1.וַיַּעַן יְהוָה אֶת-אִיּוֹב; וַיֹּאמַר.vaya'an YHWH et-iyov; vayomer.Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said:
2.הֲרֹב, עִם-שַׁדַּי יִסּוֹר; מוֹכִיחַ אֱלוֹהַּ יַעֲנֶנָּה.harov, im-shadday yissor; mokhiakh eloah ya'anenah.Shall he that reproveth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.
3.וַיַּעַן אִיּוֹב אֶת-יְהוָה; וַיֹּאמַר.Vaya'an Iyov et-YHWH; vayomar.Then Job answered the LORD, and said:
4.הֵן קַלֹּתִי, מָה אֲשִׁיבֶךָּ; יָדִי, שַׂמְתִּי לְמוֹ-פִי.Hen kaloti, mah ashiveka; yadi, samti lemo-fi.Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer Thee? I lay my hand upon my mouth.
5.אַחַת דִּבַּרְתִּי, וְלֹא אֶעֱנֶה; וּשְׁתַּיִם, וְלֹא אוֹסִיף.Achat dibarti, velo e'eneh; ushtayim, velo osif.Once have I spoken, but I will not answer again; yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.
6.וַיַּעַן-יְהוָה אֶת-אִיּוֹב, מנסערה מִן סְעָרָה; וַיֹּאמַר.Vaya'an-YHWH et-Iyov, min se'arah; vayomar.Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
7.אֱזָר-נָא כְגֶבֶר חֲלָצֶיךָ; אֶשְׁאָלְךָ, וְהוֹדִיעֵנִי.ezar-na khegever khalatsykha; esh'alekha, vehodi'eni.Gird up thy loins now like a man; I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto Me.
8.הַאַף, תָּפֵר מִשְׁפָּטִי; תַּרְשִׁיעֵנִי, לְמַעַן תִּצְדָּק.ha'af, tafer mishpati; tarshi'eni, lema'an tzidak.Wilt thou even make void My judgment? Wilt thou condemn Me, that thou mayest be justified?
9.וְאִם-זְרוֹעַ כָּאֵל לָךְ; וּבְקוֹל, כָּמֹהוּ תַרְעֵם.ve'im-zero'a ka'el lakh; uvkol, kamohu tar'em.Or hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like Him?
10.עֲדֵה נָא גָאוֹן וָגֹבַהּ; וְהוֹד וְהָדָר תִּלְבָּשׁ.ad'eh na ga'on vagovah; vehod vehadar tilbash.Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency, and array thyself with glory and beauty.
11.הָפֵץ, עֶבְרוֹת אַפֶּךָ; וּרְאֵה כָל-גֵּאֶה, וְהַשְׁפִּילֵהוּ.hafez, evrot appecha; ure'e chol-ge'e, vehashpilehu.Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.
12.רְאֵה כָל-גֵּאֶה, הַכְנִיעֵהוּ; וַהֲדֹךְ רְשָׁעִים תַּחְתָּם.re'e chol-ge'e, hachni'ehu; vahadoch resha'im tachtam.Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13.טָמְנֵם בֶּעָפָר יָחַד; פְּנֵיהֶם, חֲבֹשׁ בַּטָּמוּן.tamnem be'afar yachad; penehem, chavosh battamun.Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in the hidden place.
14.וְגַם-אֲנִי אוֹדֶךָּ: כִּי-תוֹשִׁעַ לְךָ יְמִינֶךָ.vegam-ani odeka: ki-toshia lecha yeminecha.Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
15.הִנֵּה-נָא בְהֵמוֹת, אֲשֶׁר-עָשִׂיתִי עִמָּךְ; חָצִיר, כַּבָּקָר יֹאכֵל.hineh-na behemot, asher-asiti immakh; khatzir, kabakar yokhel.Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16.הִנֵּה-נָא כֹחוֹ בְמָתְנָיו; וְאוֹנוֹ, בִּשְׁרִירֵי בִטְנוֹ.hineh-na khokho vematnav; ve'ono, bishrire vitno.Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the stays of his body.
17.יַחְפֹּץ זְנָבוֹ כְמוֹ-אָרֶז; גִּידֵי פַחֲדָו יְשֹׂרָגוּ.yakhpotz zenavo khemo-arez; gide fakhadav yesoragu.He straineth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together.
