1.
וַיִּפְשַׁע מוֹאָב בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, אַחֲרֵי מוֹת אַחְאָב.
vayifsha mo'av b'yisrael, akharei mot akh'av.
And Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
2.
וַיִּפֹּל אֲחַזְיָה בְּעַד הַשְּׂבָכָה, בַּעֲלִיָּתוֹ אֲשֶׁר בְּשֹׁמְרוֹן--וַיָּחַל; וַיִּשְׁלַח מַלְאָכִים, וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם לְכוּ דִרְשׁוּ בְּבַעַל זְבוּב אֱלֹהֵי עֶקְרוֹן, אִם-אֶחְיֶה, מֵחֳלִי זֶה.
vayipol akhazyah b'ad ha's'vakhah, ba'aliyato asher b'shomron--vayakhal; vayishlakh mal'akhim, vayomer alehem lekhu dirshu b'va'al z'vuv elohei ekron, im-akhyeh, me'kholi zeh.
And Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick; and he sent messengers, and said unto them: 'Go, inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this sickness.'

וּמַלְאַךְ יְהוָה, דִּבֶּר אֶל-אֵלִיָּה הַתִּשְׁבִּי, קוּם עֲלֵה, לִקְרַאת מַלְאֲכֵי מֶלֶךְ-שֹׁמְרוֹן; וְדַבֵּר אֲלֵהֶם--הֲמִבְּלִי אֵין-אֱלֹהִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, אַתֶּם הֹלְכִים לִדְרֹשׁ בְּבַעַל זְבוּב אֱלֹהֵי עֶקְרוֹן.
umal'akh YHWH, diber el-eliyah ha'tishbi, qum aleh, liqrat mal'akhei melekh-shomron; v'daber alehem--hamib'li ein-elohim b'yisrael, attem holekhim lidrosh b'va'al z'vuv elohei ekron.
But an angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite: 'Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them: Is it because there is no God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?
4.
וְלָכֵן, כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה, הַמִּטָּה אֲשֶׁר-עָלִיתָ שָּׁם לֹא-תֵרֵד מִמֶּנָּה, כִּי מוֹת תָּמוּת; וַיֵּלֶךְ, אֵלִיָּה.
velakhen, koh-amar YHWH, hamittah asher-alita sham lo-tered mimmennah, ki mot tamut; vayelekh, Eliyah.
Now therefore thus saith the LORD: Thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.' And Elijah departed.
5.
וַיָּשׁוּבוּ הַמַּלְאָכִים, אֵלָיו; וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם, מַה-זֶּה שַׁבְתֶּם.
vayashuvu hammalakhim, elav; vayomer alehem, mah-zeh shabtem.
And the messengers returned unto him, and he said unto them: 'Why is it that ye are returned?'
6.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו אִישׁ עָלָה לִקְרָאתֵנוּ, וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֵינוּ לְכוּ שׁוּבוּ אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר-שָׁלַח אֶתְכֶם, וְדִבַּרְתֶּם אֵלָיו כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה, הֲמִבְּלִי אֵין-אֱלֹהִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל אַתָּה שֹׁלֵחַ לִדְרֹשׁ בְּבַעַל זְבוּב אֱלֹהֵי עֶקְרוֹן; לָכֵן הַמִּטָּה אֲשֶׁר-עָלִיתָ שָּׁם, לֹא-תֵרֵד מִמֶּנָּה--כִּי-מוֹת תָּמוּת.
vayomru elav ish alah likratenu, vayomer eleynu lekhu shubu el-hammelekh asher-shalakh etkhem, vedibartem elav koh amar YHWH, hamibbeli ein-Elohim beyisrael attah sholeakh lidrosh beba'al zevub elohei ekron; lakhen hamittah asher-alita sham, lo-tered mimmennah--ki-mot tamut.
And they said unto him: 'There came up a man to meet us, and said unto us: Go, return unto the king that sent you, and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD: Is it because there is no God in Israel, that thou sendest to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.'
7.
