וַיְהִי כָל-הָאָרֶץ, שָׂפָה אֶחָת, וּדְבָרִים, אֲחָדִים.
vayhi chol-ha'aretz, safah achat, u'dvarim, achadim.
And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

וַיְהִי, בְּנָסְעָם מִקֶּדֶם; וַיִּמְצְאוּ בִקְעָה בְּאֶרֶץ שִׁנְעָר, וַיֵּשְׁבוּ שָׁם.
vayhi benas'am mikedem vayimtse'u bik'ah be'erets shinar vayeshevu sham
And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אִישׁ אֶל-רֵעֵהוּ, הָבָה נִלְבְּנָה לְבֵנִים, וְנִשְׂרְפָה, לִשְׂרֵפָה; וַתְּהִי לָהֶם הַלְּבֵנָה, לְאָבֶן, וְהַחֵמָר, הָיָה לָהֶם לַחֹמֶר.
vayomeru ish el-re'ehu, hava nilbena levanim, venisrefah, lisrefah; vatehi lahem halevenah, le'even, vehachemar, hayah lahem lachomer.
And they said one to another: 'Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly.' And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

וַיֹּאמְרוּ הָבָה נִבְנֶה-לָּנוּ עִיר, וּמִגְדָּל וְרֹאשׁוֹ בַשָּׁמַיִם, וְנַעֲשֶׂה-לָּנוּ, שֵׁם: פֶּן-נָפוּץ, עַל-פְּנֵי כָל-הָאָרֶץ.
vayomeru hava nivneh-lanu ir, umigdal verosho vashamayim, vana'aseh-lanu, shem: pen-naputs, al-penei khol-ha'aretz.
And they said: 'Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, with its top in heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.'
5.
וַיֵּרֶד יְהוָה, לִרְאֹת אֶת-הָעִיר וְאֶת-הַמִּגְדָּל, אֲשֶׁר בָּנוּ, בְּנֵי הָאָדָם.
Vayered YHWH, lir'ot et-ha'ir ve'et-hamigdalt, asher banu, bene ha'adam.
And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה, הֵן עַם אֶחָד וְשָׂפָה אַחַת לְכֻלָּם, וְזֶה, הַחִלָּם לַעֲשׂוֹת; וְעַתָּה לֹא-יִבָּצֵר מֵהֶם, כֹּל אֲשֶׁר יָזְמוּ לַעֲשׂוֹת.
vayomer YHWH, hen am echad vesafah achat lechulam, vezeh, hachilam la'asot; ve'atah lo-yivatzer mehem, kol asher yazumu la'asot.
And the LORD said: 'Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do; and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do.
7.
הָבָה, נֵרְדָה, וְנָבְלָה שָׁם, שְׂפָתָם--אֲשֶׁר לֹא יִשְׁמְעוּ, אִישׁ שְׂפַת רֵעֵהוּ.
havah neredah venavlah sham sefatam asher lo yishme'u ish sefat re'ehu
Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.'
8.
וַיָּפֶץ יְהוָה אֹתָם מִשָּׁם, עַל-פְּנֵי כָל-הָאָרֶץ; וַיַּחְדְּלוּ, לִבְנֹת הָעִיר.
vayafets YHWH otam misham, al-penei khol-ha'aretz; vayakhdelu, livnot ha'ir.
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city.
9.
עַל-כֵּן קָרָא שְׁמָהּ, בָּבֶל, כִּי-שָׁם בָּלַל יְהוָה, שְׂפַת כָּל-הָאָרֶץ; וּמִשָּׁם הֱפִיצָם יְהוָה, עַל-פְּנֵי כָּל-הָאָרֶץ.
al-ken qara shemah Bavel, ki-sham balal YHWH, sefat kol-ha'aretz; u-misham hefitsam YHWH, al-penei kol-ha'aretz.
Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10.
אֵלֶּה, תּוֹלְדֹת שֵׁם--שֵׁם בֶּן-מְאַת שָׁנָה, וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת-אַרְפַּכְשָׁד: שְׁנָתַיִם, אַחַר הַמַּבּוּל.
e'elleh toledot shem shem ben me'at shanah vayyoled et arpakhshad shenatayim achar hammabbul
These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arpachshad two years after the flood.
11.
וַיְחִי-שֵׁם, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-אַרְפַּכְשָׁד, חֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹת, שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi-shem, acharei holido et-arpachshad, chamesh me'ot, shanah; vayoled banim, uvanot.
And Shem lived after he begot Arpachshad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
12.
וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁד חַי, חָמֵשׁ וּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-שָׁלַח.
ve'arpachshad chai, chamesh usheloshim shanah; vayyoled, et-shalach.
And Arpachshad lived five and thirty years, and begot Shelah.
13.
וַיְחִי אַרְפַּכְשַׁד, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-שֶׁלַח, שָׁלֹשׁ שָׁנִים, וְאַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi Arpachshad, acharei holido et-Shelach, shalosh shanim, ve'arba me'ot shanah; vayyoled banim, uvanot.
And Arpachshad lived after he begot Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
14.
וְשֶׁלַח חַי, שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-עֵבֶר.
ve'shelach chay, sheloshim shanah; vayyoled, et-eber.
And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
15.
וַיְחִי-שֶׁלַח, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-עֵבֶר, שָׁלֹשׁ שָׁנִים, וְאַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi-shelach, acharei holido et-ever, shalosh shanim, ve'arba me'ot shanah; vayyoled banim, uvanot.
