשֻׁעַ, אִם-עַם-רַב אַתָּה עֲלֵה לְךָ הַיַּעְרָה, וּבֵרֵאתָ לְךָ שָׁם, בְּאֶרֶץ הַפְּרִזִּי וְהָרְפָאִים: כִּי-אָץ לְךָ, הַר-אֶפְרָיִם.
vayomer alehem yehoshua im am rav ata aleh lekha hayarah uvereta lekha sham be'eret haperizi vehara'im ki at lekha har efrayim
And Joshua said unto them: 'If thou be a great people, get thee up to the forest, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim; since the hill-country of Ephraim is too narrow for thee.'
16.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ בְּנֵי יוֹסֵף, לֹא-יִמָּצֵא לָנוּ הָהָר; וְרֶכֶב בַּרְזֶל, בְּכָל-הַכְּנַעֲנִי הַיֹּשֵׁב בְּאֶרֶץ-הָעֵמֶק, לַאֲשֶׁר בְּבֵית-שְׁאָן וּבְנוֹתֶיהָ, וְלַאֲשֶׁר בְּעֵמֶק יִזְרְעֶאל.
vayomru bene yosef lo yimtse lanu hahar vereKhev barzel bekhal hakna'ani hayoshev be'eretz ha'emeq la'asher beveit she'an uvenoteha vela'asher be'emeq yizre'el
And the children of Joseph said: 'The hill-country will not be enough for us; and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are in Beth-shean and its towns, and they who are in the valley of Jezreel.'
17.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל-בֵּית יוֹסֵף, לְאֶפְרַיִם וְלִמְנַשֶּׁה לֵאמֹר: עַם-רַב אַתָּה, וְכֹחַ גָּדוֹל לָךְ--לֹא-יִהְיֶה לְךָ, גּוֹרָל אֶחָד.
Vayomer Yehoshua el-beit Yosef, le'Efrayim velimnasheh lemor: am-rav atah, vekokhah gadol lakh--lo-yihyeh lekha, goral echad.
And Joshua spoke unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying: 'Thou art a great people, and hast great power; thou shalt not have one lot only;
18.
כִּי הַר יִהְיֶה-לָּךְ, כִּי-יַעַר הוּא, וּבֵרֵאתוֹ, וְהָיָה לְךָ תֹּצְאֹתָיו: כִּי-תוֹרִישׁ אֶת-הַכְּנַעֲנִי, כִּי רֶכֶב בַּרְזֶל לוֹ--כִּי חָזָק, הוּא.
ki har yihyeh-lakh, ki-ya'ar hu, uvereto, vehayah lekha totze'otav: ki-torish et-hakna'ani, ki rekhev barzel lo--ki khazak, hu.
but the hill-country shall be thine; for though it is a forest, thou shalt cut it down, and the goings out thereof shall be thine; for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they be strong.'
