1.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֵלַי, קַח-לְךָ גִּלָּיוֹן גָּדוֹל; וּכְתֹב עָלָיו בְּחֶרֶט אֱנוֹשׁ, לְמַהֵר שָׁלָל חָשׁ בַּז.
vayomer YHWH elay kach lecha gilyon gadol uchetov alav becheret enosh lemaher shalal chash baz.
And the LORD said unto me: 'Take thee a great tablet, and write upon it in common script: The spoil speedeth, the prey hasteth;
2.
וְאָעִידָה לִּי, עֵדִים נֶאֱמָנִים--אֵת אוּרִיָּה הַכֹּהֵן, וְאֶת-זְכַרְיָהוּ בֶּן יְבֶרֶכְיָהוּ.
ve'a'idah li edim ne'emanim et uriyah hakohen ve'et zechariahu ben yeverechyahu.
and I will take unto Me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.'

וָאֶקְרַב, אֶל-הַנְּבִיאָה, וַתַּהַר, וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן; וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, אֵלַי, קְרָא שְׁמוֹ, מַהֵר שָׁלָל חָשׁ בַּז.
va'ekrav el hanevi'ah vatahar vateled ben vayomer YHWH elay kera shemo maher shalal chash baz.
And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bore a son. Then said the LORD unto me: 'Call his name Maher-shalal-hashbaz.

כִּי, בְּטֶרֶם יֵדַע הַנַּעַר, קְרֹא, אָבִי וְאִמִּי--יִשָּׂא אֶת-חֵיל דַּמֶּשֶׂק, וְאֵת שְׁלַל שֹׁמְרוֹן, לִפְנֵי, מֶלֶךְ אַשּׁוּר.
ki bete-rem yeda hana'ar kro avi ve'imi yisa et-kheil damesek ve'et shelal shomron lifnei melekh asshur.
For before the child shall have knowledge to cry: My father, and: My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.'
5.
וַיֹּסֶף יְהוָה, דַּבֵּר אֵלַי עוֹד לֵאמֹר.
vayosef YHWH daber elay od lemor.
And the LORD spoke unto me yet again, saying:
6.
יַעַן, כִּי מָאַס הָעָם הַזֶּה, אֵת מֵי הַשִּׁלֹחַ, הַהֹלְכִים לְאַט; וּמְשׂוֹשׂ אֶת-רְצִין, וּבֶן-רְמַלְיָהוּ.
ya'an ki ma'as ha'am hazeh et mei hashilo'akh haholkhim le'at umesos et-retzin uven-remalyahu.
Forasmuch as this people hath refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoiceth with Rezin and Remaliah's son;

