וְהָיָה מִסְפַּר בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, כְּחוֹל הַיָּם, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יִמַּד, וְלֹא יִסָּפֵר; וְהָיָה בִּמְקוֹם אֲשֶׁר-יֵאָמֵר לָהֶם, לֹא-עַמִּי אַתֶּם, יֵאָמֵר לָהֶם, בְּנֵי אֵל-חָי.

vehayah mispar bene-Yisrael, kekhol hayam, asher lo-yimad, velo yisaper; vehayah bimkom asher-ye'amer lahem, lo-'ammi attem, ye'amer lahem, bene el-khay.

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that, instead of that which was said unto them: 'Ye are not My people', it shall be said unto them: 'Ye are the children of the living God.'

וְנִקְבְּצוּ בְּנֵי-יְהוּדָה וּבְנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, יַחְדָּו, וְשָׂמוּ לָהֶם רֹאשׁ אֶחָד, וְעָלוּ מִן-הָאָרֶץ: כִּי גָדוֹל, יוֹם יִזְרְעֶאל.

venikbetsU bene-Yehudah uve-Yisrael, yakhdaw, vesamu lahem rosh ekhad, ve'alu min-ha'aretz: ki gadol, yom Yizre'el.

And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall go up out of the land; for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

אִמְרוּ לַאֲחֵיכֶם, עַמִּי; וְלַאֲחוֹתֵיכֶם, רֻחָמָה.

imru la'akhekhem, 'ammi; vela'akhotekhem, rukhamah.

Say ye unto your brethren: 'Ammi'; and to your sisters, 'Ruhamah.'

רִיבוּ בְאִמְּכֶם, רִיבוּ--כִּי-הִיא לֹא אִשְׁתִּי, וְאָנֹכִי לֹא אִישָׁהּ; וְתָסֵר זְנוּנֶיהָ מִפָּנֶיהָ, וְנַאֲפוּפֶיהָ מִבֵּין שָׁדֶיהָ.

rivu be'immekhem, rivu--ki-hi lo ishti, ve'anokhi lo ishah; vetaser zenukheha mipmaneyha, vena'apufeyha mibbein shadeha.

Plead with your mother, plead; for she is not My wife, neither am I her husband; and let her put away her harlotries from her face, and her adulteries from between her breasts;

פֶּן-אַפְשִׁיטֶנָּה עֲרֻמָּה--וְהִצַּגְתִּיהָ, כְּיוֹם הִוָּלְדָהּ; וְשַׂמְתִּיהָ כַמִּדְבָּר, וְשַׁתִּהָ כְּאֶרֶץ צִיָּה, וַהֲמִתִּיהָ, בַּצָּמָא.

pen-afshitenah arumah ve-hitztigtiha ke-yom hivaldah ve-samtiha ka-midbar ve-shatiha ke-eretz tziyah ve-hamitiha ba-tzama.

Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

וְאֶת-בָּנֶיהָ, לֹא אֲרַחֵם: כִּי-בְנֵי זְנוּנִים, הֵמָּה.

ve-et-baneha lo arahem ki-venei zenunim hemah.

And I will not have compassion upon her children; for they are children of harlotry.

כִּי זָנְתָה אִמָּם, הֹבִישָׁה הוֹרָתָם: כִּי אָמְרָה, אֵלְכָה אַחֲרֵי מְאַהֲבַי נֹתְנֵי לַחְמִי וּמֵימַי, צַמְרִי וּפִשְׁתִּי, שַׁמְנִי וְשִׁקּוּיָי.

ki zanetah imam hovishah horatam ki amarah elekhah aharei me'ahavai notenei lahmi u-meyami tzamri u-fishti shamni ve-shikuyai.

For their mother hath played the harlot, she that conceived them hath done shamefully; for she said: 'I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.'

לָכֵן הִנְנִי-שָׂךְ אֶת-דַּרְכֵּךְ, בַּסִּירִים; וְגָדַרְתִּי אֶת-גְּדֵרָהּ, וּנְתִיבוֹתֶיהָ לֹא תִמְצָא.

laken hinni-sakh et-darkek ba-sirim ve-gadarti et gederah u-netivoteha lo timtza.

Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will make a wall against her, that she shall not find her paths.

