1.
וּמַלְכַּת-שְׁבָא, שֹׁמַעַת אֶת-שֵׁמַע שְׁלֹמֹה--לְשֵׁם יְהוָה; וַתָּבֹא לְנַסֹּתוֹ, בְּחִידוֹת.
Umalkat-Sheva, shoma'at et-shema Shlomo--leshem YHWH; vattavo lenasoto, bechidot.
And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon because of the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions.
2.
וַתָּבֹא יְרוּשָׁלְַמָה, בְּחַיִל כָּבֵד מְאֹד, גְּמַלִּים נֹשְׂאִים בְּשָׂמִים וְזָהָב רַב-מְאֹד, וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה; וַתָּבֹא, אֶל-שְׁלֹמֹה, וַתְּדַבֵּר אֵלָיו, אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר הָיָה עִם-לְבָבָהּ.
Vattavo Yerushalaymah, bechayil kaved me'od, gemalim nose'im besamim vezahav rav-me'od, ve'even yekarah; vattavo, el-Shlomo, vatedaber elav, et kol-asher hayah im-levavah.
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices and gold very much, and precious stones; and when she was come to Solomon, she spoke with him of all that was in her heart.
3.
וַיַּגֶּד-לָהּ שְׁלֹמֹה, אֶת-כָּל-דְּבָרֶיהָ: לֹא-הָיָה דָבָר נֶעְלָם מִן-הַמֶּלֶךְ, אֲשֶׁר לֹא הִגִּיד לָהּ.
Vayaged-lah Shelomoh, et-kol-devareha: lo-hayah davar ne'alam min-hamelekh, asher lo higid lah.
And Solomon told her all her questions; there was not any thing hid from the king which he told her not.
4.
וַתֵּרֶא, מַלְכַּת-שְׁבָא, אֵת, כָּל-חָכְמַת שְׁלֹמֹה; וְהַבַּיִת, אֲשֶׁר בָּנָה.
Vatere, malkat-sheva, et, kol-chakhmat Shelomoh; vehabayit, asher banah.
And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,

וּמַאֲכַל שֻׁלְחָנוֹ וּמוֹשַׁב עֲבָדָיו וּמַעֲמַד מְשָׁרְתָו וּמַלְבֻּשֵׁיהֶם, וּמַשְׁקָיו, וְעֹלָתוֹ, אֲשֶׁר יַעֲלֶה בֵּית יְהוָה; וְלֹא-הָיָה בָהּ עוֹד, רוּחַ.
Uma'akhal shulchano umoshav avadav uma'amad mesharatav umalbushehem, umashkayv, ve'olato, asher ya'aleh beit YHWH; velo-hayah vah od, ruach.
and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his burnt-offering which he offered in the house of the LORD, there was no more spirit in her.
6.
וַתֹּאמֶר, אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ, אֱמֶת הָיָה הַדָּבָר, אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְתִּי בְּאַרְצִי--עַל-דְּבָרֶיךָ, וְעַל-חָכְמָתֶךָ.
Vatomer, el-hamelekh, emet hayah hadavar, asher shamanti be'artsi--al-devarekha, ve'al-chakhmatekha.
And she said to the king: 'It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom.
7.
וְלֹא-הֶאֱמַנְתִּי לַדְּבָרִים, עַד אֲשֶׁר-בָּאתִי וַתִּרְאֶינָה עֵינַי, וְהִנֵּה לֹא-הֻגַּד-לִי, הַחֵצִי: הוֹסַפְתָּ חָכְמָה וָטוֹב, אֶל-הַשְּׁמוּעָה אֲשֶׁר שָׁמָעְתִּי.
velo-he'emanti ladevarim, ad asher-bati vatir'eynah einay, vehinneh lo-huggad-li, hachetsi: hosafta chokmah vatov, el-hashmu'ah asher shamati.
Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it; and, behold, the half was not told me; thou hast wisdom and prosperity exceeding the fame which I heard.
8.
