1.
בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם, חָלָה חִזְקִיָּהוּ לָמוּת; וַיָּבוֹא אֵלָיו יְשַׁעְיָהוּ בֶן-אָמוֹץ הַנָּבִיא, וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה צַו לְבֵיתֶךָ--כִּי מֵת אַתָּה, וְלֹא תִחְיֶה.
bayamim hahem, khalah khizkiyahu lamut; vayavo elav yeshayahu ven-amots hanavi, vayomer elav koh-amar YHWH tsav levetecha--ki met atah, velo tikhyeh.
In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD: Set thy house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.'
2.
וַיַּסֵּב חִזְקִיָּהוּ פָּנָיו, אֶל-הַקִּיר; וַיִּתְפַּלֵּל, אֶל-יְהוָה.
vayasev khizkiyahu panav, el-hakir; vayitpallel, el-YHWH.
Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD,

וַיֹּאמַר, אָנָּה יְהוָה זְכָר-נָא אֵת אֲשֶׁר הִתְהַלַּכְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ בֶּאֱמֶת וּבְלֵב שָׁלֵם, וְהַטּוֹב בְּעֵינֶיךָ, עָשִׂיתִי; וַיֵּבְךְּ חִזְקִיָּהוּ, בְּכִי גָדוֹל.
vayomer, anah YHWH zekar-na et asher hithalakti lefanicha beemet uvelev shalem, vehatov beeinecha, asiti; vayevk khizkiyahu, vekhi gadol.
and said: 'Remember now, O LORD, I beseech Thee, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a whole heart, and have done that which is good in Thy sight.' And Hezekiah wept sore.
4.
וַיְהִי, דְּבַר-יְהוָה, אֶל-יְשַׁעְיָהוּ, לֵאמֹר.
vayhi, devar-YHWH, el-yeshayahu, lemor.
Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying:
5.
הָלוֹךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ אֶל-חִזְקִיָּהוּ, כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי דָּוִד אָבִיךָ, שָׁמַעְתִּי אֶת-תְּפִלָּתֶךָ, רָאִיתִי אֶת-דִּמְעָתֶךָ; הִנְנִי יוֹסִף עַל-יָמֶיךָ, חֲמֵשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה.
halokh ve'amarta el-hizkiyahu, koh-amar YHWH Elohei David avikha, shamati et-tefillatekha, ra'iti et-dim'atekha; hinni yosif al-yamekha, khamesh esreh shanah.
'Go, and say to Hezekiah: Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears; behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
6.
וּמִכַּף מֶלֶךְ-אַשּׁוּר אַצִּילְךָ, וְאֵת הָעִיר הַזֹּאת; וְגַנּוֹתִי, עַל-הָעִיר הַזֹּאת.
umikaf melekh-ashur atzilkha, ve'et ha'ir hazzot; vegannoti, al-ha'ir hazzot.
And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city.
7.
וְזֶה-לְּךָ הָאוֹת, מֵאֵת יְהוָה, אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה יְהוָה, אֶת-הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּר.
wezeh-lekha ha'ot, me'et YHWH, asher ya'aseh YHWH, et-haddavar hazzeh asher dibber.
And this shall be the sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that He hath spoken:
8.
הִנְנִי מֵשִׁיב אֶת-צֵל הַמַּעֲלוֹת אֲשֶׁר יָרְדָה בְמַעֲלוֹת אָחָז בַּשֶּׁמֶשׁ, אֲחֹרַנִּית--עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת; וַתָּשָׁב הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת, בַּמַּעֲלוֹת אֲשֶׁר יָרָדָה.
hinni meshib et-tzel hamma'alot asher yardah vema'alot akhaz basshemesh, akhorannit--eser ma'alot; wattashav hashemesh eser ma'alot, bamma'alot asher yaradah.
behold, I will cause the shadow of the dial, which is gone down on the sun-dial of Ahaz, to return backward ten degrees.' So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.
9.
מִכְתָּב, לְחִזְקִיָּהוּ מֶלֶךְ-יְהוּדָה, בַּחֲלֹתוֹ, וַיְחִי מֵחָלְיוֹ.
mikhtav, lekhizkiyahu melekh-yehudah, bakhaloto, vaykhi mekhalyo.
The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness.
10.
אֲנִי אָמַרְתִּי, בִּדְמִי יָמַי אֵלֵכָה--בְּשַׁעֲרֵי שְׁאוֹל; פֻּקַּדְתִּי, יֶתֶר שְׁנוֹתָי.
ani amarti, bidmi yamay elekhah--besha'arei she'ol; puqadti, yeter shenotay.
I said: In the noontide of my days I shall go, even to the gates of the nether-world; I am deprived of the residue of my years.
11.
אָמַרְתִּי לֹא-אֶרְאֶה יָהּ, יָהּ בְּאֶרֶץ הַחַיִּים; לֹא-אַבִּיט אָדָם עוֹד, עִם-יוֹשְׁבֵי חָדֶל.
amarti lo-er'eh yah, yah be'eretz hakhayyim; lo-abbit adam od, im-yoshvei khadel.
