וּבַשָּׁנָה הַשְּׁבִעִית הִתְחַזַּק יְהוֹיָדָע, וַיִּקַּח אֶת-שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת לַעֲזַרְיָהוּ בֶן-יְרֹחָם וּלְיִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן-יְהוֹחָנָן וְלַעֲזַרְיָהוּ בֶן-עוֹבֵד וְאֶת-מַעֲשֵׂיָהוּ בֶן-עֲדָיָהוּ וְאֶת-אֱלִישָׁפָט בֶּן-זִכְרִי--עִמּוֹ בַבְּרִית.

uvashanah hashvi'it hitkhazzaq Yehoyada, vayyiqqakh et-sarei hame'ot la'Azaryahu ben-Yerokham uleYishma'el ben-Yehokhanan vela'Azaryahu ben-'Oved ve'et-Ma'aseyahu ben-'Adayahu ve'et-Elishafat ben-Zikhri--'immo vabbrit.

And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.

וַיָּסֹבּוּ, בִּיהוּדָה, וַיִּקְבְּצוּ אֶת-הַלְוִיִּם מִכָּל-עָרֵי יְהוּדָה, וְרָאשֵׁי הָאָבוֹת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיָּבֹאוּ, אֶל-יְרוּשָׁלִָם.

vayasobbu, biYhudah, vayyiqbevtsu et-halviyim mikkol-'arei Yehuda, vera'shei ha'avot leYisrael; vayyavo'u, el-Yerushalayim.

And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

וַיִּכְרֹת כָּל-הַקָּהָל בְּרִית בְּבֵית הָאֱלֹהִים, עִם-הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם, הִנֵּה בֶן-הַמֶּלֶךְ יִמְלֹךְ, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה, עַל-בְּנֵי דָוִיד.

vayikhrot kol-hakehal berit bebeit ha'Elohim, im-hamlekh; vayomer lahem, hineh ven-hamlekh yimlokh, ka'asher diber YHWH, al-bnei David.

And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them: 'Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD hath spoken concerning the sons of David.

זֶה הַדָּבָר, אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשׂוּ: הַשְּׁלִשִׁית מִכֶּם בָּאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת, לַכֹּהֲנִים וְלַלְוִיִּם, לְשֹׁעֲרֵי, הַסִּפִּים.

zeh hadavar, asher ta'asu: hashlishit mikem ba'ei hashabbat, lakohanim velalviyim, lesho'arei, hassippim.

This is the thing that ye shall do: a third part of you, that come in on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;

וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית בְּבֵית הַמֶּלֶךְ, וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית בְּשַׁעַר הַיְסוֹד; וְכָל-הָעָם--בְּחַצְרוֹת, בֵּית יְהוָה.

vehashlishit bebeit hamlekh, vehashlishit besha'ar hayesod; vekhal-ha'am--behatzrot, beit YHWH.

and a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.

וְאַל-יָבוֹא בֵית-יְהוָה, כִּי אִם-הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַמְשָׁרְתִים לַלְוִיִּם--הֵמָּה יָבֹאוּ, כִּי-קֹדֶשׁ הֵמָּה; וְכָל-הָעָם--יִשְׁמְרוּ, מִשְׁמֶרֶת יְהוָה.

ve'al-yavo beit-YHWH, ki im-hakohanim vehamshartim lalviyim--hemmah yavo'u, ki-qodesh hemmah; vekhal-ha'am--yishmeru, mishmeret YHWH.

But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall come in, for they are holy; but all the people shall keep the charge of the LORD.

וְהִקִּיפוּ הַלְוִיִּם אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ סָבִיב, אִישׁ וְכֵלָיו בְּיָדוֹ, וְהַבָּא אֶל-הַבַּיִת, יוּמָת; וִהְיוּ אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ, בְּבֹאוֹ וּבְצֵאתוֹ.

vehekifu halviyim et-hamelekh saviv, ish vekhelav beyado, vehaba el-habbayit, yumat; vihyu et-hamelekh, bevobo uvtseto.

And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever cometh into the house, let him be slain; and be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.'

וַיַּעֲשׂוּ הַלְוִיִּם וְכָל-יְהוּדָה, כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּה יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן, וַיִּקְחוּ אִישׁ אֶת-אֲנָשָׁיו, בָּאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת עִם יוֹצְאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת: כִּי לֹא פָטַר יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן, אֶת-הַמַּחְלְקוֹת.

vayasuu halviyim vekhal-yehudah, kekhol asher-tsivah yehoyada hakohen, vayikhu ish et-anashav, baei hashabbat im yotsei hashabbat: ki lo fatar yehoyada hakohen, et-hamahlakot.

