1.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֱמֹר אֶל-אַהֲרֹן נְטֵה אֶת-יָדְךָ בְּמַטֶּךָ, עַל-הַנְּהָרֹת עַל-הַיְאֹרִים וְעַל-הָאֲגַמִּים; וְהַעַל אֶת-הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vayomer YHWH, el-Moshe, emor el-Aharon nete et-yadkha bematekha, al-hanneharot al-hayeorim ve'al-ha'agamim; veha'al et-hatzfarde'im, al-eretz Mitzrayim.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto Aaron: Stretch forth thy hand with thy rod over the rivers, over the canals, and over the pools, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.'
2.
וַיֵּט אַהֲרֹן אֶת-יָדוֹ, עַל מֵימֵי מִצְרָיִם; וַתַּעַל, הַצְּפַרְדֵּעַ, וַתְּכַס, אֶת-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vayyet Aharon et yado, al meme Mitzrayim; vatta'al, hatzefardea, vattekhas, et eretz Mitzrayim.
And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.
3.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן הַחַרְטֻמִּים, בְּלָטֵיהֶם; וַיַּעֲלוּ אֶת-הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vayya'asu-khen hakhartumim, belatehem; vayya'alu et-hatzfard'im, 'al-eretz Mitzrayim.
And the magicians did in like manner with their secret arts, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
4.
וַיִּקְרָא פַרְעֹה לְמֹשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן, וַיֹּאמֶר הַעְתִּירוּ אֶל-יְהוָה, וְיָסֵר הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, מִמֶּנִּי וּמֵעַמִּי; וַאֲשַׁלְּחָה, אֶת-הָעָם, וְיִזְבְּחוּ, לַיהוָה.
vayikra Par'oh leMoshe ule'Aharon, vayomer ha'tiru el-YHWH, veyaser hatzpard'im, mimmeni ume'ammi; va'ashall'ha, et-ha'am, veyizbehu, laYHWH.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said: 'Entreat the LORD, that He take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice unto the LORD.'
5.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה לְפַרְעֹה, הִתְפָּאֵר עָלַי, לְמָתַי אַעְתִּיר לְךָ וְלַעֲבָדֶיךָ וּלְעַמְּךָ, לְהַכְרִית הַצְפַרְדְּעִים מִמְּךָ וּמִבָּתֶּיךָ: רַק בַּיְאֹר, תִּשָּׁאַרְנָה.
vayomer Moshe lephar'oh, hitpa'er 'alay, lematay a'tir lekha vela'avadekha ule'ammekha, lehakhrith hatzpharde'im mimmenkha umibatteykha: raq bay'or, tish'arnah.
And Moses said unto Pharaoh: 'Have thou this glory over me; against what time shall I entreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, that the frogs be destroyed from thee and thy houses, and remain in the river only?'
6.
וַיֹּאמֶר, לְמָחָר; וַיֹּאמֶר, כִּדְבָרְךָ--לְמַעַן תֵּדַע, כִּי-אֵין כַּיהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ.
vayomer lemachar vayomer kidvarokha lemaan teda ki en kayhwh Eloheynu.
And he said: 'Against to-morrow.' And he said: 'Be it according to thy word; that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.
7.
וְסָרוּ הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, מִמְּךָ וּמִבָּתֶּיךָ, וּמֵעֲבָדֶיךָ, וּמֵעַמֶּךָ: רַק בַּיְאֹר, תִּשָּׁאַרְנָה.
vesaru hatzFarde'im, mimekha umibatteykha, ume'avadeykha, ume'ammekha: rak bay'or, tishar'nah.
And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.'
8.
וַיֵּצֵא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן, מֵעִם פַּרְעֹה; וַיִּצְעַק מֹשֶׁה אֶל-יְהוָה, עַל-דְּבַר הַצְפַרְדְּעִים אֲשֶׁר-שָׂם לְפַרְעֹה.
vayyetze Moshe ve'Aharon, me'im Par'oh; vayyitz'aq Moshe el-YHWH, 'al-devar hatzfarde'im asher-sam lePar'oh.
And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh; and Moses cried unto the LORD concerning the frogs, which He had brought upon Pharaoh.
9.
וַיַּעַשׂ יְהוָה, כִּדְבַר מֹשֶׁה; וַיָּמֻתוּ, הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, מִן-הַבָּתִּים מִן-הַחֲצֵרֹת, וּמִן-הַשָּׂדֹת.
Vayya'as YHWH, kidvar Moshe; vayyamutu, hatzfa'rde'im, min-habbattim min-hachazerot, umin-hassadot.
And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courts, and out of the fields.
10.
וַיִּצְבְּרוּ אֹתָם, חֳמָרִם חֳמָרִם; וַתִּבְאַשׁ, הָאָרֶץ.
vayitzberu otam, khomarim khomarim; vattiv'ash, ha'aretz.
