וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר.
vaydaber YHWH, el-Mosheh lemor.
And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
2.
אֱמֹר אֶל-אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן-אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן, וְיָרֵם אֶת-הַמַּחְתֹּת מִבֵּין הַשְּׂרֵפָה, וְאֶת-הָאֵשׁ, זְרֵה-הָלְאָה: כִּי, קָדֵשׁוּ.
emor el-El'azar ben-Aharon hakohen, veyarem et-hamachtot mibein hasrefah, ve'et-ha'esh, zereh-hal'ah: ki, kadeshu.
'Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the fire-pans out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are become holy;

אֵת מַחְתּוֹת הַחַטָּאִים הָאֵלֶּה בְּנַפְשֹׁתָם, וְעָשׂוּ אֹתָם רִקֻּעֵי פַחִים צִפּוּי לַמִּזְבֵּחַ--כִּי-הִקְרִיבֻם לִפְנֵי-יְהוָה, וַיִּקְדָּשׁוּ; וְיִהְיוּ לְאוֹת, לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.
et makhtot hakhataim ha'eleh benafshotam, ve'asu otam rikuei fakhim tzipuy lamizbeakh--ki-hikrivum lifnei-YHWH, vayikdashu; vihyu le'ot, livnei Yisrael.
even the fire-pans of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives, and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar--for they are become holy, because they were offered before the LORD--that they may be a sign unto the children of Israel.'

וַיִּקַּח אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן, אֵת מַחְתּוֹת הַנְּחֹשֶׁת, אֲשֶׁר הִקְרִיבוּ, הַשְּׂרֻפִים; וַיְרַקְּעוּם, צִפּוּי לַמִּזְבֵּחַ.
vayikakh El'azar hakohen, et makhtot hanechoshet, asher hikrivu, hasrufim; vayרקעum [vayrak'um], tzipuy lamizbeakh.
And Eleazar the priest took the brazen fire-pans, which they that were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar,

זִכָּרוֹן לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יִקְרַב אִישׁ זָר אֲשֶׁר לֹא מִזֶּרַע אַהֲרֹן הוּא, לְהַקְטִיר קְטֹרֶת, לִפְנֵי יְהוָה; וְלֹא-יִהְיֶה כְקֹרַח וְכַעֲדָתוֹ, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה בְּיַד-מֹשֶׁה לוֹ.
zikkaron livnei Yisrael, lema'an asher lo-yikrav ish zar asher lo mizerac Aharon hu, lehaktir ketoret, lifnei YHWH; velo-yihyeh kekhorakh vakha'adato, ka'asher diber YHWH beyad-Moshe lo.
to be a memorial unto the children of Israel, to the end that no common man, that is not of the seed of Aaron, draw near to burn incense before the LORD; that he fare not as Korah, and as his company; as the LORD spoke unto him by the hand of Moses.
6.
וַיִּלֹּנוּ כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, מִמָּחֳרָת, עַל-מֹשֶׁה וְעַל-אַהֲרֹן, לֵאמֹר: אַתֶּם הֲמִתֶּם, אֶת-עַם יְהוָה.
vayilonu kol-adat bene-Yisrael, mimokhororat, al-Mosheh ve'al-Aharon, lemor: atem hemitem, et-am YHWH.
But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying: 'Ye have killed the people of the LORD.'
7.
וַיְהִי, בְּהִקָּהֵל הָעֵדָה עַל-מֹשֶׁה וְעַל-אַהֲרֹן, וַיִּפְנוּ אֶל-אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד, וְהִנֵּה כִסָּהוּ הֶעָנָן; וַיֵּרָא, כְּבוֹד יְהוָה.
vayhi, behikahel ha'edah al-Mosheh ve'al-Aharon, vayifnu el-ohel mo'ed, vehinneh kisahu he'anan; vayera, kevod YHWH.
And it came to pass, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tent of meeting; and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
8.
וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן, אֶל-פְּנֵי אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד.
vayavo Mosheh ve'Aharon, el-penei ohel mo'ed.
And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting.
9.
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר.
Vaydaber YHWH, el-Mosheh lemor.
And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
10.
הֵרֹמּוּ, מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת, וַאֲכַלֶּה אֹתָם, כְּרָגַע; וַיִּפְּלוּ, עַל-פְּנֵיהֶם.
