1.
וְאַבְרָהָם זָקֵן, בָּא בַּיָּמִים; וַיהוָה בֵּרַךְ אֶת-אַבְרָהָם, בַּכֹּל.
Ve'avraham zaken, ba bayamim; va'Adonai berakh et-Avraham, bakol.
And Abraham was old, well stricken in age; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
2.
וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָהָם, אֶל-עַבְדּוֹ זְקַן בֵּיתוֹ, הַמֹּשֵׁל, בְּכָל-אֲשֶׁר-לוֹ: שִׂים-נָא יָדְךָ, תַּחַת יְרֵכִי.
Vayomer Avraham, el-avdo zekan beito, hamoshel, bechol-asher-lo: sim-na yadecha, tachat yerechi.
And Abraham said unto his servant, the elder of his house, that ruled over all that he had: 'Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh.
3.
וְאַשְׁבִּיעֲךָ--בַּיהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם, וֵאלֹהֵי הָאָרֶץ: אֲשֶׁר לֹא-תִקַּח אִשָּׁה, לִבְנִי, מִבְּנוֹת הַכְּנַעֲנִי, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי יוֹשֵׁב בְּקִרְבּוֹ.
ve'ashbi'akha bayYHWH Elohei hashamayim, ve'Elohei ha'aretz: asher lo-tiqqah ishah, livni, mibnot hakena'ani, asher anokhi yoshev beqirbo.
And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell.
4.
כִּי אֶל-אַרְצִי וְאֶל-מוֹלַדְתִּי, תֵּלֵךְ; וְלָקַחְתָּ אִשָּׁה, לִבְנִי לְיִצְחָק.
ki el-artzi ve'el-moladti, telech; velakachta ishah, livni leyitzchak.
But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son, even for Isaac.'
5.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו, הָעֶבֶד, אוּלַי לֹא-תֹאבֶה הָאִשָּׁה, לָלֶכֶת אַחֲרַי אֶל-הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת; הֶהָשֵׁב אָשִׁיב אֶת-בִּנְךָ, אֶל-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-יָצָאתָ מִשָּׁם.
Vayomer elav, ha'eved, ulai lo-toveh ha'ishah, lalechet acharai el-ha'aretz hazot; hehashiv ashiv et-bincha, el-ha'aretz asher-yatzata misham.
And the servant said unto him: 'Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land; must I needs bring thy son back unto the land from whence thou camest?'
6.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו, אַבְרָהָם: הִשָּׁמֶר לְךָ, פֶּן-תָּשִׁיב אֶת-בְּנִי שָׁמָּה.
Vayomer elav, Avraham: Hishamer lecha, pen-tashiv et-beni shamma.
And Abraham said unto him: 'Beware thou that thou bring not my son back thither.
7.
יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם, אֲשֶׁר לְקָחַנִי מִבֵּית אָבִי וּמֵאֶרֶץ מוֹלַדְתִּי, וַאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר-לִי וַאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע-לִי לֵאמֹר, לְזַרְעֲךָ אֶתֵּן אֶת-הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת--הוּא, יִשְׁלַח מַלְאָכוֹ לְפָנֶיךָ, וְלָקַחְתָּ אִשָּׁה לִבְנִי, מִשָּׁם.
Adonai Elohei hashamayim, asher lekachani mibeit avi ume'eretz moladti, va'asher diber-li va'asher nishba-li lemor, lezar'acha etten et-ha'aretz hazzot--hu, yishlach mal'acho lefaneicha, velakachta ish
The LORD, the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house, and from the land of my nativity, and who spoke unto me, and who swore unto me, saying: Unto thy seed will I give this land; He will send His angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife for my son from thence.
8.
וְאִם-לֹא תֹאבֶה הָאִשָּׁה, לָלֶכֶת אַחֲרֶיךָ--וְנִקִּיתָ, מִשְּׁבֻעָתִי זֹאת; רַק אֶת-בְּנִי, לֹא תָשֵׁב שָׁמָּה.
ve'im-lo toveh ha'ishah, lalechet achareicha--venikkita, mishvu'ati zot; rak et-beni, lo tashev shammah.