וַיְדַבֵּר אֲלֵהֶם--מֶה מִשְׁפַּט הָאִישׁ, אֲשֶׁר עָלָה לִקְרַאתְכֶם; וַיְדַבֵּר אֲלֵיכֶם, אֶת-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה.
vaydabber alehem--meh mishpat ha'ish, asher alah likratkhem; vaydabber aleikhem, et-haddevarim ha'elleh.
And he said unto them: 'What manner of man was he that came up to meet you, and told you these words?'
8.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו, אִישׁ בַּעַל שֵׂעָר, וְאֵזוֹר עוֹר, אָזוּר בְּמָתְנָיו; וַיֹּאמַר, אֵלִיָּה הַתִּשְׁבִּי הוּא.
vayomeru elav, ish ba'al se'ar, ve'ezor or, azur bematnav; vayomer, eliyah hatishbi hu.
And they answered him: 'He was a hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins.' And he said: 'It is Elijah the Tishbite.'
9.
וַיִּשְׁלַח אֵלָיו שַׂר-חֲמִשִּׁים, וַחֲמִשָּׁיו; וַיַּעַל אֵלָיו, וְהִנֵּה יֹשֵׁב עַל-רֹאשׁ הָהָר, וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו, אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים הַמֶּלֶךְ דִּבֶּר רֵדָה.
vayishlach elav sar-chamishim, vachamishav; vaya'al elav, vehineh yoshev al-rosh hahar, vaydaber elav, ish haelohim hamelekh diber redah.
Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him; and, behold, he sat on the top of the hill. And he spoke unto him: 'O man of God, the king hath said: Come down.'
10.
וַיַּעֲנֶה אֵלִיָּהוּ, וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל-שַׂר הַחֲמִשִּׁים, וְאִם-אִישׁ אֱלֹהִים אָנִי, תֵּרֶד אֵשׁ מִן-הַשָּׁמַיִם וְתֹאכַל אֹתְךָ וְאֶת-חֲמִשֶּׁיךָ; וַתֵּרֶד אֵשׁ מִן-הַשָּׁמַיִם, וַתֹּאכַל אֹתוֹ וְאֶת-חֲמִשָּׁיו.
vaya'aneh eliyahu, vaydaber el-sar hachamishim, ve'im-ish elohim ani, tered esh min-hashamayim vetochal otcha ve'et-chamishekha; vatered esh min-hashamayim, vayochal oto ve'et-chamishav.
And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty: 'If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty.' And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
11.
וַיָּשָׁב וַיִּשְׁלַח אֵלָיו, שַׂר-חֲמִשִּׁים אַחֵר--וַחֲמִשָּׁיו; וַיַּעַן, וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו, אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים, כֹּה-אָמַר הַמֶּלֶךְ מְהֵרָה רֵדָה.
vayashav vayishlach elav, sar-chamishim acher--vachamishav; vaya'an, vaydaber elav, ish haelohim, koh-amar hamelekh meherah redah.
And again he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him: 'O man of God, thus hath the king said: Come down quickly.'
12.
וַיַּעַן אֵלִיָּה, וַיְדַבֵּר אֲלֵיהֶם, אִם-אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים אָנִי, תֵּרֶד אֵשׁ מִן-הַשָּׁמַיִם וְתֹאכַל אֹתְךָ וְאֶת-חֲמִשֶּׁיךָ; וַתֵּרֶד אֵשׁ-אֱלֹהִים מִן-הַשָּׁמַיִם, וַתֹּאכַל אֹתוֹ וְאֶת-חֲמִשָּׁיו.
vayya'an eliyahu, vaydabber alehem, im-ish ha'elohim ani, tered esh min-hashamayim vetokhal otkha ve'et-hamishekha; vattered esh-elohim min-hashamayim, vattokhal oto ve'et-hamishshav.
And Elijah answered and said unto them: 'If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty.' And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
13.
