וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלִיָּהוּ הַתִּשְׁבִּי מִתֹּשָׁבֵי גִלְעָד, אֶל-אַחְאָב, חַי-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר עָמַדְתִּי לְפָנָיו, אִם-יִהְיֶה הַשָּׁנִים הָאֵלֶּה טַל וּמָטָר--כִּי, אִם-לְפִי דְבָרִי.
vayomer Eliyahu hatishbi mitosheve Gil'ad, el-Ach'av, chay-YHWH Elohei Yisrael asher amadti lefanav, im-yihyeh hashanim ha'eleh tal umatar--ki, im-lefi devari.
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said unto Ahab: 'As the LORD, the God of Israel, liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.'
2.
וַיְהִי דְבַר-יְהוָה, אֵלָיו לֵאמֹר.
vayehi devar-YHWH, elav lemor.
And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying:

לֵךְ מִזֶּה, וּפָנִיתָ לְּךָ קֵדְמָה; וְנִסְתַּרְתָּ בְּנַחַל כְּרִית, אֲשֶׁר עַל-פְּנֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן.
lech mizeh, ufanita lecha kedmah; venistarta benachal Kerit, asher al-penei hayarden.
'Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.
4.
וְהָיָה, מֵהַנַּחַל תִּשְׁתֶּה; וְאֶת-הָעֹרְבִים צִוִּיתִי, לְכַלְכֶּלְךָ שָׁם.
vehayah, mehannachal tishteh; ve'et-ha'orvim tziviti, lechalkelcha sham.
And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.'
5.
וַיֵּלֶךְ וַיַּעַשׂ, כִּדְבַר יְהוָה; וַיֵּלֶךְ, וַיֵּשֶׁב בְּנַחַל כְּרִית, אֲשֶׁר, עַל-פְּנֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן.
vayelekh vaya'as, kidvar YHWH; vayelekh, vayeshev benachal kerit, asher, al-penei hayarden.
So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD; for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.
6.
וְהָעֹרְבִים, מְבִאִים לוֹ לֶחֶם וּבָשָׂר בַּבֹּקֶר, וְלֶחֶם וּבָשָׂר, בָּעָרֶב; וּמִן-הַנַּחַל, יִשְׁתֶּה.
veha'orvim, mevi'im lo lechem uvasar baboker, velechem uvasar, ba'arev; umin-hanachal, yishteh.
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
7.
וַיְהִי מִקֵּץ יָמִים, וַיִּיבַשׁ הַנָּחַל: כִּי לֹא-הָיָה גֶשֶׁם, בָּאָרֶץ.
vayhi miketz yamim, vayyevash hanachal: ki lo-hayah geshem, ba'aretz.
And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.
8.
וַיְהִי דְבַר-יְהוָה, אֵלָיו לֵאמֹר.
vayhi devar-YHWH, elav lemor.
And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying:

קוּם לֵךְ צָרְפַתָה אֲשֶׁר לְצִידוֹן, וְיָשַׁבְתָּ שָׁם; הִנֵּה צִוִּיתִי שָׁם אִשָּׁה אַלְמָנָה, לְכַלְכְּלֶךָ.
kum lekH tzarefatah asher letzidon, veyashavta sham; hinneh tzivitivi sham ishah almanah, lekhalKelekha.
'Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain thee.'
10.
וַיָּקָם וַיֵּלֶךְ צָרְפַתָה, וַיָּבֹא אֶל-פֶּתַח הָעִיר, וְהִנֵּה-שָׁם אִשָּׁה אַלְמָנָה, מְקֹשֶׁשֶׁת עֵצִים; וַיִּקְרָא אֵלֶיהָ וַיֹּאמַר, קְחִי-נָא לִי מְעַט-מַיִם בַּכְּלִי וְאֶשְׁתֶּה.
vayakom vayelekh tzarefatah, vayavo el-petach ha'ir, vehinneh-sham ishah almanah, mekosheshet etzim; vayikra eleha vayomer, kechi-na li meat-mayim baKli ve'eshteh.
So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her, and said: 'Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.'
11.
וַתֵּלֶךְ, לָקַחַת; וַיִּקְרָא אֵלֶיהָ וַיֹּאמַר, לִקְחִי-נָא לִי פַּת-לֶחֶם בְּיָדֵךְ.
vattelech, lakachat; vayikra eleha vayomer, likchi-na li pat-lechem beyadekha.
And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said: 'Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.'
12.
וַתֹּאמֶר, חַי-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אִם-יֶשׁ-לִי מָעוֹג, כִּי אִם-מְלֹא כַף-קֶמַח בַּכַּד, וּמְעַט-שֶׁמֶן בַּצַּפָּחַת; וְהִנְנִי מְקֹשֶׁשֶׁת שְׁנַיִם עֵצִים, וּבָאתִי וַעֲשִׂיתִיהוּ לִי וְלִבְנִי, וַאֲכַלְנֻהוּ, וָמָתְנוּ.
vattomer, chay-YHWH elohekha im-yesh-li maog, ki im-melo khaf-kemah baKad, umeat-shemen batzapatachat; vehineni mekosheshet shenayim etzim, uvati va'asitihuhu li velivni, va'akhalnuhu, vamatanu.
And she said: 'As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, only a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse; and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.'
13.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ אֵלִיָּהוּ אַל-תִּירְאִי, בֹּאִי עֲשִׂי כִדְבָרֵךְ; אַךְ עֲשִׂי-לִי מִשָּׁם עֻגָה קְטַנָּה בָרִאשֹׁנָה, וְהוֹצֵאת לִי, וְלָךְ וְלִבְנֵךְ, תַּעֲשִׂי בָּאַחֲרֹנָה.
vayomer eleha eliyahu al-tiri bo'i asi khidvarekh akh asi-li misham ugah qetanah varishonah vehotset li velakh velivnekh ta'asi ba'aharonah
And Elijah said unto her: 'Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it forth unto me, and afterward make for thee and for thy son.