And if the woman be not willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath; only thou shalt not bring my son back thither.'
9.
וַיָּשֶׂם הָעֶבֶד אֶת-יָדוֹ, תַּחַת יֶרֶךְ אַבְרָהָם אֲדֹנָיו; וַיִּשָּׁבַע לוֹ, עַל-הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה.
Vayyasem ha'eved et-yado, tachat yerech Avraham adonav; vayyishava lo, al-haddavar hazzeh.
And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.
10.
וַיִּקַּח הָעֶבֶד עֲשָׂרָה גְמַלִּים מִגְּמַלֵּי אֲדֹנָיו, וַיֵּלֶךְ, וְכָל-טוּב אֲדֹנָיו, בְּיָדוֹ; וַיָּקָם, וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶל-אֲרַם נַהֲרַיִם--אֶל-עִיר נָחוֹר.
Vayikach ha'eved asarah gemalim migemalei adonav, vayelech, vechol-tuv adonav, beyado; vayakam, vayelech el-Aram Naharayim--el-ir Nachor.
And the servant took ten camels, of the camels of his master, and departed; having all goodly things of his master's in his hand; and he arose, and went to Aram-naharaim, unto the city of Nahor.
11.
וַיַּבְרֵךְ הַגְּמַלִּים מִחוּץ לָעִיר, אֶל-בְּאֵר הַמָּיִם, לְעֵת עֶרֶב, לְעֵת צֵאת הַשֹּׁאֲבֹת.
Vayavrech hagemalim michutz la'ir, el-be'er hamayim, le'et erev, le'et tzet hasho'avot.
And he made the camels to kneel down without the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.
12.
וַיֹּאמַר--יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֲדֹנִי אַבְרָהָם, הַקְרֵה-נָא לְפָנַי הַיּוֹם; וַעֲשֵׂה-חֶסֶד, עִם אֲדֹנִי אַבְרָהָם.
Vayomer Adonai Elohei adoni Avraham, hakreh-na lefani hayom; va'aseh-chesed, im adoni Avraham.
And he said: 'O LORD, the God of my master Abraham, send me, I pray Thee, good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham.
13.
הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי נִצָּב, עַל-עֵין הַמָּיִם; וּבְנוֹת אַנְשֵׁי הָעִיר, יֹצְאֹת לִשְׁאֹב מָיִם.
Hineh anochi nitzav, al-ein hamayim; uvenot anshei ha'ir, yotze'ot lish'ov mayim.
Behold, I stand by the fountain of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water.
14.
וְהָיָה הַנַּעֲרָ, אֲשֶׁר אֹמַר אֵלֶיהָ הַטִּי-נָא כַדֵּךְ וְאֶשְׁתֶּה, וְאָמְרָה שְׁתֵה, וְגַם-גְּמַלֶּיךָ אַשְׁקֶה--אֹתָהּ הֹכַחְתָּ, לְעַבְדְּךָ לְיִצְחָק, וּבָהּ אֵדַע, כִּי-עָשִׂיתָ חֶסֶד עִם-אֲדֹנִי.
ve'hayah ha'na'arah, asher omar eleiha hati-na kadech ve'eshteh, ve'amrah sheteh, ve'gam-gemaleicha ashkeh--otah hochachta, le'avdecha le'Yitzchak, u'vah eda, ki-asita chesed im
So let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say: Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say: Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also; let the same be she that Thou hast appointed for Thy servant, even for Isaac; and thereby shall I know that Thou hast shown kindness unto my master.'
15.
וַיְהִי-הוּא, טֶרֶם כִּלָּה לְדַבֵּר, וְהִנֵּה רִבְקָה יֹצֵאת אֲשֶׁר יֻלְּדָה לִבְתוּאֵל בֶּן-מִלְכָּה, אֵשֶׁת נָחוֹר אֲחִי אַבְרָהָם; וְכַדָּהּ, עַל-שִׁכְמָהּ.
vayehi-hu, terem killah ledabber, vehinneh Rivkah yotzet asher yulledah liBetu'el ben-Milkah, eshet Nachor achi Avraham; vechaddah, al-shichmah.
And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
16.
