1.
וְאֵלֶּה, הַבָּאִים אֶל-דָּוִיד לְצִיקְלַג, עוֹד עָצוּר, מִפְּנֵי שָׁאוּל בֶּן-קִישׁ; וְהֵמָּה, בַּגִּבּוֹרִים, עֹזְרֵי, הַמִּלְחָמָה.
ve'Eleh, haBa'im el-David leTziklag, od atzur, miPnei Sha'ul ben-Kish; veHemah, baGiborim, ozrei, haMilchamah.
Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he was yet shut up because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.
2.
נֹשְׁקֵי קֶשֶׁת, מַיְמִינִים וּמַשְׂמִאלִים בָּאֲבָנִים, וּבַחִצִּים, בַּקָּשֶׁת--מֵאֲחֵי שָׁאוּל, מִבִּנְיָמִן.
noshkei keshet, mayminim umasmilim ba'avanim, uvachitzim, baKashet--me'achei Sha'ul, miBinyamin.
They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow; they were of Saul's brethren of Benjamin.
3.
הָרֹאשׁ אֲחִיעֶזֶר וְיוֹאָשׁ, בְּנֵי הַשְּׁמָעָה הַגִּבְעָתִי, ויזואל וִיזִיאֵל וָפֶלֶט, בְּנֵי עַזְמָוֶת; וּבְרָכָה, וְיֵהוּא הָעַנְּתֹתִי.
haRosh Achi'ezer veYo'ash, benei haShema'ah haGiv'ati, veVizi'el vaPelet, benei Azmavet; uVerachah, veYehu ha'An'toti.
The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite;
4.
וְיִשְׁמַעְיָה הַגִּבְעוֹנִי גִּבּוֹר בַּשְּׁלֹשִׁים, וְעַל-הַשְּׁלֹשִׁים.
veyishma'yah hagiv'oni gibor bashloshim, ve'al-hashloshim.
and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty;
5.
וְיִרְמְיָה וְיַחֲזִיאֵל וְיוֹחָנָן, וְיוֹזָבָד הַגְּדֵרָתִי.
veyirmeyyah veyachazi'el veyochanan, veyozavad hagederati.
and Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad the Gederathite;
6.
אֶלְעוּזַי וִירִימוֹת וּבְעַלְיָה וּשְׁמַרְיָהוּ, וּשְׁפַטְיָהוּ החריפי הַחֲרוּפִי.
el'uzay virimot uve'alyah ushemaryahu, ushefatyahu hacharufi hacharufi.
Eluzai, and Jerimoth, and Bealiah, and Shemariah, and Shephatiah the Hariphite;
7.
אֶלְקָנָה וְיִשִּׁיָּהוּ וַעֲזַרְאֵל וְיוֹעֶזֶר, וְיָשָׁבְעָם--הַקָּרְחִים.
elkanah veyishiyahu va'azar'el veyo'ezer, veyashav'am--hakarchim.
Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;
8.
וְיוֹעֵאלָה וּזְבַדְיָה בְּנֵי יְרֹחָם, מִן-הַגְּדוֹר.
ve'yo'elah u'zevadyah benei yerokham, min-hagedor.
and Joelah, and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of the troop.
9.
וּמִן-הַגָּדִי נִבְדְּלוּ אֶל-דָּוִיד לַמְצַד מִדְבָּרָה גִּבֹּרֵי הַחַיִל, אַנְשֵׁי צָבָא לַמִּלְחָמָה--עֹרְכֵי צִנָּה, וָרֹמַח; וּפְנֵי אַרְיֵה פְּנֵיהֶם, וְכִצְבָאיִם עַל-הֶהָרִים לְמַהֵר.
u'min-hagadi nivdelu el-david lamtzead midbara giborei hachayil, anshei tzava lamilchama--orechei tzinah, varomach; u'penei aryeh peneichem, vechitzvaim al-heharim lemahert.
And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valour, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;
10.
עֵזֶר, הָרֹאשׁ; עֹבַדְיָה, הַשֵּׁנִי, אֱלִיאָב, הַשְּׁלִשִׁי.
ezer, harosh; ovadyah, hasheni, eliav, hashelishi.
Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third;
11.
מִשְׁמַנָּה, הָרְבִיעִי, יִרְמְיָה, הַחֲמִשִׁי.
mishmannah, harevii, yirmeyah, hachamishi.
Mashmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth;
12.
עַתַּי, הַשִּׁשִּׁי, אֱלִיאֵל, הַשְּׁבִעִי.
'Attay, hashishiy, Eliyel, hashve'iy.
Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh;
13.
יוֹחָנָן, הַשְּׁמִינִי, אֶלְזָבָד, הַתְּשִׁיעִי.
