1.
כֹּה, אָמַר יְהוָה, מָצָא חֵן בַּמִּדְבָּר, עַם שְׂרִידֵי חָרֶב; הָלוֹךְ לְהַרְגִּיעוֹ, יִשְׂרָאֵל.
Koh amar YHWH matza khen bamidbar am seride kharev halokh lehargio Yisrael.
Thus saith the LORD: the people that were left of the sword have found grace in the wilderness, even Israel, when I go to cause him to rest.
2.
מֵרָחוֹק, יְהוָה נִרְאָה לִי; וְאַהֲבַת עוֹלָם אֲהַבְתִּיךְ, עַל-כֵּן מְשַׁכְתִּיךְ חָסֶד.
Merakhok YHWH nir'ah li ve'ahavat olam ahavtikh al-ken meshatikhi khasid.
'From afar the LORD appeared unto me.' 'Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with affection have I drawn thee.
3.
עוֹד אֶבְנֵךְ וְנִבְנֵית, בְּתוּלַת יִשְׂרָאֵל: עוֹד תַּעְדִּי תֻפַּיִךְ, וְיָצָאת בִּמְחוֹל מְשַׂחֲקִים.
Od evnekh venivneit, betulat Yisrael; od ta'di tufaikh, ve'yatsat bimkhol mesakhakim.
Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel; again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.
4.
עוֹד תִּטְּעִי כְרָמִים, בְּהָרֵי שֹׁמְרוֹן; נָטְעוּ נֹטְעִים, וְחִלֵּלוּ.
Od tite'i khoramim, beharei Shomron; nate'u note'im, vekhillelu.
Again shalt thou plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall have the use thereof.
5.
כִּי יֶשׁ-יוֹם, קָרְאוּ נֹצְרִים בְּהַר אֶפְרָיִם; קוּמוּ וְנַעֲלֶה צִיּוֹן, אֶל-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ.
Ki yesh-yom, kar'u notsrim behar Efrayim; kumu ve'na'aleh Tziyon, el-Adonai Eloheinu.
For there shall be a day, that the watchmen shall call upon the mount Ephraim: arise ye, and let us go up to Zion, unto the LORD our God.'
6.
כִּי-כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה, רָנּוּ לְיַעֲקֹב שִׂמְחָה, וְצַהֲלוּ, בְּרֹאשׁ הַגּוֹיִם; הַשְׁמִיעוּ הַלְלוּ, וְאִמְרוּ, הוֹשַׁע יְהוָה אֶת-עַמְּךָ, אֵת שְׁאֵרִית יִשְׂרָאֵל.
Ki-kho amar Adonai, rannu le'Ya'akov simkha, ve'tsahalu, berosh hagoyim; hashmi'u hallu, ve'imru, hosha Adonai et-amkha, et she'arit Yisrael.
For thus saith the LORD: sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout at the head of the nations; announce ye, praise ye, and say: 'O LORD, save Thy people, The remnant of Israel.'
7.
הִנְנִי מֵבִיא אוֹתָם מֵאֶרֶץ צָפוֹן, וְקִבַּצְתִּים מִיַּרְכְּתֵי-אָרֶץ--בָּם עִוֵּר וּפִסֵּחַ, הָרָה וְיֹלֶדֶת יַחְדָּו: קָהָל גָּדוֹל, יָשׁוּבוּ הֵנָּה.
Hinneni mevi otam me'eretz tzafon, vekibatztim miyarketei-aretz--bam iver ufiseach, harah veyoledet yachdav: kahal gadol, yashuvu hennah.
Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together; a great company shall they return hither.
8.
בִּבְכִי יָבֹאוּ, וּבְתַחֲנוּנִים אוֹבִילֵם--אוֹלִיכֵם אֶל-נַחֲלֵי מַיִם, בְּדֶרֶךְ יָשָׁר לֹא יִכָּשְׁלוּ בָּהּ: כִּי-הָיִיתִי לְיִשְׂרָאֵל לְאָב, וְאֶפְרַיִם בְּכֹרִי הוּא.
Bivchi yavo'u, uvtechalunim ovilem--olichem el-nachalei mayim, bederech yashar lo yikashelu bah: ki-hayiti leyisrael le'av, ve'efrayim bechori hu.
They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them; I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is My first-born.
9.
