מַשָּׂא דְבַר-יְהוָה, אֶל-יִשְׂרָאֵל, בְּיַד, מַלְאָכִי.
masa devar-YHWH, el-Yisrael, beyad, mal'akhi.
The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.
2.
אָהַבְתִּי אֶתְכֶם אָמַר יְהוָה, וַאֲמַרְתֶּם בַּמָּה אֲהַבְתָּנוּ; הֲלוֹא-אָח עֵשָׂו לְיַעֲקֹב נְאֻם-יְהוָה, וָאֹהַב אֶת-יַעֲקֹב.
ahavti etkhem amar YHWH, va'amartem bamah ahavtanu; helo-akh Esav leYa'akov neum-YHWH, va'ohav et-Ya'akov.
I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say: 'Wherein hast Thou loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD; yet I loved Jacob;

וְאֶת-עֵשָׂו, שָׂנֵאתִי; וָאָשִׂים אֶת-הָרָיו שְׁמָמָה, וְאֶת-נַחֲלָתוֹ לְתַנּוֹת מִדְבָּר.
ve'et-Esav, saneti; va'asim et-harav shemamah, ve'et-nakhalato letannot midbar.
But Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.
4.
כִּי-תֹאמַר אֱדוֹם רֻשַּׁשְׁנוּ, וְנָשׁוּב וְנִבְנֶה חֳרָבוֹת--כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, הֵמָּה יִבְנוּ וַאֲנִי אֶהֱרוֹס; וְקָרְאוּ לָהֶם גְּבוּל רִשְׁעָה, וְהָעָם אֲשֶׁר-זָעַם יְהוָה עַד-עוֹלָם.
ki-to'mar Edom rushashnu, venashuv venivneh khoravot--koh amar YHWH tseva'ot, hemah yivnu va'ani ehe-ros; veka'ru lahem gevul rish'ah, veha'am asher-za'am YHWH ad-olam.
Whereas Edom saith: 'We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places'; thus saith the LORD of hosts: They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called the border of wickedness, and the people whom the LORD execrateth for ever.
5.
וְעֵינֵיכֶם, תִּרְאֶינָה; וְאַתֶּם תֹּאמְרוּ יִגְדַּל יְהוָה, מֵעַל לִגְבוּל יִשְׂרָאֵל.
ve'eineikhem, tir'einah; ve'atem to'meru yigdal YHWH, me'al ligvul Yisrael.
And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say: 'The LORD is great beyond the border of Israel.'
6.
בֵּן יְכַבֵּד אָב, וְעֶבֶד אֲדֹנָיו; וְאִם-אָב אָנִי אַיֵּה כְבוֹדִי וְאִם-אֲדוֹנִים אָנִי אַיֵּה מוֹרָאִי אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, לָכֶם הַכֹּהֲנִים בּוֹזֵי שְׁמִי, וַאֲמַרְתֶּם, בַּמֶּה בָזִינוּ אֶת-שְׁמֶךָ.
ben yekhaved av, ve'eved adonav; ve'im-av ani ayeh khvodi ve'im-adonim ani ayeh morai amar YHWH tseva'ot, lakhem hakohanim bozei shemi, va'amartem, bameh vazinu et-shmeka.
A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master; if then I be a father, where is My honour? and if I be a master, where is My fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise My name. And ye say: 'Wherein have we despised Thy name?'
7.
מַגִּישִׁים עַל-מִזְבְּחִי לֶחֶם מְגֹאָל, וַאֲמַרְתֶּם בַּמֶּה גֵאַלְנוּךָ; בֶּאֱמָרְכֶם, שֻׁלְחַן יְהוָה נִבְזֶה הוּא.
maggishim al-mizbekhi lekhem mego'al, va'amartem bameh ge'alnukha; be'emarekhem, shulkhan YHWH nivzeh hu.
Ye offer polluted bread upon Mine altar. And ye say: 'Wherein have we polluted thee?' In that ye say: 'The table of the LORD is contemptible.'
8.
וְכִי-תַגִּישׁוּן עִוֵּר לִזְבֹּחַ אֵין רָע, וְכִי תַגִּישׁוּ פִּסֵּחַ וְחֹלֶה אֵין רָע; הַקְרִיבֵהוּ נָא לְפֶחָתֶךָ, הֲיִרְצְךָ אוֹ הֲיִשָּׂא פָנֶיךָ--אָמַר, יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת.
ve'chi-taggishun iver lizbo'ach ein ra, ve'chi taggishu pise'ach ve'choleh ein ra; hakrivehu na lefechafecha, hayirtzecha o hayisa faneicha--amar, YHWH tzva'ot.
