1.
גֶּפֶן בּוֹקֵק יִשְׂרָאֵל, פְּרִי יְשַׁוֶּה-לּוֹ; כְּרֹב לְפִרְיוֹ, הִרְבָּה לַמִּזְבְּחוֹת--כְּטוֹב לְאַרְצוֹ, הֵיטִיבוּ מַצֵּבוֹת.
gefen bokeq Yisrael, peri yeshaveh-lo; kerov lefiryo, hirbah lamizbehot--ketov le'artzo, heytivu matzevot.
Israel was a luxuriant vine, which put forth fruit freely: as his fruit increased, he increased his altars; the more goodly his land was, the more goodly were his pillars.
2.
חָלַק לִבָּם, עַתָּה יֶאְשָׁמוּ; הוּא יַעֲרֹף מִזְבְּחוֹתָם, יְשֹׁדֵד מַצֵּבוֹתָם.
halak libam, attah ye'ashumu; hu ya'arof mizbehotam, yeshoded matzevotam.
Their heart is divided; now shall they bear their guilt; He will break down their altars, He will spoil their pillars.
3.
כִּי עַתָּה יֹאמְרוּ, אֵין מֶלֶךְ לָנוּ: כִּי לֹא יָרֵאנוּ אֶת-יְהוָה, וְהַמֶּלֶךְ מַה-יַּעֲשֶׂה-לָּנוּ.
ki 'atah yomru, ein melekh lanu: ki lo yarenu et-YHWH, ve-hamelekh mah-ya'aseh-lanu.
Surely now shall they say: 'We have no king; for we feared not the LORD; and the king, what can he do for us?'
4.
דִּבְּרוּ דְבָרִים, אָלוֹת שָׁוְא כָּרֹת בְּרִית; וּפָרַח כָּרֹאשׁ מִשְׁפָּט, עַל תַּלְמֵי שָׂדָי.
dibru devarim, alot shaw karot berith; u-parakh karosh mishpat, 'al talmei saday.
They speak words, they swear falsely, they make covenants; thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

לְעֶגְלוֹת בֵּית אָוֶן, יָגוּרוּ שְׁכַן שֹׁמְרוֹן: כִּי-אָבַל עָלָיו עַמּוֹ, וּכְמָרָיו עָלָיו יָגִילוּ--עַל-כְּבוֹדוֹ, כִּי-גָלָה מִמֶּנּוּ.
le'eglot beit aven, yaguru shekhan shomron: ki-aval 'alav 'amo, u-khmarav 'alav yagilu--al-kevodo, ki-galah mimenu.
The inhabitants of Samaria shall be in dread for the calves of Beth-aven; for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof shall tremble for it, for its glory, because it is departed from it.

גַּם-אוֹתוֹ לְאַשּׁוּר יוּבָל, מִנְחָה לְמֶלֶךְ יָרֵב; בָּשְׁנָה אֶפְרַיִם יִקָּח, וְיֵבוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵעֲצָתוֹ.
gam-oto le'ashur yuval, minkhah lemelekh yarev; bashenah efrayim yikakh, ve-yevosh yisrael me'atsato.
It also shall be carried unto Assyria, for a present to King Contentious; Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
7.
נִדְמֶה שֹׁמְרוֹן, מַלְכָּהּ, כְּקֶצֶף, עַל-פְּנֵי-מָיִם.
nidmeh shomron malkah kequetz al-penei-mayim.
As for Samaria, her king is cut off, as foam upon the water.
8.
וְנִשְׁמְדוּ בָּמוֹת אָוֶן, חַטַּאת יִשְׂרָאֵל--קוֹץ וְדַרְדַּר, יַעֲלֶה עַל-מִזְבְּחוֹתָם; וְאָמְרוּ לֶהָרִים כַּסּוּנוּ, וְלַגְּבָעוֹת נִפְלוּ עָלֵינוּ.
venishmedu bamot aven chattat Yisrael kotz vedardar ya'aleh al-mizbechotam ve'amru leharim kasunu velageva'ot niflu aleynu.