18.עֲצָמָיו, אֲפִיקֵי נְחֻשָׁה; גְּרָמָיו, כִּמְטִיל בַּרְזֶל.atzamav, afike nekhushah; geramav, kimtil barzel.His bones are as pipes of brass; his gristles are like bars of iron.
19.הוּא, רֵאשִׁית דַּרְכֵי-אֵל; הָעֹשׂוֹ, יַגֵּשׁ חַרְבּוֹ.hu reshit darkhei-el ha'oso yagesh kharboHe is the beginning of the ways of God; He only that made him can make His sword to approach unto him.
20.כִּי-בוּל, הָרִים יִשְׂאוּ-לוֹ; וְכָל-חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה, יְשַׂחֲקוּ-שָׁם.ki-vul harim yis'u-lo vekhol-khayat hasadeh yeshakhu-shamSurely the mountains bring him forth food, and all the beasts of the field play there.
21.תַּחַת-צֶאֱלִים יִשְׁכָּב-- בְּסֵתֶר קָנֶה וּבִצָּה.takhat-tzelim yishkav beseter kaneh uvitzaHe lieth under the lotus-trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22.יְסֻכֻּהוּ צֶאֱלִים צִלְלוֹ; יְסֻבּוּהוּ, עַרְבֵי-נָחַל.yesukuhu tzelim tzil-lo yesubuhu arvei-nakhalThe lotus-trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23.הֵן יַעֲשֹׁק נָהָר, לֹא יַחְפּוֹז; יִבְטַח, כִּי-יָגִיחַ יַרְדֵּן אֶל-פִּיהוּ.hen ya'ashok nahar, lo yakhpoz; yivtakh, ki-yagi'ah yarden el-pihu.Behold, if a river overflow, he trembleth not; he is confident, though the Jordan rush forth to his mouth.
24.בְּעֵינָיו יִקָּחֶנּוּ; בְּמוֹקְשִׁים, יִנְקָב-אָף.be'einayiv yikachennu; bemokshim, yinkav-af.Shall any take him by his eyes, or pierce through his nose with a snare?
25.תִּמְשֹׁךְ לִוְיָתָן בְּחַכָּה; וּבְחֶבֶל, תַּשְׁקִיעַ לְשֹׁנוֹ.timshok livyatan bekchakah; uvechevel, tashki'ah leshono.Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fish-hook? or press down his tongue with a cord?
26.הֲתָשִׂים אַגְמֹן בְּאַפּוֹ; וּבְחוֹחַ, תִּקֹּב לֶחֱיוֹ.hatasim agmon be'apo; uvekhoakh, tikov lekheyo.Canst thou put a ring into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a hook?
27.הֲיַרְבֶּה אֵלֶיךָ, תַּחֲנוּנִים; אִם-יְדַבֵּר אֵלֶיךָ רַכּוֹת.Hayerbeh elekha takhanunim im-yedaber elekha rakot.Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak soft words unto thee?
28.הֲיִכְרֹת בְּרִית עִמָּךְ; תִּקָּחֶנּוּ, לְעֶבֶד עוֹלָם.Hayikhrot berrit immakh tiqqakhennu le'eved olam.Will he make a covenant with thee, that thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?
29.הַתְשַׂחֶק-בּוֹ, כַּצִּפּוֹר; וְתִקְשְׁרֶנּוּ, לְנַעֲרוֹתֶיךָ.Hats-sakhek-bo katzippor vetiksherennu lena'arotekha.Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
30.יִכְרוּ עָלָיו, חַבָּרִים; יֶחֱצוּהוּ, בֵּין כְּנַעֲנִים.Yikhru alayav khabbarim yekhetsuhu bein kena'anim.Will the bands of fishermen make a banquet of him? Will they part him among the merchants?
31.הַתְמַלֵּא בְשֻׂכּוֹת עוֹרוֹ; וּבְצִלְצַל דָּגִים רֹאשׁוֹ.hatmale vesukot oro; uvetziltzal dagim rosho.Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish-spears?
32.שִׂים-עָלָיו כַּפֶּךָ; זְכֹר מִלְחָמָה, אַל-תּוֹסַף.sim-alay kav-ka; zekhor milchamah, al-tosaf.Lay thy hand upon him; think upon the battle, thou wilt do so no more.