Yochanan, hashminiy, Elzavad, hatshi'iy.
Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth;
14.
יִרְמְיָהוּ, הָעֲשִׂירִי, מַכְבַּנַּי, עַשְׁתֵּי עָשָׂר.
Yirmeyahu, ha'asiriy, Makhbannay, 'ashtey 'asar.
Jeremiah the tenth, Machbannai the eleventh.
15.
אֵלֶּה מִבְּנֵי-גָד, רָאשֵׁי הַצָּבָא; אֶחָד לְמֵאָה הַקָּטָן, וְהַגָּדוֹל לְאָלֶף.
Eleh mib'ney-Gad, rashey hatzava; echad l'me'ah hakatan, vehagadol l'alef.
These of the sons of Gad were captains of the host; he that was least was equal to a hundred, and the greatest to a thousand.
16.
אֵלֶּה הֵם, אֲשֶׁר עָבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן בַּחֹדֶשׁ הָרִאשׁוֹן, וְהוּא מְמַלֵּא, עַל-כָּל-גדיתיו גְּדוֹתָיו; וַיַּבְרִיחוּ, אֶת-כָּל-הָעֲמָקִים, לַמִּזְרָח, וְלַמַּעֲרָב.
eleh hem, asher avru et-hayarden bakhodesh harishon, vehu memalle, al-kol-gedotav; vayavrikhu, et-kol-ha'amakim, lamizrakh, velama'arav.
These are they that went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.
17.
וַיָּבֹאוּ, מִן-בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן וִיהוּדָה, עַד-לַמְצָד, לְדָוִיד.
vayavo'u, min-bnei vinyamin vihudah, ad-lamtzad, ledavid.
And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold unto David.
18.
וַיֵּצֵא דָוִיד, לִפְנֵיהֶם, וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם, אִם-לְשָׁלוֹם בָּאתֶם אֵלַי לְעָזְרֵנִי יִהְיֶה-לִּי עֲלֵיכֶם לֵבָב לְיָחַד; וְאִם-לְרַמּוֹתַנִי לְצָרַי, בְּלֹא חָמָס בְּכַפַּי, יֵרֶא אֱלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתֵינוּ, וְיוֹכַח.
vayyetzei david, lifneihem, vaya'an vayomer lahem, im-leshalom ba'atem elay le'azreni yihyeh-li aleikhem levav leyakhad; ve'im-leramotani letzaray, belo khamas bekappay, yere elohei avoteinu, veyokakh.
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them: 'If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit unto you; but if ye be come to betray me to mine adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and give judgment.'
19.
וְרוּחַ לָבְשָׁה, אֶת-עֲמָשַׂי רֹאשׁ השלושים הַשָּׁלִישִׁים, לְךָ דָוִיד וְעִמְּךָ בֶן-יִשַׁי, שָׁלוֹם שָׁלוֹם לְךָ וְשָׁלוֹם לְעֹזְרֶךָ כִּי עֲזָרְךָ אֱלֹהֶיךָ; וַיְקַבְּלֵם דָּוִיד, וַיִּתְּנֵם בְּרָאשֵׁי הַגְּדוּד.
veruakh lavshah, et-ama'say rosh hashallishim, lekha david ve'immkha ven-yishay, shalom shalom lekha veshalom le'ozrekha ki azarekha eloheikha; vaykabbellem david, vayyittenem berashei hagedud.
Then the spirit clothed Amasai, who was chief of the captains: Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse; peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thy helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.
20.
וּמִמְּנַשֶּׁה נָפְלוּ עַל-דָּוִיד, בְּבֹאוֹ עִם-פְּלִשְׁתִּים עַל-שָׁאוּל לַמִּלְחָמָה--וְלֹא עֲזָרֻם: כִּי בְעֵצָה, שִׁלְּחֻהוּ סַרְנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים לֵאמֹר, בְּרָאשֵׁינוּ, יִפּוֹל אֶל-אֲדֹנָיו שָׁאוּל.
umimenashe naf'lu al-david, bevo'o im-pelishtim al-sha'ul lamilhamah--velo azarum: ki ve'etsah, shillekhuhu sarnei pelishtim lemor, berashenu, yipol el-adonav sha'ul.
Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle, but they helped them not; for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying: 'He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.'
21.
בְּלֶכְתּוֹ אֶל-צִיקְלַג, נָפְלוּ עָלָיו מִמְּנַשֶּׁה עַדְנַח וְיוֹזָבָד וִידִיעֲאֵל וּמִיכָאֵל וְיוֹזָבָד, וֶאֱלִיהוּא, וְצִלְּתָי: רָאשֵׁי הָאֲלָפִים, אֲשֶׁר לִמְנַשֶּׁה.
belekhto el-tsiklag, naf'lu alav mimenashe adnakh veyozavad viyidi'ael umikha'el veyozavad, ve'elihu, vetsiletay: rashei ha'alaphim, asher limnasheh.