אַשְׁרֵי אֲנָשֶׁיךָ, אַשְׁרֵי עֲבָדֶיךָ אֵלֶּה, הָעֹמְדִים לְפָנֶיךָ תָּמִיד, הַשֹּׁמְעִים אֶת-חָכְמָתֶךָ.
ashrei anasheycha, ashrei avadeycha elleh, ha'omdim lefaneicha tamid, hashom'im et-chokmatecha.
Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, that stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.
9.
יְהִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, בָּרוּךְ, אֲשֶׁר חָפֵץ בְּךָ, לְתִתְּךָ עַל-כִּסֵּא יִשְׂרָאֵל--בְּאַהֲבַת יְהוָה אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל, לְעֹלָם, וַיְשִׂימְךָ לְמֶלֶךְ, לַעֲשׂוֹת מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה.
yehi YHWH eloheycha, baruch, asher chaphets becha, letittecha al-kisse Yisrael--be'ahavat YHWH et-Yisrael, le'olam, vayasimecha lemelech, la'asot mishpat utsedakah.
Blessed be the LORD thy God, who delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel; because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made He thee king, to do justice and righteousness.'
10.
וַתִּתֵּן לַמֶּלֶךְ מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים כִּכַּר זָהָב, וּבְשָׂמִים הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד--וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה; לֹא בָא כַבֹּשֶׂם הַהוּא עוֹד לָרֹב, אֲשֶׁר-נָתְנָה מַלְכַּת-שְׁבָא לַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה.
vatitten lammelech me'ah ve'esrim kikkar zahav, uvsamim harbeh me'od--ve'even yקרה [yekarah]; lo ba kabosem hahu od larov, asher-natnah malkat-sheva lammelech Shelomoh.
And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones; there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.
11.
וְגַם אֳנִי חִירָם, אֲשֶׁר-נָשָׂא זָהָב מֵאוֹפִיר: הֵבִיא מֵאֹפִיר עֲצֵי אַלְמֻגִּים, הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד--וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה.
ve'gam oni khiram, asher-nasa zahav me'ofir: hevi me'ofir atzei almuggim, harbeh me'od--ve'even yekarah.
And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of sandal-wood and precious stones.
12.
וַיַּעַשׂ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת-עֲצֵי הָאַלְמֻגִּים מִסְעָד לְבֵית-יְהוָה, וּלְבֵית הַמֶּלֶךְ, וְכִנֹּרוֹת וּנְבָלִים, לַשָּׁרִים; לֹא בָא-כֵן עֲצֵי אַלְמֻגִּים, וְלֹא נִרְאָה, עַד, הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה.
vaya'as hamelekh et-atzei ha'almuggim mis'ad lebeit-YHWH, ulebeit hamelekh, vekhinnotot unvelim, lasharim; lo va-khen atzei almuggim, velo nir'ah, ad, hayom hazeh.
And the king made of the sandal-wood pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for the singers; there came no such sandal-wood, nor was seen, unto this day.
13.
וְהַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה נָתַן לְמַלְכַּת-שְׁבָא, אֶת-כָּל-חֶפְצָהּ אֲשֶׁר שָׁאָלָה, מִלְּבַד אֲשֶׁר נָתַן-לָהּ, כְּיַד הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה; וַתֵּפֶן וַתֵּלֶךְ לְאַרְצָהּ, הִיא וַעֲבָדֶיהָ.
vehamelekh shlomo natan lemalkat-sheva, et-kol-cheftsah asher sha'alah, millevad asher natan-lah, keyad hamelekh shlomo; vatefen vatelech le'artzah, hi va'avadeha.
And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants.
14.
וַיְהִי מִשְׁקַל הַזָּהָב, אֲשֶׁר-בָּא לִשְׁלֹמֹה בְּשָׁנָה אֶחָת--שֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת שִׁשִּׁים וָשֵׁשׁ, כִּכַּר זָהָב.
vayehi mishkal hazahav, asher-ba lishlomo beshanah achat--shesh me'ot shishim vashesh, kikkar zahav.
Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold,
15.