שִׁמְעוּ דְבַר-יְהוָה גּוֹיִם, וְהַגִּידוּ בָאִיִּים מִמֶּרְחָק; וְאִמְרוּ, מְזָרֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל יְקַבְּצֶנּוּ, וּשְׁמָרוֹ, כְּרֹעֶה עֶדְרוֹ.
Shimu devar-YHWH goyim, vehagidu va'iyim mimerchak; ve'imru, mezareh yisrael yekabetzenu, ushemaro, kerocheh edro.
Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say: 'He that scattered Israel doth gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.'
10.
כִּי-פָדָה יְהוָה, אֶת-יַעֲקֹב; וּגְאָלוֹ, מִיַּד חָזָק מִמֶּנּוּ.
Ki-padah YHWH, et-Ya'akov; uge'alo, miyad chazak mimenu.
For the LORD hath ransomed Jacob, and He redeemeth him from the hand of him that is stronger than he.
11.
וּבָאוּ, וְרִנְּנוּ בִמְרוֹם-צִיּוֹן, וְנָהֲרוּ אֶל-טוּב יְהוָה עַל-דָּגָן וְעַל-תִּירֹשׁ וְעַל-יִצְהָר, וְעַל-בְּנֵי-צֹאן וּבָקָר; וְהָיְתָה נַפְשָׁם כְּגַן רָוֶה, וְלֹא-יוֹסִיפוּ לְדַאֲבָה עוֹד.
uva'u, verinnenu vimrom-tziyon, venaharu el-tuv YHWH al-dagan veal-tirosh veal-yitzhar, veal-bene-tzon uvikar; vehayetah nafsham kegan raveh, velo-yosifu leda'avah od.
And they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow unto the goodness of the LORD, to the corn, and to the wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd; and their soul shall be as a watered garden, and they shall not pine any more at all.
12.
אָז תִּשְׂמַח בְּתוּלָה בְּמָחוֹל, וּבַחֻרִים וּזְקֵנִים יַחְדָּו; וְהָפַכְתִּי אֶבְלָם לְשָׂשׂוֹן וְנִחַמְתִּים, וְשִׂמַּחְתִּים מִיגוֹנָם.
az tismach betulah bemachol, uvachurim uzekenim yachdav; vehafachti evlam lesason venichamtim, vesimachtim migonam.
Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
13.
וְרִוֵּיתִי נֶפֶשׁ הַכֹּהֲנִים, דָּשֶׁן; וְעַמִּי אֶת-טוּבִי יִשְׂבָּעוּ, נְאֻם-יְהוָה.
veriviti nefesh hakohanim, dashen; ve'ami et-tuvi yisba'u, neum-YHWH.
And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, saith the LORD.
14.
כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, קוֹל בְּרָמָה נִשְׁמָע נְהִי בְּכִי תַמְרוּרִים--רָחֵל, מְבַכָּה עַל-בָּנֶיהָ; מֵאֲנָה לְהִנָּחֵם עַל-בָּנֶיהָ, כִּי אֵינֶנּוּ.
koh amar YHWH, kol beramah nishma nehi bechi tamrurim--Rachel, mevakah al-baneha; me'anah lehinachem al-baneha, ki einenu.
Thus saith the LORD: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuseth to be comforted for her children, because they are not.
15.
כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, מִנְעִי קוֹלֵךְ מִבֶּכִי, וְעֵינַיִךְ, מִדִּמְעָה: כִּי יֵשׁ שָׂכָר לִפְעֻלָּתֵךְ נְאֻם-יְהוָה, וְשָׁבוּ מֵאֶרֶץ אוֹיֵב.
Koh amar YHWH, min'i qolekh mibekhi, ve'einayikh, middim'ah: ki yesh sakhar lif'ullatek ne'um-YHWH, veshavu me'eretz oyev.
Thus saith the LORD: Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come back from the land of the enemy.
16.
וְיֵשׁ-תִּקְוָה לְאַחֲרִיתֵךְ, נְאֻם-יְהוָה; וְשָׁבוּ בָנִים, לִגְבוּלָם.
Veyesh-tiqvah le'aharitek, ne'um-YHWH; veshavu vanim, ligvulam.
And there is hope for thy future, saith the LORD; and thy children shall return to their own border.
17.