וַיָּשָׁב, וַיִּשְׁלַח שַׂר-חֲמִשִּׁים שְׁלִשִׁים--וַחֲמִשָּׁיו; וַיַּעַל וַיָּבֹא שַׂר-הַחֲמִשִּׁים הַשְּׁלִישִׁי וַיִּכְרַע עַל-בִּרְכָּיו לְנֶגֶד אֵלִיָּהוּ, וַיִּתְחַנֵּן אֵלָיו וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו, אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים, תִּיקַר-נָא נַפְשִׁי וְנֶפֶשׁ עֲבָדֶיךָ אֵלֶּה חֲמִשִּׁים בְּעֵינֶיךָ.
vayyashav, vayyishlah sar-hamishshim shelishim--vahamishshav; vayya'al vayyavo sar-hamishshim hashelishi vayyikhra al-birkayiv lneged eliyahu, vayyithannen elayiv vaydabber elayiv, ish ha'elohim, tikar-na nafshi venefesh avadeykha elleh hamishshim be'eyneykha.
And again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him: 'O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
14.
הִנֵּה יָרְדָה אֵשׁ, מִן-הַשָּׁמַיִם, וַתֹּאכַל אֶת-שְׁנֵי שָׂרֵי הַחֲמִשִּׁים הָרִאשֹׁנִים, וְאֶת-חֲמִשֵּׁיהֶם; וְעַתָּה, תִּיקַר נַפְשִׁי בְּעֵינֶיךָ.
hinneh yaredah esh, min-hashamayim, vattokhal et-shnei sarei hamishshim harishonim, ve'et-hamishekhem; ve'attah, tikar nafshi be'eyneykha.
Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in thy sight'
15.
וַיְדַבֵּר מַלְאַךְ יְהוָה, אֶל-אֵלִיָּהוּ, רֵד אוֹתוֹ, אַל-תִּירָא מִפָּנָיו; וַיָּקָם וַיֵּרֶד אוֹתוֹ, אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ.
vaydabber mal'akh YHWH, el-eliyahu, red oto, al-tira mippanav; vayyakom vayyered oto, el-hammelekh.
And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah: 'Go down with him; be not afraid of him.' And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
16.
וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה, יַעַן אֲשֶׁר-שָׁלַחְתָּ מַלְאָכִים לִדְרֹשׁ בְּבַעַל זְבוּב אֱלֹהֵי עֶקְרוֹן--הֲמִבְּלִי אֵין-אֱלֹהִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, לִדְרֹשׁ בִּדְבָרוֹ; לָכֵן הַמִּטָּה אֲשֶׁר-עָלִיתָ שָּׁם, לֹא-תֵרֵד מִמֶּנָּה--כִּי-מוֹת תָּמוּת.
vaydabér elav koh-amar YHWH, ya'an asher-shalakhta malakhim lidrosh beba'al zevuv Elohei 'ekron--hamibli ein-Elohim beyisrael, lidrosh bidvaro; lakhen hamitah asher-'alita sham, lo-tered mimena--ki-mot tamut.
And he said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD: Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed whether thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.'
17.
וַיָּמָת כִּדְבַר יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר-דִּבֶּר אֵלִיָּהוּ, וַיִּמְלֹךְ יְהוֹרָם תַּחְתָּיו, בִּשְׁנַת שְׁתַּיִם, לִיהוֹרָם בֶּן-יְהוֹשָׁפָט מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה: כִּי לֹא-הָיָה לוֹ, בֵּן.
vayamat kidvar YHWH asher-diber Eliyahu, vayimlokh Yehoram takhtav, bishnat shetayim, liyehoram ben-Yehoshafat melekh Yehuda: ki lo-haya lo, ben.
So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram began to reign in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.
18.
וְיֶתֶר דִּבְרֵי אֲחַזְיָהוּ, אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה: הֲלוֹא-הֵמָּה כְתוּבִים, עַל-סֵפֶר דִּבְרֵי הַיָּמִים--לְמַלְכֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.
veyeter divrei Akhazyahu, asher 'asah: halo-hema khetuvim, 'al-sefer divrei hayamim--lemalkhei Yisrael.
Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