לְבַד מֵאַנְשֵׁי הַתָּרִים, וּמִסְחַר הָרֹכְלִים, וְכָל-מַלְכֵי הָעֶרֶב, וּפַחוֹת הָאָרֶץ.
levad me'anshey hatarim, umiskhar harokhim, vekhol-malkhey ha'erev, ufakhot ha'aretz.
beside that which came of the merchants, and of the traffic of the traders, and of all the kings of the mingled people and of the governors of the country.
16.
וַיַּעַשׂ הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה מָאתַיִם צִנָּה, זָהָב שָׁחוּט; שֵׁשׁ-מֵאוֹת זָהָב, יַעֲלֶה עַל-הַצִּנָּה הָאֶחָת.
vaya'as hamelekh shlomo matayim tzinah, zahav shakhut; shesh-me'ot zahav, ya'aleh al-hatzinah ha'akhat.
And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of gold went to one target.
17.
וּשְׁלֹשׁ-מֵאוֹת מָגִנִּים, זָהָב שָׁחוּט--שְׁלֹשֶׁת מָנִים זָהָב, יַעֲלֶה עַל-הַמָּגֵן הָאֶחָת; וַיִּתְּנֵם הַמֶּלֶךְ, בֵּית יַעַר הַלְּבָנוֹן.
ushlosh-me'ot maginim, zahav shakhut--shloshet manim zahav, ya'aleh al-hamagen ha'akhat; vayitenem hamelekh, beit ya'ar halevanon.
And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold: three pounds of gold went to one shield; and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.
18.
וַיַּעַשׂ הַמֶּלֶךְ כִּסֵּא-שֵׁן, גָּדוֹל; וַיְצַפֵּהוּ, זָהָב מוּפָז.
vaya'as hamelekh kise-shen, gadol; vaytzapehu, zahav mufaz.
Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the finest gold.
19.
שֵׁשׁ מַעֲלוֹת לַכִּסֵּה, וְרֹאשׁ-עָגֹל לַכִּסֵּה מֵאַחֲרָיו, וְיָדֹת מִזֶּה וּמִזֶּה, אֶל-מְקוֹם הַשָּׁבֶת; וּשְׁנַיִם אֲרָיוֹת, עֹמְדִים אֵצֶל הַיָּדוֹת.
shesh ma'alot lakiseh, ve'rosh-agol lakiseh me'aharav, ve'yadot mizeh umizeh, el-mekom hashavet; ushnayim arayot, omdim etsel hayadot.
There were six steps to the throne, and the top of the throne was round behind; and there were arms on either side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the arms.
20.
וּשְׁנֵים עָשָׂר אֲרָיִים, עֹמְדִים שָׁם עַל-שֵׁשׁ הַמַּעֲלוֹת--מִזֶּה וּמִזֶּה; לֹא-נַעֲשָׂה כֵן, לְכָל-מַמְלָכוֹת.
ushneim asar arayim, omdim sham al-shesh hama'alot--mizeh umizeh; lo-na'asah khen, lekhol-mamlakhot.
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps; there was not the like made in any kingdom.
21.
וְכֹל כְּלֵי מַשְׁקֵה הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה, זָהָב, וְכֹל כְּלֵי בֵּית-יַעַר הַלְּבָנוֹן, זָהָב סָגוּר: אֵין כֶּסֶף, לֹא נֶחְשָׁב בִּימֵי שְׁלֹמֹה--לִמְאוּמָה.
vekhol kelei mashkeh hamelekh shelomoh, zahav, vekhol kelei beit-ya'ar halevanon, zahav sagur: ein kesef, lo nehshav bimei shelomoh--lim'umah.
And all king Solomon's drinking-vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver; it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
22.
כִּי אֳנִי תַרְשִׁישׁ לַמֶּלֶךְ בַּיָּם, עִם אֳנִי חִירָם; אַחַת לְשָׁלֹשׁ שָׁנִים תָּבוֹא אֳנִי תַרְשִׁישׁ, נֹשְׂאֵת זָהָב וָכֶסֶף, שֶׁנְהַבִּים וְקֹפִים, וְתֻכִּיִּים.
ki oni tarshish lamelekh bayam, im oni hiram; ahat leshalosh shanim tavo oni tarshish, nose'et zahav vakesef, shenhabim veqofim, vetuki'im.
