1.
נָקְטָה נַפְשִׁי, בְּחַיָּי: אֶעֶזְבָה עָלַי שִׂיחִי; אֲדַבְּרָה, בְּמַר נַפְשִׁי.
noqtah nafshi, bekhiyyai: e'ezvah 'alay sikhi; adabrah, bemar nafshi.
My soul is weary of my life; I will give free course to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
2.
אֹמַר אֶל-אֱלוֹהַּ, אַל-תַּרְשִׁיעֵנִי; הוֹדִיעֵנִי, עַל מַה-תְּרִיבֵנִי.
omar el-Eloah, al-tarshiyeni; hodiyeni, 'al mah-teriveni.
I will say unto God: Do not condemn me; make me know wherefore Thou contendest with me.
3.
הֲטוֹב לְךָ, כִּי-תַעֲשֹׁק--כִּי-תִמְאַס, יְגִיעַ כַּפֶּיךָ; וְעַל-עֲצַת רְשָׁעִים הוֹפָעְתָּ.
hatov lekha, ki-ta'ashok--ki-tim'as, yegi'a kapeykha; ve'al-'atzat resha'im hofa'ta.
Is it good unto Thee that Thou shouldest oppress, that Thou shouldest despise the work of Thy hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

הַעֵינֵי בָשָׂר לָךְ: אִם-כִּרְאוֹת אֱנוֹשׁ תִּרְאֶה.
ha'eynei vasar lakh: im-kir'ot enosh tir'eh.
Hast Thou eyes of flesh? or seest Thou as man seeth?
5.
הֲכִימֵי אֱנוֹשׁ יָמֶיךָ: אִם-שְׁנוֹתֶיךָ, כִּימֵי גָבֶר.
Hakhime enosh yameykha: im-shenoteykha, kimei gaver.
Are Thy days as the days of man, or Thy years as a man's days,
6.
כִּי-תְבַקֵּשׁ לַעֲוֺנִי; וּלְחַטָּאתִי תִדְרוֹשׁ.
Ki-tevakesh la'avoni; ulekhatati tidrosh.
That Thou inquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin,
7.
עַל-דַּעְתְּךָ, כִּי-לֹא אֶרְשָׁע; וְאֵין מִיָּדְךָ מַצִּיל.
Al-da'tekha, ki-lo ersha; ve'en miyadkha matzil.
Although Thou knowest that I shall not be condemned; and there is none that can deliver out of Thy hand?
8.
יָדֶיךָ עִצְּבוּנִי, וַיַּעֲשׂוּנִי; יַחַד סָבִיב, וַתְּבַלְּעֵנִי.
Yadeykha itzevuni, vayasuni; yakhad saviv, vatebal'eni.
Thy hands have framed me and fashioned me together round about; yet Thou dost destroy me!
9.
זְכָר-נָא, כִּי-כַחֹמֶר עֲשִׂיתָנִי; וְאֶל-עָפָר תְּשִׁיבֵנִי.
zekhar-na, ki-khakhotomer ashitani; ve'el-afar teshiveni.
Remember, I beseech Thee, that Thou hast fashioned me as clay; and wilt Thou bring me into dust again?
10.
הֲלֹא כֶחָלָב, תַּתִּיכֵנִי; וְכַגְּבִנָּה, תַּקְפִּיאֵנִי.
halo khekhalav, tاتikheni; vekhagevinah, takfi'eni.
Hast Thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
11.
עוֹר וּבָשָׂר, תַּלְבִּישֵׁנִי; וּבַעֲצָמוֹת וְגִידִים, תְּשֹׂכְכֵנִי.
or uvasar, talbisheni; uva'atzamot ugegidim, tesokhekeni.
Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.
12.
חַיִּים וָחֶסֶד, עָשִׂיתָ עִמָּדִי; וּפְקֻדָּתְךָ, שָׁמְרָה רוּחִי.
khayim vakhesed, ashita imadi; upekudatkha, shamerah rukhi.
Thou hast granted me life and favour, and Thy providence hath preserved my spirit.
13.
וְאֵלֶּה, צָפַנְתָּ בִלְבָבֶךָ; יָדַעְתִּי, כִּי-זֹאת עִמָּךְ.
ve'eleh, tzafanta vilvavekha; yada'ti, ki-zot immakh.
Yet these things Thou didst hide in Thy heart; I know that this is with Thee;
14.
אִם-חָטָאתִי וּשְׁמַרְתָּנִי; וּמֵעֲוֺנִי, לֹא תְנַקֵּנִי.
im-chatati ushemartani; ume'avoni, lo tenakeni.
If I sin, then Thou markest me, and Thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
15.
אִם-רָשַׁעְתִּי, אַלְלַי לִי-- וְצָדַקְתִּי, לֹא-אֶשָּׂא רֹאשִׁי;שְׂבַע קָלוֹן, וּרְאֵה עָנְיִי.
im-rashati, allay li-- vetzadiqti, lo-essa roshi; seva qalon, ure'eh 'onyi.
If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet shall I not lift up my head-- being filled with ignominy and looking upon mine affliction.
16.
וְיִגְאֶה, כַּשַּׁחַל תְּצוּדֵנִי; וְתָשֹׁב, תִּתְפַּלָּא-בִי.
veyig'eh, kashachal tetzudeni; vetashov, titpalla-vi.
And if it exalt itself, Thou huntest me as a lion; and again Thou showest Thyself marvellous upon me.
17.
תְּחַדֵּשׁ עֵדֶיךָ, נֶגְדִּי, וְתֶרֶב כַּעַשְׂךָ, עִמָּדִי; חֲלִיפוֹת וְצָבָא עִמִּי.
tekhadesh edeikha negdi veterev ka'askha immadi khalifot ve'tsava immi
Thou renewest Thy witnesses against me, and increasest Thine indignation upon me; host succeeding host against me.
18.
וְלָמָּה מֵרֶחֶם, הֹצֵאתָנִי; אֶגְוַע, וְעַיִן לֹא-תִרְאֵנִי.
velamma merechem hotzetani egva ve'ayin lo tir'eni
Wherefore then hast Thou brought me forth out of the womb? Would that I had perished, and no eye had seen me!
19.
כַּאֲשֶׁר לֹא-הָיִיתִי אֶהְיֶה; מִבֶּטֶן, לַקֶּבֶר אוּבָל.
ka'asher lo hayiti ehye mibbeten laqever uval
I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
20.
הֲלֹא-מְעַט יָמַי יחדל וַחֲדָל; ישית וְשִׁית מִמֶּנִּי, וְאַבְלִיגָה מְּעָט.
halo meat yamay yakhdal vakhadal yashit veshit mimmenni ve'avliga meat
Are not my days few? Cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
21.
בְּטֶרֶם אֵלֵךְ, וְלֹא אָשׁוּב-- אֶל-אֶרֶץ חֹשֶׁךְ וְצַלְמָוֶת.
betelem elekh, velo ashuv-- el-eretz khoshekh vetzalmavet.
Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
22.
אֶרֶץ עֵפָתָה, כְּמוֹ אֹפֶל--צַלְמָוֶת, וְלֹא סְדָרִים; וַתֹּפַע כְּמוֹ-אֹפֶל.
eretz efatah, kemo ofel--tzalmavet, velo sedarim; vetofa kemo-ofel.
A land of thick darkness, as darkness itself; a land of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
