1.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, בֹּא אֶל-פַּרְעֹה; וְדִבַּרְתָּ אֵלָיו, כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הָעִבְרִים, שַׁלַּח אֶת-עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי.
Vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, bo el-Par'oh; vedibarta elav, koh-amar YHWH Elohei ha'ivrim, shallach et-'ammi, veya'avduni.
Then the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him: Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
2.
כִּי אִם-מָאֵן אַתָּה, לְשַׁלֵּחַ, וְעוֹדְךָ, מַחֲזִיק בָּם.
ki im-ma'en attah, leshalle'ach, ve'odkha, machazik bam.
For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,
3.
הִנֵּה יַד-יְהוָה הוֹיָה, בְּמִקְנְךָ אֲשֶׁר בַּשָּׂדֶה, בַּסּוּסִים בַּחֲמֹרִים בַּגְּמַלִּים, בַּבָּקָר וּבַצֹּאן--דֶּבֶר, כָּבֵד מְאֹד.
hineh yad-YHWH hoyah, bemiknecha asher bassadeh, bassusim bachamorim baggemallim, babbakar uvetzot'n--dever, kaved me'od.
behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which are in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the herds, and upon the flocks; there shall be a very grievous murrain.
4.
וְהִפְלָה יְהוָה--בֵּין מִקְנֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל, וּבֵין מִקְנֵה מִצְרָיִם; וְלֹא יָמוּת מִכָּל-לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, דָּבָר.
Ve'hiflah YHWH--bein mikneh Yisrael, uvein mikneh Mitzrayim; ve'lo yamut mikkol-livnei Yisrael, davar.
And the LORD shall make a division between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt; and there shall nothing die of all that belongeth to the children of Israel.'
5.
וַיָּשֶׂם יְהוָה, מוֹעֵד לֵאמֹר: מָחָר, יַעֲשֶׂה יְהוָה הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה--בָּאָרֶץ.
vayasem YHWH mo'ed lemor: makhar, ya'aseh YHWH haddavar hazzeh--ba'aretz.
And the LORD appointed a set time, saying: 'Tomorrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.'
6.
וַיַּעַשׂ יְהוָה אֶת-הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה, מִמָּחֳרָת, וַיָּמָת, כֹּל מִקְנֵה מִצְרָיִם; וּמִמִּקְנֵה בְנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, לֹא-מֵת אֶחָד.
vayya'as YHWH et-haddavar hazzeh, mimmohorat, vayyammat, kol mikneh Mitzrayim; umimmikneh benei-Yisrael, lo-met echad.
And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died; but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
7.
וַיִּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה--וְהִנֵּה לֹא-מֵת מִמִּקְנֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל, עַד-אֶחָד; וַיִּכְבַּד לֵב פַּרְעֹה, וְלֹא שִׁלַּח אֶת-הָעָם.
vayishlach Par'oh, vehinneh lo-met mimmikneh Yisrael, ad-echad; vayikhbad lev Par'oh, velo shillach et-ha'am.
And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he did not let the people go.
8.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל-אַהֲרֹן, קְחוּ לָכֶם מְלֹא חָפְנֵיכֶם, פִּיחַ כִּבְשָׁן; וּזְרָקוֹ מֹשֶׁה הַשָּׁמַיְמָה, לְעֵינֵי פַרְעֹה.
vayomer YHWH el-Moshe ve'el-Aharon, kekhu lakhem melo khafneikhem, piakh kivshan; uzerako Moshe hashamaymah, le'einei Phar'oh.
And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron: 'Take to you handfuls of soot of the furnace, and let Moses throw it heavenward in the sight of Pharaoh.
9.
וְהָיָה לְאָבָק, עַל כָּל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; וְהָיָה עַל-הָאָדָם וְעַל-הַבְּהֵמָה, לִשְׁחִין פֹּרֵחַ אֲבַעְבֻּעֹת--בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vehaya le'avak, al kol-eretz Mitzrayim; vehaya al-ha'adam ve'al-habehemah, lishkhin pore'ah aba'bu'ot--bekhol-eretz Mitzrayim.
And it shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.'
10.
וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת-פִּיחַ הַכִּבְשָׁן, וַיַּעַמְדוּ לִפְנֵי פַרְעֹה, וַיִּזְרֹק אֹתוֹ מֹשֶׁה, הַשָּׁמָיְמָה; וַיְהִי, שְׁחִין אֲבַעְבֻּעֹת, פֹּרֵחַ, בָּאָדָם וּבַבְּהֵמָה.
vayikhu et-pi'ach hakivshan, vayya'amdu lifnei far'oh, vayyizrok oto Moshe, hashamaymah; vayhi, shchin avabbu'ot, poreach, ba'adam u-vabehemah.
And they took soot of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses threw it up heavenward; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast.
11.
וְלֹא-יָכְלוּ הַחַרְטֻמִּים, לַעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי מֹשֶׁה--מִפְּנֵי הַשְּׁחִין: כִּי-הָיָה הַשְּׁחִין, בַּחַרְטֻמִּם וּבְכָל-מִצְרָיִם.
velo-yakhelu hakhartumim, la'amod lifnei Moshe--mifpenei hashkhin: ki-haya hashkhin, bakhartumim uvevakhol-Mitzrayim.
And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.
12.
וַיְחַזֵּק יְהוָה אֶת-לֵב פַּרְעֹה, וְלֹא שָׁמַע אֲלֵהֶם: כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה.
vaykhazek YHWH et-lev Par'oh, ve'lo shama alehem: ka'asher diber YHWH, el-Moshe.
And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.
13.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, הַשְׁכֵּם בַּבֹּקֶר, וְהִתְיַצֵּב לִפְנֵי פַרְעֹה; וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו, כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הָעִבְרִים, שַׁלַּח אֶת-עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי.
Vayomer YHWH, el-Moshe, hashkem baboker, vehityatzev lifnei Par'oh; ve'amarta elav, koh-amar YHWH Elohei ha'ivrim, shallach et-'ammi, veya'avduni.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
14.
כִּי בַּפַּעַם הַזֹּאת, אֲנִי שֹׁלֵחַ אֶת-כָּל-מַגֵּפֹתַי אֶל-לִבְּךָ, וּבַעֲבָדֶיךָ, וּבְעַמֶּךָ--בַּעֲבוּר תֵּדַע, כִּי אֵין כָּמֹנִי בְּכָל-הָאָרֶץ.
ki bappa'am hazzot, ani shole'ah et-kol-magefotay el-libbekha, uva'avadekha, ube'ammekha--ba'avur teda, ki ein kamoni bekhol-ha'aretz.
For I will this time send all My plagues upon thy person, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like Me in all the earth.
15.
כִּי עַתָּה שָׁלַחְתִּי אֶת-יָדִי, וָאַךְ אוֹתְךָ וְאֶת-עַמְּךָ בַּדָּבֶר; וַתִּכָּחֵד, מִן-הָאָרֶץ.
ki 'attah shalakhti et yadi, va'akh otkha ve'et 'ammkha baddavar; vattikkached, min ha'aretz.
Surely now I had put forth My hand, and smitten thee and thy people with pestilence, and thou hadst been cut off from the earth.
16.
וְאוּלָם, בַּעֲבוּר זֹאת הֶעֱמַדְתִּיךָ, בַּעֲבוּר, הַרְאֹתְךָ אֶת-כֹּחִי; וּלְמַעַן סַפֵּר שְׁמִי, בְּכָל-הָאָרֶץ.
ve'ulam, ba'avur zot he'emadtikha, ba'avur, har'otekha et-kohik, ulema'an saper shemi, bekhol-ha'aretz.
But in very deed for this cause have I made thee to stand, to show thee My power, and that My name may be declared throughout all the earth.
17.
עוֹדְךָ, מִסְתּוֹלֵל בְּעַמִּי, לְבִלְתִּי, שַׁלְּחָם.
'odkha, mistolel be'ammi, levilti, shallelham.
As yet exaltest thou thyself against My people, that thou wilt not let them go?
18.
הִנְנִי מַמְטִיר כָּעֵת מָחָר, בָּרָד כָּבֵד מְאֹד, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-הָיָה כָמֹהוּ בְּמִצְרַיִם, לְמִן-הַיּוֹם הִוָּסְדָה וְעַד-עָתָּה.
hinnini mamtir ka'et makhar, barad kaved me'od, asher lo-hayah kamohu beMitzrayim, lemin-hayom hivvsedah ve'ad-'atah.
Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now.
19.
וְעַתָּה, שְׁלַח הָעֵז אֶת-מִקְנְךָ, וְאֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר לְךָ, בַּשָּׂדֶה: כָּל-הָאָדָם וְהַבְּהֵמָה אֲשֶׁר-יִמָּצֵא בַשָּׂדֶה, וְלֹא יֵאָסֵף הַבַּיְתָה--וְיָרַד עֲלֵהֶם הַבָּרָד, וָמֵתוּ.
ve'attah, shelakh ha'ez et-miknekha, ve'et kol-asher lekha, bassadeh: kol-ha'adam vehabbehemah asher-yimmaseh vassadeh, velo ye'asef habbaytah--veyarad alehem habbarad, vametu.
Now therefore send, hasten in thy cattle and all that thou hast in the field; for every man and beast that shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.'
20.
הַיָּרֵא אֶת-דְּבַר יְהוָה, מֵעַבְדֵי פַּרְעֹה--הֵנִיס אֶת-עֲבָדָיו וְאֶת-מִקְנֵהוּ, אֶל-הַבָּתִּים.
hayyareh et-devar YHWH, me'avdei Far'oh--henis et-avadav ve'et-miknehu, el-habattim.
He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses;
21.
וַאֲשֶׁר לֹא-שָׂם לִבּוֹ, אֶל-דְּבַר יְהוָה--וַיַּעֲזֹב אֶת-עֲבָדָיו וְאֶת-מִקְנֵהוּ, בַּשָּׂדֶה.
va'asher lo-sam libbo, el-devar YHWH--vayya'azov et-'avadav ve'et-miknehu, bassadeh.
and he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
22.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, נְטֵה אֶת-יָדְךָ עַל-הַשָּׁמַיִם, וִיהִי בָרָד, בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם: עַל-הָאָדָם וְעַל-הַבְּהֵמָה, וְעַל כָּל-עֵשֶׂב הַשָּׂדֶה--בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
Vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, neteh et-yadkha al-hashamayim, vihi varad, bekhol-eretz Mitzrayim: al-ha'adam ve'al-habehemah, ve'al kol-esev hassadeh--be'eretz Mitzrayim.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch forth thy hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.'
23.
וַיֵּט מֹשֶׁה אֶת-מַטֵּהוּ, עַל-הַשָּׁמַיִם, וַיהוָה נָתַן קֹלֹת וּבָרָד, וַתִּהֲלַךְ אֵשׁ אָרְצָה; וַיַּמְטֵר יְהוָה בָּרָד, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vayyet Moshe et-mattehu, 'al-hashamayim, vaYHWH natan qolot uvarad, vattihalekh esh artsah; vayyamter YHWH barad, 'al-eretz Mitzrayim.
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven; and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down unto the earth; and the LORD caused to hail upon the land of Egypt.
24.
וַיְהִי בָרָד--וְאֵשׁ, מִתְלַקַּחַת בְּתוֹךְ הַבָּרָד: כָּבֵד מְאֹד--אֲשֶׁר לֹא-הָיָה כָמֹהוּ בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, מֵאָז הָיְתָה לְגוֹי.
vayhi varad ve'esh mitlaqachat betokh habarad kaved me'od asher lo-hayah kamohu bekhol-eretz mitzrayim me'az hayetah legoy
So there was hail, and fire flashing up amidst the hail, very grievous, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
25.
וַיַּךְ הַבָּרָד בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר בַּשָּׂדֶה, מֵאָדָם, וְעַד-בְּהֵמָה; וְאֵת כָּל-עֵשֶׂב הַשָּׂדֶה הִכָּה הַבָּרָד, וְאֶת-כָּל-עֵץ הַשָּׂדֶה שִׁבֵּר.
vayakh habarad bekhol-eretz Mitzrayim, et kol-asher bassadeh, me'adam, ve'ad-behemah; ve'et kol-esev hassadeh hikkah habarad, ve'et-kol-etz hassadeh shibber.
And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.
26.
רַק בְּאֶרֶץ גֹּשֶׁן, אֲשֶׁר-שָׁם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל--לֹא הָיָה, בָּרָד.
rak be'eretz goshen, asher-sham benei Yisrael--lo hayah, barad.
Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.
27.
וַיִּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה, וַיִּקְרָא לְמֹשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן, וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם, חָטָאתִי הַפָּעַם: יְהוָה, הַצַּדִּיק, וַאֲנִי וְעַמִּי, הָרְשָׁעִים.
vayishlach Par'oh, vayikra leMoshe ule'Aharon, vayomer alehem, khatati hapa'am: YHWH, hatzaddik, va'ani ve'ammi, haresh'im.
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them: 'I have sinned this time; the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
28.
הַעְתִּירוּ, אֶל-יְהוָה, וְרַב, מִהְיֹת קֹלֹת אֱלֹהִים וּבָרָד; וַאֲשַׁלְּחָה אֶתְכֶם, וְלֹא תֹסִפוּן לַעֲמֹד.
ha'tiru, el-YHWH, verav, mihyot kolot Elohim uvarad; va'ashallekha etkhem, velo tosifun la'amot.
Entreat the LORD, and let there be enough of these mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.'
29.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו, מֹשֶׁה, כְּצֵאתִי אֶת-הָעִיר, אֶפְרֹשׂ אֶת-כַּפַּי אֶל-יְהוָה; הַקֹּלוֹת יֶחְדָּלוּן, וְהַבָּרָד לֹא יִהְיֶה-עוֹד, לְמַעַן תֵּדַע, כִּי לַיהוָה הָאָרֶץ.
Vayomer elav Moshe, k'tze'ti et-ha'ir, efros et-kappay el-YHWH; hakkolot yekhdalun, vehabarrad lo yihyeh-od, l'ma'an teda, ki laYHWH ha'aretz.
And Moses said unto him: 'As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread forth my hands unto the LORD; the thunders shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know that the earth is the LORD'S.
30.
וְאַתָּה, וַעֲבָדֶיךָ: יָדַעְתִּי--כִּי טֶרֶם תִּירְאוּן, מִפְּנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים.
ve'attah, va'avadeykha: yada'ti--ki terem tir'un, mippenei YHWH Elohim.
But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.'--
31.
וְהַפִּשְׁתָּה וְהַשְּׂעֹרָה, נֻכָּתָה: כִּי הַשְּׂעֹרָה אָבִיב, וְהַפִּשְׁתָּה גִּבְעֹל.
vehappishtah vehasse'orah, nukkatah: ki hasse'orah aviv, vehappishtah giv'ol.
And the flax and the barley were smitten; for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom.
32.
וְהַחִטָּה וְהַכֻּסֶּמֶת, לֹא נֻכּוּ: כִּי אֲפִילֹת, הֵנָּה.
veha場合はchittah vehakussemet, lo nukku: ki afilot, hennah.
But the wheat and the spelt were not smitten; for they ripen late.--
33.
וַיֵּצֵא מֹשֶׁה מֵעִם פַּרְעֹה, אֶת-הָעִיר, וַיִּפְרֹשׂ כַּפָּיו, אֶל-יְהוָה; וַיַּחְדְּלוּ הַקֹּלוֹת וְהַבָּרָד, וּמָטָר לֹא-נִתַּךְ אָרְצָה.
vayetze Moshe me'im Par'oh, et-ha'ir, vayifrosh kappav, el-YHWH; vayakhdelu haqqolot vehabarad, umatar lo-nittakh aretzah.
And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread forth his hands unto the LORD; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.
34.
וַיַּרְא פַּרְעֹה, כִּי-חָדַל הַמָּטָר וְהַבָּרָד וְהַקֹּלֹת--וַיֹּסֶף לַחֲטֹא; וַיַּכְבֵּד לִבּוֹ, הוּא וַעֲבָדָיו.
Vayyar Par'oh, ki-khadal hammatar vehabbarad vehakkolot--vayyosef lakhato; vayyakhbed libbo, hu va'avadav.
And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
35.
וַיֶּחֱזַק לֵב פַּרְעֹה, וְלֹא שִׁלַּח אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה, בְּיַד-מֹשֶׁה.
vayhekhezak lev Par'oh, ve'lo shillakh et-bene Yisrael: ka'asher dibber YHWH, beyad-Moshe.
And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.