For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram; once every three years came the navy of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
23.
וַיִּגְדַּל הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה, מִכֹּל מַלְכֵי הָאָרֶץ--לְעֹשֶׁר, וּלְחָכְמָה.
vayigdal hamelekh Shelomoh, mikol malkhei ha'aretz--le'osher, ulekhakhmah.
So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.
24.
וְכָל-הָאָרֶץ--מְבַקְשִׁים, אֶת-פְּנֵי שְׁלֹמֹה: לִשְׁמֹעַ, אֶת-חָכְמָתוֹ, אֲשֶׁר-נָתַן אֱלֹהִים, בְּלִבּוֹ.
vekhol-ha'aretz--mevakshim, et-penei Shelomoh: lishmo'a, et-khakhmato, asher-natan Elohim, belibo.
And all the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
25.
וְהֵמָּה מְבִאִים אִישׁ מִנְחָתוֹ כְּלֵי כֶסֶף וּכְלֵי זָהָב וּשְׂלָמוֹת, וְנֵשֶׁק וּבְשָׂמִים, סוּסִים, וּפְרָדִים--דְּבַר-שָׁנָה, בְּשָׁנָה.
vehemah mevi'im ish minkhato kelei kesef ukheli zahav ushelamot, venesekh uvesamim, susim, uferadim--devar-shanah, beshanah.
And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and raiment, and armour, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
26.
וַיֶּאֱסֹף שְׁלֹמֹה, רֶכֶב וּפָרָשִׁים, וַיְהִי-לוֹ אֶלֶף וְאַרְבַּע-מֵאוֹת רֶכֶב, וּשְׁנֵים-עָשָׂר אֶלֶף פָּרָשִׁים; וַיַּנְחֵם בְּעָרֵי הָרֶכֶב, וְעִם-הַמֶּלֶךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָם.
vaye'esof Shelomoh, rekhev ufarashim, vayehi-lo elef ve'arba-me'ot rekhev, ushneim-asar elef parashim; vayankhem be'arei harekhev, ve'im-hamelekh birushalayim.
And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen; and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
27.
וַיִּתֵּן הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת-הַכֶּסֶף בִּירוּשָׁלִַם, כָּאֲבָנִים; וְאֵת הָאֲרָזִים, נָתַן כַּשִּׁקְמִים אֲשֶׁר-בַּשְּׁפֵלָה--לָרֹב.
vayiten hamelekh et-hakesef birushalayim ka'avanim ve'et ha'arazim natan kashikmim asher-bashfela larov
And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore-trees that are in the Lowland, for abundance.
28.
וּמוֹצָא הַסּוּסִים אֲשֶׁר לִשְׁלֹמֹה, מִמִּצְרָיִם; וּמִקְוֵה--סֹחֲרֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ, יִקְחוּ מִקְוֵה בִּמְחִיר.
umotza hasusim asher lishlomo mimmitsrayim umikveh sohare hamelekh yikhu mikveh bimchir
And the horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt; also out of Keveh, the king's merchants buying them of the men of Keveh at a price.
29.
וַתַּעֲלֶה וַתֵּצֵא מֶרְכָּבָה מִמִּצְרַיִם, בְּשֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת כֶּסֶף, וְסוּס, בַּחֲמִשִּׁים וּמֵאָה; וְכֵן לְכָל-מַלְכֵי הַחִתִּים, וּלְמַלְכֵי אֲרָם--בְּיָדָם יֹצִאוּ.
vataleh vateze merkava mimmitsrayim beshesh me'ot kesef vesus bachamishim ume'ah vekhen lekhol-malkhei hachitim ulemalkhei aram beyadam yotzi'u
And a chariot came up and went out of Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty; and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Aram, did they bring them out by their means.
