1.
וַיִּתְחַזֵּק שְׁלֹמֹה בֶן-דָּוִיד, עַל-מַלְכוּתוֹ; וַיהוָה אֱלֹהָיו עִמּוֹ, וַיְגַדְּלֵהוּ לְמָעְלָה.
vayithchazek shelomoh ven-david, al-malkhuto; vayhwoh elohav immo, vaygaddellehu lema'lah.
And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.
2.
וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁלֹמֹה לְכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל לְשָׂרֵי הָאֲלָפִים וְהַמֵּאוֹת וְלַשֹּׁפְטִים, וּלְכֹל נָשִׂיא לְכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל--רָאשֵׁי הָאָבוֹת.
vayyomer shelomoh lekhal-yisrael lesarei ha'alafim vehamme'ot welashofetim, ulekhol nasi lekhal-yisrael--rashei ha'avot.
And Solomon spoke unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every prince in all Israel, the heads of the fathers' houses.
3.
וַיֵּלְכוּ, שְׁלֹמֹה וְכָל-הַקָּהָל עִמּוֹ, לַבָּמָה, אֲשֶׁר בְּגִבְעוֹן: כִּי-שָׁם הָיָה, אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד הָאֱלֹהִים, אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה מֹשֶׁה עֶבֶד-יְהוָה, בַּמִּדְבָּר.
vayyelekhu, shelomoh vekhal-haqahal immo, labamah, asher begiv'on: ki-sham hayah, ohel mo'ed haelohim, asher ashah mosheh eved-yhwh, bammidbar.
So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tent of meeting of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

אֲבָל, אֲרוֹן הָאֱלֹהִים הֶעֱלָה דָוִיד מִקִּרְיַת יְעָרִים, בַּהֵכִין לוֹ, דָּוִיד: כִּי נָטָה-לוֹ אֹהֶל, בִּירוּשָׁלִָם.
aval, aron haelohim he'elah david miqriyat ye'arim, bahekhin lo, david: ki nata-lo ohel, birushalim.
But the ark of God had David brought up from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

וּמִזְבַּח הַנְּחֹשֶׁת, אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה בְּצַלְאֵל בֶּן-אוּרִי בֶן-חוּר--שָׁם, לִפְנֵי מִשְׁכַּן יְהוָה; וַיִּדְרְשֵׁהוּ שְׁלֹמֹה, וְהַקָּהָל.
umizbeach hanechoshet, asher asah betzal'el ben-uri ben-chur--sham, lifnei mishkan YHWH; vayidreshehu shelomoh, vehakahal.
Moreover the brazen altar, that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, had been put before the tabernacle of the LORD; and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
6.
וַיַּעַל שְׁלֹמֹה שָׁם עַל-מִזְבַּח הַנְּחֹשֶׁת, לִפְנֵי יְהוָה, אֲשֶׁר, לְאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד; וַיַּעַל עָלָיו עֹלוֹת, אָלֶף.
vaya'al shelomoh sham al-mizbeach hanechoshet, lifnei YHWH, asher, le'ohel moed; vaya'al alav olot, elef.
And Solomon offered there, upon the brazen altar before the LORD, which was at the tent of meeting, he offered a thousand burnt-offerings upon it.
7.
בַּלַּיְלָה הַהוּא, נִרְאָה אֱלֹהִים לִשְׁלֹמֹה; וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ, שְׁאַל מָה אֶתֶּן-לָךְ.
ballailah hahu, nir'ah elohim lishlomoh; vayomer lo, she'al mah eten-lakh.
In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him: 'Ask what I shall give thee.'
8.
וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁלֹמֹה, לֵאלֹהִים, אַתָּה עָשִׂיתָ עִם-דָּוִיד אָבִי, חֶסֶד גָּדוֹל; וְהִמְלַכְתַּנִי, תַּחְתָּיו.
vayomer shelomoh, lelohim, attah asita im-david avi, chesed gadol; vehimlatani, tachtav.
And Solomon said unto God: 'Thou hast shown great kindness unto David my father, and hast made me king in his stead.
9.
עַתָּה, יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים--יֵאָמֵן דְּבָרְךָ, עִם דָּוִיד אָבִי: כִּי אַתָּה, הִמְלַכְתַּנִי, עַל-עַם, רַב כַּעֲפַר הָאָרֶץ.
'atah, YHWH Elohim--ye'amen devarikha, 'im David avi: ki 'atah, himlaktani, 'al-'am, rav ka'afar ha'aretz.
Now, O LORD God, let Thy promise unto David my father be established; for Thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
10.
עַתָּה, חָכְמָה וּמַדָּע תֶּן-לִי, וְאֵצְאָה לִפְנֵי הָעָם-הַזֶּה, וְאָבוֹאָה: כִּי-מִי יִשְׁפֹּט, אֶת-עַמְּךָ הַזֶּה הַגָּדוֹל.
'atah, khakhmah umada' ten-li, ve'etze'ah lifnei ha'am-hazeh, ve'avo'ah: ki-mi yishpot, 'et-'ammkha hazeh hagadol.
Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this Thy people, that is so great?'
