1.
וַיְהִי, בְּהַעֲלוֹת יְהוָה אֶת-אֵלִיָּהוּ, בַּסְעָרָה, הַשָּׁמָיִם; וַיֵּלֶךְ אֵלִיָּהוּ וֶאֱלִישָׁע, מִן-הַגִּלְגָּל.
vayhi, beha'alot YHWH et-Eliyahu, bas'arah, hashamayim; vayelekh Eliyahu ve'Elisha, min-hagalgal.
And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלִיָּהוּ אֶל-אֱלִישָׁע שֵׁב-נָא פֹה, כִּי יְהוָה שְׁלָחַנִי עַד-בֵּית-אֵל, וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלִישָׁע, חַי-יְהוָה וְחֵי-נַפְשְׁךָ אִם-אֶעֶזְבֶךָּ; וַיֵּרְדוּ, בֵּית-אֵל.
vayomer eliyahu el-elisha shev-na foh, ki YHWH shelachani ad-beit-el, vayomer elisha, chay-YHWH vechei-nafsheka im-aezevekka; vayeredu, beit-el.
And Elijah said unto Elisha: 'Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me as far as Beth-el.' And Elisha said: 'As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.' So they went down to Beth-el.--

וַיֵּצְאוּ בְנֵי-הַנְּבִיאִים אֲשֶׁר-בֵּית-אֵל, אֶל-אֱלִישָׁע, וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו, הֲיָדַעְתָּ כִּי הַיּוֹם יְהוָה לֹקֵחַ אֶת-אֲדֹנֶיךָ מֵעַל רֹאשֶׁךָ; וַיֹּאמֶר גַּם-אֲנִי יָדַעְתִּי, הֶחֱשׁוּ.
vaytseu venei-hanevi'im asher-beit-el, el-elisha, vayomeru elav, hayadanta ki hayom YHWH lokeach et-adoneicha me'al roshekha; vayomer gam-ani yadanti, heckhushu.
And the sons of the prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said unto him: 'Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to-day?' And he said: 'Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.'--

וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ אֵלִיָּהוּ אֱלִישָׁע שֵׁב-נָא פֹה, כִּי יְהוָה שְׁלָחַנִי יְרִיחוֹ, וַיֹּאמֶר, חַי-יְהוָה וְחֵי-נַפְשְׁךָ אִם-אֶעֶזְבֶךָּ; וַיָּבֹאוּ, יְרִיחוֹ.
vayomer lo eliyahu elisha shev-na foh, ki YHWH shelachani yericho, vayomer, chay-YHWH vechei-nafsheka im-aezevekka; vayavo'u, yericho.
And Elijah said unto him: 'Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho.' And he said: 'As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.' So they came to Jericho.--

וַיִּגְּשׁוּ בְנֵי-הַנְּבִיאִים אֲשֶׁר-בִּירִיחוֹ, אֶל-אֱלִישָׁע, וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו, הֲיָדַעְתָּ כִּי הַיּוֹם יְהוָה לֹקֵחַ אֶת-אֲדֹנֶיךָ מֵעַל רֹאשֶׁךָ; וַיֹּאמֶר גַּם-אֲנִי יָדַעְתִּי, הֶחֱשׁוּ.
vayiggshu venei-hanevi'im asher-biricho, el-elisha, vayomeru elav, hayadanta ki hayom YHWH lokeach et-adoneicha me'al roshekha; vayomer gam-ani yadanti, heckhushu.
And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said unto him: 'Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to-day?' And he answered: 'Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.'--

וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ אֵלִיָּהוּ שֵׁב-נָא פֹה, כִּי יְהוָה שְׁלָחַנִי הַיַּרְדֵּנָה, וַיֹּאמֶר, חַי-יְהוָה וְחֵי-נַפְשְׁךָ אִם-אֶעֶזְבֶךָּ; וַיֵּלְכוּ, שְׁנֵיהֶם.
vayomer lo eliyahu shev-na poh, ki YHWH shelachani hayardenah, vayomer, chai-YHWH vechey-nafshecha im-e'ezveka; vayelכו, sheneihem.
And Elijah said unto him: 'Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to the Jordan.' And he said: 'As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.' And they two went on.
7.
וַחֲמִשִּׁים אִישׁ מִבְּנֵי הַנְּבִיאִים, הָלְכוּ, וַיַּעַמְדוּ מִנֶּגֶד, מֵרָחוֹק; וּשְׁנֵיהֶם, עָמְדוּ עַל-הַיַּרְדֵּן.
vachamishim ish mibenei hanevi'im, halchu, vaya'amdu mineged, merachok; usheneihem, amdu al-hayarden.
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood over against them afar off; and they two stood by the Jordan.
8.
וַיִּקַּח אֵלִיָּהוּ אֶת-אַדַּרְתּוֹ וַיִּגְלֹם וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-הַמַּיִם, וַיֵּחָצוּ הֵנָּה וָהֵנָּה; וַיַּעַבְרוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם, בֶּחָרָבָה.
vayikach eliyahu et-adarto vayiglom vayakeh et-hamayim, vayechatzu henah vahenah; vaya'avru sheneihem, becharavah.
