1.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, רְאֵה נְתַתִּיךָ אֱלֹהִים לְפַרְעֹה; וְאַהֲרֹן אָחִיךָ, יִהְיֶה נְבִיאֶךָ.
Vayyomer YHWH el-Moshe, re'eh netattikha Elohim le-Par'oh; ve'Aharon achikha, yihyeh nevi'ekha.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'See, I have set thee in God's stead to Pharaoh; and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
2.
אַתָּה תְדַבֵּר, אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר אֲצַוֶּךָּ; וְאַהֲרֹן אָחִיךָ יְדַבֵּר אֶל-פַּרְעֹה, וְשִׁלַּח אֶת-בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאַרְצוֹ.
attah thedaber, et kol-asher atzavekha; ve'aharon achikha yedaber el-par'oh, veshillach et-bnei-Yisrael me'artzoh.
Thou shalt speak all that I command thee; and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
3.
וַאֲנִי אַקְשֶׁה, אֶת-לֵב פַּרְעֹה; וְהִרְבֵּיתִי אֶת-אֹתֹתַי וְאֶת-מוֹפְתַי, בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
va'ani aksheh, et-lev Par'oh; vehirbeiti et-ototay ve'et-mofetay, be'eretz Mitzrayim.
And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.
4.
וְלֹא-יִשְׁמַע אֲלֵכֶם פַּרְעֹה, וְנָתַתִּי אֶת-יָדִי בְּמִצְרָיִם; וְהוֹצֵאתִי אֶת-צִבְאֹתַי אֶת-עַמִּי בְנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, בִּשְׁפָטִים, גְּדֹלִים.
velo-yishma alekhem Paroh, venatatti et-yadi beMitzrayim; vehotzati et-tziv'otay et-ammi venei-Yisrael, me'eretz Mitzrayim, bishfatim, gedolim.
But Pharaoh will not hearken unto you, and I will lay My hand upon Egypt, and bring forth My hosts, My people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt, by great judgments.
5.
וְיָדְעוּ מִצְרַיִם כִּי-אֲנִי יְהוָה, בִּנְטֹתִי אֶת-יָדִי עַל-מִצְרָיִם; וְהוֹצֵאתִי אֶת-בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, מִתּוֹכָם.
veyad'u Mitzrayim ki-ani YHWH, bintoti et-yadi al-Mitzrayim; vehotzeti et-bene-Yisrael, mitokham.
And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth My hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.'
6.
וַיַּעַשׂ מֹשֶׁה, וְאַהֲרֹן--כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֹתָם, כֵּן עָשׂוּ.
vayya'as Moshe, ve'Aharon--ka'asher tzivwah YHWH otam, ken asu.
And Moses and Aaron did so; as the LORD commanded them, so did they.
7.
וּמֹשֶׁה, בֶּן-שְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה, וְאַהֲרֹן, בֶּן-שָׁלֹשׁ וּשְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה--בְּדַבְּרָם, אֶל-פַּרְעֹה.
Umosheh, ben-shemonim shanah, ve'Aharon, ben-shalosh ushemonim shanah--bedabram, el-par'oh.
And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spoke unto Pharaoh.
8.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל-אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר.
vayomer YHWH, el-Moshe ve'el-Aharon lemor.
And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:
9.
כִּי יְדַבֵּר אֲלֵכֶם פַּרְעֹה לֵאמֹר, תְּנוּ לָכֶם מוֹפֵת; וְאָמַרְתָּ אֶל-אַהֲרֹן, קַח אֶת-מַטְּךָ וְהַשְׁלֵךְ לִפְנֵי-פַרְעֹה--יְהִי לְתַנִּין.
ki yedaber alekhem Par'oh lemor, tenu lakhem mofet; ve'amarta el-Aharon, kakh et-mattekha vehashlekh lifnei-Par'oh--yehi letannin.
'When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying: Show a wonder for you; then thou shalt say unto Aaron: Take thy rod, and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent.'
10.
וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן, אֶל-פַּרְעֹה, וַיַּעֲשׂוּ כֵן, כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה; וַיַּשְׁלֵךְ אַהֲרֹן אֶת-מַטֵּהוּ, לִפְנֵי פַרְעֹה וְלִפְנֵי עֲבָדָיו--וַיְהִי לְתַנִּין.
vayavo Moshe ve'Aharon, el-par'oh, vayya'asu khen, ka'asher tzivwa YHWH; vayyashlekh Aharon et-mattehu, lifnei par'oh velifnei avadav--vayhi letannin.