וְלָכֵן הִנֵּה אֲדֹנָי מַעֲלֶה עֲלֵיהֶם אֶת-מֵי הַנָּהָר, הָעֲצוּמִים וְהָרַבִּים--אֶת-מֶלֶךְ אַשּׁוּר, וְאֶת-כָּל-כְּבוֹדוֹ; וְעָלָה, עַל-כָּל-אֲפִיקָיו, וְהָלַךְ, עַל-כָּל-גְּדוֹתָיו.
velakhen hineh Adonai ma'aleh alehem et-mei hanahar ha'atzumim ve'harabim et-melekh asshur ve'et-kol-kevodo ve'ala al-kol-afikav vehalakh al-kol-gedotav.
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the River, mighty and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks;
8.
וְחָלַף בִּיהוּדָה שָׁטַף וְעָבַר, עַד-צַוָּאר יַגִּיעַ; וְהָיָה מֻטּוֹת כְּנָפָיו, מְלֹא רֹחַב-אַרְצְךָ עִמָּנוּ אֵל.
ve'chalaf bi'Yehudah shataf ve'avar, ad-tzava'r yagi'a; vehayah muttot kenafav, melo rochav-artzecha immanu El.
And he shall sweep through Judah overflowing as he passeth through he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.
9.
רֹעוּ עַמִּים, וָחֹתּוּ, וְהַאֲזִינוּ, כֹּל מֶרְחַקֵּי-אָרֶץ; הִתְאַזְּרוּ וָחֹתּוּ, הִתְאַזְּרוּ וָחֹתּוּ.
ro'u amim, vachottu, veha'azinu, kol merchakkei-aretz; hit'azzuru vachottu, hit'azzuru vachottu.
Make an uproar, O ye peoples, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
10.
עֻצוּ עֵצָה, וְתֻפָר; דַּבְּרוּ דָבָר וְלֹא יָקוּם, כִּי עִמָּנוּ אֵל.
utzu etzah, vetufar; dabberu davar velo yakum, ki immanu El.
Take counsel together, and it shall be brought to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand; for God is with us.
11.
כִּי כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה אֵלַי, כְּחֶזְקַת הַיָּד; וְיִסְּרֵנִי, מִלֶּכֶת בְּדֶרֶךְ הָעָם-הַזֶּה לֵאמֹר.
ki koh amar YHWH elay, kechezkat hayyad; veyissreni, millechet bederech ha'am-hazzeh lemor.
For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand, admonishing me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying:
12.
לֹא-תֹאמְרוּן קֶשֶׁר, לְכֹל אֲשֶׁר-יֹאמַר הָעָם הַזֶּה קָשֶׁר; וְאֶת-מוֹרָאוֹ לֹא-תִירְאוּ, וְלֹא תַעֲרִיצוּ.
lo-to'mrun kesher, lekhol asher-yomar ha'am hazeh kasher; ve'et-mora'o lo-tiru'u, ve'lo ta'aritsu.
'Say ye not: A conspiracy, concerning all whereof this people do say: A conspiracy; neither fear ye their fear, nor account it dreadful.
13.
אֶת-יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, אֹתוֹ תַקְדִּישׁוּ; וְהוּא מוֹרַאֲכֶם, וְהוּא מַעֲרִצְכֶם.
et-YHWH tseva'ot, oto takdishu; vehu mora'akhem, vehu ma'aritskhem.
The LORD of hosts, Him shall ye sanctify; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.
14.
וְהָיָה, לְמִקְדָּשׁ; וּלְאֶבֶן נֶגֶף וּלְצוּר מִכְשׁוֹל לִשְׁנֵי בָתֵּי יִשְׂרָאֵל, לְפַח וּלְמוֹקֵשׁ--לְיוֹשֵׁב, יְרוּשָׁלִָם.
vehayah, lemikdash; ule'even negef uletsur mikhshol lishnei vatei Yisrael, lefah ulemokesh--leyoshev, Yerushalayim.
And He shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15.
וְכָשְׁלוּ בָם, רַבִּים; וְנָפְלוּ וְנִשְׁבָּרוּ, וְנוֹקְשׁוּ וְנִלְכָּדוּ.
vekhashelu vam, rabbim; venafelu venishbaru, venokshu venilkadu.
And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.'
16.
צוֹר, תְּעוּדָה; חֲתוֹם תּוֹרָה, בְּלִמֻּדָי.
tzor, te'udah; khatom torah, belimuday.
'Bind up the testimony, seal the instruction among My disciples.'
17.
וְחִכִּיתִי, לַיהוָה, הַמַּסְתִּיר פָּנָיו, מִבֵּית יַעֲקֹב; וְקִוֵּיתִי-לוֹ.
vekhikiti, la'Adonai, hamastir panav, mibeit Ya'akov; vekiveti-lo.
And I will wait for the LORD, that hideth His face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for Him.
18.
הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי, וְהַיְלָדִים אֲשֶׁר נָתַן-לִי יְהוָה, לְאֹתוֹת וּלְמוֹפְתִים, בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל--מֵעִם יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, הַשֹּׁכֵן בְּהַר צִיּוֹן.
hineh anokhi, vehayeladim asher natan-li YHWH, le'otot ulemoftim, beyisrael--me'im YHWH tzeva'ot, hashochen behar Tziyon.
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me shall be for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion.
19.
וְכִי-יֹאמְרוּ אֲלֵיכֶם, דִּרְשׁוּ אֶל-הָאֹבוֹת וְאֶל-הַיִּדְּעֹנִים, הַמְצַפְצְפִים, וְהַמַּהְגִּים: הֲלוֹא-עַם אֶל-אֱלֹהָיו יִדְרֹשׁ, בְּעַד הַחַיִּים אֶל-הַמֵּתִים.
vekhi-yomru aleichem, dirshu el-ha'ovot ve'el-hayide'onim, hamtzapfetfim, vehamhaggim: halo-am el-Elohav yidrosh, be'ad hakhayim el-hametim.
And when they shall say unto you: 'Seek unto the ghosts and the familiar spirits, that chirp and that mutter; should not a people seek unto their God? on behalf of the living unto the dead
20.
לְתוֹרָה, וְלִתְעוּדָה; אִם-לֹא יֹאמְרוּ כַּדָּבָר הַזֶּה, אֲשֶׁר אֵין-לוֹ שָׁחַר.
le'torah, ve'lit'udah; im-lo yomeru ka'davar ha'zeh, asher ein-lo shachar.
for instruction and for testimony?'--Surely they will speak according to this word, wherein there is no light.--
21.
וְעָבַר בָּהּ, נִקְשֶׁה וְרָעֵב; וְהָיָה כִי-יִרְעַב וְהִתְקַצַּף, וְקִלֵּל בְּמַלְכּוֹ וּבֵאלֹהָיו--וּפָנָה לְמָעְלָה.
ve'avar bah, niqsheh ve'ra'ev; ve'hayah khi-yir'av ve'hit'qatzap, ve'qillel be'malko u've'elohav--u'panah le'ma'elah.
And they shall pass this way that are sore bestead and hungry; and it shall come to pass that, when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse by their king and by their God, and, whether they turn their faces upward,
22.
וְאֶל-אֶרֶץ, יַבִּיט; וְהִנֵּה צָרָה וַחֲשֵׁכָה מְעוּף צוּקָה, וַאֲפֵלָה מְנֻדָּח.
ve'el-eretz, yabbit; ve'hineh tzarah va'chashekah me'uf tzuqah, va'apelah menudah.
or look unto the earth, behold distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish, and outspread thick darkness.
23.
כִּי לֹא מוּעָף, לַאֲשֶׁר מוּצָק לָהּ, כָּעֵת הָרִאשׁוֹן הֵקַל אַרְצָה זְבֻלוּן וְאַרְצָה נַפְתָּלִי, וְהָאַחֲרוֹן הִכְבִּיד--דֶּרֶךְ הַיָּם עֵבֶר הַיַּרְדֵּן, גְּלִיל הַגּוֹיִם.
ki lo mu'af, la'asher mutzaq lah, ka'et ha'rishon heqal artzah zevulun ve'artzah naftali, ve'ha'acharon hikhbid--derekh ha'yam ever ha'yarden, gelil ha'goyim.
For is there no gloom to her that was stedfast? Now the former hath lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but the latter hath dealt a more grievous blow by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, in the district of the nations.