שָׁמוֹעַ שָׁמַעְתִּי, אֶפְרַיִם מִתְנוֹדֵד, יִסַּרְתַּנִי וָאִוָּסֵר, כְּעֵגֶל לֹא לֻמָּד; הֲשִׁבֵנִי וְאָשׁוּבָה, כִּי אַתָּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי.
Shamo'a shama'ti, Efrayim mitnoded, yissartani va'ivaser, ke'egel lo lumad; hashiveni ve'ashuvah, ki attah YHWH Elohay.
I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself: 'Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf untrained; turn thou me, and I shall be turned, for Thou art the LORD my God.
18.
כִּי-אַחֲרֵי שׁוּבִי, נִחַמְתִּי, וְאַחֲרֵי הִוָּדְעִי, סָפַקְתִּי עַל-יָרֵךְ; בֹּשְׁתִּי וְגַם-נִכְלַמְתִּי, כִּי נָשָׂאתִי חֶרְפַּת נְעוּרָי.
Ki-'aharei shuvi, nihamti, ve'aharei hivvad'i, safaqti 'al-yarek; boshti vegam-nikhlamti, ki nasati herpat ne'uray.
Surely after that I was turned, I repented, and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.'
19.
הֲבֵן יַקִּיר לִי אֶפְרַיִם, אִם יֶלֶד שַׁעֲשֻׁעִים--כִּי-מִדֵּי דַבְּרִי בּוֹ, זָכֹר אֶזְכְּרֶנּוּ עוֹד; עַל-כֵּן, הָמוּ מֵעַי לוֹ--רַחֵם אֲרַחֲמֶנּוּ, נְאֻם-יְהוָה.
haven yaqir li Efrayim, im yeled sha'ashu'im--ki-middei davri bo, zakhor ezkherennu od; al-ken, hamu me'ay lo--rakhem arakhamennu, neum-YHWH.
Is Ephraim a darling son unto Me? Is he a child that is dandled? For as often as I speak of him, I do earnestly remember him still; therefore My heart yearneth for him, I will surely have compassion upon him, saith the LORD.
20.
הַצִּיבִי לָךְ צִיֻּנִים, שִׂמִי לָךְ תַּמְרוּרִים--שִׁתִי לִבֵּךְ, לַמְסִלָּה דֶּרֶךְ הלכתי הָלָכְתְּ; שׁוּבִי בְּתוּלַת יִשְׂרָאֵל, שֻׁבִי אֶל-עָרַיִךְ אֵלֶּה.
hatzivi lakh tziyunim, simi lakh tamrurim--shiti libekh, lamsillah derekh halakht; shuvi betulat Yisrael, shuvi el-arayikh elleh.
Set thee up waymarks, make thee guide-posts; set thy heart toward the high-way, even the way by which thou wentest; return, O virgin of Israel, return to these thy cities.
21.
עַד-מָתַי תִּתְחַמָּקִין, הַבַּת הַשּׁוֹבֵבָה: כִּי-בָרָא יְהוָה חֲדָשָׁה בָּאָרֶץ, נְקֵבָה תְּסוֹבֵב גָּבֶר.
ad-matay titkhamakin, habat hashovevah: ki-bara YHWH khadashah ba'aretz, neqevah tesovev gaver.
How long wilt thou turn away coyly, O thou backsliding daughter? For the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall court a man.
22.
כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, עוֹד יֹאמְרוּ אֶת-הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה בְּאֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה וּבְעָרָיו, בְּשׁוּבִי אֶת-שְׁבוּתָם: יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה נְוֵה-צֶדֶק, הַר הַקֹּדֶשׁ.
koh-amar YHWH tzva'ot, Elohey Yisrael, od yomru et-hadavar hazeh be'eretz Yehudah uve'arav, beshuvi et-shevutam: yevarekhekha YHWH neweh-tzedek, har haqodesh.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: yet again shall they use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall turn their captivity: 'The LORD bless thee, O habitation of righteousness, O mountain of holiness.'
23.
וְיָשְׁבוּ בָהּ יְהוּדָה וְכָל-עָרָיו, יַחְדָּו: אִכָּרִים, וְנָסְעוּ בַּעֵדֶר.
ve'yashvu vah yehudah ve'khol-arav yakhdav ikarim ve'nase'u ba'eder.
And Judah and all the cities thereof shall dwell therein together: the husbandmen, and they that go forth with flocks.