And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so, as the LORD had commanded; and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
11.
וַיִּקְרָא, גַּם-פַּרְעֹה, לַחֲכָמִים, וְלַמְכַשְּׁפִים; וַיַּעֲשׂוּ גַם-הֵם חַרְטֻמֵּי מִצְרַיִם, בְּלַהֲטֵיהֶם--כֵּן.
vayikra, gam-par'oh, lachakhamim, velamkesh'efim; vayas'u gam-hem chartumei mitzrayim, belahathem--ken.
Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers; and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did in like manner with their secret arts.
12.
וַיַּשְׁלִיכוּ אִישׁ מַטֵּהוּ, וַיִּהְיוּ לְתַנִּינִם; וַיִּבְלַע מַטֵּה-אַהֲרֹן, אֶת-מַטֹּתָם.
vayashlichu ish mattehu, vayihyu letanninim; vayivla matteh-Aharon, et-mattotam.
For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents; but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
13.
וַיֶּחֱזַק לֵב פַּרְעֹה, וְלֹא שָׁמַע אֲלֵהֶם: כַּאֲשֶׁר, דִּבֶּר יְהוָה.
vayekhezak lev Par'oh, ve'lo shama alehem: ka'asher, dibber YHWH.
And Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken.
14.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, כָּבֵד לֵב פַּרְעֹה; מֵאֵן, לְשַׁלַּח הָעָם.
Vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, kaved lev Par'oh; me'en, leshalach ha'am.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Pharaoh's heart is stubborn, he refuseth to let the people go.
15.
לֵךְ אֶל-פַּרְעֹה בַּבֹּקֶר, הִנֵּה יֹצֵא הַמַּיְמָה, וְנִצַּבְתָּ לִקְרָאתוֹ, עַל-שְׂפַת הַיְאֹר; וְהַמַּטֶּה אֲשֶׁר-נֶהְפַּךְ לְנָחָשׁ, תִּקַּח בְּיָדֶךָ.
Lekh el-Par'oh habboker, hinneh yotze hammaymah, venitzavta likrato, 'al-sefat haye'or; vehamatteh asher-nehpakh lenachash, tikkach beyadekha.
Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thy hand.
16.
וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו, יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הָעִבְרִים שְׁלָחַנִי אֵלֶיךָ לֵאמֹר, שַׁלַּח אֶת-עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי בַּמִּדְבָּר; וְהִנֵּה לֹא-שָׁמַעְתָּ, עַד-כֹּה.
ve'amarta elav, YHWH Elohei ha'ivrim shelachani elekha lemor, shallach et-ammi, veya'avduni bammidbar; vehinneh lo-shamata, ad-koh.
And thou shalt say unto him: The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, hath sent me unto thee, saying: Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness; and, behold, hitherto thou hast not hearkened;
17.
כֹּה, אָמַר יְהוָה, בְּזֹאת תֵּדַע, כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָה: הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי מַכֶּה בַּמַּטֶּה אֲשֶׁר-בְּיָדִי, עַל-הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר בַּיְאֹר--וְנֶהֶפְכוּ לְדָם.
koh, amar YHWH, bezot teda, ki ani YHWH: hine anokhi makke bamatte asher-beyadi, al-hamayim asher baye'or--venehpekhu ledam.
thus saith the LORD: In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD--behold, I will smite with the rod that is in my hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
18.
וְהַדָּגָה אֲשֶׁר-בַּיְאֹר תָּמוּת, וּבָאַשׁ הַיְאֹר; וְנִלְאוּ מִצְרַיִם, לִשְׁתּוֹת מַיִם מִן-הַיְאֹר.
ve'haddagah asher-bay'or tamut, uva'ash hay'or; venil'u mitzrayim, lishtot mayim min-hay'or.
And the fish that are in the river shall die, and the river shall become foul; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink water from the river.'
19.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֱמֹר אֶל-אַהֲרֹן קַח מַטְּךָ וּנְטֵה-יָדְךָ עַל-מֵימֵי מִצְרַיִם עַל-נַהֲרֹתָם עַל-יְאֹרֵיהֶם וְעַל-אַגְמֵיהֶם וְעַל כָּל-מִקְוֵה מֵימֵיהֶם--וְיִהְיוּ-דָם; וְהָיָה דָם בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, וּבָעֵצִים וּבָאֲבָנִים.
Vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, emor el-Aharon kakh mattecha unteh-yadekha al-meymei Mitzrayim al-naharotam al-ye'orehem ve'al-agmehem ve'al kol-mikveh meimehem--veyihyu-dam; vehayah dam
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto Aaron: Take thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.'
