1.
הֲיָדַעְתָּ--עֵת, לֶדֶת יַעֲלֵי-סָלַע; חֹלֵל אַיָּלוֹת תִּשְׁמֹר.
hayo'data et ledet ya'alei-sala' kholel ayalot tishmor.
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? Or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2.
תִּסְפֹּר יְרָחִים תְּמַלֶּאנָה; וְיָדַעְתָּ, עֵת לִדְתָּנָה.
tispor yerakhim temallanah veyada'ta et lidtanah.
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? Or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3.
תִּכְרַעְנָה, יַלְדֵיהֶן תְּפַלַּחְנָה; חֶבְלֵיהֶם תְּשַׁלַּחְנָה.
tikhra'nah yaldeihen tfallakhnah khevleihem teshalakhnah.
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young, they cast out their fruit.
4.
יַחְלְמוּ בְנֵיהֶם, יִרְבּוּ בַבָּר; יָצְאוּ, וְלֹא-שָׁבוּ לָמוֹ.
yakhlmu veneihem yirbu vabar yatz'u velo-shavu lamo.
Their young ones wax strong, they grow up in the open field; they go forth, and return not again.

מִי-שִׁלַּח פֶּרֶא חָפְשִׁי; וּמֹסְרוֹת עָרוֹד, מִי פִתֵּחַ.
mi shillakh pere khafshi umosrot arod mi pitteakh
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? Or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

אֲשֶׁר-שַׂמְתִּי עֲרָבָה בֵיתוֹ; וּמִשְׁכְּנוֹתָיו מְלֵחָה.
asher samti aravah veto umishkenotav melekhah
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the salt land his dwelling-place.
7.
יִשְׂחַק, לַהֲמוֹן קִרְיָה; תְּשֻׁאוֹת נֹגֵשׂ, לֹא יִשְׁמָע.
yiskhak lahamon kiryah tshuot noges lo yishma
He scorneth the tumult of the city, neither heareth he the shoutings of the driver.
8.
יְתוּר הָרִים מִרְעֵהוּ; וְאַחַר כָּל-יָרוֹק יִדְרוֹשׁ.
yetur harim mir'ehu ve'akhar kol yarok yidrosh
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9.
הֲיֹאבֶה רֵּים עָבְדֶךָ; אִם-יָלִין, עַל-אֲבוּסֶךָ.
hayo'veh rem ‘avdekha im-yalin ‘al-avusekha
Will the wild-ox be willing to serve thee? Or will he abide by thy crib?
10.
הֲתִקְשָׁר-רֵים, בְּתֶלֶם עֲבֹתוֹ; אִם-יְשַׂדֵּד עֲמָקִים אַחֲרֶיךָ.
hatikshar-rem betelem ‘avoto im-yesaded ‘amakim akharaykha
Canst thou bind the wild-ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11.
הֲתִבְטַח-בּוֹ, כִּי-רַב כֹּחוֹ; וְתַעֲזֹב אֵלָיו יְגִיעֶךָ.
hativtakh-bo ki-rav kocho veta‘azov elayiv yegi'ekha
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? Or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12.
הֲתַאֲמִין בּוֹ, כִּי-ישוב יָשִׁיב זַרְעֶךָ; וְגָרְנְךָ יֶאֱסֹף.
hata'amin bo ki-yashiv zar'ekha vegarnekha ye'esof
Wilt thou rely on him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather the corn of thy threshing-floor?
13.
כְּנַף-רְנָנִים נֶעֱלָסָה; אִם-אֶבְרָה, חֲסִידָה וְנֹצָה.
kenaf-renanim ne'elasah; im-evrah, khasidah venotsah.
The wing of the ostrich beateth joyously; but are her pinions and feathers the kindly stork's?
14.
כִּי-תַעֲזֹב לָאָרֶץ בֵּצֶיהָ; וְעַל-עָפָר תְּחַמֵּם.
ki-ta'azov la'aretz betseha; ve'al-afar tekhamem.
For she leaveth her eggs on the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
15.
וַתִּשְׁכַּח, כִּי-רֶגֶל תְּזוּרֶהָ; וְחַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה תְדוּשֶׁהָ.
vattishkhah, ki-regel tezureha; vekhayat hassadeh tedusheha.
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may trample them.
16.
הִקְשִׁיחַ בָּנֶיהָ לְּלֹא-לָהּ; לְרִיק יְגִיעָהּ בְּלִי-פָחַד.
hiqshiak baneha lelo-lah; lerik yegiah beli-pakhad.