וְרִדְּפָה אֶת-מְאַהֲבֶיהָ וְלֹא-תַשִּׂיג אֹתָם, וּבִקְשָׁתַם וְלֹא תִמְצָא; וְאָמְרָה, אֵלְכָה וְאָשׁוּבָה אֶל-אִישִׁי הָרִאשׁוֹן--כִּי טוֹב לִי אָז, מֵעָתָּה.

veridefah et-me'ahaveha velo-tashig otam, uvikshatam velo timtza; ve'amrah, elekhah ve'ashuvah el-ishi harishon--ki tov li az, me'atah.

And she shall run after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them, and she shall seek them, but shall not find them; then shall she say: 'I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.'

10.

וְהִיא, לֹא יָדְעָה, כִּי אָנֹכִי נָתַתִּי לָהּ, הַדָּגָן וְהַתִּירוֹשׁ וְהַיִּצְהָר; וְכֶסֶף הִרְבֵּיתִי לָהּ וְזָהָב, עָשׂוּ לַבָּעַל.

vehi, lo yad'ah, ki anokhi natati lah, hadagan vehatirosh vehayitzhar; vekesef hirbeiti lah vehzahav, ashu laba'al.

For she did not know that it was I that gave her the corn, and the wine, and the oil, and multiplied unto her silver and gold, which they used for Baal.

11.

לָכֵן אָשׁוּב--וְלָקַחְתִּי דְגָנִי בְּעִתּוֹ, וְתִירוֹשִׁי בְּמוֹעֲדוֹ; וְהִצַּלְתִּי צַמְרִי וּפִשְׁתִּי, לְכַסּוֹת אֶת-עֶרְוָתָהּ.

lakhen ashuv--velakaḥti degani be'ito, vetiroshi bemo'ado; vehitzalti tzamri ufishti, lekhasot et-ervatah.

Therefore will I take back My corn in the time thereof, and My wine in the season thereof, and will snatch away My wool and My flax given to cover her nakedness.

12.

וְעַתָּה אֲגַלֶּה אֶת-נַבְלֻתָהּ, לְעֵינֵי מְאַהֲבֶיהָ; וְאִישׁ, לֹא-יַצִּילֶנָּה מִיָּדִי.

ve'atah agaleh et-navlutah, le'einei me'ahaveha; ve'ish, lo-yatzilennah miyadi.

And now will I uncover her shame in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of My hand.

13.

וְהִשְׁבַּתִּי, כָּל-מְשׂוֹשָׂהּ, חַגָּהּ, חָדְשָׁהּ וְשַׁבַּתָּהּ--וְכֹל, מוֹעֲדָהּ.

vehishbati, kol-mesosah, chaggah, chadshah veshabattah--vekhol, mo'adah.

I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feasts, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her appointed seasons.

14.

וַהֲשִׁמֹּתִי, גַּפְנָהּ וּתְאֵנָתָהּ, אֲשֶׁר אָמְרָה אֶתְנָה הֵמָּה לִי, אֲשֶׁר נָתְנוּ-לִי מְאַהֲבָי; וְשַׂמְתִּים לְיַעַר, וַאֲכָלָתַם חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה.

vahashemoti, gafnah ute'enatah, asher amrah etnah hemah li, asher natnu-li me'ahavay; vesamtims leya'ar, va'akhalatam chayyat hassadeh.

And I will lay waste her vines and her fig-trees, whereof she hath said: 'These are my hire that my lovers have given me'; and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.

15.

וּפָקַדְתִּי עָלֶיהָ, אֶת-יְמֵי הַבְּעָלִים אֲשֶׁר תַּקְטִיר לָהֶם, וַתַּעַד נִזְמָהּ וְחֶלְיָתָהּ, וַתֵּלֶךְ אַחֲרֵי מְאַהֲבֶיהָ; וְאֹתִי שָׁכְחָה, נְאֻם-יְהוָה.

ufakadti aleha, et-yemei habbe'alim asher taktir lahem, vatta'ad nizmah vechelyatah, vettelech acharei me'ahaveha; ve'oti shachchah, ne'um-YHWH.

And I will visit upon her the days of the Baalim, wherein she offered unto them, and decked herself with her ear-rings and her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgot Me, saith the LORD.

16.

לָכֵן, הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי מְפַתֶּיהָ, וְהֹלַכְתִּיהָ, הַמִּדְבָּר; וְדִבַּרְתִּי, עַל-לִבָּהּ.

lakhen, hinneh anochi mepatteha, veho'lachtiha, hammidbar; vedibarti, al-libbah.

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly unto her.

17.

