1.
וַיִּסַּע מִשָּׁם אַבְרָהָם אַרְצָה הַנֶּגֶב, וַיֵּשֶׁב בֵּין-קָדֵשׁ וּבֵין שׁוּר; וַיָּגָר, בִּגְרָר.
Vayisa misham Avraham artzah hanegev, vayeshev bein-Kadesh uvein Shur; vayagar, biGerar.
And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the land of the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar.

וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָהָם אֶל-שָׂרָה אִשְׁתּוֹ, אֲחֹתִי הִוא; וַיִּשְׁלַח, אֲבִימֶלֶךְ מֶלֶךְ גְּרָר, וַיִּקַּח, אֶת-שָׂרָה.
Vayomer Avraham el-Sarah ishto, achoti hi; vayishlach, Avimelech melech Gerar, vayikach, et-Sarah.
And Abraham said of Sarah his wife: 'She is my sister.' And Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

וַיָּבֹא אֱלֹהִים אֶל-אֲבִימֶלֶךְ, בַּחֲלוֹם הַלָּיְלָה; וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ, הִנְּךָ מֵת עַל-הָאִשָּׁה אֲשֶׁר-לָקַחְתָּ, וְהִוא, בְּעֻלַת בָּעַל.
Vayavo Elohim el-Avimelech, bachalom halaylah; vayomer lo, hincha met al-ha'ishah asher-lakachta, vehi, be'ulat ba'al.
But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him: 'Behold, thou shalt die, because of the woman whom thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.'
4.
וַאֲבִימֶלֶךְ, לֹא קָרַב אֵלֶיהָ; וַיֹּאמַר--אֲדֹנָי, הֲגוֹי גַּם-צַדִּיק תַּהֲרֹג.
Va'avimelech, lo karav eleiha; vayomer--Adonai, hagoy gam-tzadik taharog.
Now Abimelech had not come near her; and he said: 'LORD, wilt Thou slay even a righteous nation?

הֲלֹא הוּא אָמַר-לִי אֲחֹתִי הִוא, וְהִיא-גַם-הִוא אָמְרָה אָחִי הוּא; בְּתָם-לְבָבִי וּבְנִקְיֹן כַּפַּי, עָשִׂיתִי זֹאת.
Halo hu amar-li achoti hi, vehi-gam-hi amrah achi hu; betom-levavi uvenikyon kappay, asiti zot.
Said he not himself unto me: She is my sister? and she, even she herself said: He is my brother. In the simplicity of my heart and the innocency of my hands have I done this.'

וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הָאֱלֹהִים בַּחֲלֹם, גַּם אָנֹכִי יָדַעְתִּי כִּי בְתָם-לְבָבְךָ עָשִׂיתָ זֹּאת, וָאֶחְשֹׂךְ גַּם-אָנֹכִי אוֹתְךָ, מֵחֲטוֹ-לִי; עַל-כֵּן לֹא-נְתַתִּיךָ, לִנְגֹּעַ אֵלֶיהָ.
Vayomer elav ha'Elohim bachalom, gam anochi yadati ki vetam-levavcha asita zot, va'echsokh gam-anochi otcha, mechato-li; al-ken lo-netaticha, lingoa eleha.
And God said unto him in the dream: 'Yea, I know that in the simplicity of thy heart thou hast done this, and I also withheld thee from sinning against Me. Therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7.
וְעַתָּה, הָשֵׁב אֵשֶׁת-הָאִישׁ כִּי-נָבִיא הוּא, וְיִתְפַּלֵּל בַּעַדְךָ, וֶחְיֵה; וְאִם-אֵינְךָ מֵשִׁיב--דַּע כִּי-מוֹת תָּמוּת, אַתָּה וְכָל-אֲשֶׁר-לָךְ.
Ve'attah, hashev eshet-ha'ish ki-navi hu, veyitpallel ba'adekha, vechyeh; ve'im-einekha meshiv--da ki-mot tamut, attah vekhol-asher-lakh.
Now therefore restore the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live; and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.'

וַיַּשְׁכֵּם אֲבִימֶלֶךְ בַּבֹּקֶר, וַיִּקְרָא לְכָל-עֲבָדָיו, וַיְדַבֵּר אֶת-כָּל-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה, בְּאָזְנֵיהֶם; וַיִּירְאוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים, מְאֹד.
Vayashkem Avimelech baboker, vayikra lechol-avadav, vaydaber et-kol-hadevarim ha'eleh, be'ozneichem; vayiru ha'anashim, me'od.
And Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears; and the men were sore afraid.