Herommu, mitokh ha'edah hazzot, va'akalleh otam, keraga; vayippelu, al-peneihem.
'Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.' And they fell upon their faces.
11.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-אַהֲרֹן, קַח אֶת-הַמַּחְתָּה וְתֶן-עָלֶיהָ אֵשׁ מֵעַל הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְשִׂים קְטֹרֶת, וְהוֹלֵךְ מְהֵרָה אֶל-הָעֵדָה, וְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיהֶם: כִּי-יָצָא הַקֶּצֶף מִלִּפְנֵי יְהוָה, הֵחֵל הַנָּגֶף.
Vayomer Moshe el-Aharon, kakh et-hamakhtah veten-aleha esh me'al hamizbeakh vesim ketoret, veholekh meherah el-ha'edah, vekapper alehem: ki-yatsa haketsef millifnei YHWH, hekhel hangef.
And Moses said unto Aaron: 'Take thy fire-pan, and put fire therein from off the altar, and lay incense thereon, and carry it quickly unto the congregation, and make atonement for them; for there is wrath gone out from the LORD: the plague is begun.'
12.
וַיִּקַּח אַהֲרֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר מֹשֶׁה, וַיָּרָץ אֶל-תּוֹךְ הַקָּהָל, וְהִנֵּה הֵחֵל הַנֶּגֶף, בָּעָם; וַיִּתֵּן, אֶת-הַקְּטֹרֶת, וַיְכַפֵּר, עַל-הָעָם.
vayikakh Aharon ka'asher diber Moshe, vayaratz el-tokh hakahal, vehineh hehel hanegef, ba'am; vayiten, et-haktoret, vaykhaper, al-ha'am.
And Aaron took as Moses spoke, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people; and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people.
13.
וַיַּעֲמֹד בֵּין-הַמֵּתִים, וּבֵין הַחַיִּים; וַתֵּעָצַר, הַמַּגֵּפָה.
vaya'amod bein-hametim, uvein hakhayim; vate'atzar, hamagefah.
And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
14.
וַיִּהְיוּ, הַמֵּתִים בַּמַּגֵּפָה, אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר אֶלֶף, וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת--מִלְּבַד הַמֵּתִים, עַל-דְּבַר-קֹרַח.
vayihyu, hametim bamagefah, arba'ah asar elef, ushva' me'ot--milvad hametim, al-devar-korakh.
Now they that died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides them that died about the matter of Korah.
15.
וַיָּשָׁב אַהֲרֹן אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, אֶל-פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד; וְהַמַּגֵּפָה, נֶעֱצָרָה.
vayashav Aharon el-Mosheh, el-petach ohel mo'ed; vehamagefah, ne'atzarah.
And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tent of meeting, and the plague was stayed.
16.
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר.
vaydaber YHWH, el-Mosheh lemor.
And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
17.
דַּבֵּר אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְקַח מֵאִתָּם מַטֶּה מַטֶּה לְבֵית אָב מֵאֵת כָּל-נְשִׂיאֵהֶם לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם--שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר, מַטּוֹת: אִישׁ אֶת-שְׁמוֹ, תִּכְתֹּב עַל-מַטֵּהוּ.
daber el-bnei Yisrael, vekach me'ittam mateh mateh leveit av me'et kol-nesi'ehem leveit avotam--shneim asar, matot: ish et-shemo, tikhtov al-matehu.
'Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each fathers' house, of all their princes according to their fathers' houses, twelve rods; thou shalt write every man's name upon his rod.
18.
וְאֵת שֵׁם אַהֲרֹן, תִּכְתֹּב עַל-מַטֵּה לֵוִי: כִּי מַטֶּה אֶחָד, לְרֹאשׁ בֵּית אֲבוֹתָם.
ve'et shem Aharon tikhtov al-matֵh levi ki matteh echad lirosh beit avotam
And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi, for there shall be one rod for the head of their fathers' houses.
19.
וְהִנַּחְתָּם, בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד--לִפְנֵי, הָעֵדוּת, אֲשֶׁר אִוָּעֵד לָכֶם, שָׁמָּה.
vehinnakhtam be'ohel mo'ed lifnei ha'edut asher ivva'ed lakhem shammah
And thou shalt lay them up in the tent of meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you.