She is hardened against her young ones, as if they were not hers; though her labour be in vain, she is without fear;
17.
כִּי-הִשָּׁהּ אֱלוֹהַּ חָכְמָה; וְלֹא-חָלַק לָהּ, בַּבִּינָה.
ki-hishshah eloah khakhmah; ve'lo-khalak lah, ba'binah.
Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath He imparted to her understanding.
18.
כָּעֵת, בַּמָּרוֹם תַּמְרִיא; תִּשְׂחַק לַסּוּס, וּלְרֹכְבוֹ.
ka'et, ba'marom tamri; tishkhak la'sus, u'le'rokhvo.
When the time cometh, she raiseth her wings on high, and scorneth the horse and his rider.
19.
הֲתִתֵּן לַסּוּס גְּבוּרָה; הֲתַלְבִּישׁ צַוָּארוֹ רַעְמָה.
ha'titen la'sus gevurah; ha'talbish tzava'ro ra'mah.
Hast thou given the horse his strength? Hast thou clothed his neck with fierceness?
20.
הֲתַרְעִישֶׁנּוּ, כָּאַרְבֶּה; הוֹד נַחְרוֹ אֵימָה.
ha'tar'ishennu, ka'arbeh; hod nakhro eimah.
Hast thou made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is terrible.
21.
יַחְפְּרוּ בָעֵמֶק, וְיָשִׂישׂ בְּכֹחַ; יֵצֵא, לִקְרַאת-נָשֶׁק.
yakHperu va'emek, ve'yasis bekoakh; yetze, likrat-nashek.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength; he goeth out to meet the clash of arms.
22.
יִשְׂחַק לְפַחַד, וְלֹא יֵחָת; וְלֹא-יָשׁוּב, מִפְּנֵי-חָרֶב.
yishak lefakhad, ve'lo yekhat; ve'lo-yashuv, mipnei-kharev.
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23.
עָלָיו, תִּרְנֶה אַשְׁפָּה; לַהַב חֲנִית וְכִידוֹן.
alav, tirne ashpa; lahav khanit vekhidon.
The quiver rattleth upon him, the glittering spear and the javelin.
24.
בְּרַעַשׁ וְרֹגֶז, יְגַמֶּא-אָרֶץ; וְלֹא-יַאֲמִין, כִּי-קוֹל שׁוֹפָר.
bera'ash ve'rogez, yigame-aretz; ve'lo-ya'amin, ki-kol shofar.
He swalloweth the ground with storm and rage; neither believeth he that it is the voice of the horn.
25.
בְּדֵי שֹׁפָר, יֹאמַר הֶאָח-- וּמֵרָחוֹק, יָרִיחַ מִלְחָמָה;רַעַם שָׂרִים, וּתְרוּעָה.
bedey shofar, yomar he'ach-- umerakhok, yariach milkhamah; ra'am sarim, uteru'ah.
As oft as he heareth the horn he saith: 'Ha, ha!' and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26.
הֲמִבִּינָתְךָ, יַאֲבֶר-נֵץ; יִפְרֹשׂ כְּנָפָו לְתֵימָן.
hamibinatkha, ya'aver-nets; yifros kenafav leteiman.
Doth the hawk soar by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27.
אִם-עַל-פִּיךָ, יַגְבִּיהַּ נָשֶׁר; וְכִי, יָרִים קִנּוֹ.
im-al-piykha, yagbiah nasher; vekhi, yarim kinno.
Doth the vulture mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28.
סֶלַע יִשְׁכֹּן, וְיִתְלֹנָן-- עַל שֶׁן-סֶלַע, וּמְצוּדָה.
sela yishkon, veyitlonan-- al shen-sela, umetsudah.
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the stronghold.
29.
מִשָּׁם חָפַר-אֹכֶל; לְמֵרָחוֹק, עֵינָיו יַבִּיטוּ.
misham khafar-okhel; lemerakhok, einav yabitu.
From thence she spieth out the prey; her eyes behold it afar off.
30.
וְאֶפְרֹחָו יְעַלְעוּ-דָם; וּבַאֲשֶׁר חֲלָלִים, שָׁם הוּא.
ve'efrokhav ye'al'u-dam; uva'asher khalalim, sham hu.
Her young ones also suck up blood; and where the slain are, there is she.
