1.בְּנִי, שְׁמֹר אֲמָרָי; וּמִצְוֺתַי, תִּצְפֹּן אִתָּךְ.beni, shemor amaray; u'mitzvotay, titzpon itakh.My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2.שְׁמֹר מִצְוֺתַי וֶחְיֵה; וְתוֹרָתִי, כְּאִישׁוֹן עֵינֶיךָ.shemor mitzvotay vekhiyeh; vetorati, ke'ishon eineykha.Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of thine eye.
3.קָשְׁרֵם עַל-אֶצְבְּעֹתֶיךָ; כָּתְבֵם, עַל-לוּחַ לִבֶּךָ.kasherem al-etzbe'otekha; katvem, al-luach libeka.Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thy heart.
4.אֱמֹר לַחָכְמָה, אֲחֹתִי אָתְּ; וּמֹדָע, לַבִּינָה תִקְרָא.emor lachakhmah, achoti at; umoda, labinah tikra.Say unto wisdom: 'Thou art my sister', and call understanding thy kinswoman;
5.לִשְׁמָרְךָ, מֵאִשָּׁה זָרָה; מִנָּכְרִיָּה, אֲמָרֶיהָ הֶחֱלִיקָה.lishmarkeha, me'ishah zarah; minakriyah, amareha hechelikah.That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the alien woman that maketh smooth her words.
6.כִּי, בְּחַלּוֹן בֵּיתִי-- בְּעַד אֶשְׁנַבִּי נִשְׁקָפְתִּי.ki behallon beti be'ad eshnabi nishkafti.For at the window of my house I looked forth through my lattice;
7.וָאֵרֶא בַפְּתָאיִם, אָבִינָה בַבָּנִים-- נַעַר חֲסַר-לֵב.va'ere vaf'otayim avina vabbanim na'ar khasar lev.And I beheld among the thoughtless ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8.עֹבֵר בַּשּׁוּק, אֵצֶל פִּנָּהּ; וְדֶרֶךְ בֵּיתָהּ יִצְעָד.over basshuk etsel pinnah vederek betah yitza'ad.Passing through the street near her corner, and he went the way to her house;
9.בְּנֶשֶׁף-בְּעֶרֶב יוֹם; בְּאִישׁוֹן לַיְלָה, וַאֲפֵלָה.beneshef be'erev yom be'ishon layla va'afelah.In the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the blackness of night and the darkness.
10.וְהִנֵּה אִשָּׁה, לִקְרָאתוֹ; שִׁית זוֹנָה, וּנְצֻרַת לֵב.ve'hinneh ishah likrato, shit zonah, u'netzurat lev.And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and wily of heart.
11.הֹמִיָּה הִיא וְסֹרָרֶת; בְּבֵיתָהּ, לֹא-יִשְׁכְּנוּ רַגְלֶיהָ.homiyah hi ve'soraret, be'beitah, lo-yishkenu ragleyha.She is riotous and rebellious, her feet abide not in her house;
12.פַּעַם, בַּחוּץ--פַּעַם בָּרְחֹבוֹת; וְאֵצֶל כָּל-פִּנָּה תֶאֱרֹב.pa'am ba'chutz--pa'am ba'rechovot, ve'etzel kol-pinnah te'erov.Now she is in the streets, now in the broad places, and lieth in wait at every corner.
13.וְהֶחֱזִיקָה בּוֹ, וְנָשְׁקָה לּוֹ; הֵעֵזָה פָנֶיהָ, וַתֹּאמַר לוֹ.ve'hechezikah bo, ve'nashakah lo; he'ezah paneha, vato'mar lo.So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face she said unto him:
14.זִבְחֵי שְׁלָמִים עָלָי; הַיּוֹם, שִׁלַּמְתִּי נְדָרָי.zivkhei shelamim alai; hayom, shillamti nedarai.'Sacrifices of peace-offerings were due from me; this day have I paid my vows.