14.
כִּי כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, כַּד הַקֶּמַח לֹא תִכְלָה, וְצַפַּחַת הַשֶּׁמֶן, לֹא תֶחְסָר: עַד יוֹם תתן- תֵּת- יְהוָה, גֶּשֶׁם--עַל-פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה.
ki kho amar YHWH elohei Yisrael kad haqemah lo tikhleh vetzafat hathemen lo thehasar ad yom tet YHWH geshem al-penei ha'adamah
For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: The jar of meal shall not be spent, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the land.'
15.
וַתֵּלֶךְ וַתַּעֲשֶׂה, כִּדְבַר אֵלִיָּהוּ; וַתֹּאכַל הוא-והיא הִיא-וָהוּא וּבֵיתָהּ, יָמִים.
vatelekh vata'aseh khidevar eliyahu vato'kal hi-vahu ubeitah yamim
And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16.
כַּד הַקֶּמַח לֹא כָלָתָה, וְצַפַּחַת הַשֶּׁמֶן לֹא חָסֵר--כִּדְבַר יְהוָה, אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר בְּיַד אֵלִיָּהוּ.
kad haqemah lo khaltah vetzafat hathemen lo khaser khidevar YHWH asher diber beyad eliyahu
The jar of meal was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by Elijah.
17.
וַיְהִי, אַחַר הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה, חָלָה, בֶּן-הָאִשָּׁה בַּעֲלַת הַבָּיִת; וַיְהִי חָלְיוֹ חָזָק מְאֹד, עַד אֲשֶׁר לֹא-נוֹתְרָה-בּוֹ נְשָׁמָה.
vayhi, akhar hadevarim ha'eleh, khalah, ben-ha'ishah ba'alat habayit; vayhi khalyo khazak me'od, ad asher lo-notrah-bo neshamah.
And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18.
וַתֹּאמֶר, אֶל-אֵלִיָּהוּ, מַה-לִּי וָלָךְ, אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים: בָּאתָ אֵלַי לְהַזְכִּיר אֶת-עֲוֺנִי, וּלְהָמִית אֶת-בְּנִי.
vato'mer, el-Eliyahu, mah-li valakh, ish haElohim: bata elay lehazkir et-avoni, ulehamit et-beni.
And she said unto Elijah: 'What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?'
19.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ, תְּנִי-לִי אֶת-בְּנֵךְ; וַיִּקָּחֵהוּ מֵחֵיקָהּ, וַיַּעֲלֵהוּ אֶל-הָעֲלִיָּה אֲשֶׁר-הוּא יֹשֵׁב שָׁם, וַיַּשְׁכִּבֵהוּ, עַל-מִטָּתוֹ.
vayo'mer eleha, teni-li et-benekh; vayikakhehu mekheykah, vay'alehu el-ha'aliyah asher-hu yoshev sham, vayashkivehu, al-mitato.
And he said unto her: 'Give me thy son.' And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20.
וַיִּקְרָא אֶל-יְהוָה, וַיֹּאמַר: יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי--הֲגַם עַל-הָאַלְמָנָה אֲשֶׁר-אֲנִי מִתְגּוֹרֵר עִמָּהּ הֲרֵעוֹתָ, לְהָמִית אֶת-בְּנָהּ.
vayikra el-YHWH, vayo'mar: YHWH Elohay--hagam al-ha'almanah asher-ani mitgoorer imah hare'ota, lehamit et-benah.
And he cried unto the LORD, and said: 'O LORD my God, hast Thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?'
21.
וַיִּתְמֹדֵד עַל-הַיֶּלֶד שָׁלֹשׁ פְּעָמִים, וַיִּקְרָא אֶל-יְהוָה וַיֹּאמַר: יְהוָה אֱלֹהָי, תָּשָׁב נָא נֶפֶשׁ-הַיֶּלֶד הַזֶּה עַל-קִרְבּוֹ.
vayitmoded al-hayeled shalosh pe'amim, vayikra el-YHWH vayomer: YHWH Elohai, tashav na nefesh-hayeled hazeh al-kirbo.
And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said: 'O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come back into him.'
22.
וַיִּשְׁמַע יְהוָה, בְּקוֹל אֵלִיָּהוּ; וַתָּשָׁב נֶפֶשׁ-הַיֶּלֶד עַל-קִרְבּוֹ, וַיֶּחִי.
vayshma YHWH, bekol Eliyahu; vatashav nefesh-hayeled al-kirbo, vayechi.
And the LORD hearkened unto the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back into him, and he revived.
23.
וַיִּקַּח אֵלִיָּהוּ אֶת-הַיֶּלֶד, וַיֹּרִדֵהוּ מִן-הָעֲלִיָּה הַבַּיְתָה, וַיִּתְּנֵהוּ, לְאִמּוֹ; וַיֹּאמֶר, אֵלִיָּהוּ, רְאִי, חַי בְּנֵךְ.
vayikach Eliyahu et-hayeled, vayoridehu min-ha'aliyah habaytah, vayitnehu, le'imho; vayomer, Eliyahu, re'i, chay benech.
And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother; and Elijah said: 'See, thy son liveth.'
24.
וַתֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁה, אֶל-אֵלִיָּהוּ, עַתָּה זֶה יָדַעְתִּי, כִּי אִישׁ אֱלֹהִים אָתָּה; וּדְבַר-יְהוָה בְּפִיךָ, אֱמֶת.
vatomer ha'ishah, el-Eliyahu, attah zeh yadati, ki ish Elohim attah; udevar-YHWH beficha, emet.
And the woman said to Elijah: 'Now I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.'
