1.וַיֹּסֶף אִיּוֹב, שְׂאֵת מְשָׁלוֹ; וַיֹּאמַר.vayosef iyov, se'et meshalo; vayo'mar.And Job again took up his parable, and said:
2.מִי-יִתְּנֵנִי כְיַרְחֵי-קֶדֶם; כִּימֵי, אֱלוֹהַּ יִשְׁמְרֵנִי.mi-yiteneni kheyarhei-kedem; kimei, Eloah yishmereni.Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
3.בְּהִלּוֹ נֵרוֹ, עֲלֵי רֹאשִׁי; לְאוֹרוֹ, אֵלֶךְ חֹשֶׁךְ.behillou nero, 'alei roshi; le'ouro, elekh khoshekh.When His lamp shined above my head, and by His light I walked through darkness;
4.כַּאֲשֶׁר הָיִיתִי, בִּימֵי חָרְפִּי; בְּסוֹד אֱלוֹהַּ, עֲלֵי אָהֳלִי.ka'asher hayiti, bimei kharpi; besod Eloah, 'alei oholi.As I was in the days of my youth, when the converse of God was upon my tent;
5.בְּעוֹד שַׁדַּי, עִמָּדִי; סְבִיבוֹתַי נְעָרָי.be'od Shaddai, 'immadi; sevivotay nearay.When the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were about me;
6.בִּרְחֹץ הֲלִיכַי בְּחֵמָה; וְצוּר יָצוּק עִמָּדִי, פַּלְגֵי-שָׁמֶן.birkhots halikhay bekhemah; vetsur yatsuk immadi, palgei-shamen.When my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil!
7.בְּצֵאתִי שַׁעַר עֲלֵי-קָרֶת; בָּרְחוֹב, אָכִין מוֹשָׁבִי.betseti sha'ar alei-karet; barekhov, akhin moshavi.When I went forth to the gate unto the city, when I prepared my seat in the broad place,
8.רָאוּנִי נְעָרִים וְנֶחְבָּאוּ; וִישִׁישִׁים, קָמוּ עָמָדוּ.ra'uni nearim venekhba'u; vishishim, kamu amadu.The young men saw me and hid themselves, and the aged rose up and stood;
9.שָׂרִים, עָצְרוּ בְמִלִּים; וְכַף, יָשִׂימוּ לְפִיהֶם.sarim, atsru bemilim; vekhaf, yasimu lefihhem.The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth;
10.קוֹל-נְגִידִים נֶחְבָּאוּ; וּלְשׁוֹנָם, לְחִכָּם דָּבֵקָה.kol-negidim nekhba'u; uleshonam, lekhikam davekah.The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
11.כִּי אֹזֶן שָׁמְעָה, וַתְּאַשְּׁרֵנִי; וְעַיִן רָאֲתָה, וַתְּעִידֵנִי.ki ozen shama'ah vate'ashereni ve'ayin ra'atah vate'uidenyiFor when the ear heard me, then it blessed me, and when the eye saw me, it gave witness unto me;
12.כִּי-אֲמַלֵּט, עָנִי מְשַׁוֵּעַ; וְיָתוֹם, וְלֹא-עֹזֵר לוֹ.ki-amalet ani meshave'a veyatom velo-ozer loBecause I delivered the poor that cried, the fatherless also, that had none to help him.
13.בִּרְכַּת אֹבֵד, עָלַי תָּבֹא; וְלֵב אַלְמָנָה אַרְנִן.birkat oved alay tavo velev almanah arninThe blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
14.צֶדֶק לָבַשְׁתִּי, וַיִּלְבָּשֵׁנִי; כִּמְעִיל וְצָנִיף, מִשְׁפָּטִי.tzedek lavashti vayilbasheni kimeil vetzanif mishpatiI put on righteousness, and it clothed itself with me; my justice was as a robe and a diadem.
15.עֵינַיִם הָיִיתִי, לַעִוֵּר; וְרַגְלַיִם לַפִּסֵּחַ אָנִי.enayim hayiti, la'iver; veragalayim lapiseach ani.I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
16.אָב אָנֹכִי, לָאֶבְיוֹנִים; וְרִב לֹא-יָדַעְתִּי אֶחְקְרֵהוּ.av anokhi, la'evyonim; veriv lo-yadati echkerehu.I was a father to the needy; and the cause of him that I knew not I searched out.
17.וָאֲשַׁבְּרָה, מְתַלְּעוֹת עַוָּל; וּמִשִּׁנָּיו, אַשְׁלִיךְ טָרֶף.va'ashaverah, metal'ot aval; umishinav, ashlikh taref.And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.
18.וָאֹמַר, עִם-קִנִּי אֶגְוָע; וְכַחוֹל, אַרְבֶּה יָמִים.va'omar, im-kini egva'; vekhachol, arbeh yamim.Then I said: 'I shall die with my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the phoenix;
19.שָׁרְשִׁי פָתוּחַ אֱלֵי-מָיִם; וְטַל, יָלִין בִּקְצִירִי.shorshi fatuach elei-mayim; vetal, yalin biktsiri.My root shall be spread out to the waters, and the dew shall lie all night upon my branch;
20.כְּבוֹדִי, חָדָשׁ עִמָּדִי; וְקַשְׁתִּי, בְּיָדִי תַחֲלִיף.kevodi, chadash immadi; vekashti, beyadi tacharif.My glory shall be fresh in me, and my bow shall be renewed in my hand.'
21.לִי-שָׁמְעוּ וְיִחֵלּוּ; וְיִדְּמוּ, לְמוֹ עֲצָתִי.li-shame'u veyichellu; veyiddemu, lemo atyati.Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
22.אַחֲרֵי דְבָרִי, לֹא יִשְׁנוּ; וְעָלֵימוֹ, תִּטֹּף מִלָּתִי.acharei devari, lo yishnu; ve'aleimo, tittof millati.After my words they spoke not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
23.וְיִחֲלוּ כַמָּטָר לִי; וּפִיהֶם, פָּעֲרוּ לְמַלְקוֹשׁ.veyihalu kamatar li; ufihem, pa'aru lemalkosh.And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
24.אֶשְׂחַק אֲלֵהֶם, לֹא יַאֲמִינוּ; וְאוֹר פָּנַי, לֹא יַפִּילוּן.eshchak alehem, lo ya'aminu; ve'or panay, lo yappilun.If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
25.אֶבְחַר דַּרְכָּם, וְאֵשֵׁב רֹאשׁ:וְאֶשְׁכּוֹן, כְּמֶלֶךְ בַּגְּדוּד; כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲבֵלִים יְנַחֵם.ebchar darkam, ve'esheb rosh:veshkon, kemelekh bagedud; ka'asher abelim yenachem.I chose out their way, and sat as chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
