1.
וְעַתָּה שְׁמַע, יַעֲקֹב עַבְדִּי; וְיִשְׂרָאֵל, בָּחַרְתִּי בוֹ.
ve'attah shema, ya'akov avdi; veyisrael, bakharti vo.
Yet now hear, O Jacob My servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen;
2.
כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה עֹשֶׂךָ וְיֹצֶרְךָ מִבֶּטֶן, יַעְזְרֶךָּ: אַל-תִּירָא עַבְדִּי יַעֲקֹב, וִישֻׁרוּן בָּחַרְתִּי בוֹ.
koh-amar YHWH osheka veyotzerkha mibeten ya'zereka al-tira avdi Ya'akov vishurun baharti bo.
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, who will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob My servant, and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
3.
כִּי אֶצָּק-מַיִם עַל-צָמֵא, וְנֹזְלִים עַל-יַבָּשָׁה; אֶצֹּק רוּחִי עַל-זַרְעֶךָ, וּבִרְכָתִי עַל-צֶאֱצָאֶיךָ.
ki etzak-mayim al-tzame ve'nozelim al-yabashah etzot-ruhi al-zar'eka uvirchati al-tze'eza'echa.
For I will pour water upon the thirsty land, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;
4.
וְצָמְחוּ, בְּבֵין חָצִיר, כַּעֲרָבִים, עַל-יִבְלֵי-מָיִם.
vetzamhu bev-bein khatzir ka'aravim al-yivlei-mayim.
And they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.
5.
זֶה יֹאמַר לַיהוָה אָנִי, וְזֶה יִקְרָא בְשֵׁם-יַעֲקֹב; וְזֶה, יִכְתֹּב יָדוֹ לַיהוָה, וּבְשֵׁם יִשְׂרָאֵל, יְכַנֶּה.
zeh yomar laYHWH ani vezeh yikra veshem-Ya'akov vezeh yiktov yado laYHWH uveshem Yisrael yekaneh.
One shall say: 'I am the LORD'S'; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.
6.
כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה מֶלֶךְ-יִשְׂרָאֵל וְגֹאֲלוֹ, יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת: אֲנִי רִאשׁוֹן וַאֲנִי אַחֲרוֹן, וּמִבַּלְעָדַי אֵין אֱלֹהִים.
koh-amar YHWH melekh-Yisrael vego'alo, YHWH tzva'ot: ani rishon va'ani akharon, umibal'aday ein Elohim.
Thus saith the LORD, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the LORD of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last, and beside Me there is no God.
7.
וּמִי-כָמוֹנִי יִקְרָא, וְיַגִּידֶהָ וְיַעְרְכֶהָ לִי, מִשּׂוּמִי, עַם-עוֹלָם; וְאֹתִיּוֹת וַאֲשֶׁר תָּבֹאנָה, יַגִּידוּ לָמוֹ.
umi-khamoni yikra, veyagideha veya'erkhea li, misumi, am-olam; ve'otiyot va'asher tavo'nah, yagidu lamo.
And who, as I, can proclaim--let him declare it, and set it in order for Me--since I appointed the ancient people? And the things that are coming, and that shall come to pass, let them declare.
8.
אַל-תִּפְחֲדוּ, וְאַל-תִּרְהוּ--הֲלֹא מֵאָז הִשְׁמַעְתִּיךָ וְהִגַּדְתִּי, וְאַתֶּם עֵדָי; הֲיֵשׁ אֱלוֹהַּ מִבַּלְעָדַי, וְאֵין צוּר בַּל-יָדָעְתִּי.
al-tifkhadu, ve'al-tirhu--halo me'az hishma'tika vehigadti, ve'atem eday; hayesh elo'ah mibal'aday, ve'ein tzur bal-yada'ti.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid; have I not announced unto thee of old, and declared it? And ye are My witnesses. Is there a God beside Me? Yea, there is no Rock; I know not any.