As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands that were of Manasseh.
22.
וְהֵמָּה, עָזְרוּ עִם-דָּוִיד עַל-הַגְּדוּד, כִּי-גִבּוֹרֵי חַיִל, כֻּלָּם; וַיִּהְיוּ שָׂרִים, בַּצָּבָא.
vehemmah, azuru im-david al-hagedud, ki-giborei chayil, kullam; vayihyu sarim, batsava.
And they helped David against the troop, for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.
23.
כִּי לְעֶת-יוֹם בְּיוֹם, יָבֹאוּ עַל-דָּוִיד לְעָזְרוֹ--עַד-לְמַחֲנֶה גָדוֹל, כְּמַחֲנֵה אֱלֹהִים.
ki le'et-yom beyom, yavo'u al-david le'azro--ad-lemakhaneh gadol, kemakhaneh elohim.
For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great host, like the host of God.
24.
וְאֵלֶּה מִסְפְּרֵי רָאשֵׁי הֶחָלוּץ, לַצָּבָא, בָּאוּ עַל-דָּוִיד, חֶבְרוֹנָה: לְהָסֵב מַלְכוּת שָׁאוּל, אֵלָיו--כְּפִי יְהוָה.
ve'eleh misperei rashei hekhalutz, latzeva, ba'u al-david, khevronah: lehasev malkhut sha'ul, elav--kefi YHWH.
And these are the numbers of the heads of them that were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD.
25.
בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה, נֹשְׂאֵי צִנָּה וָרֹמַח--שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁמוֹנֶה מֵאוֹת, חֲלוּצֵי צָבָא.
bnei yehudah, nos'ei tzinah voromakh--sheshet alafim ushmoneh me'ot, khalutzei tzava.
The children of Judah that bore shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war.
26.
מִן-בְּנֵי שִׁמְעוֹן, גִּבּוֹרֵי חַיִל לַצָּבָא--שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים, וּמֵאָה.
min-bnei shim'on, giborei khayil latzeva--shiv'at alafim, ume'ah.
Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for the war, seven thousand and one hundred.
27.
מִן-בְּנֵי, הַלֵּוִי--אַרְבַּעַת אֲלָפִים, וְשֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת.
min-bnei, halevi--arba'at alafim, veshesh me'ot.
Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred.
28.
וִיהוֹיָדָע, הַנָּגִיד לְאַהֲרֹן; וְעִמּוֹ, שְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת.
viyehoyada, hanagid le'aharon; ve'immo, sheloshet alafim ushva me'ot.
And Jehoiada was the leader of the house of Aaron, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred;
29.
וְצָדוֹק נַעַר, גִּבּוֹר חָיִל; וּבֵית-אָבִיו שָׂרִים, עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁנָיִם.
vetsadok naar, gibor khayil; uveit-aviv sarim, esrim ushenayim.
and Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his father's house twenty and two captains.
30.
וּמִן-בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן אֲחֵי שָׁאוּל, שְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים; וְעַד-הֵנָּה, מַרְבִּיתָם, שֹׁמְרִים, מִשְׁמֶרֶת בֵּית שָׁאוּל.
umin-bnei vinyamin akhei sha'ul, sheloshet alafim; ve'ad-henna, marbitam, shomrim, mishmeret beit sha'ul.
And of the children of Benjamin, the brethren of Saul, three thousand; for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.
31.
וּמִן-בְּנֵי אֶפְרַיִם, עֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף וּשְׁמוֹנֶה מֵאוֹת--גִּבּוֹרֵי חַיִל, אַנְשֵׁי שֵׁמוֹת לְבֵית אֲבוֹתָם.
umin-bnei efrayim, esrim elef ushmoneh me'ot--giborei khayil, anshei shemot leveit avotam.
And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous men in their fathers' houses.
32.
וּמֵחֲצִי מַטֵּה מְנַשֶּׁה, שְׁמוֹנָה עָשָׂר אָלֶף, אֲשֶׁר נִקְּבוּ בְּשֵׁמוֹת, לָבוֹא לְהַמְלִיךְ אֶת-דָּוִיד.
u'mehatzi mateh Menasheh, shmonah asar elef, asher niqvu beshemot, lavo lehamlikh et-David.
And of the half-tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king.
33.