וְנָתַתִּי לָהּ אֶת-כְּרָמֶיהָ מִשָּׁם, וְאֶת-עֵמֶק עָכוֹר לְפֶתַח תִּקְוָה; וְעָנְתָה שָּׁמָּה כִּימֵי נְעוּרֶיהָ, וּכְיוֹם עֲלוֹתָהּ מֵאֶרֶץ-מִצְרָיִם.

venatatti lah et-kerameha misham, ve'et-emek akhor lefetah tikvah; ve'anta shammah kime ne'ureha, ukhyom alotah me'eretz-mitzrayim.

And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she shall respond there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

18.

וְהָיָה בַיּוֹם-הַהוּא נְאֻם-יְהוָה, תִּקְרְאִי אִישִׁי; וְלֹא-תִקְרְאִי-לִי עוֹד, בַּעְלִי.

vehayah vayom-hahau neum-YHWH, tikrei ishi; velo-tikrei-li od, ba'li.

And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call Me Ishi, and shalt call Me no more Baali.

19.

וַהֲסִרֹתִי אֶת-שְׁמוֹת הַבְּעָלִים, מִפִּיהָ; וְלֹא-יִזָּכְרוּ עוֹד, בִּשְׁמָם.

vahasiroti et-shemot habe'alim, mipiha; velo-yizhakeru od, bishmam.

For I will take away the names of the Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be mentioned by their name.

20.

וְכָרַתִּי לָהֶם בְּרִית, בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא, עִם-חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וְעִם-עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם, וְרֶמֶשׂ הָאֲדָמָה; וְקֶשֶׁת וְחֶרֶב וּמִלְחָמָה אֶשְׁבּוֹר מִן-הָאָרֶץ, וְהִשְׁכַּבְתִּים לָבֶטַח.

vekharati lahem berit, bayom hahau, im-hayat hasadeh ve'im-of hashamayim, veremes ha'adamah; vekeshet veheref umilhamah eshbor min-ha'aretz, vehishkavtim lavetah.

And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground; and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the land, and will make them to lie down safely.

21.

וְאֵרַשְׂתִּיךְ לִי, לְעוֹלָם; וְאֵרַשְׂתִּיךְ לִי בְּצֶדֶק וּבְמִשְׁפָּט, וּבְחֶסֶד וּבְרַחֲמִים.

Ve'erastikh li, le'olam; ve'erastikh li betzedek uvemishpat, uvchesed uverakhamim.

And I will betroth thee unto Me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto Me in righteousness, and in justice, and in lovingkindness, and in compassion.

22.

וְאֵרַשְׂתִּיךְ לִי, בֶּאֱמוּנָה; וְיָדַעַתְּ, אֶת-יְהוָה.

Ve'erastikh li, be'emuna; veyada'at, et-YHWH.

And I will betroth thee unto Me in faithfulness; and thou shalt know the LORD.

23.

וְהָיָה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא, אֶעֱנֶה נְאֻם-יְהוָה--אֶעֱנֶה, אֶת-הַשָּׁמָיִם; וְהֵם, יַעֲנוּ אֶת-הָאָרֶץ.

Vehaya bayom hahu, e'ene neum-YHWH--e'ene, et-hashamayim; vehem, ya'anu et-ha'aretz.

And it shall come to pass in that day, I will respond, saith the LORD, I will respond to the heavens, and they shall respond to the earth;

24.

וְהָאָרֶץ תַּעֲנֶה, אֶת-הַדָּגָן וְאֶת-הַתִּירוֹשׁ וְאֶת-הַיִּצְהָר; וְהֵם, יַעֲנוּ אֶת-יִזְרְעֶאל.

Ve'ha'aretz ta'ane, et-hadagan ve'et-hati'rosh ve'et-hayitzhar; vehem, ya'anu et-Yizre'el.

And the earth shall respond to the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall respond to Jezreel.

25.

וּזְרַעְתִּיהָ לִּי בָּאָרֶץ, וְרִחַמְתִּי אֶת-לֹא רֻחָמָה; וְאָמַרְתִּי לְלֹא-עַמִּי עַמִּי-אַתָּה, וְהוּא יֹאמַר אֱלֹהָי.

uzera'tiha li ba'aretz, verichamti et-lo ruchamah; ve'amarti lelo-'ami 'ami-'atah, vehu yo'mar Elohai.

And I will sow her unto Me in the land; and I will have compassion upon her that had not obtained compassion; and I will say to them that were not My people: 'Thou art My people'; and they shall say: 'Thou art my God.'