9.
יֹצְרֵי-פֶסֶל כֻּלָּם תֹּהוּ, וַחֲמוּדֵיהֶם בַּל-יוֹעִילוּ; וְעֵדֵיהֶם הֵמָּה, בַּל-יִרְאוּ וּבַל-יֵדְעוּ--לְמַעַן יֵבֹשׁוּ.
yotzrei-pesel kullam tohu, vakhamu'dehem bal-yo'ilu; ve'edehem hemah, bal-yir'u ubal-yede'u--lema'an yevoshu.
They that fashion a graven image are all of them vanity, and their delectable things shall not profit; and their own witnesses see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
10.
מִי-יָצַר אֵל, וּפֶסֶל נָסָךְ--לְבִלְתִּי, הוֹעִיל.
Mi-yatzer el, u-pesel nasakh--levilti, ho'il.
Who hath fashioned a god, or molten an image that is profitable for nothing?
11.
הֵן כָּל-חֲבֵרָיו יֵבֹשׁוּ, וְחָרָשִׁים הֵמָּה מֵאָדָם; יִתְקַבְּצוּ כֻלָּם יַעֲמֹדוּ, יִפְחֲדוּ יֵבֹשׁוּ יָחַד.
Hen kol-khaverav yevoshu, ve-kharashim hemma me'adam; yitkabtsu khullam ya'amodu, yifkhadu yevoshu yakhad.
Behold, all the fellows thereof shall be ashamed; and the craftsmen skilled above men; let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; they shall fear, they shall be ashamed together.
12.
חָרַשׁ בַּרְזֶל, מַעֲצָד, וּפָעַל בַּפֶּחָם, וּבַמַּקָּבוֹת יִצְּרֵהוּ; וַיִּפְעָלֵהוּ, בִּזְרוֹעַ כֹּחוֹ--גַּם-רָעֵב וְאֵין כֹּחַ, לֹא-שָׁתָה מַיִם וַיִּיעָף.
Kharash barzel, ma'atsad, u-fa'al ba-pekham, u-va-makkavot yitz'rehu; va-yif'alehu, bizro'a kokho--gam-ra'ev ve'ein koakh, lo-shata mayim va-yi'af.
The smith maketh an axe, and worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with his strong arm; yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth; he drinketh no water, and is faint.
13.
חָרַשׁ עֵצִים, נָטָה קָו, יְתָאֲרֵהוּ בַשֶּׂרֶד, יַעֲשֵׂהוּ בַּמַּקְצֻעוֹת וּבַמְּחוּגָה יְתָאֳרֵהוּ; וַיַּעֲשֵׂהוּ כְּתַבְנִית אִישׁ, כְּתִפְאֶרֶת אָדָם לָשֶׁבֶת בָּיִת.
Kharash etsim, nata kav, yeta'arehu ba-sered, ya'asehu ba-maktsuot u-va-mekhugah yeta'orehu; va-ya'asehu ke-tavnit ish, ke-tif'eret adam lashevet bayit.
The carpenter stretcheth out a line; he marketh it out with a pencil; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compasses, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in the house.
14.
לִכְרָת-לוֹ אֲרָזִים--וַיִּקַּח תִּרְזָה וְאַלּוֹן, וַיְאַמֶּץ-לוֹ בַּעֲצֵי-יָעַר; נָטַע אֹרֶן, וְגֶשֶׁם יְגַדֵּל.
likhrat-lo arazim--vayikakh tirzah ve'allon, vay'ametz-lo ba'atzei-ya'ar; nata oren, vegeshem yegadel.
He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the ilex and the oak, and strengtheneth for himself one among the trees of the forest; he planteth a bay-tree, and the rain doth nourish it.
15.