24.
כִּי הִרְוֵיתִי, נֶפֶשׁ עֲיֵפָה; וְכָל-נֶפֶשׁ דָּאֲבָה, מִלֵּאתִי.
ki hirveti nefesh ayefah ve'khol-nefesh da'avah milleti.
For I have satiated the weary soul, and every pining soul have I replenished.
25.
עַל-זֹאת, הֱקִיצֹתִי וָאֶרְאֶה; וּשְׁנָתִי, עָרְבָה לִּי.
al-zot hekitzoti ve'er'eh u'shenati arevah li.
Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.
26.
הִנֵּה יָמִים בָּאִים, נְאֻם-יְהוָה; וְזָרַעְתִּי, אֶת-בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֶת-בֵּית יְהוּדָה, זֶרַע אָדָם, וְזֶרַע בְּהֵמָה.
hineh yamim ba'im ne'um-YHWH ve'zara'ti et-beit yisrael ve'et-beit yehudah zera adam ve'zera behemah.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.
27.
וְהָיָה כַּאֲשֶׁר שָׁקַדְתִּי עֲלֵיהֶם, לִנְתוֹשׁ וְלִנְתוֹץ וְלַהֲרֹס--וּלְהַאֲבִיד וּלְהָרֵעַ: כֵּן אֶשְׁקֹד עֲלֵיהֶם לִבְנוֹת וְלִנְטֹעַ, נְאֻם-יְהוָה.
ve'hayah ka'asher shakadti alehem, lintosh velintotz vela'haros--u'le'havid u'le'hare'a: ken eshkod alehem libnot velinto'a, ne'um-YHWH.
And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down, and to overthrow and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them to build and to plant, saith the LORD.
28.
בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם--לֹא-יֹאמְרוּ עוֹד, אָבוֹת אָכְלוּ בֹסֶר; וְשִׁנֵּי בָנִים, תִּקְהֶינָה.
bayamim hahem--lo-yomru od, avot akhlu voser; veshinei vanim, tikheinah.
In those days they shall say no more: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'
29.
כִּי אִם-אִישׁ בַּעֲוֺנוֹ, יָמוּת: כָּל-הָאָדָם הָאֹכֵל הַבֹּסֶר, תִּקְהֶינָה שִׁנָּיו.
ki im-ish ba'avono, yamut: kol-ha'adam ha'okhel haboser, tikheinah shinav.
But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man that eateth the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.
30.
הִנֵּה יָמִים בָּאִים, נְאֻם-יְהוָה; וְכָרַתִּי, אֶת-בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֶת-בֵּית יְהוּדָה--בְּרִית חֲדָשָׁה.
hineh yamim ba'im, ne'um-YHWH; vekharati, et-beit Yisrael ve'et-beit Yehudah--berit khadashah.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah;
31.
לֹא כַבְּרִית, אֲשֶׁר כָּרַתִּי אֶת-אֲבוֹתָם, בְּיוֹם הֶחֱזִיקִי בְיָדָם, לְהוֹצִיאָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם: אֲשֶׁר-הֵמָּה הֵפֵרוּ אֶת-בְּרִיתִי, וְאָנֹכִי בָּעַלְתִּי בָם--נְאֻם-יְהוָה.
Lo khavrit, asher karati et-avotam, beyom hekhiziki veyadam, lehotsiam me'eretz Mitzrayim: asher-hemah heferu et-briti, ve'anokhi ba'alti vam--neum-YHWH.
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; forasmuch as they broke My covenant, although I was a lord over them, saith the LORD.
32.
כִּי זֹאת הַבְּרִית אֲשֶׁר אֶכְרֹת אֶת-בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל אַחֲרֵי הַיָּמִים הָהֵם, נְאֻם-יְהוָה, נָתַתִּי אֶת-תּוֹרָתִי בְּקִרְבָּם, וְעַל-לִבָּם אֶכְתְּבֶנָּה; וְהָיִיתִי לָהֶם לֵאלֹהִים, וְהֵמָּה יִהְיוּ-לִי לְעָם.
Ki zot habrit asher ekhrot et-beit Yisrael akharei hayamim hahem, neum-YHWH, natati et-torati bekirbam, ve'al-libam ekhtevenah; vehayiti lahem lelohim, vehemah yihyu-li le'am.