וְהַנַּעֲרָ, טֹבַת מַרְאֶה מְאֹד--בְּתוּלָה, וְאִישׁ לֹא יְדָעָהּ; וַתֵּרֶד הָעַיְנָה, וַתְּמַלֵּא כַדָּהּ וַתָּעַל.
ve'hanna'arah, tovat mar'eh me'od--betulah, ve'ish lo yeda'ah; vatterd ha'aynah, vattemalle khaddah vatt'al.
And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her; and she went down to the fountain, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
17.
וַיָּרָץ הָעֶבֶד, לִקְרָאתָהּ; וַיֹּאמֶר, הַגְמִיאִינִי נָא מְעַט-מַיִם מִכַּדֵּךְ.
Vayaratz ha'eved, likratah; vayomer, hagmi'ini na me'at-mayim mikadech.
And the servant ran to meet her, and said: 'Give me to drink, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher.'
18.
וַתֹּאמֶר, שְׁתֵה אֲדֹנִי; וַתְּמַהֵר, וַתֹּרֶד כַּדָּהּ עַל-יָדָהּ--וַתַּשְׁקֵהוּ.
Vatto'mer, sheteh adoni; vattemaher, vattored kaddah 'al-yadah--vattashkehu.
And she said: 'Drink, my lord'; and she hastened, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19.
וַתְּכַל, לְהַשְׁקֹתוֹ; וַתֹּאמֶר, גַּם לִגְמַלֶּיךָ אֶשְׁאָב, עַד אִם-כִּלּוּ, לִשְׁתֹּת.
vattechal, lehashkoto; vatto'mer, gam ligmalleicha eshav, ad im-killu, lishtot.
And when she had done giving him drink, she said: 'I will draw for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.'
20.
וַתְּמַהֵר, וַתְּעַר כַּדָּהּ אֶל-הַשֹּׁקֶת, וַתָּרָץ עוֹד אֶל-הַבְּאֵר, לִשְׁאֹב; וַתִּשְׁאַב, לְכָל-גְּמַלָּיו.
vattemaher, vatte'ar kaddah el-hashoket, vattaratz od el-habe'er, lish'ov; vattish'av, lechol-gemallav.
And she hastened, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.
21.
וְהָאִישׁ מִשְׁתָּאֵה, לָהּ; מַחֲרִישׁ--לָדַעַת הַהִצְלִיחַ יְהוָה דַּרְכּוֹ, אִם-לֹא.
veha'ish mishta'eh lah, macharish--lada'at hahitzliach Adonai darko, im-lo.
And the man looked stedfastly on her; holding his peace, to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
22.
וַיְהִי, כַּאֲשֶׁר כִּלּוּ הַגְּמַלִּים לִשְׁתּוֹת, וַיִּקַּח הָאִישׁ נֶזֶם זָהָב, בֶּקַע מִשְׁקָלוֹ--וּשְׁנֵי צְמִידִים עַל-יָדֶיהָ, עֲשָׂרָה זָהָב מִשְׁקָלָם.
Vayehi, ka'asher killu hagemallim lishtot, vayikkach ha'ish nezem zahav, beka mishkalo--ushene tzemidim al-yadeha, asarah zahav mishkalam.
And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;
23.
וַיֹּאמֶר בַּת-מִי אַתְּ, הַגִּידִי נָא לִי; הֲיֵשׁ בֵּית-אָבִיךְ מָקוֹם לָנוּ, לָלִין.
Vayomer bat-mi at, hagidi na li; hayesh beit-avich makom lanu, lalin.
and said: 'Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee. Is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?'
24.
וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו, בַּת-בְּתוּאֵל אָנֹכִי--בֶּן-מִלְכָּה, אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה לְנָחוֹר.
vatto'mer elav, bat-Betu'el anokhi--ben-Milkah, asher yaldah leNachor.
And she said unto him: 'I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore unto Nahor.'
25.
וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו, גַּם-תֶּבֶן גַּם-מִסְפּוֹא רַב עִמָּנוּ--גַּם-מָקוֹם, לָלוּן.
vato'mer elav, gam-teven gam-mispo rav immanu--gam-makom, lalun.