I said: I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD in the land of the living; I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
12.
דּוֹרִי, נִסַּע וְנִגְלָה מִנִּי--כְּאֹהֶל רֹעִי; קִפַּדְתִּי כָאֹרֵג חַיַּי מִדַּלָּה יְבַצְּעֵנִי, מִיּוֹם עַד-לַיְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵנִי.
dori, nissa veniglah minni--ke'ohel ro'i; qipadti kha'oreg khayay middallah yevatze'eni, miyom ad-laylah tashlimeni.
My habitation is plucked up and carried away from me as a shepherd's tent; I have rolled up like a weaver my life; He will cut me off from the thrum; from day even to night wilt Thou make an end of me.
13.
שִׁוִּיתִי עַד-בֹּקֶר כָּאֲרִי, כֵּן יְשַׁבֵּר כָּל-עַצְמוֹתָי; מִיּוֹם עַד-לַיְלָה, תַּשְׁלִימֵנִי.
shiviti ad-boker ka'ari, ken yeshaber kol-atzmotay; miyom ad-layla, tashlimeni.
The more I make myself like unto a lion until morning, the more it breaketh all my bones; from day even to night wilt Thou make an end of me.
14.
כְּסוּס עָגוּר כֵּן אֲצַפְצֵף, אֶהְגֶּה כַּיּוֹנָה; דַּלּוּ עֵינַי לַמָּרוֹם, אֲדֹנָי עָשְׁקָה-לִּי עָרְבֵנִי.
ksus agur ken atzafchef, ehge kayona; dalu enay lamarom, Adonai oshka-li areveni.
Like a swallow or a crane, so do I chatter, I do moan as a dove; mine eyes fail with looking upward. O LORD, I am oppressed, be Thou my surety.
15.
מָה-אֲדַבֵּר וְאָמַר-לִי, וְהוּא עָשָׂה; אֶדַּדֶּה כָל-שְׁנוֹתַי, עַל-מַר נַפְשִׁי.
mah-adaber ve'amar-li, vehu asah; edadeh kol-shenotay, al-mar nafshi.
What shall I say? He hath both spoken unto me, and Himself hath done it; I shall go softly all my years for the bitterness of my soul.
16.
אֲדֹנָי, עֲלֵיהֶם יִחְיוּ; וּלְכָל-בָּהֶן חַיֵּי רוּחִי, וְתַחֲלִימֵנִי וְהַחֲיֵנִי.
Adonai, alehem yichyu; ulekhal-bahen chaye ruchi, vetachalimeni vehachayeni.
O Lord, by these things men live, and altogether therein is the life of my spirit; wherefore recover Thou me, and make me to live.
17.
הִנֵּה לְשָׁלוֹם, מַר-לִי מָר; וְאַתָּה חָשַׁקְתָּ נַפְשִׁי, מִשַּׁחַת בְּלִי, כִּי הִשְׁלַכְתָּ אַחֲרֵי גֵוְךָ, כָּל-חֲטָאָי.
Hineh leshalom, mar-li mar; ve'atah khashtaf nafshi, mishakhat beli, ki hishlakta akharei gevékha, kol-khata'ay.
Behold, for my peace I had great bitterness; but Thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; for Thou hast cast all my sins behind Thy back.
18.
כִּי לֹא שְׁאוֹל תּוֹדֶךָּ, מָוֶת יְהַלְלֶךָּ; לֹא-יְשַׂבְּרוּ יוֹרְדֵי-בוֹר, אֶל-אֲמִתֶּךָ.
Ki lo she'ol todekha, mavet yehallekha; lo-yesabreu yorede-vor, el-amitekha.
For the nether-world cannot praise Thee, death cannot celebrate Thee; they that go down into the pit cannot hope for Thy truth.
19.
חַי חַי הוּא יוֹדֶךָ, כָּמוֹנִי הַיּוֹם; אָב לְבָנִים, יוֹדִיעַ אֶל-אֲמִתֶּךָ.
Khai khai hu yodekha, kamoni hayom; av levanim, yodi'a el-amitekha.
The living, the living, he shall praise Thee, as I do this day; the father to the children shall make known Thy truth.
20.
יְהוָה, לְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי; וּנְגִנוֹתַי נְנַגֵּן כָּל-יְמֵי חַיֵּינוּ, עַל-בֵּית יְהוָה.
YHWH, lehoshi'eni; unginotay nenagen kol-yeme khayenu, al-bet YHWH.
The LORD is ready to save me; therefore we will sing songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
21.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְשַׁעְיָהוּ, יִשְׂאוּ דְּבֶלֶת תְּאֵנִים; וְיִמְרְחוּ עַל-הַשְּׁחִין, וְיֶחִי.
vayomer Yeshayahu, yis'u develet te'anim; veyimrehu al-hashchin, veyechi.
And Isaiah said: 'Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover.'
22.
וַיֹּאמֶר חִזְקִיָּהוּ, מָה אוֹת: כִּי אֶעֱלֶה, בֵּית יְהוָה.
vayomer Chizkiyahu, mah ot: ki e'eleh, beit YHWH.
And Hezekiah said. 'What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?'
