1.
סְבָבֻנִי בְכַחַשׁ אֶפְרַיִם, וּבְמִרְמָה בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל; וִיהוּדָה, עֹד רָד עִם-אֵל, וְעִם-קְדוֹשִׁים, נֶאֱמָן.
Sevarvuni vekhakhash Efrayim, uvemirma beit Yisrael; viYehuda, od rad im-El, ve'im-kedoshim, ne'eman.
Ephraim compasseth Me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit; and Judah is yet wayward towards God, and towards the Holy One who is faithful.
2.
אֶפְרַיִם רֹעֶה רוּחַ, וְרֹדֵף קָדִים--כָּל-הַיּוֹם, כָּזָב וָשֹׁד יַרְבֶּה; וּבְרִית עִם-אַשּׁוּר יִכְרֹתוּ, וְשֶׁמֶן לְמִצְרַיִם יוּבָל.
Efrayim ro'eh ruakh, verodef kadim--kol-hayom, kazav vashod yarbeh; uverit im-Ashur yikhrotu, veshemen leMitzrayim yuval.
Ephraim striveth after wind, and followeth after the east wind; all the day he multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

וְרִיב לַיהוָה, עִם-יְהוּדָה; וְלִפְקֹד עַל-יַעֲקֹב כִּדְרָכָיו, כְּמַעֲלָלָיו יָשִׁיב לוֹ.
Veriv laYHWH, im-Yehuda; velifkod al-Ya'akov kidrakhav, kema'alalav yashiv lo.
The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways, according to his doings will He recompense him.
4.
בַּבֶּטֶן, עָקַב אֶת-אָחִיו; וּבְאוֹנוֹ, שָׂרָה אֶת-אֱלֹהִים.
BaBeten, akav et-akhiv; uve'ono, sarah et-Elohim.
In the womb he took his brother by the heel, and by his strength he strove with a godlike being;

וַיָּשַׂר אֶל-מַלְאָךְ וַיֻּכָל, בָּכָה וַיִּתְחַנֶּן-לוֹ; בֵּית-אֵל, יִמְצָאֶנּוּ, וְשָׁם, יְדַבֵּר עִמָּנוּ.
vayashar el-mal'akh vayukhal, bakhah vayitkhannen-lo; beit-el, yimtza'ennu, vesham, yedaber 'immanu.
So he strove with an angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication unto him; at Beth-el he would find him, and there he would speak with us;

וַיהוָה, אֱלֹהֵי הַצְּבָאוֹת--יְהוָה, זִכְרוֹ.
vYHWH, elohei hatzva'ot--YHWH, zikhro.
But the LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is His name.
7.
וְאַתָּה, בֵּאלֹהֶיךָ תָשׁוּב; חֶסֶד וּמִשְׁפָּט שְׁמֹר, וְקַוֵּה אֶל-אֱלֹהֶיךָ תָּמִיד.
ve'attah, belohekha tashuv; khesed umishpat shemor, vekavveh el-elohekha tamid.
Therefore turn thou to thy God; keep mercy and justice, and wait for thy God continually.
8.
כְּנַעַן, בְּיָדוֹ מֹאזְנֵי מִרְמָה--לַעֲשֹׁק אָהֵב.
kena'an, beyado mozenei mirmah--la'ashok ahev.
As for the trafficker, the balances of deceit are in his hand. He loveth to oppress.
9.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֶפְרַיִם--אַךְ עָשַׁרְתִּי, מָצָאתִי אוֹן לִי; כָּל-יְגִיעַי, לֹא יִמְצְאוּ-לִי עָוֺן אֲשֶׁר-חֵטְא.
Vayomer Efrayim--akh ashartiy, matzati on liy; kol-yegiy'ay, lo yimtְze'u-liy avon asher-chetְ.
And Ephraim said: 'Surely I am become rich, I have found me wealth; in all my labours they shall find in me no iniquity that were sin.'
10.
וְאָנֹכִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; עֹד אוֹשִׁיבְךָ בָאֳהָלִים, כִּימֵי מוֹעֵד.
Ve'anokhi YHWH Elohekha, me'eretz mitzrayim; od oshivkha va'ohalim, kimey mo'ed.
But I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; I will yet again make thee to dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed season.
11.
וְדִבַּרְתִּי, עַל-הַנְּבִיאִים, וְאָנֹכִי, חָזוֹן הִרְבֵּיתִי; וּבְיַד הַנְּבִיאִים, אֲדַמֶּה.
Vedi-bartiy, al-hannevi'im, ve'anokhi, khazon hirbetiy; uveyad hannevi'im, adammeh.
I have also spoken unto the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets have I used similitudes.
12.
אִם-גִּלְעָד אָוֶן אַךְ-שָׁוְא הָיוּ, בַּגִּלְגָּל שְׁוָרִים זִבֵּחוּ; גַּם מִזְבְּחוֹתָם כְּגַלִּים, עַל תַּלְמֵי שָׂדָי.
Im-gil'ad aven akh-shav avu, bagilg-gal shevarim zibekhu; gam mizbechotam kegallim, al talmey saday.
If Gilead be given to iniquity becoming altogether vanity, in Gilgal they sacrifice unto bullocks; yea, their altars shall be as heaps in the furrows of the field.
13.
וַיִּבְרַח יַעֲקֹב, שְׂדֵה אֲרָם; וַיַּעֲבֹד יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּאִשָּׁה, וּבְאִשָּׁה שָׁמָר.
vayivrach Ya'akov, sadeh Aram; vaya'avod Yisrael be'ishah, uve'ishah shamar.
And Jacob fled into the field of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
14.
וּבְנָבִיא, הֶעֱלָה יְהוָה אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרָיִם; וּבְנָבִיא, נִשְׁמָר.
uvenavi, he'elah YHWH et-Yisrael mimmitzrayim; uvenavi, nishmar.
And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he kept.
15.
הִכְעִיס אֶפְרַיִם, תַּמְרוּרִים; וְדָמָיו, עָלָיו יִטּוֹשׁ, וְחֶרְפָּתוֹ, יָשִׁיב לוֹ אֲדֹנָיו.
hikh'is Efrayim, tamrurim; vedamav, alav yitosh, veherpato, yashiv lo Adonav.
Ephraim hath provoked most bitterly; therefore shall his blood be cast upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
