1.
וַיִּשְׁלַח חירם חוּרָם מֶלֶךְ-צֹר מַלְאָכִים, אֶל-דָּוִיד, וַעֲצֵי אֲרָזִים, וְחָרָשֵׁי קִיר וְחָרָשֵׁי עֵצִים--לִבְנוֹת לוֹ, בָּיִת.
vayishlach khiram khuram melekh-tzor mal'akhim, el-david, va'atzei arazim, vekharashei kir vekharashei etzim--livnot lo, bayit.
And Huram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.
2.
וַיֵּדַע דָּוִיד, כִּי-הֱכִינוֹ יְהוָה לְמֶלֶךְ עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל: כִּי-נִשֵּׂאת לְמַעְלָה מַלְכוּתוֹ, בַּעֲבוּר עַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל.
vayeda david, ki-hekino YHWH lemelekh al-yisrael: ki-nisse't lema'lah malkhuto, ba'avur ammo yisrael.
And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was exalted exceedingly, for His people Israel's sake.
3.
וַיִּקַּח דָּוִיד עוֹד נָשִׁים, בִּירוּשָׁלִָם; וַיּוֹלֶד דָּוִיד עוֹד, בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת.
vayikakh david od nashim, birushalayim; vayyoled david od, banim uvanot.
And David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David begot more sons and daughters.
4.
וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת הַיְלוּדִים, אֲשֶׁר הָיוּ-לוֹ בִּירוּשָׁלִָם: שַׁמּוּעַ וְשׁוֹבָב, נָתָן וּשְׁלֹמֹה.
ve'eleh shemot hayeludim, asher hayu-lo birushalayim: shammua veshovav, natan ushlomoh.
And these are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon;

וְיִבְחָר וֶאֱלִישׁוּעַ, וְאֶלְפָּלֶט.
ve'yivchar ve'elishu'a, ve'elpalet.
and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet;
6.
וְנֹגַהּ וְנֶפֶג, וְיָפִיעַ.
ve'nogah ve'nefeg, ve'yafi'a.
and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia;
7.
וֶאֱלִישָׁמָע וּבְעֶלְיָדָע, וֶאֱלִיפָלֶט.
ve'elishama uve'elyada, ve'elipalet.
and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8.
וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים, כִּי-נִמְשַׁח דָּוִיד לְמֶלֶךְ עַל-כָּל-יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַיַּעֲלוּ כָל-פְּלִשְׁתִּים, לְבַקֵּשׁ אֶת-דָּוִיד; וַיִּשְׁמַע דָּוִיד, וַיֵּצֵא לִפְנֵיהֶם.
vayishme'u felishtim, ki-nimshach David le'melech al-kol-Yisrael, vaya'alu chol-pelishtim, levakesh et-David; vayishma David, vayetze lifnehem.
And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went out to meet them.
9.
וּפְלִשְׁתִּים, בָּאוּ; וַיִּפְשְׁטוּ, בְּעֵמֶק רְפָאִים.
u'felishtim ba'u vayifshutu be'emek refaim
Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.
10.
וַיִּשְׁאַל דָּוִיד בֵּאלֹהִים, לֵאמֹר--הַאֶעֱלֶה עַל-פלשתיים פְּלִשְׁתִּים, וּנְתַתָּם בְּיָדִי; וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ יְהוָה עֲלֵה, וּנְתַתִּים בְּיָדֶךָ.
vayish'al David be'Elohim lemor ha'e'eleh al-pelishtim pelishtim unetatam beyadi vayomer lo YHWH aleh unetatim beyadecha
And David inquired of God, saying: 'Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt Thou deliver them into my hand?' And the LORD said unto him: 'Go up; for I will deliver them into thy hand.'
11.
וַיַּעֲלוּ בְּבַעַל-פְּרָצִים, וַיַּכֵּם שָׁם דָּוִיד, וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד, פָּרַץ הָאֱלֹהִים אֶת-אוֹיְבַי בְּיָדִי כְּפֶרֶץ מָיִם; עַל-כֵּן, קָרְאוּ שֵׁם-הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא--בַּעַל פְּרָצִים.
vay'alu be'Ba'al-peratzim vayakem sham David vayomer David paratz ha'Elohim et-oyevay beyadi keferetz mayim al-ken kar'u shem-hamakom hahu Ba'al peratzim
So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said: 'God hath broken mine enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters.' Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
12.
וַיַּעַזְבוּ שָׁם, אֶת-אֱלֹהֵיהֶם; וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד, וַיִּשָּׂרְפוּ בָּאֵשׁ.
vaya'azu sham et-elohehem vayomer David vayisrafu ba'esh
And they left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13.
וַיֹּסִיפוּ עוֹד פְּלִשְׁתִּים, וַיִּפְשְׁטוּ בָּעֵמֶק.
vayosifu od pelishtim, vayifshotu ba'emek.
And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.
14.
וַיִּשְׁאַל עוֹד דָּוִיד, בֵּאלֹהִים, וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ הָאֱלֹהִים, לֹא תַעֲלֶה אַחֲרֵיהֶם: הָסֵב, מֵעֲלֵיהֶם, וּבָאתָ לָהֶם, מִמּוּל הַבְּכָאִים.
vayshal od David, be'Elohim, vayomer lo haElohim, lo ta'aleh achareihem: hasev, me'aleihem, uvata lahem, mimul habeka'im.
And David inquired again of God; and God said unto him: 'Thou shalt not go up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees.
15.
וִיהִי כְּשָׁמְעֲךָ אֶת-קוֹל הַצְּעָדָה, בְּרָאשֵׁי הַבְּכָאִים--אָז, תֵּצֵא בַמִּלְחָמָה: כִּי-יָצָא הָאֱלֹהִים לְפָנֶיךָ, לְהַכּוֹת אֶת-מַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים.
vihi keshome'akha et-kol hatze'ada, berashei habeka'im--az, tetzei vamilchamah: ki-yatsa haElohim lefanekha, lehakot et-machaneh pelishtim.
And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God is gone out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.'
16.
וַיַּעַשׂ דָּוִיד, כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּהוּ הָאֱלֹהִים; וַיַּכּוּ אֶת-מַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים, מִגִּבְעוֹן וְעַד-גָּזְרָה.
vaya'as David, ka'asher tzivahu haElohim; vayaku et-machaneh pelishtim, migiv'on ve'ad-gazrah.
And David did as God commanded him; and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.
17.
וַיֵּצֵא שֵׁם-דָּוִיד, בְּכָל-הָאֲרָצוֹת; וַיהוָה נָתַן אֶת-פַּחְדּוֹ, עַל-כָּל-הַגּוֹיִם.
vayetze shem-david, bekhol-ha'aratzot; vYHWH natan et-pakhdo, al-kol-hagoyim.
And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
