1.
מַשָּׂא, מִדְבַּר-יָם: כְּסוּפוֹת בַּנֶּגֶב, לַחֲלֹף, מִמִּדְבָּר בָּא, מֵאֶרֶץ נוֹרָאָה.
masa, midbar-yam: kesufot banegev, lakhalof, mimidbar ba, me'eretz nora'ah.
The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweeping on, it cometh from the wilderness, from a dreadful land.
2.
חָזוּת קָשָׁה, הֻגַּד-לִי: הַבּוֹגֵד בּוֹגֵד, וְהַשּׁוֹדֵד שׁוֹדֵד, עֲלִי עֵילָם צוּרִי מָדַי, כָּל-אַנְחָתָה הִשְׁבַּתִּי.
khazut qashah, hugad-li: haboged boged, vehashoded shoded, ali eylam tzuri maday, kol-an-hatah hishbatti.
A grievous vision is declared unto me: 'The treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam! besiege, O Media! All the sighing thereof have I made to cease.'
3.
עַל-כֵּן, מָלְאוּ מָתְנַי חַלְחָלָה--צִירִים אֲחָזוּנִי, כְּצִירֵי יוֹלֵדָה; נַעֲוֵיתִי מִשְּׁמֹעַ, נִבְהַלְתִּי מֵרְאוֹת.
al-ken, male'u motnay khalkhalah--tzirim akhazuni, ketzirei yoledah; na'aveti mishemo'a, nivhalti mero'ot.
Therefore are my loins filled with convulsion; pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail; I am bent so that I cannot hear; I am affrighted so that I cannot see.
4.
תָּעָה לְבָבִי, פַּלָּצוּת בִּעֲתָתְנִי; אֵת נֶשֶׁף חִשְׁקִי, שָׂם לִי לַחֲרָדָה.
ta'ah levavi, pallatzut bi'atatni; et neshev khishki, sam li lakharadah.
My heart is bewildered, terror hath overwhelmed me; the twilight that I longed for hath been turned for me into trembling.

עָרֹךְ הַשֻּׁלְחָן צָפֹה הַצָּפִית, אָכוֹל שָׁתֹה; קוּמוּ הַשָּׂרִים, מִשְׁחוּ מָגֵן.
arokh hashulkhan tzafo hatzafit, akhol shatoh; kumu hasharim, mishkhu magen.
They prepare the table, they light the lamps, they eat, they drink--'Rise up, ye princes, anoint the shield.'
6.
כִּי כֹה אָמַר אֵלַי, אֲדֹנָי: לֵךְ הַעֲמֵד הַמְצַפֶּה, אֲשֶׁר יִרְאֶה יַגִּיד.
ki kho amar elay, adonay: lekh ha'emed hamtzappeh, asher yir'eh yaggid.
For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Go, set a watchman; let him declare what he seeth!
7.
וְרָאָה רֶכֶב, צֶמֶד פָּרָשִׁים--רֶכֶב חֲמוֹר, רֶכֶב גָּמָל; וְהִקְשִׁיב קֶשֶׁב, רַב-קָשֶׁב.
verah'ah rekhev, tzedekh parashim--rekhev khamor, rekhev gamal; vehqshiv keshev, rav-qashev.
And when he seeth a troop, horsemen by pairs, a troop of asses, a troop of camels, he shall hearken diligently with much heed.
8.
וַיִּקְרָא, אַרְיֵה--עַל-מִצְפֶּה אֲדֹנָי, אָנֹכִי עֹמֵד תָּמִיד יוֹמָם, וְעַל-מִשְׁמַרְתִּי, אָנֹכִי נִצָּב כָּל-הַלֵּילוֹת.
Vayikra aryeh al-mitzepeh Adonai anokhi omed tamid yomam ve'al-mishmarti anokhi nitzav kol-ha'leylot.
