וַיְהִי בַּשָּׁנָה הַשְּׁבִיעִית, בַּחֲמִשִׁי בֶּעָשׂוֹר לַחֹדֶשׁ, בָּאוּ אֲנָשִׁים מִזִּקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, לִדְרֹשׁ אֶת-יְהוָה; וַיֵּשְׁבוּ, לְפָנָי.
vayehi bashanah hashvi'it, bachamishi be'asor lachodesh, ba'u anashim mizziknei Yisrael, lidrosh et-YHWH; vayeshevu, lefanay.
And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.
2.
וַיְהִי דְבַר-יְהוָה, אֵלַי לֵאמֹר.
vayehi devar-YHWH, elay lemor.
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

בֶּן-אָדָם, דַּבֵּר אֶת-זִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵהֶם כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, הֲלִדְרֹשׁ אֹתִי, אַתֶּם בָּאִים: חַי-אָנִי אִם-אִדָּרֵשׁ לָכֶם, נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה.
ben-adam, dabber et-ziknei Yisrael ve'amarta alehem koh amar Adonai YHWH, halidrosh oti, attem ba'im: chai-ani im-iddaresh lakhem, neum Adonai YHWH.
'Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them: Thus saith the Lord GOD: Are ye come to inquire of Me? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.
4.
הֲתִשְׁפֹּט אֹתָם, הֲתִשְׁפּוֹט בֶּן-אָדָם: אֶת-תּוֹעֲבֹת אֲבוֹתָם, הוֹדִיעֵם.
Hathishpot otam, hathishpot ben-adam? Et-to'avot avotam hodie'm.
Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers;
5.
וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם, כֹּה-אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, בְּיוֹם בָּחֳרִי בְיִשְׂרָאֵל, וָאֶשָּׂא יָדִי לְזֶרַע בֵּית יַעֲקֹב וָאִוָּדַע לָהֶם בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; וָאֶשָּׂא יָדִי לָהֶם לֵאמֹר, אֲנִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.
Ve'amarta alehem, koh-amar Adonai YHWH, beyom bakhori veYisrael, va'essa yadi lezera beit Ya'akov va'ivvada lahem be'eretz Mitzrayim; va'essa yadi lahem lemor, ani YHWH Elohekhem.
and say unto them: Thus saith the Lord GOD: In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up My hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made Myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up My hand unto them, saying: I am the LORD your God;
6.
בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא, נָשָׂאתִי יָדִי לָהֶם, לְהוֹצִיאָם, מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם: אֶל-אֶרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-תַּרְתִּי לָהֶם, זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ--צְבִי הִיא, לְכָל-הָאֲרָצוֹת.
Bayom hahu, nasati yadi lahem, lehotsiam, me'eretz Mitzrayim: el-eretz asher-tarti lahem, zavat khalav udevash--tzevi hi, lekhol-ha'aratzot.
in that day I lifted up My hand unto them, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had sought out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the beauty of all lands;
7.
וָאֹמַר אֲלֵהֶם, אִישׁ שִׁקּוּצֵי עֵינָיו הַשְׁלִיכוּ, וּבְגִלּוּלֵי מִצְרַיִם, אַל-תִּטַּמָּאוּ: אֲנִי, יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.
Va'omar alehem, ish shikkutzei einav hashlikhu, uvegillulei Mitzrayim, al-tittamau: ani, YHWH Elohekhem.
and I said unto them: Cast ye away every man the detestable things of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.
8.
וַיַּמְרוּ-בִי, וְלֹא אָבוּ לִשְׁמֹעַ אֵלַי--אִישׁ אֶת-שִׁקּוּצֵי עֵינֵיהֶם לֹא הִשְׁלִיכוּ, וְאֶת-גִּלּוּלֵי מִצְרַיִם לֹא עָזָבוּ; וָאֹמַר לִשְׁפֹּךְ חֲמָתִי עֲלֵיהֶם, לְכַלּוֹת אַפִּי בָּהֶם, בְּתוֹךְ, אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vayamru-vi, velo avu lishmo'a elay--ish et-shikkutzei einehem lo hishlichu, ve'et-gillulei Mitzrayim lo azavu; va'omar lishpoch chamati alehem, lekhallot api bahem, betokh, eretz Mitzrayim.
But they rebelled against Me, and would not hearken unto Me; they did not every man cast away the detestable things of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt; then I said I would pour out My fury upon them, to spend My anger upon them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
9.
וָאַעַשׂ לְמַעַן שְׁמִי, לְבִלְתִּי הֵחֵל לְעֵינֵי הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר-הֵמָּה בְתוֹכָם--אֲשֶׁר נוֹדַעְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶם לְעֵינֵיהֶם, לְהוֹצִיאָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
va'as-lema'an shemi, levilti hechel le'enei hagoyim asher-hemah vetokham--asher noda'ti alehem le'enehem, lehotziam me'eretz Mitzrayim.
But I wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among whom they were, in whose sight I made Myself known unto them, so as to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt.
10.
וָאוֹצִיאֵם, מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; וָאֲבִאֵם, אֶל-הַמִּדְבָּר.
va'otzi'am, me'eretz Mitzrayim; va'avi'am, el-hamidbar.