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the LORD, I will put My law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people;
33.
וְלֹא יְלַמְּדוּ עוֹד, אִישׁ אֶת-רֵעֵהוּ וְאִישׁ אֶת-אָחִיו לֵאמֹר, דְּעוּ, אֶת-יְהוָה: כִּי-כוּלָּם יֵדְעוּ אוֹתִי לְמִקְּטַנָּם וְעַד-גְּדוֹלָם, נְאֻם-יְהוָה--כִּי אֶסְלַח לַעֲוֺנָם, וּלְחַטָּאתָם לֹא אֶזְכָּר-עוֹד.
Velo yelamedu od, ish et-re'ehu ve'ish et-akhiiv lemor, de'u, et-YHWH: ki-khulam yede'u oti lemikqatanam ve'ad-gedolam, neum-YHWH--ki eslakh la'awonam, ulekhattatam lo ezkar-od.
and they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying: 'Know the LORD'; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.
34.
כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, נֹתֵן שֶׁמֶשׁ לְאוֹר יוֹמָם, חֻקֹּת יָרֵחַ וְכוֹכָבִים, לְאוֹר לָיְלָה; רֹגַע הַיָּם וַיֶּהֱמוּ גַלָּיו, יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת שְׁמוֹ.
Koh amar YHWH, noten shemesh le'or yomam, khuqot yareakh vekhokhavim, le'or laylah; roga hayam vayyehemu gallav, YHWH tzva'ot shemo.
Thus saith the LORD, Who giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirreth up the sea, that the waves thereof roar, the LORD of hosts is His name:
35.
אִם-יָמֻשׁוּ הַחֻקִּים הָאֵלֶּה, מִלְּפָנַי--נְאֻם-יְהוָה; גַּם זֶרַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יִשְׁבְּתוּ, מִהְיוֹת גּוֹי לְפָנַי--כָּל-הַיָּמִים.
im-yamushu hachukim ha'eleh milfanay ne'um YHWH gam zera Yisrael yishbetu mihyot goy lefanay kol-hayamim
If these ordinances depart from before Me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me for ever.
36.
כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, אִם-יִמַּדּוּ שָׁמַיִם מִלְמַעְלָה, וְיֵחָקְרוּ מוֹסְדֵי-אֶרֶץ, לְמָטָּה: גַּם-אֲנִי אֶמְאַס בְּכָל-זֶרַע יִשְׂרָאֵל, עַל-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר עָשׂוּ--נְאֻם-יְהוָה.
koh amar YHWH im-yimmaddu shamayim milma'lah veyechaqeru mosedei-eretz lemattah gam-ani em'as bekhal-zera Yisrael al-kol-asher asu ne'um YHWH
Thus saith the LORD: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then will I also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
37.
הִנֵּה יָמִים בָּאִים, נְאֻם-יְהוָה; וְנִבְנְתָה הָעִיר לַיהוָה, מִמִּגְדַּל חֲנַנְאֵל שַׁעַר הַפִּנָּה.
hinneh yamim ba'im ne'um YHWH venivnetah ha'ir laYHWH mimmigdal chanan'el shachar hapinnah
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananel unto the gate of the corner.
38.
וְיָצָא עוֹד קוה קָו הַמִּדָּה, נֶגְדּוֹ, עַל, גִּבְעַת גָּרֵב; וְנָסַב, גֹּעָתָה.
veyatza od qav qav hammiddah negdo al giv'at gareh venasab go'atah
And the measuring line shall yet go out straight forward unto the hill Gareb, and shall turn about unto Goah.
39.
וְכָל-הָעֵמֶק הַפְּגָרִים וְהַדֶּשֶׁן וְכָל-השרמות הַשְּׁדֵמוֹת עַד-נַחַל קִדְרוֹן עַד-פִּנַּת שַׁעַר הַסּוּסִים, מִזְרָחָה--קֹדֶשׁ, לַיהוָה: לֹא-יִנָּתֵשׁ וְלֹא-יֵהָרֵס עוֹד, לְעוֹלָם.
ve'chol-ha'emek hapegarim ve'hadeshen ve'chol-hashremot hashdemot ad-nachal kidron ad-pinat shaar hasusim mizrachah kodesh la'Adonai lo-yinnatesh ve'lo-yehares od le'olam.
And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