וַיִּקְרָא אֲבִימֶלֶךְ לְאַבְרָהָם, וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ מֶה-עָשִׂיתָ לָּנוּ וּמֶה-חָטָאתִי לָךְ, כִּי-הֵבֵאתָ עָלַי וְעַל-מַמְלַכְתִּי, חֲטָאָה גְדֹלָה: מַעֲשִׂים אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יֵעָשׂוּ, עָשִׂיתָ עִמָּדִי.
Vayikra Avimelech le'Avraham, vayomer lo meh-asita lanu umeh-chatati lach, ki-heveita alai ve'al-mamlachti, chata'ah gedolah: ma'asim asher lo-ye'asu, asita immadi.
Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him: 'What hast thou done unto us? and wherein have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.'
10.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲבִימֶלֶךְ, אֶל-אַבְרָהָם: מָה רָאִיתָ, כִּי עָשִׂיתָ אֶת-הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה.
Vayomer Avimelech, el-Avraham: mah ra'ita, ki asita et-hadavar hazeh.
And Abimelech said unto Abraham: 'What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?'
11.
וַיֹּאמֶר, אַבְרָהָם, כִּי אָמַרְתִּי רַק אֵין-יִרְאַת אֱלֹהִים, בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה; וַהֲרָגוּנִי, עַל-דְּבַר אִשְׁתִּי.
Vayomer Avraham, ki amarti rak ein-yirat Elohim, bamakom hazeh; vaharaguni, al-devar ishti.
And Abraham said: 'Because I thought: Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.
12.
וְגַם-אָמְנָה, אֲחֹתִי בַת-אָבִי הִוא--אַךְ, לֹא בַת-אִמִּי; וַתְּהִי-לִי, לְאִשָּׁה.
ve'gam-amnah, achoti vat-avi hi--ach, lo vat-immi; vattehi-li, le'ishah.
And moreover she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and so she became my wife.
13.
וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר הִתְעוּ אֹתִי, אֱלֹהִים מִבֵּית אָבִי, וָאֹמַר לָהּ, זֶה חַסְדֵּךְ אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשִׂי עִמָּדִי: אֶל כָּל-הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר נָבוֹא שָׁמָּה, אִמְרִי-לִי אָחִי הוּא.
Vayehi ka'asher hit'u oti, Elohim mibeit avi, va'omar lah, zeh chasdek asher ta'asi immadi: el kol-hamakom asher navo shamma, imri-li achi hu.
And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her: This is thy kindness which thou shalt show unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me: He is my brother.'
14.
וַיִּקַּח אֲבִימֶלֶךְ צֹאן וּבָקָר, וַעֲבָדִים וּשְׁפָחֹת, וַיִּתֵּן, לְאַבְרָהָם; וַיָּשֶׁב לוֹ, אֵת שָׂרָה אִשְׁתּוֹ.
Vayikach Avimelech tzon uvaqar, va'avadim ushfachot, vayiten, le'Avraham; vayashav lo, et Sarah ishto.
And Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and men-servants and women-servants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲבִימֶלֶךְ, הִנֵּה אַרְצִי לְפָנֶיךָ: בַּטּוֹב בְּעֵינֶיךָ, שֵׁב.
Vayomer Avimelech, hineh artzi lefaneicha: batov be'eineicha, shev.
And Abimelech said: 'Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.'
16.
וּלְשָׂרָה אָמַר, הִנֵּה נָתַתִּי אֶלֶף כֶּסֶף לְאָחִיךְ--הִנֵּה הוּא-לָךְ כְּסוּת עֵינַיִם, לְכֹל אֲשֶׁר אִתָּךְ; וְאֵת כֹּל, וְנֹכָחַת.
u'lesarah amar, hineh natati elef kesef le'achich--hineh hu-lach kesut eynayim, lechol asher itach; ve'et kol, venochachat.
And unto Sarah he said: 'Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, it is for thee a covering of the eyes to all that are with thee; and before all men thou art righted.'
17.
וַיִּתְפַּלֵּל אַבְרָהָם, אֶל-הָאֱלֹהִים; וַיִּרְפָּא אֱלֹהִים אֶת-אֲבִימֶלֶךְ וְאֶת-אִשְׁתּוֹ, וְאַמְהֹתָיו--וַיֵּלֵדוּ.
Vayitpallel Avraham, el-ha'Elohim; vayirpa Elohim et-Avimelech ve'et-ishto, ve'amhotav--vayeiledou.
And Abraham prayed unto God; and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid-servants; and they bore children.
18.
כִּי-עָצֹר עָצַר יְהוָה, בְּעַד כָּל-רֶחֶם לְבֵית אֲבִימֶלֶךְ, עַל-דְּבַר שָׂרָה, אֵשֶׁת אַבְרָהָם.
Ki-atzor atzar YHWH, be'ad kol-rechem leveit Avimelech, al-devar Sarah, eshet Avraham.
For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