So I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
11.
וָאֶתֵּן לָהֶם אֶת-חֻקּוֹתַי, וְאֶת-מִשְׁפָּטַי הוֹדַעְתִּי אוֹתָם: אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה אוֹתָם הָאָדָם, וָחַי בָּהֶם.
va'eten lahem et-chukkotay, ve'et-mishpatay hoda'ti otam: asher ya'aseh otam ha'adam, vachay bahem.
And I gave them My statutes, and taught them Mine ordinances, which if a man do, he shall live by them.
12.
וְגַם אֶת-שַׁבְּתוֹתַי, נָתַתִּי לָהֶם, לִהְיוֹת לְאוֹת, בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵיהֶם--לָדַעַת, כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָה מְקַדְּשָׁם.
ve'gam et-shabbototay natatti lahem lihyot le'ot beyni uve'heyhem lada'at ki ani YHWH mekaddesham.
Moreover also I gave them My sabbaths, to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
13.
וַיַּמְרוּ-בִי בֵית-יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּמִּדְבָּר, בְּחֻקּוֹתַי לֹא-הָלָכוּ וְאֶת-מִשְׁפָּטַי מָאָסוּ אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה אֹתָם הָאָדָם וָחַי בָּהֶם, וְאֶת-שַׁבְּתֹתַי, חִלְּלוּ מְאֹד; וָאֹמַר לִשְׁפֹּךְ חֲמָתִי עֲלֵיהֶם, בַּמִּדְבָּר--לְכַלּוֹתָם.
vayyamru-vi veyt-Yisrael bamidbar behukkotay lo-halakhu ve'et-mishpatay ma'asu asher ya'aseh otam ha'adam vakhay bahem ve'et-shabbototay khillulu me'od va'omar lishpokh khamati aleyhem bamidbar lekallotam.
But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they walked not in My statutes, and they rejected Mine ordinances, which if a man do, he shall live by them, and My sabbaths they greatly profaned; then I said I would pour out My fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
14.
וָאֶעֱשֶׂה, לְמַעַן שְׁמִי, לְבִלְתִּי הֵחֵל לְעֵינֵי הַגּוֹיִם, אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתִים לְעֵינֵיהֶם.
va'a'eseh lema'an shemi levilti hekhel le'eynei haggoyim asher hotse'itim le'eyneihem.
But I wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.
15.
וְגַם-אֲנִי, נָשָׂאתִי יָדִי לָהֶם--בַּמִּדְבָּר: לְבִלְתִּי הָבִיא אוֹתָם אֶל-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-נָתַתִּי, זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ--צְבִי הִיא, לְכָל-הָאֲרָצוֹת.
ve'gam-ani nasati yadi lahem bamidbar levilti havi otam el-ha'aretz asher-natatti zavat khalav udevash tzevi hi lekhol-ha'aratzot.
Yet also I lifted up My hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the beauty of all lands;
16.
יַעַן בְּמִשְׁפָּטַי מָאָסוּ, וְאֶת-חֻקּוֹתַי לֹא-הָלְכוּ בָהֶם, וְאֶת-שַׁבְּתוֹתַי, חִלֵּלוּ: כִּי אַחֲרֵי גִלּוּלֵיהֶם, לִבָּם הֹלֵךְ.
ya'an bemishpatay ma'asu, ve'et-hukkotay lo-halekhu vahem, ve'et-shabbotay, khillelu: ki akharei gilluleihem, libbam holekh.
because they rejected Mine ordinances, and walked not in My statutes, and profaned My sabbaths--for their heart went after their idols.
17.
וַתָּחָס עֵינִי עֲלֵיהֶם, מִשַּׁחֲתָם; וְלֹא-עָשִׂיתִי אוֹתָם כָּלָה, בַּמִּדְבָּר.
vattakhas eini aleihem, mishakhatam; ve'lo-asiti otam kalah, bamidbar.
Nevertheless Mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make a full end of them in the wilderness.
18.
וָאֹמַר אֶל-בְּנֵיהֶם, בַּמִּדְבָּר, בְּחוּקֵּי אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם אַל-תֵּלֵכוּ, וְאֶת-מִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶם אַל-תִּשְׁמֹרוּ; וּבְגִלּוּלֵיהֶם, אַל-תִּטַּמָּאוּ.
va'omar el-beneihem, bamidbar, bekHukkei avoteikhem al-telekhu, ve'et-mishpeteihem al-tishmoru; uvegilluleihem, al-tittammu.
And I said unto their children in the wilderness: Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols;
19.
אֲנִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם, בְּחֻקּוֹתַי לֵכוּ; וְאֶת-מִשְׁפָּטַי שִׁמְרוּ, וַעֲשׂוּ אוֹתָם.
ani YHWH eloheikhem, behukkotay lekhu; ve'et-mishpatay shimru, va'asu otam.
I am the LORD your God; walk in My statutes, and keep Mine ordinances, and do them;
20.