20.
וְהָיָה, הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר אֶבְחַר-בּוֹ--מַטֵּהוּ יִפְרָח; וַהֲשִׁכֹּתִי מֵעָלַי, אֶת-תְּלֻנּוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֲשֶׁר הֵם מַלִּינִם, עֲלֵיכֶם.
vehayah ha'ish asher evchar-bo mattehu yifrach vahashikkoti me'alay et-telunnot benei yisrael asher hem mallinim aleikhem
And it shall come to pass, that the man whom I shall choose, his rod shall bud; and I will make to cease from Me the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you.'
21.
וַיְדַבֵּר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַיִּתְּנוּ אֵלָיו כָּל-נְשִׂיאֵיהֶם מַטֶּה לְנָשִׂיא אֶחָד מַטֶּה לְנָשִׂיא אֶחָד לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם--שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר, מַטּוֹת; וּמַטֵּה אַהֲרֹן, בְּתוֹךְ מַטּוֹתָם.
vaydaber Moshe el-bney Yisrael vaytnum elav kol-nesi'ehem mate lenasi echad mate lenasi echad lebeyt avotam shenem asar matot umate Aharon betoch matotam
And Moses spoke unto the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses, even twelve rods; and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.
22.
וַיַּנַּח מֹשֶׁה אֶת-הַמַּטֹּת, לִפְנֵי יְהוָה, בְּאֹהֶל, הָעֵדֻת.
vayanach Moshe et-hamatot lifnei YHWH be'ohel ha'edut
And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tent of the testimony.
23.
וַיְהִי מִמָּחֳרָת, וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה אֶל-אֹהֶל הָעֵדוּת, וְהִנֵּה פָּרַח מַטֵּה-אַהֲרֹן, לְבֵית לֵוִי; וַיֹּצֵא פֶרַח וַיָּצֵץ צִיץ, וַיִּגְמֹל שְׁקֵדִים.
vayhi mimachorat vayavo Moshe el-ohel ha'edut vehine parach mate-Aharon lebeyt levi vayotze ferach vayatetz tzitz vaygmol shkedim
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.
24.
וַיֹּצֵא מֹשֶׁה אֶת-כָּל-הַמַּטֹּת מִלִּפְנֵי יְהוָה, אֶל-כָּל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיִּרְאוּ וַיִּקְחוּ, אִישׁ מַטֵּהוּ.
vayotze Moshe et kol hamatot milifnei YHWH, el kol bnei Yisrael; vayir'u vayikhu, ish matehu.
And Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the children of Israel; and they looked, and took every man his rod.
25.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, הָשֵׁב אֶת-מַטֵּה אַהֲרֹן לִפְנֵי הָעֵדוּת, לְמִשְׁמֶרֶת לְאוֹת, לִבְנֵי-מֶרִי; וּתְכַל תְּלוּנֹּתָם מֵעָלַי, וְלֹא יָמֻתוּ.
vayo'mer YHWH el Moshe, hashev et mateh Aharon lifnei ha'edut, lemishmeret le'ot, livnei meri; utekhal telunotam me'alai, velo yamutu.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept there, for a token against the rebellious children; that there may be made an end of their murmurings against Me, that they die not.'
26.
וַיַּעַשׂ, מֹשֶׁה: כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֹתוֹ, כֵּן עָשָׂה.
vaya'as, Moshe: ka'asher tzivah YHWH oto, ken asah.
Thus did Moses; as the LORD commanded him, so did he.
27.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵאמֹר: הֵן גָּוַעְנוּ אָבַדְנוּ, כֻּלָּנוּ אָבָדְנוּ.
vayomeru benei yisrael el-mosheh lemor hen gava'nu avadnu kullanu avadnu.
And the children of Israel spoke unto Moses, saying: 'Behold, we perish, we are undone, we are all undone.
28.
כֹּל הַקָּרֵב הַקָּרֵב אֶל-מִשְׁכַּן יְהוָה, יָמוּת; הַאִם תַּמְנוּ, לִגְוֺעַ.
kol hakarev hakarev el-mishkan YHWH yamut ha'im tamnu ligvo'a.
Every one that cometh near, that cometh near unto the tabernacle of the LORD, is to die; shall we wholly perish?'