And he cried as a lion: 'Upon the watch-tower, O Lord, I stand continually in the daytime, and I am set in my ward all the nights.'
9.
וְהִנֵּה-זֶה בָא רֶכֶב אִישׁ, צֶמֶד פָּרָשִׁים; וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר, נָפְלָה נָפְלָה בָּבֶל, וְכָל-פְּסִילֵי אֱלֹהֶיהָ, שִׁבַּר לָאָרֶץ.
Vehinneh-zeh va'a rekhev ish tzemed parashim vaya'an vayomer naflah naflah Bavel vekhol-pesiley eloheya shibar la'aretz.
And, behold, there came a troop of men, horsemen by pairs. And he spoke and said: 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the graven images of her gods are broken unto the ground.'
10.
מְדֻשָׁתִי, וּבֶן-גָּרְנִי: אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְתִּי, מֵאֵת יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל--הִגַּדְתִּי לָכֶם.
Medushati uven-gorni asher shamati me'et YHWH tzva'ot Elohey Yisrael higadti lakhem.
O thou my threshing, and the winnowing of my floor, that which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
11.
מַשָּׂא, דּוּמָה: אֵלַי, קֹרֵא מִשֵּׂעִיר, שֹׁמֵר מַה-מִּלַּיְלָה, שֹׁמֵר מַה-מִּלֵּיל.
Masah Dumah elay kore mi-Se'ir shomer mah-milaylah shomer mah-milleyl.
The burden of Dumah. One calleth unto me out of Seir: 'Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?'
12.
אָמַר שֹׁמֵר, אָתָה בֹקֶר וְגַם-לָיְלָה; אִם-תִּבְעָיוּן בְּעָיוּ, שֻׁבוּ אֵתָיוּ.
amar shomer, atah boker vegam-laylah; im-tiv'ayun be'ayu, shubu etayu.
The watchman said: 'The morning cometh, and also the night--if ye will inquire, inquire ye; return, come.'
13.
מַשָּׂא, בַּעְרָב: בַּיַּעַר בַּעְרַב תָּלִינוּ, אֹרְחוֹת דְּדָנִים.
masa, ba'arav: bayar ba'arav talinu, orkhot dedanim.
The burden upon Arabia. In the thickets in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedanites.
14.
לִקְרַאת צָמֵא, הֵתָיוּ מָיִם; יֹשְׁבֵי אֶרֶץ תֵּימָא, בְּלַחְמוֹ קִדְּמוּ נֹדֵד.
likrat tzamay, hetayu mayim; yoshvei eretz teyma, belakhmo kidmu noded.
Unto him that is thirsty bring ye water! The inhabitants of the land of Tema did meet the fugitive with his bread.
15.
כִּי-מִפְּנֵי חֲרָבוֹת, נָדָדוּ; מִפְּנֵי חֶרֶב נְטוּשָׁה, וּמִפְּנֵי קֶשֶׁת דְּרוּכָה, וּמִפְּנֵי, כֹּבֶד מִלְחָמָה.
ki-mipenei kharavot, nadadu; mipenei kherev netushah, umipenei keshet derukhah, umipenei, koved milkhamah.
For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.
16.
כִּי-כֹה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי, אֵלָי: בְּעוֹד שָׁנָה כִּשְׁנֵי שָׂכִיר, וְכָלָה כָּל-כְּבוֹד קֵדָר.
ki-kho amar Adonai elay: be'od shanah kishnei sakhir, ve-khalah kol-kevod Kedar.
For thus hath the Lord said unto me: 'Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail;
17.
וּשְׁאָר מִסְפַּר-קֶשֶׁת גִּבּוֹרֵי בְנֵי-קֵדָר, יִמְעָטוּ: כִּי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, דִּבֵּר.
ush'ar mispar-keshet giborei venei-Kedar, yim'atu: ki YHWH Elohei-Yisrael diber.
and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished; for the LORD, the God of Israel, hath spoken it.'