And they gathered them together in heaps; and the land stank.
11.
וַיַּרְא פַּרְעֹה, כִּי הָיְתָה הָרְוָחָה, וְהַכְבֵּד אֶת-לִבּוֹ, וְלֹא שָׁמַע אֲלֵהֶם: כַּאֲשֶׁר, דִּבֶּר יְהוָה.
vayyar par'oh, ki hayetah harovakhah, vehakhbed et-libbo, velo shama alehem: ka'asher, dibber YHWH.
But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken.
12.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֱמֹר אֶל-אַהֲרֹן, נְטֵה אֶת-מַטְּךָ וְהַךְ אֶת-עֲפַר הָאָרֶץ; וְהָיָה לְכִנִּם, בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
Vayomer YHWH, el-Moshe, emor el-Aharon, neteh et-mattekha vehakh et-afar ha'aretz; vehayah lekkhinnim, bekhol-eretz Mitzrayim.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto Aaron: Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the earth, that it may become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.'
13.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן, וַיֵּט אַהֲרֹן אֶת-יָדוֹ בְמַטֵּהוּ וַיַּךְ אֶת-עֲפַר הָאָרֶץ, וַתְּהִי הַכִּנָּם, בָּאָדָם וּבַבְּהֵמָה: כָּל-עֲפַר הָאָרֶץ הָיָה כִנִּים, בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
Vaya'asu-khen, vayet Aharon et-yado vemattehu vayakh et-afar ha'aretz, vatehi hakkinnam, ba'adam uvabbehemah: kol-afar ha'aretz hayah khinnim, bekhol-eretz Mitzrayim.
And they did so; and Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and there were gnats upon man, and upon beast; all the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.
14.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן הַחַרְטֻמִּים בְּלָטֵיהֶם לְהוֹצִיא אֶת-הַכִּנִּים, וְלֹא יָכֹלוּ; וַתְּהִי, הַכִּנָּם, בָּאָדָם, וּבַבְּהֵמָה.
vay'asu-khen hakhartumim b'latehem l'hotzi et-hakinim, v'lo yakholu; v'tehi, hakinnam, ba'adam, uvab'hemah.
And the magicians did so with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, but they could not; and there were gnats upon man, and upon beast.
15.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ הַחַרְטֻמִּם אֶל-פַּרְעֹה, אֶצְבַּע אֱלֹהִים הִוא; וַיֶּחֱזַק לֵב-פַּרְעֹה וְלֹא-שָׁמַע אֲלֵהֶם, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה.
vayomeru hakhartumim el-par'oh, etzba Elohim hi; vayekhezak lev-par'oh velo-shama alehem, kaasher diber YHWH.
Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh: 'This is the finger of God'; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken.
16.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, הַשְׁכֵּם בַּבֹּקֶר וְהִתְיַצֵּב לִפְנֵי פַרְעֹה--הִנֵּה, יוֹצֵא הַמָּיְמָה; וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו, כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, שַׁלַּח עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי.
vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, hashkem babboker vehityatzev lifnei Far'oh--hinneh, yotze hammaymah; ve'amarta elav, koh amar YHWH, shallach ammi, veya'avduni.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
17.
כִּי אִם-אֵינְךָ, מְשַׁלֵּחַ אֶת-עַמִּי--הִנְנִי מַשְׁלִיחַ בְּךָ וּבַעֲבָדֶיךָ וּבְעַמְּךָ וּבְבָתֶּיךָ, אֶת-הֶעָרֹב; וּמָלְאוּ בָּתֵּי מִצְרַיִם, אֶת-הֶעָרֹב, וְגַם הָאֲדָמָה, אֲשֶׁר-הֵם עָלֶיהָ.
ki im-einkha, meshalֵakh et-ammi--hinni mashliakh bekha uve'avadekha uve'ammkha uvebattekha, et-he'arov; umal'u battei Mitzrayim, et-he'arov, vegam ha'adamah, asher-hem aleha.
Else, if thou wilt not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.
18.
וְהִפְלֵיתִי בַיּוֹם הַהוּא אֶת-אֶרֶץ גֹּשֶׁן, אֲשֶׁר עַמִּי עֹמֵד עָלֶיהָ, לְבִלְתִּי הֱיוֹת-שָׁם, עָרֹב--לְמַעַן תֵּדַע, כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָה בְּקֶרֶב הָאָרֶץ.
vehipleti vayom hahu et-eretz goshen, asher amyi omed aleha, levilti heyot-sham, arov--lema'an teda, ki ani YHWH bekerev ha'aretz.
And I will set apart in that day the land of Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end that thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
19.