She said moreover unto him: 'We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.'
26.
וַיִּקֹּד הָאִישׁ, וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לַיהוָה.
Vayikod ha'ish, vayishtachu la'Adonai.
And the man bowed his head, and prostrated himself before the LORD.
27.
וַיֹּאמֶר, בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֲדֹנִי אַבְרָהָם, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-עָזַב חַסְדּוֹ וַאֲמִתּוֹ, מֵעִם אֲדֹנִי; אָנֹכִי, בַּדֶּרֶךְ נָחַנִי יְהוָה, בֵּית, אֲחֵי אֲדֹנִי.
Vayomer, baruch Adonai Elohei adoni Avraham, asher lo-azav chasdo va'amito, me'im adoni; anochi, baderech nichani Adonai, beit, achei adoni.
And he said: 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who hath not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master; as for me, the LORD hath led me in the way to the house of my master's brethren.'
28.
וַתָּרָץ, הַנַּעֲרָ, וַתַּגֵּד, לְבֵית אִמָּהּ--כַּדְּבָרִים, הָאֵלֶּה.
vataratz, hanna'arah, vattaged, leveit immah--kadevarim, ha'elleh.
And the damsel ran, and told her mother's house according to these words.
29.
וּלְרִבְקָה אָח, וּשְׁמוֹ לָבָן; וַיָּרָץ לָבָן אֶל-הָאִישׁ הַחוּצָה, אֶל-הָעָיִן.
Ulerivkah ach, ushemo Lavan; vayyaratz Lavan el-ha'ish hachutzah, el-ha'ayin.
And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban; and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the fountain.
30.
וַיְהִי כִּרְאֹת אֶת-הַנֶּזֶם, וְאֶת-הַצְּמִדִים עַל-יְדֵי אֲחֹתוֹ, וּכְשָׁמְעוֹ אֶת-דִּבְרֵי רִבְקָה אֲחֹתוֹ לֵאמֹר, כֹּה-דִבֶּר אֵלַי הָאִישׁ; וַיָּבֹא, אֶל-הָאִישׁ, וְהִנֵּה עֹמֵד עַל-הַגְּמַלִּים, עַל-הָעָיִן.
Vayehi kir'ot et-hannezem, ve'et-hatz'midim al-yedei achoto, ukeshom'o et-divrei Rivkah achoto lemor, koh-diber elai ha'ish; vayavo, el-ha'ish, vehinneh omed al-hagemalim, al
And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying: 'Thus spoke the man unto me,' that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the fountain.
31.
וַיֹּאמֶר, בּוֹא בְּרוּךְ יְהוָה; לָמָּה תַעֲמֹד, בַּחוּץ, וְאָנֹכִי פִּנִּיתִי הַבַּיִת, וּמָקוֹם לַגְּמַלִּים.
Vayomer, bo beruch Adonai; lamah ta'amod, bachutz, ve'anochi piniti habayit, umakom lagemalim.
And he said: 'Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; wherefore standest thou without? for I have cleared the house, and made room for the camels.'
32.
וַיָּבֹא הָאִישׁ הַבַּיְתָה, וַיְפַתַּח הַגְּמַלִּים; וַיִּתֵּן תֶּבֶן וּמִסְפּוֹא, לַגְּמַלִּים, וּמַיִם לִרְחֹץ רַגְלָיו, וְרַגְלֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ.
Vayavo ha'ish habayta, vayefattach hagemalim; vayiten teven umispo, lagemalim, umayim lirchots raglav, veraglei ha'anashim asher ito.
And the man came into the house, and he ungirded the camels; and he gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men that were with him.
33.
ויישם וַיּוּשַׂם לְפָנָיו, לֶאֱכֹל, וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אֹכַל, עַד אִם-דִּבַּרְתִּי דְּבָרָי; וַיֹּאמֶר, דַּבֵּר.
Vayusam lefanav, le'echol, vayomer lo ochal, ad im-dibarti devaray; vayomer, daber.
And there was set food before him to eat; but he said: 'I will not eat, until I have told mine errand.' And he said: 'Speak on.'
34.
וַיֹּאמַר: עֶבֶד אַבְרָהָם, אָנֹכִי.
