1.
וַיִּשְׁבְּתוּ, שְׁלֹשֶׁת הָאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵלֶּה-- מֵעֲנוֹת אֶת-אִיּוֹב:כִּי הוּא צַדִּיק בְּעֵינָיו.
vayishbetu, sheloshet ha'anashim ha'eleh-- me'anot et-iyov: ki hu tzadik be'einayv.
So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
2.
וַיִּחַר אַף, אֱלִיהוּא בֶן-בַּרַכְאֵל הַבּוּזִי-- מִמִּשְׁפַּחַת-רָם:בְּאִיּוֹב, חָרָה אַפּוֹ-- עַל-צַדְּקוֹ נַפְשׁוֹ, מֵאֱלֹהִים.
vayihar af, elihu ven-barak'el habuzi-- mimishpahat-ram: be'iyov, harah apo-- al-tzadko nafsho, me'elohim.
Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram; against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

וּבִשְׁלֹשֶׁת רֵעָיו, חָרָה אַפּוֹ:עַל אֲשֶׁר לֹא-מָצְאוּ מַעֲנֶה-- וַיַּרְשִׁיעוּ, אֶת-אִיּוֹב.
uvishetroshet re'av, kharah appo: 'al asher lo-matze'u ma'aneh-- vayyarshivu, et-iyyov.
Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

וֶאֱלִיהוּ--חִכָּה אֶת-אִיּוֹב, בִּדְבָרִים: כִּי זְקֵנִים-הֵמָּה מִמֶּנּוּ לְיָמִים.
ve'elihu--chikka et-iyyov, bidvarim: ki zkenim-hemmah mimmennu layamim.
Now Elihu had waited to speak unto Job, because they were older than he.
5.
וַיַּרְא אֱלִיהוּא--כִּי אֵין מַעֲנֶה, בְּפִי שְׁלֹשֶׁת הָאֲנָשִׁים; וַיִּחַר אַפּוֹ.
vayyar elihu--ki ein ma'aneh, befi sheloshet ha'anashim; vayykhar appo.
And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled.

וַיַּעַן, אֱלִיהוּא בֶן-בַּרַכְאֵל הַבּוּזִי-- וַיֹּאמַר:צָעִיר אֲנִי לְיָמִים, וְאַתֶּם יְשִׁישִׁים;עַל-כֵּן זָחַלְתִּי וָאִירָא, מֵחַוֺּת דֵּעִי אֶתְכֶם.
vaya'an, elihu ven-barakh'el habuzi-- vayyomar: tza'ir ani layamim, ve'attem yeshishim; 'al-ken zakhalti va'ira, mekhavvot dei'i etkhem.
And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said: I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I held back, and durst not declare you mine opinion.
7.
אָמַרְתִּי, יָמִים יְדַבֵּרוּ; וְרֹב שָׁנִים, יֹדִיעוּ חָכְמָה.
amarti, yamim yedaberu; verov shanim, yodi'u khokhmah.
I said: 'Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.'
8.
אָכֵן, רוּחַ-הִיא בֶאֱנוֹשׁ; וְנִשְׁמַת שַׁדַּי תְּבִינֵם.
akhen, ruakh-hi ve'enosh; venishmat shaddai tevinem.
But it is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty, that giveth them understanding.
9.
לֹא-רַבִּים יֶחְכָּמוּ; וּזְקֵנִים, יָבִינוּ מִשְׁפָּט.
lo-rabbim yekhkamu; uzeqenim, yavinu mishpat.
It is not the great that are wise, nor the aged that discern judgment.
10.
לָכֵן אָמַרְתִּי, שִׁמְעָה-לִּי; אֲחַוֶּה דֵעִי אַף-אָנִי.
lakhen amarti, shim'ah-li; akhavveh de'i af-ani.
Therefore I say: 'Hearken to me; I also will declare mine opinion.'
11.
הֵן הוֹחַלְתִּי, לְדִבְרֵיכֶם--אָזִין, עַד-תְּבוּנֹתֵיכֶם: עַד-תַּחְקְרוּן מִלִּין.
Hen hokhalti, ledivreikhem--azin, ad-tevunotekhem: ad-tahkerun millin.
Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.
12.
וְעָדֵיכֶם, אֶתְבּוֹנָן: וְהִנֵּה אֵין לְאִיּוֹב מוֹכִיחַ--עוֹנֶה אֲמָרָיו מִכֶּם.
Ve'adeikhem, etbonan: vehinneh ein le'iyov mokhiah--one amarav mikhem.
Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none that convinced Job, or that answered his words, among you.
13.
פֶּן-תֹּאמְרוּ, מָצָאנוּ חָכְמָה; אֵל יִדְּפֶנּוּ לֹא-אִישׁ.
Pen-tomru, matzanu khakhmah; el yiddefennu lo-ish.
Beware lest ye say: 'We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not man!'
14.
וְלֹא-עָרַךְ אֵלַי מִלִּין; וּבְאִמְרֵיכֶם, לֹא אֲשִׁיבֶנּוּ.
Velo-arakh elay millin; uve'amreikhem, lo ashivennu.
For he hath not directed his words against me; neither will I answer him with your speeches.
15.
חַתּוּ, לֹא-עָנוּ עוֹד; הֶעְתִּיקוּ מֵהֶם מִלִּים.
khattu, lo-anu od; he'tiku mehem millim.
They are amazed, they answer no more; words are departed from them.
16.
וְהוֹחַלְתִּי, כִּי-לֹא יְדַבֵּרוּ: כִּי עָמְדוּ, לֹא-עָנוּ עוֹד.
vehochalti, ki-lo yedabberu: ki amdu, lo-anu od.
And shall I wait, because they speak not, because they stand still, and answer no more?
17.
אַעֲנֶה אַף-אֲנִי חֶלְקִי; אֲחַוֶּה דֵעִי אַף-אָנִי.
a'aneh af-ani khelki; akhavveh dei af-ani.
I also will answer my part, I also will declare mine opinion.
18.
כִּי, מָלֵתִי מִלִּים; הֱצִיקַתְנִי, רוּחַ בִּטְנִי.
ki, maleti millim; hetzikatni, ruakh bitni.
For I am full of words; the spirit within me constraineth me.
19.
הִנֵּה-בִטְנִי--כְּיַיִן לֹא-יִפָּתֵחַ; כְּאֹבוֹת חֲדָשִׁים, יִבָּקֵעַ.
hinei-vitni--keyayin lo-yipateakh; ke'ovot khadashim, yivake'a.
Behold, mine inwards are as wine which hath no vent; like new wine-skins which are ready to burst.
20.
אֲדַבְּרָה וְיִרְוַח-לִי; אֶפְתַּח שְׂפָתַי וְאֶעֱנֶה.
adabera veyirvakh-li; eftakh sefatay ve'e'eneh.
I will speak, that I may find relief; I will open my lips and answer.
21.
אַל-נָא, אֶשָּׂא פְנֵי-אִישׁ; וְאֶל-אָדָם, לֹא אֲכַנֶּה.
al-na, esa fenei-ish; ve'el-adam, lo akhaneh.
Let me not, I pray you, respect any man's person; neither will I give flattering titles unto any man.
22.
כִּי לֹא יָדַעְתִּי אֲכַנֶּה; כִּמְעַט, יִשָּׂאֵנִי עֹשֵׂנִי.
ki lo yada'ti akhaneh; kim'at, yisa'eni oseeni.
For I know not to give flattering titles; else would my Maker soon take me away.