וְשַׂמְתִּי פְדֻת, בֵּין עַמִּי וּבֵין עַמֶּךָ; לְמָחָר יִהְיֶה, הָאֹת הַזֶּה.
vesamti fedut, bein ammi uvein ammekha; lemakhar yihyeh, ha'ot hazzeh.
And I will put a division between My people and thy people--by to-morrow shall this sign be.'
20.
וַיַּעַשׂ יְהוָה, כֵּן, וַיָּבֹא עָרֹב כָּבֵד, בֵּיתָה פַרְעֹה וּבֵית עֲבָדָיו; וּבְכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם תִּשָּׁחֵת הָאָרֶץ, מִפְּנֵי הֶעָרֹב.
vay'as YHWH, ken, vayavo 'arov kaved, betah Far'oh uveit 'avadav; uvkhol-eretz Mitzrayim tishakhet ha'aretz, mip'nei he'arov.
And the LORD did so; and there came grievous swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses; and in all the land of Egypt the land was ruined by reason of the swarms of flies.
21.
וַיִּקְרָא פַרְעֹה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן; וַיֹּאמֶר, לְכוּ זִבְחוּ לֵאלֹהֵיכֶם--בָּאָרֶץ.
Vayikra Par'oh, el-Moshe ul'Aharon; vayomer, lekhu zivhu leloheikhem--ba'aretz.
And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said: 'Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.'
22.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, לֹא נָכוֹן לַעֲשׂוֹת כֵּן, כִּי תּוֹעֲבַת מִצְרַיִם, נִזְבַּח לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ: הֵן נִזְבַּח אֶת-תּוֹעֲבַת מִצְרַיִם, לְעֵינֵיהֶם--וְלֹא יִסְקְלֻנוּ.
vayomer Moshe, lo nakhon la'asot ken, ki to'avat Mitzrayim, nizbach laYHWH Eloheinu: hen nizbach et-to'avat Mitzrayim, le'eineihem--velo yisqelunu.
And Moses said: 'It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God; lo, if we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us?
23.
דֶּרֶךְ שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים, נֵלֵךְ בַּמִּדְבָּר; וְזָבַחְנוּ לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ, כַּאֲשֶׁר יֹאמַר אֵלֵינוּ.
derekh sheloshet yamim, nelekh bammidbar; vezavakhnu laYHWH Eloheinu, ka'asher yomar eleinu.
We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as He shall command us.'
24.
וַיֹּאמֶר פַּרְעֹה, אָנֹכִי אֲשַׁלַּח אֶתְכֶם וּזְבַחְתֶּם לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם בַּמִּדְבָּר--רַק הַרְחֵק לֹא-תַרְחִיקוּ, לָלֶכֶת; הַעְתִּירוּ, בַּעֲדִי.
Vayomer Par'oh, anokhi ashallakh etykhem uzevakhtem laYHWH Eloheykhem bamidbar--rak harkhek lo-tarkhiku, lalekhet; ha'tiru, ba'adi.
And Pharaoh said: 'I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away; entreat for me.'
25.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי יוֹצֵא מֵעִמָּךְ וְהַעְתַּרְתִּי אֶל-יְהוָה, וְסָר הֶעָרֹב מִפַּרְעֹה מֵעֲבָדָיו וּמֵעַמּוֹ, מָחָר: רַק, אַל-יֹסֵף פַּרְעֹה הָתֵל, לְבִלְתִּי שַׁלַּח אֶת-הָעָם, לִזְבֹּחַ לַיהוָה.
vayomer Moshe, hinneh anokhi yotzei me'immakh veha'atarti el-YHWH, vesar he'arov miPar'oh me'avadav umeanmo, makhar: rak, al-yosef Par'oh hatel, levilti shallakh et-ha'am, lizbo'akh laYH
And Moses said: 'Behold, I go out from thee, and I will entreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow; only let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.'
26.
וַיֵּצֵא מֹשֶׁה, מֵעִם פַּרְעֹה; וַיֶּעְתַּר, אֶל-יְהוָה.
vayyetze Moshe, me'im Par'oh; vayyettar, el-YHWH.
And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the LORD.
27.
וַיַּעַשׂ יְהוָה, כִּדְבַר מֹשֶׁה, וַיָּסַר הֶעָרֹב, מִפַּרְעֹה מֵעֲבָדָיו וּמֵעַמּוֹ: לֹא נִשְׁאַר, אֶחָד.
vayya'as YHWH, kidvar Moshe, vayyasar he'arov, mippar'oh me'avadav ume'ammo: lo nish'ar, echad.
And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one.
28.
וַיַּכְבֵּד פַּרְעֹה אֶת-לִבּוֹ, גַּם בַּפַּעַם הַזֹּאת; וְלֹא שִׁלַּח, אֶת-הָעָם.
Vayakhbed Par'oh et libbo, gam bappa'am hazzot; velo shillah, et ha'am.
And Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he did not let the people go.