Vayomer: eved Avraham, anochi.
And he said: 'I am Abraham's servant.
35.
וַיהוָה בֵּרַךְ אֶת-אֲדֹנִי, מְאֹד--וַיִּגְדָּל; וַיִּתֶּן-לוֹ צֹאן וּבָקָר, וְכֶסֶף וְזָהָב, וַעֲבָדִם וּשְׁפָחֹת, וּגְמַלִּים וַחֲמֹרִים.
Va'Adonai berakh et-adoni, me'od--vayigdal; vayiten-lo tzon uvaqar, vechesef vezahav, va'avadim ushfahot, vegemalim vahamorim.
And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great; and He hath given him flocks and herds, and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels and asses.
36.
וַתֵּלֶד שָׂרָה אֵשֶׁת אֲדֹנִי בֵן, לַאדֹנִי, אַחֲרֵי, זִקְנָתָהּ; וַיִּתֶּן-לוֹ, אֶת-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר-לוֹ.
Vatteled Sarah eshet adoni ben, la'adoni, acharei, ziknatah; vayitten-lo, et-kol-asher-lo.
And Sarah my master's wife bore a son to my master when she was old; and unto him hath he given all that he hath.
37.
וַיַּשְׁבִּעֵנִי אֲדֹנִי, לֵאמֹר: לֹא-תִקַּח אִשָּׁה, לִבְנִי, מִבְּנוֹת הַכְּנַעֲנִי, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי יֹשֵׁב בְּאַרְצוֹ.
vayashbi'eni Adoni, lemor: lo-tikkach ishah, livni, mibnot hakena'ani, asher anochi yoshev be'artzo.
And my master made me swear, saying: Thou shalt not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell.
38.
אִם-לֹא אֶל-בֵּית-אָבִי תֵּלֵךְ, וְאֶל-מִשְׁפַּחְתִּי; וְלָקַחְתָּ אִשָּׁה, לִבְנִי.
Im-lo el-beit-avi telech, ve'el-mishpachti; velakachta ishah, livni.
But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son.
39.
וָאֹמַר, אֶל-אֲדֹנִי: אֻלַי לֹא-תֵלֵךְ הָאִשָּׁה, אַחֲרָי.
va'omar, el-adoni: ulai lo-telech ha'ishah, acharai.
And I said unto my master: Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
40.
וַיֹּאמֶר, אֵלָי: יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר-הִתְהַלַּכְתִּי לְפָנָיו, יִשְׁלַח מַלְאָכוֹ אִתָּךְ וְהִצְלִיחַ דַּרְכֶּךָ, וְלָקַחְתָּ אִשָּׁה לִבְנִי, מִמִּשְׁפַּחְתִּי וּמִבֵּית אָבִי.
Vayomer elai: Adonai asher-hithallakti lefanav, yishlach mal'acho ittach vehitzliach darkeka, velakachta ishah livni, mimishpachti umibeit avi.
And he said unto me: The LORD, before whom I walk, will send His angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house;
41.
אָז תִּנָּקֶה מֵאָלָתִי, כִּי תָבוֹא אֶל-מִשְׁפַּחְתִּי; וְאִם-לֹא יִתְּנוּ לָךְ, וְהָיִיתָ נָקִי מֵאָלָתִי.
Az tinnakeh me'alati, ki tavo el-mishpachti; ve'im-lo yittenu lach, vehayita naki me'alati.
then shalt thou be clear from my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give her not to thee, thou shalt be clear from my oath.
42.
וָאָבֹא הַיּוֹם, אֶל-הָעָיִן; וָאֹמַר, יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֲדֹנִי אַבְרָהָם, אִם-יֶשְׁךָ-נָּא מַצְלִיחַ דַּרְכִּי, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי הֹלֵךְ עָלֶיהָ.
Va'avo hayom, el-ha'ayin; va'omar, Adonai Elohei adoni Avraham, im-yeshcha-na matliach darki, asher anochi holech aleiha.
And I came this day unto the fountain, and said: O LORD, the God of my master Abraham, if now Thou do prosper my way which I go:
43.
הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי נִצָּב, עַל-עֵין הַמָּיִם; וְהָיָה הָעַלְמָה, הַיֹּצֵאת לִשְׁאֹב, וְאָמַרְתִּי אֵלֶיהָ, הַשְׁקִינִי-נָא מְעַט-מַיִם מִכַּדֵּךְ.
Hineh anochi nitzav, al-ein hamayim; vehayah ha'almah, hayotzet lish'ov, ve'amarti eleiha, hashkini-na me'at-mayim mikadech.
behold, I stand by the fountain of water; and let it come to pass, that the maiden that cometh forth to draw, to whom I shall say: Give me, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher to drink;
44.
וְאָמְרָה אֵלַי גַּם-אַתָּה שְׁתֵה, וְגַם לִגְמַלֶּיךָ אֶשְׁאָב--הִוא הָאִשָּׁה, אֲשֶׁר-הֹכִיחַ יְהוָה לְבֶן-אֲדֹנִי.
ve'amrah elai gam-attah sheteh, vegam ligmallekha eshav--hi ha'ishah, asher-hokhiach YHWH leben-adoni.
and she shall say to me: Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels; let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed for my master's son.
45.
אֲנִי טֶרֶם אֲכַלֶּה לְדַבֵּר אֶל-לִבִּי, וְהִנֵּה רִבְקָה יֹצֵאת וְכַדָּהּ עַל-שִׁכְמָהּ, וַתֵּרֶד הָעַיְנָה, וַתִּשְׁאָב; וָאֹמַר אֵלֶיהָ, הַשְׁקִינִי נָא.
Ani terem ekaleh ledaber el-libi, vehineh Rivkah yotzet vechadah al-shichmah, vatered ha'aynah, vatish'av; va'omar eleiha, hashkini na.
And before I had done speaking to my heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the fountain, and drew. And I said unto her: Let me drink, I pray thee.
46.
וַתְּמַהֵר, וַתּוֹרֶד כַּדָּהּ מֵעָלֶיהָ, וַתֹּאמֶר שְׁתֵה, וְגַם-גְּמַלֶּיךָ אַשְׁקֶה; וָאֵשְׁתְּ, וְגַם הַגְּמַלִּים הִשְׁקָתָה.
Vatemaher, vatored kadah me'aleha, vato'mer sheteh, vegam-gemalecha ashkeh; va'esht, vegam hagemalim hishkatah.
And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said: Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also. So I drank, and she made the camels drink also.
47.
וָאֶשְׁאַל אֹתָהּ, וָאֹמַר בַּת-מִי אַתְּ, וַתֹּאמֶר בַּת-בְּתוּאֵל בֶּן-נָחוֹר, אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה-לּוֹ מִלְכָּה; וָאָשִׂם הַנֶּזֶם עַל-אַפָּהּ, וְהַצְּמִידִים עַל-יָדֶיהָ.
Va'eshal otah, va'omar bat-mi at, vato'mer bat-Betu'el ben-Nachor, asher yaldah-lo Milkah; va'asim hanezem al-apah, vehatzemidim al-yadeha.
And I asked her, and said: Whose daughter art thou? And she said: The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore unto him. And I put the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands.
48.
וָאֶקֹּד וָאֶשְׁתַּחֲוֶה, לַיהוָה; וָאֲבָרֵךְ, אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֲדֹנִי אַבְרָהָם, אֲשֶׁר הִנְחַנִי בְּדֶרֶךְ אֱמֶת, לָקַחַת אֶת-בַּת-אֲחִי אֲדֹנִי לִבְנוֹ.
Va'ekod va'eshtachaveh, l'Adonai; va'avarech, et-Adonai Elohei adoni Avraham, asher hichani b'derech emet, lakachat et-bat-achi adoni libno.
And I bowed my head, and prostrated myself before the LORD, and blessed the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son.
49.
וְעַתָּה אִם-יֶשְׁכֶם עֹשִׂים חֶסֶד וֶאֱמֶת, אֶת-אֲדֹנִי--הַגִּידוּ לִי; וְאִם-לֹא--הַגִּידוּ לִי, וְאֶפְנֶה עַל-יָמִין אוֹ עַל-שְׂמֹאל.
ve'attah im-yeshkem osim chesed ve'emet, et-adoni--haggidu li; ve'im-lo--haggidu li, ve'efneh al-yamin o al-semol.