And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9.
וַיְהִי כְעָבְרָם, וְאֵלִיָּהוּ אָמַר אֶל-אֱלִישָׁע שְׁאַל מָה אֶעֱשֶׂה-לָּךְ, בְּטֶרֶם, אֶלָּקַח מֵעִמָּךְ; וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלִישָׁע, וִיהִי נָא פִּי-שְׁנַיִם בְּרוּחֲךָ אֵלָי.
vayehi che'avram, ve'eliyahu amar el-elisha she'al mah e'eseh-lach, beterem, ellekach me'immach; vayomer elisha, vihyi na pi-shnayim beruchacha elay.
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha: 'Ask what I shall do for thee, before I am taken from thee.' And Elisha said: 'I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.'
10.
וַיֹּאמֶר, הִקְשִׁיתָ לִשְׁאוֹל; אִם-תִּרְאֶה אֹתִי לֻקָּח מֵאִתָּךְ, יְהִי-לְךָ כֵן, וְאִם-אַיִן, לֹא יִהְיֶה.
vayomer, hikshita lishol; im-tir'e oti lukach me'ittach, yehi-lecha chen, ve'im-ayin, lo yihyeh.
And he said: 'Thou hast asked a hard thing; nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.'
11.
וַיְהִי, הֵמָּה הֹלְכִים הָלוֹךְ וְדַבֵּר, וְהִנֵּה רֶכֶב-אֵשׁ וְסוּסֵי אֵשׁ, וַיַּפְרִדוּ בֵּין שְׁנֵיהֶם; וַיַּעַל, אֵלִיָּהוּ, בַּסְעָרָה, הַשָּׁמָיִם.
vayhi, hemma holchim haloch vedaber, vehinneh rechev-esh v'susei esh, vayafridu bein shneihem; vaya'al, eliyahu, bas'arah, hashamayim.
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12.
וֶאֱלִישָׁע רֹאֶה, וְהוּא מְצַעֵק אָבִי אָבִי רֶכֶב יִשְׂרָאֵל וּפָרָשָׁיו, וְלֹא רָאָהוּ, עוֹד; וַיַּחֲזֵק, בִּבְגָדָיו, וַיִּקְרָעֵם, לִשְׁנַיִם קְרָעִים.
ve'elisha ro'eh, vehu metza'ek avi avi rechev yisrael ufarashav, velo ra'ahu, od; vayachazek, bivgadav, vayikra'em, lishnayim kera'im.
And Elisha saw it, and he cried: 'My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof!' And he saw him no more; and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13.
וַיָּרֶם אֶת-אַדֶּרֶת אֵלִיָּהוּ, אֲשֶׁר נָפְלָה מֵעָלָיו; וַיָּשָׁב וַיַּעֲמֹד, עַל-שְׂפַת הַיַּרְדֵּן.
vayarem et-aderet eliyahu, asher naflah me'alav; vayashav vaya'amod, al-sefat hayarden.
He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
14.
וַיִּקַּח אֶת-אַדֶּרֶת אֵלִיָּהוּ אֲשֶׁר-נָפְלָה מֵעָלָיו, וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-הַמַּיִם, וַיֹּאמַר, אַיֵּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֵלִיָּהוּ; אַף-הוּא וַיַּכֶּה אֶת-הַמַּיִם, וַיֵּחָצוּ הֵנָּה וָהֵנָּה, וַיַּעֲבֹר, אֱלִישָׁע.
vayikakh et-aderet Eliyahu asher-naf'lah me'alav, vayakeh et-hamayim, vayomer, ayeh YHWH Elohei Eliyahu; af-hu vayakeh et-hamayim, vayekhatzu henah vahenah, vaya'avor, Elisha.
And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said: 'Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?' and when he also had smitten the waters, they were divided hither and thither; and Elisha went over.
15.
וַיִּרְאֻהוּ בְנֵי-הַנְּבִיאִים אֲשֶׁר-בִּירִיחוֹ, מִנֶּגֶד, וַיֹּאמְרוּ, נָחָה רוּחַ אֵלִיָּהוּ עַל-אֱלִישָׁע; וַיָּבֹאוּ, לִקְרָאתוֹ, וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ-לוֹ, אָרְצָה.
vayir'uhu venei-hanevi'im asher-biriho, mineged, vayomru, nahah ruah Eliyahu al-Elisha; vayavo'u, likrato, vayishtakhavu-lo, artzah.
And when the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho some way off saw him, they said: 'The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha.' And they came to meet him, and bowed down to the ground before him.
