4.
vayetzu hem vekhal-maḥaneihem imam am-rav kaḥol asher al-s'fat-hayam larov vesus varekev rav-m'od
And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.
5.
vayiva'adu, kol hamlakim ha'eleh; vayavo'u vayachanu yachdav, el-mei merom, lehillachem, im-Yisrael.
And all these kings met together, and they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.
6.
vayomer YHWH el-Yehoshua, al-tira mipnehem--ki-machar ka'et hazot anochi noten et-kulam chalalim, lifnei Yisrael; et-suseihem te'aker, ve'et-markevoteihem tisrof ba'esh.
And the LORD said unto Joshua: 'Be not afraid because of them; for to-morrow at this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel; thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.'
7.
vayavo Yehoshua vechal-am hamilchamah immo aleihem, al-mei merom--pit'om; vayip'lu, bahem.
So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them.
8.
vayitnenem YHWH beyad-Yisrael, vayakkum, vayirdefum ad-Tzidon rabah ve'ad misrefot mayim, ve'ad-bik'at mitzpeh mizrachah; vayakkum, ad-bilti hishir-lahem sarid.
And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.
9.
vaya'as lahem Yehoshua, ka'asher amar-lo YHWH: et-suseihem iqqer, ve'et-markevoteihem saraf ba'esh.
And Joshua did unto them as the LORD bade him; he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.
10.
vayashav Yehoshua ba'et hahi, vayyilkod et-hatzor, ve'et malkah, hikhah vecharev: ki-hatzor lepanim--hi, rosh kol-hamamlachot ha'elleh.
And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.
11.
vayyakku et-kol-hanefesh asher-bah lefi-cherev, hacharem--lo notar, kol-neshamah; ve'et hatzor, saraf ba'esh.
And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed; and he burnt Hazor with fire.
12.
ve'et-kol-arei hamelachim-ha'elleh ve'et-kol-malkeihem lachad Yehoshua, vayyakkem lefi-cherev--hecherim otam: ka'asher tzivwah, Moshe eved YHWH.
And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.
13.
rak kol-he'arim, ha'omdot al-tillam--lo serafam, Yisrael: zulati et-hatzor levadah, saraf Yehoshua.
But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only--that did Joshua burn.
14.
vekhol shelal he'arim ha'eleh, vehabehemah, bazzu lahem, bene Yisrael: rak et-kol-ha'adam hikku lefi-cherev, ad-hishmidam otam--lo hishiru, kol-neshamah.
And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed.
15.
ka'asher tzivwah YHWH et-Mosheh avdo, ken-tzivwah Mosheh et-Yehoshua; veken, asah Yehoshua--lo-hesir davar, mikkol asher-tzivwah YHWH et-Mosheh.
As the LORD commanded Moses His servant, so did Moses command Joshua; and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.
16.
vayyiqqach Yehoshua et-kol-ha'aretz hazzot, hahar ve'et-kol-hannegev ve'et kol-eretz hagoshen, ve'et-hashpelah, ve'et-ha'aravah; ve'et-har Yisrael, ushfelatoh.
So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the Lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the Lowland of the same;
17.
min-ha'har he'khalak, ha'ole se'ir, ve'ad-ba'al gad be'vik'at ha'levanon, takhat har-khermon; ve'et kol-malkheyhem lakad, vayakem vaymitem.
from the bare mountain, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon; and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death.
18.
yamim rabim, asah yehoshua et-kol-ha'melakhim ha'eleh--milkhamah.
Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
19.
lo-hayetah ir, asher hishilimah el-bnei yisrael, bilti ha'khivi, yoshve giv'on: et-hakol, lakhu vamilkhamah.
There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all in battle.
20.
ki me'et YHWH hayetah lekhazek et-libam likrat ha'milkhamah et-yisrael, lema'an hakharimam, levilti heyot-lahem, tekhinnah: ki lema'an hashmidam, ka'asher tsivwah YHWH et-moshe.
For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that they might be utterly destroyed, that they might have no favour, but that they might be destroyed, as the LORD commanded Moses.
21.
vayavo yehoshua ba'et hahi, vayakhret et-ha'anakim min-hahar min-khevron min-devir min-anav, umikol har yehuda, umikol har yisrael: im-areihem, hekherimam yehoshua.
And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.
22.
lo-notar anakim, be'eretz bene yisrael: rak, be'azza begat uveshdod--nish'aru.
There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.
23.
vayikakh yehoshua et-kol-ha'aretz, kekhol asher diber YHWH el-mosheh, vayitenah yehoshua lenakhala leyisrael kemakhlqotam, leshivteihem; veha'aretz shaqtah, mimmilkhama.
So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD spoke unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.