And when ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it no evil! And when ye offer the lame and sick, is it no evil! Present it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee? or will he accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
9.
וְעַתָּה חַלּוּ-נָא פְנֵי-אֵל, וִיחָנֵּנוּ; מִיֶּדְכֶם, הָיְתָה זֹּאת--הֲיִשָּׂא מִכֶּם פָּנִים, אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת.
ve'atah chalu-na fenei-el, vichanenu; miyedchem, hayetah zot--hayisa michem panim, amar YHWH tzva'ot.
And now, I pray you, entreat the favour of God that He may be gracious unto us!--this hath been of your doing.--will He accept any of your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
10.
מִי גַם-בָּכֶם וְיִסְגֹּר דְּלָתַיִם, וְלֹא-תָאִירוּ מִזְבְּחִי חִנָּם; אֵין-לִי חֵפֶץ בָּכֶם, אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, וּמִנְחָה, לֹא-אֶרְצֶה מִיֶּדְכֶם.
mi gam-bachem ve'yisgor delatayim, velo-ta'iru mizbechi chinnam; ein-li chefetz bachem, amar YHWH tzva'ot, uminchah, lo-ertze miyedchem.
Oh that there were even one among you that would shut the doors, that ye might not kindle fire on Mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
11.
כִּי מִמִּזְרַח-שֶׁמֶשׁ וְעַד-מְבוֹאוֹ, גָּדוֹל שְׁמִי בַּגּוֹיִם, וּבְכָל-מָקוֹם מֻקְטָר מֻגָּשׁ לִשְׁמִי, וּמִנְחָה טְהוֹרָה: כִּי-גָדוֹל שְׁמִי בַּגּוֹיִם, אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת.
ki mimmizrach-shemesh ve'ad-mevo'o, gadol shemi baggoyim, uvechol-makom muktar mugash lishmi, uminchah tehorah: ki-gadol shemi baggoyim, amar YHWH tzva'ot.
For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same My name is great among the nations; and in every place offerings are presented unto My name, even pure oblations; for My name is great among the nations, saith the LORD of hosts.
12.
וְאַתֶּם, מְחַלְּלִים אוֹתוֹ--בֶּאֱמָרְכֶם, שֻׁלְחַן אֲדֹנָי מְגֹאָל הוּא, וְנִיבוֹ, נִבְזֶה אָכְלוֹ.
Ve'attem mekhalelim oto be'emorchem shulkhan adonai megol hu venivo nivzeh okhlo.
But ye profane it, in that ye say: 'The table of the LORD is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even the food thereof, is contemptible.'
13.
וַאֲמַרְתֶּם הִנֵּה מַתְּלָאָה וְהִפַּחְתֶּם אוֹתוֹ, אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, וַהֲבֵאתֶם גָּזוּל וְאֶת-הַפִּסֵּחַ וְאֶת-הַחוֹלֶה, וַהֲבֵאתֶם אֶת-הַמִּנְחָה; הַאֶרְצֶה אוֹתָהּ מִיֶּדְכֶם, אָמַר יְהוָה.
Va'amartem hinneh matle'ah vehiphakhtem oto amar YHWH tseva'ot va'havetem gazul ve'et-hapise'ach ve'et-hakholeh va'havetem et-hamincha ha'ertseh otah miyedkhem amar YHWH.
Ye say also: 'Behold, what a weariness is it!' and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering; should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
14.
וְאָרוּר נוֹכֵל, וְיֵשׁ בְּעֶדְרוֹ זָכָר, וְנֹדֵר וְזֹבֵחַ מָשְׁחָת, לַאדֹנָי: כִּי מֶלֶךְ גָּדוֹל אָנִי, אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, וּשְׁמִי, נוֹרָא בַגּוֹיִם.
Ve'arur nokhel veyesh be'edro zakhar vonoder vezovech mashchat la'adonai ki melekh gadol ani amar YHWH tseva'ot ushmi nora vagoyim.
But cursed be he that dealeth craftily, whereas he hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and My name is feared among the nations.