15.עַל-כֵּן, יָצָאתִי לִקְרָאתֶךָ; לְשַׁחֵר פָּנֶיךָ, וָאֶמְצָאֶךָּ.al-ken, yatzati likratekha; leshakher panekha, va'emtza'ekha.Therefore came I forth to meet thee, to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16.מַרְבַדִּים, רָבַדְתִּי עַרְשִׂי; חֲטֻבוֹת, אֵטוּן מִצְרָיִם.marvadim, ravadti arsi; khatuvot, etun mitzrayim.I have decked my couch with coverlets, with striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt.
17.נַפְתִּי מִשְׁכָּבִי-- מֹר אֲהָלִים, וְקִנָּמוֹן.nafti mishkavi-- mor ahalim, veqinnamon.I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18.לְכָה נִרְוֶה דֹדִים, עַד-הַבֹּקֶר; נִתְעַלְּסָה, בָּאֳהָבִים.Lekhah nirveh dodim, ad-haboker; nit'alasah, ba'ohavim.Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves.
19.כִּי אֵין הָאִישׁ בְּבֵיתוֹ; הָלַךְ, בְּדֶרֶךְ מֵרָחוֹק.Ki ein ha'ish beveito; halakh, bederekh merakhok.For my husband is not at home, he is gone a long journey;
20.צְרוֹר-הַכֶּסֶף, לָקַח בְּיָדוֹ; לְיוֹם הַכֵּסֶא, יָבֹא בֵיתוֹ.Tzeror-hakesef, lakakh beyado; leyom hakese, yavo beito.He hath taken the bag of money with him; he will come home at the full moon.'
21.הִטַּתּוּ, בְּרֹב לִקְחָהּ; בְּחֵלֶק שְׂפָתֶיהָ, תַּדִּיחֶנּוּ.Hitattuhu, berov likkhah; behelek sefateyha, taddichennu.With her much fair speech she causeth him to yield, with the blandishment of her lips she enticeth him away.
22.הוֹלֵךְ אַחֲרֶיהָ, פִּתְאֹם: כְּשׁוֹר, אֶל-טֶבַח יָבֹא; וּכְעֶכֶס, אֶל-מוּסַר אֱוִיל.holekh achareha, pit'om: kheshor, el-tevach yavo; ukhe'ekhex, el-musar evil.He goeth after her straightway, as an ox that goeth to the slaughter, or as one in fetters to the correction of the fool;
23.עַד יְפַלַּח חֵץ, כְּבֵדוֹ-- כְּמַהֵר צִפּוֹר אֶל-פָּח;וְלֹא-יָדַע, כִּי-בְנַפְשׁוֹ הוּא.ad yefalach chetx, kevedo-- kemaher tzipor el-pach; velo-yada, ki-venafsho hu.Till an arrow strike through his liver; as a bird hasteneth to the snare-- and knoweth not that it is at the cost of his life.
24.וְעַתָּה בָנִים, שִׁמְעוּ-לִי; וְהַקְשִׁיבוּ, לְאִמְרֵי-פִי.ve'atta vanim, shim'u-li; vehakshivu, le'amrei-fi.Now therefore, O ye children, hearken unto me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25.אַל-יֵשְׂטְ אֶל-דְּרָכֶיהָ לִבֶּךָ; אַל-תֵּתַע, בִּנְתִיבוֹתֶיהָ.al-yesst el-derakheha libbekha; al-teta, bintivoteyha.Let not thy heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26.כִּי-רַבִּים חֲלָלִים הִפִּילָה; וַעֲצֻמִים, כָּל-הֲרֻגֶיהָ.ki-rabim khalalim hipilah; va'atzumim, kol-harugeha.For she hath cast down many wounded; yea, a mighty host are all her slain.
27.דַּרְכֵי שְׁאוֹל בֵּיתָהּ; יֹרְדוֹת, אֶל-חַדְרֵי-מָוֶת.darkei she'ol beitah; yordot, el-hadrei-mavet.Her house is the way to the nether-world, going down to the chambers of death.