16.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו הִנֵּה-נָא יֵשׁ-אֶת-עֲבָדֶיךָ חֲמִשִּׁים אֲנָשִׁים בְּנֵי-חַיִל, יֵלְכוּ נָא וִיבַקְשׁוּ אֶת-אֲדֹנֶיךָ--פֶּן-נְשָׂאוֹ רוּחַ יְהוָה, וַיַּשְׁלִכֵהוּ בְּאַחַד הֶהָרִים אוֹ בְּאַחַת הגיאות הַגֵּיאָיוֹת; וַיֹּאמֶר, לֹא תִשְׁלָחוּ.
vayomru elav hineh-na yesh-et-avadeykha khamishim anashim benei-khayil, yelkhu na vivakshu et-adoneykha--pen-nesa'o ruah YHWH, vayashlikhehu be'akhad heharim o be'akhat hage'ayot; vayomer, lo tishlakhu.
And they said unto him: 'Behold now, there are with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master; lest peradventure the spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley.' And he said: 'Ye shall not send.'
17.
וַיִּפְצְרוּ-בוֹ עַד-בֹּשׁ, וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁלָחוּ; וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ חֲמִשִּׁים אִישׁ, וַיְבַקְשׁוּ שְׁלֹשָׁה-יָמִים וְלֹא מְצָאֻהוּ.
vayiftseru-bo ad-bosh, vayomer shelakhu; vayishlukhu khamishim ish, vayvakshu sheloshah-yamim velo metsa'uhu.
And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said: 'Send.' They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
18.
וַיָּשֻׁבוּ אֵלָיו, וְהוּא יֹשֵׁב בִּירִיחוֹ; וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם, הֲלֹא-אָמַרְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם אַל-תֵּלֵכוּ.
vayashuvu elav, vehu yoshev virikho; vayomer alehem, halo-amarti aleikhem al-telekhu.
And they came back to him, while he tarried at Jericho; and he said unto them: 'Did I not say unto you: Go not?'
19.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אַנְשֵׁי הָעִיר, אֶל-אֱלִישָׁע, הִנֵּה-נָא מוֹשַׁב הָעִיר טוֹב, כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲדֹנִי רֹאֶה; וְהַמַּיִם רָעִים, וְהָאָרֶץ מְשַׁכָּלֶת.
vayomru anshei ha'ir, el-elisha, hine-na moshav ha'ir tov, ka'asher adoni ro'e; vehamayim ra'im, veha'aretz meshakalet.
And the men of the city said unto Elisha: 'Behold, we pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth; but the water is bad, and the land miscarrieth.
20.
וַיֹּאמֶר, קְחוּ-לִי צְלֹחִית חֲדָשָׁה, וְשִׂימוּ שָׁם, מֶלַח; וַיִּקְחוּ, אֵלָיו.
vayomer, kehu-li tzelokhit khadashah, vesimu sham, melakh; vayikhu, elav.
And he said: 'Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein.' And they brought it to him.
21.
וַיֵּצֵא אֶל-מוֹצָא הַמַּיִם, וַיַּשְׁלֶךְ-שָׁם מֶלַח; וַיֹּאמֶר כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה, רִפִּאתִי לַמַּיִם הָאֵלֶּה--לֹא-יִהְיֶה מִשָּׁם עוֹד, מָוֶת וּמְשַׁכָּלֶת.
vayetze el-motza hamayim, vayashlekh-sham melakh; vayomer koh-amar YHWH, ripfiti lamayim ha'eleh--lo-yihye misham od, mavet umeshakalet.
And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and said: 'Thus saith the LORD: I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or miscarrying.'
22.
וַיֵּרָפוּ הַמַּיִם, עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה, כִּדְבַר אֱלִישָׁע, אֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּר.
vayerafu hamayim ad hayom hazeh kidvar Elisha asher diber.
So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.
23.
וַיַּעַל מִשָּׁם, בֵּית-אֵל; וְהוּא עֹלֶה בַדֶּרֶךְ, וּנְעָרִים קְטַנִּים יָצְאוּ מִן-הָעִיר, וַיִּתְקַלְּסוּ-בוֹ וַיֹּאמְרוּ לוֹ, עֲלֵה קֵרֵחַ עֲלֵה קֵרֵחַ.
vaya'al misham bet-el vehu oleh vaderech unearim ketanim yatzu min-ha'ir vayitkalsu-bo vayo'meru lo aleh kere'ah aleh kere'ah.
And he went up from thence unto Beth-el; and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him: 'Go up, thou baldhead; go up, thou baldhead.'
24.
וַיִּפֶן אַחֲרָיו וַיִּרְאֵם, וַיְקַלְלֵם בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה; וַתֵּצֶאנָה שְׁתַּיִם דֻּבִּים, מִן-הַיַּעַר, וַתְּבַקַּעְנָה מֵהֶם, אַרְבָּעִים וּשְׁנֵי יְלָדִים.
vayifen acharav vayir'em vaykallem beshem YHWH vate'tse'nah shetayim dubim min-hayar'vatvake'nah mehem arba'im ushney yeladim.
And he looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tore forty and two children of them.
25.
וַיֵּלֶךְ מִשָּׁם, אֶל-הַר הַכַּרְמֶל; וּמִשָּׁם, שָׁב שֹׁמְרוֹן.
vayelech misham el-har hakarmel umisham shav Shomron.
And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