20.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה, וַיָּרֶם בַּמַּטֶּה וַיַּךְ אֶת-הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר בַּיְאֹר, לְעֵינֵי פַרְעֹה, וּלְעֵינֵי עֲבָדָיו; וַיֵּהָפְכוּ כָּל-הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר-בַּיְאֹר, לְדָם.
vayya'asu-khen Moshe ve'Aharon ka'asher tzivwah YHWH, vayyarem bammatteh vayyakh et-hammayim asher baye'or, le'einei Phar'oh, ule'einei avadav; vayyehafekhu kol-hammayim asher-baye
And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
21.
וְהַדָּגָה אֲשֶׁר-בַּיְאֹר מֵתָה, וַיִּבְאַשׁ הַיְאֹר, וְלֹא-יָכְלוּ מִצְרַיִם, לִשְׁתּוֹת מַיִם מִן-הַיְאֹר; וַיְהִי הַדָּם, בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vehaddagah asher-baye'or metah, vayiv'ash haye'or, velo-yakhelu mitzrayim, lishtot mayim min-haye'or; vayhi haddam, bekhol-eretz mitzrayim.
And the fish that were in the river died; and the river became foul, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river; and the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.
22.
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ-כֵן חַרְטֻמֵּי מִצְרַיִם, בְּלָטֵיהֶם; וַיֶּחֱזַק לֵב-פַּרְעֹה וְלֹא-שָׁמַע אֲלֵהֶם, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה.
vayya'asu-ken khartummei mitzrayim, belatehem; vayyekhezak lev-par'oh velo-shama' alehem, ka'asher dibber YHWH.
And the magicians of Egypt did in like manner with their secret arts; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken.
23.
וַיִּפֶן פַּרְעֹה, וַיָּבֹא אֶל-בֵּיתוֹ; וְלֹא-שָׁת לִבּוֹ, גַּם-לָזֹאת.
vayifen Par'oh, vayavo el-beto; velo-shat libo, gam-lazot.
And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he lay even this to heart.
24.
וַיַּחְפְּרוּ כָל-מִצְרַיִם סְבִיבֹת הַיְאֹר, מַיִם לִשְׁתּוֹת: כִּי לֹא יָכְלוּ לִשְׁתֹּת, מִמֵּימֵי הַיְאֹר.
vayachperu khol-mitzrayim sevivot hay'or, mayim lishtot: ki lo yakhelu lishtot, mimey-mey hay'or.
And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
25.
וַיִּמָּלֵא, שִׁבְעַת יָמִים, אַחֲרֵי הַכּוֹת-יְהוָה, אֶת-הַיְאֹר.
vayimmale, shiv'at yamim, acharēi hakkot-YHWH, et-hayo'r.
And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.
26.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, בֹּא אֶל-פַּרְעֹה; וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו, כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, שַׁלַּח אֶת-עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי.
vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, bo el-Par'oh; ve'amarta elav, koh amar YHWH, shallach et-ammi, veya'avduni.
And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh, and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
27.
וְאִם-מָאֵן אַתָּה, לְשַׁלֵּחַ: הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי, נֹגֵף אֶת-כָּל-גְּבוּלְךָ--בַּצְפַרְדְּעִים.
ve'im-ma'en attah, leshalle'ach: hinneh anokhi, nogef et-kol-gevulkha--batzfarde'im.
And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs.
28.
וְשָׁרַץ הַיְאֹר, צְפַרְדְּעִים, וְעָלוּ וּבָאוּ בְּבֵיתֶךָ, וּבַחֲדַר מִשְׁכָּבְךָ וְעַל-מִטָּתֶךָ; וּבְבֵית עֲבָדֶיךָ וּבְעַמֶּךָ, וּבְתַנּוּרֶיךָ וּבְמִשְׁאֲרוֹתֶיךָ.
vesharatz haye'or, tzefrade'im, ve'alu uva'u beveytekha, uvakhadar mishkavkha ve'al-mitatekha; uveve'et avadeykha uva'amekha, uvetannureykha uvemish'aroteykha.
And the river shall swarm with frogs, which shall go up and come into thy house, and into thy bed-chamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneading-troughs.
29.
וּבְכָה וּבְעַמְּךָ, וּבְכָל-עֲבָדֶיךָ--יַעֲלוּ, הַצְפַרְדְּעִים.
uvekhal uve'ammekha, uve-khol-'avadekha--ya'alu, hatzifarde'im.
And the frogs shall come up both upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.'