וְהָיָה לְאָדָם, לְבָעֵר, וַיִּקַּח מֵהֶם וַיָּחָם, אַף-יַשִּׂיק וְאָפָה לָחֶם; אַף-יִפְעַל-אֵל וַיִּשְׁתָּחוּ, עָשָׂהוּ פֶסֶל וַיִּסְגָּד-לָמוֹ.
vehayah le'adam, leva'er, vayikakh mehem vayakham, af-yassik ve'afah lakhem; af-yif'al-el vayishtakhu, asahu fesel vayisgad-lamo.
Then a man useth it for fuel; and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.
16.
חֶצְיוֹ, שָׂרַף בְּמוֹ-אֵשׁ, עַל-חֶצְיוֹ בָּשָׂר יֹאכֵל, יִצְלֶה צָלִי וְיִשְׂבָּע; אַף-יָחֹם וְיֹאמַר הֶאָח, חַמּוֹתִי רָאִיתִי אוּר.
khetsyo, saraf bemo-esh, al-khetsyo basar yokhel, yitzleh tzalih veyisba'; af-yakhom veyomar he'akh, khammoti ra'iti ur.
He burneth the half thereof in the fire; with the half thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied; yea, he warmeth himself, and saith: 'Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire';
17.
וּשְׁאֵרִיתוֹ, לְאֵל עָשָׂה לְפִסְלוֹ; יסגוד- יִסְגָּד- לוֹ וְיִשְׁתַּחוּ, וְיִתְפַּלֵּל אֵלָיו, וְיֹאמַר הַצִּילֵנִי, כִּי אֵלִי אָתָּה.
ushe'arito, le'el asah lefislo; yisgod- yisgad- lo veyishtakhu, veyitpallel elav, veyomar hatztzileni, ki eli attah.
And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; he falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith: 'Deliver me, for thou art my god.'
18.
לֹא יָדְעוּ, וְלֹא יָבִינוּ: כִּי טַח מֵרְאוֹת עֵינֵיהֶם, מֵהַשְׂכִּיל לִבֹּתָם.
Lo yade'u, ve'lo yavinu: ki tach me're'ot einehem, mehaskil libotam.
They know not, neither do they understand; for their eyes are bedaubed, that they cannot see, and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
19.
וְלֹא-יָשִׁיב אֶל-לִבּוֹ, וְלֹא דַעַת וְלֹא-תְבוּנָה לֵאמֹר, חֶצְיוֹ שָׂרַפְתִּי בְמוֹ-אֵשׁ וְאַף אָפִיתִי עַל-גֶּחָלָיו לֶחֶם, אֶצְלֶה בָשָׂר וְאֹכֵל; וְיִתְרוֹ לְתוֹעֵבָה אֶעֱשֶׂה, לְבוּל עֵץ אֶסְגּוֹד.
Ve'lo-yashiv el-libo, ve'lo da'at ve'lo-tevuna lemor, chetzyo sarafti ve'mo-esh ve'af afiti al-gechalav lehem, etsleh basar ve'okhel; ve'yitro leto'eva e'eseh, levul ets esgod.
And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say: 'I have burned the half of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh and eaten it; and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? Shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?'
20.
רֹעֶה אֵפֶר, לֵב הוּתַל הִטָּהוּ; וְלֹא-יַצִּיל אֶת-נַפְשׁוֹ וְלֹא יֹאמַר, הֲלוֹא שֶׁקֶר בִּימִינִי.
Ro'eh afer, lev hutal hitahu; ve'lo-yatsil et-nafsho ve'lo yomar, halo sheker bimini.
He striveth after ashes, a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say: 'Is there not a lie in my right hand?'
21.
זְכָר-אֵלֶּה יַעֲקֹב, וְיִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי עַבְדִּי-אָתָּה; יְצַרְתִּיךָ עֶבֶד-לִי אַתָּה, יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא תִנָּשֵׁנִי.
Zekhar-eleh Ya'akov, ve'Yisrael ki avdi-atah; yetsartikha eved-li atah, Yisrael lo tinnasheni.
Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for thou art My servant; I have formed thee, thou art Mine own servant; O Israel, thou shouldest not forget Me.
22.
מָחִיתִי כָעָב פְּשָׁעֶיךָ, וְכֶעָנָן חַטֹּאותֶיךָ; שׁוּבָה אֵלַי, כִּי גְאַלְתִּיךָ.
makhiti kha'av peshayeikha, vekhe'anan khatoteikha; shuvah elay, ki ge'altikha.
I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins; return unto Me, for I have redeemed thee.
23.
רָנּוּ שָׁמַיִם כִּי-עָשָׂה יְהוָה, הָרִיעוּ תַּחְתִּיּוֹת אָרֶץ, פִּצְחוּ הָרִים רִנָּה, יַעַר וְכָל-עֵץ בּוֹ: כִּי-גָאַל יְהוָה יַעֲקֹב, וּבְיִשְׂרָאֵל יִתְפָּאָר.
rannu shamayim ki-asah YHWH, hari'u takhtiyot aretz, pitzkhu harim rinnah, ya'ar vekhal-etz bo: ki-ga'al YHWH Ya'akov, uveYisrael yitpa'ar.
Sing, O ye heavens, for the LORD hath done it; shout, ye lowest parts of the earth; break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein; for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and doth glorify Himself in Israel.
24.
כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה גֹּאֲלֶךָ, וְיֹצֶרְךָ מִבָּטֶן: אָנֹכִי יְהוָה, עֹשֶׂה כֹּל--נֹטֶה שָׁמַיִם לְבַדִּי, רֹקַע הָאָרֶץ מי אתי מֵאִתִּי.
koh-amar YHWH go'alekha, veyotzerkha mibaten: anokhi YHWH, oseh kol--noteh shamayim levadi, roka ha'aretz me'iti.
Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, and He that formed thee from the womb: I am the LORD, that maketh all things; that stretched forth the heavens alone; that spread abroad the earth by Myself;
25.
מֵפֵר אֹתוֹת בַּדִּים, וְקֹסְמִים יְהוֹלֵל; מֵשִׁיב חֲכָמִים אָחוֹר, וְדַעְתָּם יְסַכֵּל.
mefer otot baddim, veqosmim yeholel; meshiv khakhamim akhor, udatam yesakkel.
That frustrateth the tokens of the imposters, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
26.
מֵקִים דְּבַר עַבְדּוֹ, וַעֲצַת מַלְאָכָיו יַשְׁלִים; הָאֹמֵר לִירוּשָׁלִַם תּוּשָׁב, וּלְעָרֵי יְהוּדָה תִּבָּנֶינָה, וְחָרְבוֹתֶיהָ, אֲקוֹמֵם.
mekim devar avdo, va'atsat mal'akhav yashlim; ha'omer lirushalayim tushav, ule'arei yehudah tivanenah, vekharovoteiha, akomem.
That confirmeth the word of His servant, and performeth the counsel of His messengers; that saith of Jerusalem: 'She shall be inhabited'; and of the cities of Judah: 'They shall be built, and I will raise up the waste places thereof';
27.
הָאֹמֵר לַצּוּלָה, חֳרָבִי; וְנַהֲרֹתַיִךְ, אוֹבִישׁ.
ha'omer latsulah, khoravi; venaharotayikh, ovish.
That saith to the deep: 'Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers';
28.
הָאֹמֵר לְכוֹרֶשׁ רֹעִי, וְכָל-חֶפְצִי יַשְׁלִם; וְלֵאמֹר לִירוּשָׁלִַם תִּבָּנֶה, וְהֵיכָל תִּוָּסֵד.
ha'omer lekhoresh ro'i, vekhal-kheftsi yashlim; vele'mor lirushalayim tibaneh, veheikhal tivased.
That saith of Cyrus: 'He is My shepherd, and shall perform all My pleasure'; even saying of Jerusalem: 'She shall be built'; and to the temple: 'My foundation shall be laid.'