So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath, with those that were to go out on the sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.

וַיִּתֵּן יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן לְשָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת, אֶת-הַחֲנִיתִים וְאֶת-הַמָּגִנּוֹת וְאֶת-הַשְּׁלָטִים, אֲשֶׁר, לַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִיד--אֲשֶׁר, בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים.

vayitten yehoyada hakohen lesarei hameot, et-hahanitim veet-hamaginot veet-hashlatim, asher, lamlekh david--asher, beit haelohim.

And Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds the spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in the house of God.

10.

וַיַּעֲמֵד אֶת-כָּל-הָעָם וְאִישׁ שִׁלְחוֹ בְיָדוֹ, מִכֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַיְמָנִית עַד-כֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַשְּׂמָאלִית, לַמִּזְבֵּחַ, וְלַבָּיִת--עַל-הַמֶּלֶךְ, סָבִיב.

vayaamad et-kol-haam veish shilho beyado, miketef habayit hayemanit ad-ketef habayit hassemalit, lamizbeah, velabayit--al-hamelekh, saviv.

And he set all the people, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, by the king round about.

11.

וַיּוֹצִיאוּ אֶת-בֶּן-הַמֶּלֶךְ, וַיִּתְּנוּ עָלָיו אֶת-הַנֵּזֶר וְאֶת-הָעֵדוּת, וַיַּמְלִיכוּ, אֹתוֹ; וַיִּמְשָׁחֻהוּ יְהוֹיָדָע וּבָנָיו, וַיֹּאמְרוּ יְחִי הַמֶּלֶךְ.

vayotsi'u et-ben-hamelekh, vayitnu alav et-hanezer ve'et-ha'edut, vayamlíkuhu oto; vayimshachuhu Yehoyada uvanayim, vayomru yechi hamelekh.

Then they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown and the insignia, and made him king; and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him; and they said: 'Long live the king.'

12.

וַתִּשְׁמַע עֲתַלְיָהוּ, אֶת-קוֹל הָעָם הָרָצִים, וְהַמְהַלְלִים, אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַתָּבוֹא אֶל-הָעָם, בֵּית יְהוָה.

vattishma atalyahu, et-kol ha'am haratsim, vehamhalilim, et-hamelekh; vattavo el-ha'am, beit YHWH.

And when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD;

13.

וַתֵּרֶא וְהִנֵּה הַמֶּלֶךְ עוֹמֵד עַל-עַמּוּדוֹ בַּמָּבוֹא, וְהַשָּׂרִים וְהַחֲצֹצְרוֹת עַל-הַמֶּלֶךְ, וְכָל-עַם הָאָרֶץ שָׂמֵחַ וְתוֹקֵעַ בַּחֲצֹצְרוֹת, וְהַמְשׁוֹרְרִים בִּכְלֵי הַשִּׁיר וּמוֹדִיעִים לְהַלֵּל; וַתִּקְרַע עֲתַלְיָהוּ אֶת-בְּגָדֶיהָ, וַתֹּאמֶר קֶשֶׁר קָשֶׁר.

vattere vehinneh hamelekh omed al-ammudo bammavo, vehasarim vehachatstsrot al-hamelekh, vekhal-am ha'aretz sameach vetokea bachatstsrot, vehameshorerim bikhlei hashir umodi'im lehallel; vattiqra atalyahu et-begadeha, vato'mer qesher qasher.

and she looked, and, behold, the king stood on his platform at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets; the singers also [played] on instruments of music, and led the singing of praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said: 'Treason, treason.'

14.

וַיּוֹצֵא יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן אֶת-שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת פְּקוּדֵי הַחַיִל, וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם הוֹצִיאוּהָ אֶל-מִבֵּית הַשְּׂדֵרוֹת, וְהַבָּא אַחֲרֶיהָ, יוּמַת בֶּחָרֶב: כִּי אָמַר הַכֹּהֵן, לֹא תְמִיתוּהָ בֵּית יְהוָה.

vayotse Yehoyada hakohen et-sarei hame'ot pequde hachayil, vayomer alehem hotsi'uha el-mibeit hasderot, vehaba achareiha, yumat becharev: ki amar hakohen, lo temituha beit YHWH.

And Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them: 'Have her forth between the ranks; and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword'; for the priest said: 'Slay her not in the house of the LORD.'

15.

וַיָּשִׂימוּ לָהּ יָדַיִם, וַתָּבוֹא אֶל-מְבוֹא שַׁעַר-הַסּוּסִים בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַיְמִיתוּהָ, שָׁם.

vayasimuhu yadayim, vattavo el-mevo sha'ar-hasusim beit hamelekh; vaymituha, sham.

So they made way for her; and she went to the entry of the horse gate to the king's house; and they slew her there.

16.

וַיִּכְרֹת יְהוֹיָדָע, בְּרִית--בֵּינוֹ, וּבֵין כָּל-הָעָם וּבֵין הַמֶּלֶךְ: לִהְיוֹת לְעָם, לַיהוָה.

vayikhrot yehoyada, berrit--beino, uvein kol-ha'am uvein hamelekh: lihyot le'am, layhwh.

And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, and all the people, and the king, that they should be the LORD'S people.

17.

וַיָּבֹאוּ כָל-הָעָם בֵּית-הַבַּעַל וַיִּתְּצֻהוּ, וְאֶת-מִזְבְּחֹתָיו וְאֶת-צְלָמָיו שִׁבֵּרוּ; וְאֵת, מַתָּן כֹּהֵן הַבַּעַל, הָרְגוּ, לִפְנֵי הַמִּזְבְּחוֹת.

vayavo'u kol-ha'am beit-haba'al vayittesuhu, ve'et-mizbechotav ve'et-tselamyav shibberu; ve'et, mattan kohen haba'al, haregu, lifnei hamizbechot.

And all the people went to the house of Baal, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

18.

וַיָּשֶׂם יְהוֹיָדָע פְּקֻדּוֹת בֵּית יְהוָה, בְּיַד הַכֹּהֲנִים הַלְוִיִּם אֲשֶׁר חָלַק דָּוִיד עַל-בֵּית יְהוָה, לְהַעֲלוֹת עֹלוֹת יְהוָה כַּכָּתוּב בְּתוֹרַת מֹשֶׁה, בְּשִׂמְחָה וּבְשִׁיר--עַל, יְדֵי דָוִיד.

vayasem yehoyada pekudot beit yhwh, beyad hakohenim halviyim asher chalak david al-beit yhwh, leha'alot olot yhwh kakkatuv betorat mosheh, besimcha uveshir--al, yedei david.

And Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD under the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt-offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the direction of David.

19.

וַיַּעֲמֵד, הַשּׁוֹעֲרִים, עַל-שַׁעֲרֵי, בֵּית יְהוָה; וְלֹא-יָבוֹא טָמֵא, לְכָל-דָּבָר.

vayya'amed, ha-sho'arim, 'al-sha'arei, beit YHWH; ve'lo-yavo tamei, le-khol-davar.

And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none that was unclean in any thing should enter in.

20.

וַיִּקַּח אֶת-שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת וְאֶת-הָאַדִּירִים וְאֶת-הַמּוֹשְׁלִים בָּעָם וְאֵת כָּל-עַם הָאָרֶץ, וַיּוֹרֶד אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ מִבֵּית יְהוָה, וַיָּבֹאוּ בְּתוֹךְ-שַׁעַר הָעֶלְיוֹן, בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַיּוֹשִׁיבוּ, אֶת-הַמֶּלֶךְ, עַל, כִּסֵּא הַמַּמְלָכָה.

vayyiqach et-sarei ha-me'ot ve'et-ha'addirim ve'et-ha-moshlim ba'am ve'et kol-'am ha'aretz, vayyored et-ha-melekh mibeit YHWH, vayyavo'u betokh-sha'ar ha-elyon, beit ha-melekh; vayyoshivu, et-ha-melekh, 'al, kisse ha-mamlakhah.

And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD; and they came through the upper gate unto the king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

21.

וַיִּשְׂמְחוּ כָל-עַם-הָאָרֶץ, וְהָעִיר שָׁקָטָה; וְאֶת-עֲתַלְיָהוּ, הֵמִיתוּ בֶחָרֶב.

vayyishmechu khol-'am-ha'aretz, ve-ha'ir shaqatah; ve'et-'atalyahu, hemitu ve-charev.

So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; and they slew Athaliah with the sword.