And Shelah lived after he begot Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
16.
וַיְחִי-עֵבֶר, אַרְבַּע וּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-פָּלֶג.
vaychi-'ever, arba' u'sheloshim shanah; ve'yoled, et-peleg.
And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begot Peleg.
17.
וַיְחִי-עֵבֶר, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-פֶּלֶג, שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה, וְאַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi-ever, acharei holido et-peleg, sheloshim shanah, ve'arba me'ot shanah; vayoled banim, uvanot.
And Eber lived after he begot Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.
18.
וַיְחִי-פֶלֶג, שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-רְעוּ.
vaychi-peleg, sheloshim shanah; vayyoled, et-re'u.
And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
19.
וַיְחִי-פֶלֶג, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-רְעוּ, תֵּשַׁע שָׁנִים, וּמָאתַיִם שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi-peleg, acharei holido et-re'u, tesa shanim, umatayim shana; vayyoled banim, uvanot.
And Peleg lived after he begot Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
20.
וַיְחִי רְעוּ, שְׁתַּיִם וּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-שְׂרוּג.
vaychi Re'u, shetayim ushloshim shanah; vayyoled, et-Serug.
And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begot Serug.
21.
וַיְחִי רְעוּ, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-שְׂרוּג, שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים, וּמָאתַיִם שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi re'u, acharei holido et-serug, sheva shanim, umatayim shanah; vayoled banim, ubanot.
And Reu lived after he begot Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
22.
וַיְחִי שְׂרוּג, שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-נָחוֹר.
vaychi Serug, sheloshim shanah; vayyoled, et-Nachor.
And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
23.
וַיְחִי שְׂרוּג, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-נָחוֹר--מָאתַיִם שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi serug, acharei holido et-nachor--matayim shanah; vayuoled banim, uvanot.
And Serug lived after he begot Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
24.
וַיְחִי נָחוֹר, תֵּשַׁע וְעֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-תָּרַח.
vaychi Nachor, tesa ve'esrim shanah; veyoled, et-Terach.
And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begot Terah.
25.
וַיְחִי נָחוֹר, אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת-תֶּרַח, תְּשַׁע-עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה, וּמְאַת שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים, וּבָנוֹת.
vaychi Nachor, acharei holido et-Terach, tsea-esreh shanah, ume'at shanah; vayuoled banim, ubanot.
And Nahor lived after he begot Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.
26.
וַיְחִי-תֶרַח, שִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה; וַיּוֹלֶד, אֶת-אַבְרָם, אֶת-נָחוֹר, וְאֶת-הָרָן.
vaychi-terach, shivim shanah; vayoled, et-Avram, et-Nachor, ve'et-Haran.
And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27.
וְאֵלֶּה, תּוֹלְדֹת תֶּרַח--תֶּרַח הוֹלִיד אֶת-אַבְרָם, אֶת-נָחוֹר וְאֶת-הָרָן; וְהָרָן, הוֹלִיד אֶת-לוֹט.
ve'elleh toledot terach terach holid et avram et nachor ve'et haran veharan holid et lot
Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.
28.
וַיָּמָת הָרָן, עַל-פְּנֵי תֶּרַח אָבִיו, בְּאֶרֶץ מוֹלַדְתּוֹ, בְּאוּר כַּשְׂדִּים.
vayamat haran, al-penei terach aviv, be'eretz moladto, be'ur kasdim.
And Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29.
וַיִּקַּח אַבְרָם וְנָחוֹר לָהֶם, נָשִׁים: שֵׁם אֵשֶׁת-אַבְרָם, שָׂרָי, וְשֵׁם אֵשֶׁת-נָחוֹר מִלְכָּה, בַּת-הָרָן אֲבִי-מִלְכָּה וַאֲבִי יִסְכָּה.
vayikach Avram veNachor lahem, nashim: shem eshet-Avram, Saray, ve'shem eshet-Nachor Milkah, bat-Haran avi-Milkah va'avi Yiskah.
And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30.
וַתְּהִי שָׂרַי, עֲקָרָה: אֵין לָהּ, וָלָד.
vat'hi sarai, akarah: ein lah, valad.
And Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31.
וַיִּקַּח תֶּרַח אֶת-אַבְרָם בְּנוֹ, וְאֶת-לוֹט בֶּן-הָרָן בֶּן-בְּנוֹ, וְאֵת שָׂרַי כַּלָּתוֹ, אֵשֶׁת אַבְרָם בְּנוֹ; וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתָּם מֵאוּר כַּשְׂדִּים, לָלֶכֶת אַרְצָה כְּנַעַן, וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד-חָרָן, וַיֵּשְׁבוּ שָׁם.
vayikach Terach et-Avram beno, ve'et-Lot ben-Haran ben-beno, ve'et Saray kalahan, eshet Avram beno; vayetze'u itam me'ur Kasdim, lalethet artza Kena'an, vayabo'u ad-Haran, vayeshe
And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32.
וַיִּהְיוּ יְמֵי-תֶרַח, חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וּמָאתַיִם שָׁנָה; וַיָּמָת תֶּרַח, בְּחָרָן.
vayihyu yemey-terach, hamesh shanim uma'atyim shanah; vayamot terach, beharan.
And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.