11.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים לִשְׁלֹמֹה יַעַן אֲשֶׁר הָיְתָה זֹאת עִם-לְבָבֶךָ, וְלֹא-שָׁאַלְתָּ עֹשֶׁר נְכָסִים וְכָבוֹד וְאֵת נֶפֶשׁ שֹׂנְאֶיךָ, וְגַם-יָמִים רַבִּים, לֹא שָׁאָלְתָּ; וַתִּשְׁאַל-לְךָ, חָכְמָה וּמַדָּע, אֲשֶׁר תִּשְׁפּוֹט אֶת-עַמִּי, אֲשֶׁר הִמְלַכְתִּיךָ עָלָיו.
vayomer Elohim lishlomo ya'an asher haytah zot 'im-levavekha, velo-sha'alta 'osher nekhasim vekhavod ve'et nefesh sone'ekha, vegam-yamim rabbim, lo sha'alta; vattish'el-lekha, khakhmah umada', asher tishpot 'et-'ammi, asher himlaktikha 'alav.
And God said to Solomon: 'Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of them that hate thee, neither yet hast asked long life, but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge My people, over whom I have made thee king;
12.
הַחָכְמָה וְהַמַּדָּע, נָתוּן לָךְ; וְעֹשֶׁר וּנְכָסִים וְכָבוֹד, אֶתֶּן-לָךְ--אֲשֶׁר לֹא-הָיָה כֵן לַמְּלָכִים אֲשֶׁר לְפָנֶיךָ, וְאַחֲרֶיךָ לֹא יִהְיֶה-כֵּן.
hakhakhmah vehamadda', natun lakh; ve'osher unekhasim vekhavod, etten-lakh--asher lo-hayah khen lamelakhim asher lefaniekha, ve'akhariekha lo yihyeh-ken.
wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee, and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.'
13.
וַיָּבֹא שְׁלֹמֹה לַבָּמָה אֲשֶׁר-בְּגִבְעוֹן, יְרוּשָׁלִַם, מִלִּפְנֵי, אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד; וַיִּמְלֹךְ, עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל.
vayavo shlomo labamah asher-begiv'on yerushalayim millifnei ohel mo'ed vayimlokh al-yisrael.
So Solomon came [from his journey] to the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the tent of meeting, unto Jerusalem; and he reigned over Israel.
14.
וַיֶּאֱסֹף שְׁלֹמֹה, רֶכֶב וּפָרָשִׁים, וַיְהִי-לוֹ אֶלֶף וְאַרְבַּע-מֵאוֹת רֶכֶב, וּשְׁנֵים-עָשָׂר אֶלֶף פָּרָשִׁים; וַיַּנִּיחֵם בְּעָרֵי הָרֶכֶב, וְעִם-הַמֶּלֶךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָם.
vaye'esof shlomo rekhev ufarashim vayhi-lo elef ve'arba-me'ot rekhev ushney-asar elef parashim vayanikhem be'arei harekhev ve'im-hamelekh birushalayim.
And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
15.
וַיִּתֵּן הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת-הַכֶּסֶף וְאֶת-הַזָּהָב, בִּירוּשָׁלִַם--כָּאֲבָנִים; וְאֵת הָאֲרָזִים, נָתַן כַּשִּׁקְמִים אֲשֶׁר-בַּשְּׁפֵלָה--לָרֹב.
vayiten hamelekh et-hakeseF ve'et-hazahav birushalayim ka'avanim ve'et ha'arazim natan kashiqmim asher-bashphelah larov.
And the king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore-trees that are in the Lowland, for abundance.
16.
וּמוֹצָא הַסּוּסִים אֲשֶׁר לִשְׁלֹמֹה, מִמִּצְרָיִם; וּמִקְוֵא--סֹחֲרֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ, מִקְוֵא יִקְחוּ בִּמְחִיר.
umotza hasusim asher lishlomo mimmitzrayim umiqve sokhare hamelekh miqve yiqhu bimkhir.
And the horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt; also out of Keve, the king's merchants buying them of the men of Keve at a price.
17.
וַיַּעֲלוּ וַיּוֹצִיאוּ מִמִּצְרַיִם מֶרְכָּבָה, בְּשֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת כֶּסֶף, וְסוּס, בַּחֲמִשִּׁים וּמֵאָה; וְכֵן לְכָל-מַלְכֵי הַחִתִּים, וּמַלְכֵי אֲרָם--בְּיָדָם יוֹצִיאוּ.
vayya'alu vayyotzi'u mimmitzrayim merkhavah, beshesh me'ot kesef, vesus, bakhamishim ume'ah; vekhen lekhol-malkhei hakhatim, umalkhei aram--beyadam yotzi'u.
And they fetched up, and brought out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty; and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Aram, did they bring them out by their means.
18.
וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁלֹמֹה, לִבְנוֹת בַּיִת לְשֵׁם יְהוָה, וּבַיִת, לְמַלְכוּתוֹ.
vayyomer shelomoh, livnot bayit leshem YHWH, uvayit, lemalkhuto.
Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of the LORD, and a house for his kingdom.