וּמִבְּנֵי יִשָּׂשכָר, יוֹדְעֵי בִינָה לַעִתִּים, לָדַעַת, מַה-יַּעֲשֶׂה יִשְׂרָאֵל--רָאשֵׁיהֶם מָאתַיִם, וְכָל-אֲחֵיהֶם עַל-פִּיהֶם.
u'mibnei Yissaskhar, yode'ei vinah la'itim, lada'at, mah-ya'aseh Yisrael--rashehem matayim, vekhal-ahehem al-pihem.
And of the children of Issachar, men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.
34.
מִזְּבֻלוּן יוֹצְאֵי צָבָא, עֹרְכֵי מִלְחָמָה בְּכָל-כְּלֵי מִלְחָמָה--חֲמִשִּׁים אָלֶף: וְלַעֲדֹר, בְּלֹא-לֵב וָלֵב.
miz'vulun yotze'ei tzava, orekhei milhamah bekhal-klei milhamah--hamishim elef: vela'ador, belo-lev valev.
Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, with all manner of instruments of war, fifty thousand; and that could order the battle array, and were not of double heart.
35.
וּמִנַּפְתָּלִי, שָׂרִים אָלֶף; וְעִמָּהֶם בְּצִנָּה וַחֲנִית, שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשִׁבְעָה אָלֶף.
u'minaftali, sarim elef; ve'imtahem betzinah vahanit, shloshim ushiv'ah elef.
And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand.
36.
וּמִן-הַדָּנִי עֹרְכֵי מִלְחָמָה, עֶשְׂרִים-וּשְׁמוֹנָה אֶלֶף וְשֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת.
u'min-hadani orekhei milkhamah, esrim-ushmonah elef veshesh me'ot.
And of the Danites that could set the battle in array, twenty and eight thousand and six hundred.
37.
וּמֵאָשֵׁר, יוֹצְאֵי צָבָא לַעֲרֹךְ מִלְחָמָה--אַרְבָּעִים אָלֶף.
u'me'asher, yotz'ei tzava la'arokh milkhamah--arba'im elef.
And of Asher, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, forty thousand.
38.
וּמֵעֵבֶר לַיַּרְדֵּן מִן-הָראוּבֵנִי וְהַגָּדִי וַחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט מְנַשֶּׁה, בְּכֹל כְּלֵי צְבָא מִלְחָמָה--מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים, אָלֶף.
u'me'ever layarden min-haro'uveni vehagadi vakhatzi shevet menasheh, bekhol kelei tzeva milkhamah--me'ah ve'esrim, elef.
And on the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, a hundred and twenty thousand.
39.
כָּל-אֵלֶּה אַנְשֵׁי מִלְחָמָה, עֹדְרֵי מַעֲרָכָה, בְּלֵבָב שָׁלֵם בָּאוּ חֶבְרוֹנָה, לְהַמְלִיךְ אֶת-דָּוִיד עַל-כָּל-יִשְׂרָאֵל; וְגַם כָּל-שֵׁרִית יִשְׂרָאֵל, לֵב אֶחָד--לְהַמְלִיךְ אֶת-דָּוִיד.
kol-eileh anshei milkhamah, odrei ma'arakhah, belevav shalem ba'u khevronah, lehamlikh et-david al-kol-yisrael; vegam kol-sherit yisrael, lev ekhat--lehamlikh et-david.
All these, being men of war, that could order the battle array, came with a whole heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.
40.
וַיִּהְיוּ-שָׁם עִם-דָּוִיד יָמִים שְׁלוֹשָׁה, אֹכְלִים וְשׁוֹתִים: כִּי-הֵכִינוּ לָהֶם, אֲחֵיהֶם.
vayhiyu-sham im-david yamim sheloshah, okhalim veshotim: ki-hekhinu lahem, acheihem.
And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brethren had made preparation for them.
41.
וְגַם הַקְּרוֹבִים-אֲלֵיהֶם עַד-יִשָּׂשכָר וּזְבֻלוּן וְנַפְתָּלִי, מְבִיאִים לֶחֶם בַּחֲמוֹרִים וּבַגְּמַלִּים וּבַפְּרָדִים וּבַבָּקָר מַאֲכָל קֶמַח דְּבֵלִים וְצִמּוּקִים וְיַיִן-וְשֶׁמֶן וּבָקָר וְצֹאן--לָרֹב: כִּי שִׂמְחָה, בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל.
vegam hakrovim-alehem ad-yissakhar uzevulun venaftali, mevi'im lehem bakhamorim uvagemalim uvafredim uvabakar ma'akhal kemah develim vetsimuqim veyayin-veshemen uvakar vetson--larov: ki simkhah, beyisrael.
Moreover they that were nigh unto them, even as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, victual of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance; for there was joy in Israel.