And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me; and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.'
50.
וַיַּעַן לָבָן וּבְתוּאֵל וַיֹּאמְרוּ, מֵיְהוָה יָצָא הַדָּבָר; לֹא נוּכַל דַּבֵּר אֵלֶיךָ, רַע אוֹ-טוֹב.
Vaya'an Lavan uVetu'el vayomeru, meYHWH yatza hadavar; lo nukhal dabber eilekha, ra o-tov.
Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said: 'The thing proceedeth from the LORD; we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.
51.
הִנֵּה-רִבְקָה לְפָנֶיךָ, קַח וָלֵךְ; וּתְהִי אִשָּׁה לְבֶן-אֲדֹנֶיךָ, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה.
Hineh-Rivkah lefaneicha, kach valeich; utehi ishah leven-adoneicha, ka'asher diber YHWH.
Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master's son's wife, as the LORD hath spoken.'
52.
וַיְהִי, כַּאֲשֶׁר שָׁמַע עֶבֶד אַבְרָהָם אֶת-דִּבְרֵיהֶם; וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ אַרְצָה, לַיהוָה.
Vayehi, ka'asher shama eved Avraham et-divreihem; vayishtachu artzah, la'Adonai.
And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth unto the LORD.
53.
וַיּוֹצֵא הָעֶבֶד כְּלֵי-כֶסֶף וּכְלֵי זָהָב, וּבְגָדִים, וַיִּתֵּן, לְרִבְקָה; וּמִגְדָּנֹת--נָתַן לְאָחִיהָ, וּלְאִמָּהּ.
Vayotze ha'eved kelei-kesef uklei zahav, uvegadim, vayiten, leRivkah; umigdanot--natan le'achih, ule'imah.
And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah; he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.
54.
וַיֹּאכְלוּ וַיִּשְׁתּוּ, הוּא וְהָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר-עִמּוֹ--וַיָּלִינוּ; וַיָּקוּמוּ בַבֹּקֶר, וַיֹּאמֶר שַׁלְּחֻנִי לַאדֹנִי.
vayokhelu vayishtuu, hu veha'anashim asher-imo--vayalinu; vayakumu vaboker, vayomer shallechuni la'adoni.
And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said: 'Send me away unto my master.'
55.
וַיֹּאמֶר אָחִיהָ וְאִמָּהּ, תֵּשֵׁב הַנַּעֲרָ אִתָּנוּ יָמִים אוֹ עָשׂוֹר; אַחַר, תֵּלֵךְ.
Vayomer achiha ve'imah, teshev hanna'arah itanu yamim o asor; achar, telech.
And her brother and her mother said: 'Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.'
56.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם אַל-תְּאַחֲרוּ אֹתִי, וַיהוָה הִצְלִיחַ דַּרְכִּי; שַׁלְּחוּנִי, וְאֵלְכָה לַאדֹנִי.
Vayomer aleihem al-te'acharu oti, va'Adonai hitzliach darki; shalchuni, ve'elechah la'adoni.
And he said unto them: 'Delay me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.'
57.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ, נִקְרָא לַנַּעֲרָ, וְנִשְׁאֲלָה, אֶת-פִּיהָ.
Vayomeru, nikra lana'arah, venish'alah, et-piha.
And they said: 'We will call the damsel, and inquire at her mouth.'
58.
וַיִּקְרְאוּ לְרִבְקָה וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלֶיהָ, הֲתֵלְכִי עִם-הָאִישׁ הַזֶּה; וַתֹּאמֶר, אֵלֵךְ.
Vayikre'u leRivkah vayomeru eleiha, hatelechi im-ha'ish hazeh; vatomer, elech.
And they called Rebekah, and said unto her: 'Wilt thou go with this man?' And she said: 'I will go.'
59.