The high places also of Aven shall be destroyed, even the sin of Israel. The thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains: 'Cover us', and to the hills: 'Fall on us.'
9.
מִימֵי, הַגִּבְעָה, חָטָאתָ, יִשְׂרָאֵל; שָׁם עָמָדוּ, לֹא-תַשִּׂיגֵם בַּגִּבְעָה מִלְחָמָה עַל-בְּנֵי עַלְוָה.
mimey hagiv'ah chatata Yisrael sham amadu lo-tashigem bagiv'ah milchamah al-benei alvah.
From the days of Gibeah thou hast sinned, O Israel; there they stood; no battle was to overtake them in Gibeah, nor the children of arrogancy.
10.
בְּאַוָּתִי, וְאֶסֳּרֵם; וְאֻסְּפוּ עֲלֵיהֶם עַמִּים, בְּאָסְרָם לִשְׁתֵּי עינתם עוֹנוֹתָם.
be'avati ve'esorem ve'usfu aleyhem amim be'aram lishtey eynatam onotam.
When it is My desire, I will chastise them; and the peoples shall be gathered against them, when they are yoked to their two rings.
11.
וְאֶפְרַיִם עֶגְלָה מְלֻמָּדָה, אֹהַבְתִּי לָדוּשׁ, וַאֲנִי עָבַרְתִּי, עַל-טוּב צַוָּארָהּ; אַרְכִּיב אֶפְרַיִם יַחֲרוֹשׁ יְהוּדָה, יְשַׂדֶּד-לוֹ יַעֲקֹב.
ve'efrayim eglah melumadah, ohavti ladush, va'ani avarti, al-tuv tzavarah; arkiv efrayim yakharosh yehudah, yesaded-lo ya'akov.
And Ephraim is a heifer well broken, that loveth to thresh, and I have passed over upon her fair neck; I will make Ephraim to ride, Judah shall plow, Jacob shall break his clods.
12.
זִרְעוּ לָכֶם לִצְדָקָה קִצְרוּ לְפִי-חֶסֶד, נִירוּ לָכֶם נִיר; וְעֵת, לִדְרוֹשׁ אֶת-יְהוָה, עַד-יָבוֹא, וְיֹרֶה צֶדֶק לָכֶם.
zir'u lakhem litzdakah kitzru lefi-chesed, niru lakhem nir; ve'et, lidrosh et-yhwh, ad-yavo, veyore tzedek lakhem.
Sow to yourselves according to righteousness, reap according to mercy, break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, till He come and cause righteousness to rain upon you.
13.
חֲרַשְׁתֶּם-רֶשַׁע עַוְלָתָה קְצַרְתֶּם, אֲכַלְתֶּם פְּרִי-כָחַשׁ--כִּי-בָטַחְתָּ בְדַרְכְּךָ, בְּרֹב גִּבּוֹרֶיךָ.
kharashtem-reshet avlatah k'tzartem, akhaltem p'ri-kakhash--ki-vatachta v'dark'cha, b'rov giboreykha.
Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity, ye have eaten the fruit of lies; for thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
14.
וְקָאם שָׁאוֹן, בְּעַמֶּךָ, וְכָל-מִבְצָרֶיךָ יוּשַּׁד, כְּשֹׁד שַׁלְמַן בֵּית אַרְבֵאל בְּיוֹם מִלְחָמָה: אֵם עַל-בָּנִים, רֻטָּשָׁה.
v'qam sha'on, b'ammekha, v'khol-mivtzareykhu yushad, k'shod shalman beit arbel b'yom milkhamah: em al-banim, rutashah.
Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy hosts, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle; the mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
15.
כָּכָה, עָשָׂה לָכֶם בֵּית-אֵל, מִפְּנֵי, רָעַת רָעַתְכֶם; בַּשַּׁחַר, נִדְמֹה נִדְמָה מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל.
kakhah, asah lakhem bet-el, mipenei, ra'at ra'atkhem; bashakhar, nidmoh nidmah melekh yisrael.
So hath Beth-el done unto you because of your great wickedness; at daybreak is the king of Israel utterly cut off.