וַיְשַׁלְּחוּ אֶת-רִבְקָה אֲחֹתָם, וְאֶת-מֵנִקְתָּהּ, וְאֶת-עֶבֶד אַבְרָהָם, וְאֶת-אֲנָשָׁיו.
vayeshalechu et-Rivkah achotam, ve'et-meniktah, ve'et-eved Avraham, ve'et-anashav.
And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.
60.
וַיְבָרְכוּ אֶת-רִבְקָה, וַיֹּאמְרוּ לָהּ--אֲחֹתֵנוּ, אַתְּ הֲיִי לְאַלְפֵי רְבָבָה; וְיִירַשׁ זַרְעֵךְ, אֵת שַׁעַר שֹׂנְאָיו.
Vayevarechu et-Rivkah, vayomeru lah--achotenu, at hayi le'alfei revavah; veyirash zar'ech, et sha'ar sone'av.
And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her: 'Our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let thy seed possess the gate of those that hate them.'
61.
וַתָּקָם רִבְקָה וְנַעֲרֹתֶיהָ, וַתִּרְכַּבְנָה עַל-הַגְּמַלִּים, וַתֵּלַכְנָה, אַחֲרֵי הָאִישׁ; וַיִּקַּח הָעֶבֶד אֶת-רִבְקָה, וַיֵּלַךְ.
Vattakam Rivkah vena'aroteiha, vattirkavnah 'al-hagemalim, vattelachnah, acharei ha'ish; vayikkach ha'eved et-Rivkah, vayelech.
And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man. And the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62.
וְיִצְחָק בָּא מִבּוֹא, בְּאֵר לַחַי רֹאִי; וְהוּא יוֹשֵׁב, בְּאֶרֶץ הַנֶּגֶב.
ve'Yitzchak ba mibo, Be'er Lachai Ro'i; ve'hu yoshev, be'eretz ha'Negev.
And Isaac came from the way of Beer-lahai-roi; for he dwelt in the land of the South.
63.
וַיֵּצֵא יִצְחָק לָשׂוּחַ בַּשָּׂדֶה, לִפְנוֹת עָרֶב; וַיִּשָּׂא עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא, וְהִנֵּה גְמַלִּים בָּאִים.
Vayetze Yitzchak lasuach basadeh, lifnot erev; vayisa einav vayar, vehineh gemalim ba'im.
And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide; and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, there were camels coming.
64.
וַתִּשָּׂא רִבְקָה אֶת-עֵינֶיהָ, וַתֵּרֶא אֶת-יִצְחָק; וַתִּפֹּל, מֵעַל הַגָּמָל.
Vattissa Rivkah et-eineiha, vatter'e et-Yitzchak; vattippol, me'al haggamal.
And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she alighted from the camel.
65.
וַתֹּאמֶר אֶל-הָעֶבֶד, מִי-הָאִישׁ הַלָּזֶה הַהֹלֵךְ בַּשָּׂדֶה לִקְרָאתֵנוּ, וַיֹּאמֶר הָעֶבֶד, הוּא אֲדֹנִי; וַתִּקַּח הַצָּעִיף, וַתִּתְכָּס.
vato'mer el-ha'eved, mi-ha'ish hallazeh haholekh bassadeh liqra'atenu, vayomer ha'eved, hu adoni; vattiqach hatza'if, vattitkas.
And she said unto the servant: 'What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us?' And the servant said: 'It is my master.' And she took her veil, and covered herself.
66.
וַיְסַפֵּר הָעֶבֶד, לְיִצְחָק, אֵת כָּל-הַדְּבָרִים, אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה.
vayesaper ha'eved, leyitzchak, et kol-hadevarim, asher asah.
And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.
67.
וַיְבִאֶהָ יִצְחָק, הָאֹהֱלָה שָׂרָה אִמּוֹ, וַיִּקַּח אֶת-רִבְקָה וַתְּהִי-לוֹ לְאִשָּׁה, וַיֶּאֱהָבֶהָ; וַיִּנָּחֵם יִצְחָק, אַחֲרֵי אִמּוֹ.
Vayavi'eha Yitzchak, ha'ohelah Sarah imo, vayikach et-Rivkah vatehi-lo le'ishah, vaye'ahaveha; vayinnachem Yitzchak, acharei imo.
And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her. And Isaac was comforted for his mother.