וְאֶת-שַׁבְּתוֹתַי, קַדֵּשׁוּ; וְהָיוּ לְאוֹת, בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵיכֶם--לָדַעַת, כִּי אֲנִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.
ve'et-shabbototay, kaddeshu; vehayu le'ot, beyni uveyneykhem--lada'at, ki ani YHWH Eloheykem.
and hallow My sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.
21.
וַיַּמְרוּ-בִי הַבָּנִים, בְּחֻקּוֹתַי לֹא-הָלָכוּ וְאֶת-מִשְׁפָּטַי לֹא-שָׁמְרוּ לַעֲשׂוֹת אוֹתָם אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה אוֹתָם הָאָדָם וָחַי בָּהֶם--אֶת-שַׁבְּתוֹתַי, חִלֵּלוּ; וָאֹמַר לִשְׁפֹּךְ חֲמָתִי עֲלֵיהֶם, לְכַלּוֹת אַפִּי בָּם--בַּמִּדְבָּר.
vayyamru-vi habbanim, bekhukkotay lo-halakhu ve'et-mishpatay lo-shamru la'asot otam asher ya'aseh otam ha'adam vakhay bahem--et-shabbototay, khillelu; va'omar lishpokh khamati aleyhem, lekhalot appi bam--bammidbar.
But the children rebelled against Me; they walked not in My statutes, neither kept Mine ordinances to do them, which if a man do, he shall live by them; they profaned My sabbaths; then I said I would pour out My fury upon them, to spend My anger upon them in the wilderness.
22.
וַהֲשִׁבֹתִי, אֶת-יָדִי, וָאַעַשׂ, לְמַעַן שְׁמִי--לְבִלְתִּי הֵחֵל לְעֵינֵי הַגּוֹיִם, אֲשֶׁר-הוֹצֵאתִי אוֹתָם לְעֵינֵיהֶם.
vahashevi, et-yadi, va'as, lema'an shmi--levilti hekhel le'eyney haggoyim, asher-hotzeti otam le'eyneyhem.
Nevertheless I withdrew My hand, and wrought for My name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.
23.
גַּם-אֲנִי, נָשָׂאתִי אֶת-יָדִי לָהֶם--בַּמִּדְבָּר: לְהָפִיץ אֹתָם בַּגּוֹיִם, וּלְזָרוֹת אוֹתָם בָּאֲרָצוֹת.
gam-ani, nasati et-yadi lahem--bammidbar: lehapitz otam haggoyim, ulezarot otam ba'aratzot.
I lifted up My hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries;
24.
יַעַן מִשְׁפָּטַי לֹא-עָשׂוּ, וְחֻקּוֹתַי מָאָסוּ, וְאֶת-שַׁבְּתוֹתַי, חִלֵּלוּ; וְאַחֲרֵי גִּלּוּלֵי אֲבוֹתָם, הָיוּ עֵינֵיהֶם.
ya'an mishpatay lo-'asu, ve-chukkotay ma'asu, ve'et-shabbetotay, chillelu; ve'acharei gillulei avotam, hayu eineihem.
because they had not executed Mine ordinances, but had rejected My statutes, and had profaned My sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.
25.
וְגַם-אֲנִי נָתַתִּי לָהֶם, חֻקִּים לֹא טוֹבִים; וּמִשְׁפָּטִים--לֹא יִחְיוּ, בָּהֶם.
vegam-'ani natatti lahem, chukkim lo tovim; umishpatim--lo yichyu, bahem.
Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and ordinances whereby they should not live;
26.
וָאֲטַמֵּא אוֹתָם בְּמַתְּנוֹתָם, בְּהַעֲבִיר כָּל-פֶּטֶר רָחַם: לְמַעַן אֲשִׁמֵּם--לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר יֵדְעוּ, אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי יְהוָה.
va'atamme' otam bematnotam, beha'avir kol-peter racham: lema'an ashimem--lema'an asher yede'u, asher ani YHWH.
and I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they set apart all that openeth the womb, that I might destroy them, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.
27.
לָכֵן דַּבֵּר אֶל-בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל, בֶּן-אָדָם, וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם, כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה: עוֹד, זֹאת גִּדְּפוּ אוֹתִי אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם, בְּמַעֲלָם בִּי, מָעַל.
lachen dabber el-beit Yisrael, ben-'adam, ve'amarta aleihem, koh amar Adonai YHWH: od, zot giddefu oti avoteichem, bema'alam bi, ma'al.
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them: Thus saith the Lord GOD: In this moreover have your fathers blasphemed Me, in that they dealt treacherously with Me.
28.
וָאֲבִיאֵם, אֶל-הָאָרֶץ, אֲשֶׁר נָשָׂאתִי אֶת-יָדִי, לָתֵת אוֹתָהּ לָהֶם; וַיִּרְאוּ כָל-גִּבְעָה רָמָה וְכָל-עֵץ עָבֹת, וַיִּזְבְּחוּ-שָׁם אֶת-זִבְחֵיהֶם וַיִּתְּנוּ-שָׁם כַּעַס קָרְבָּנָם, וַיָּשִׂימוּ שָׁם רֵיחַ נִיחוֹחֵיהֶם, וַיַּסִּיכוּ שָׁם אֶת-נִסְכֵּיהֶם.
va'avi'em, el-ha'aretz, asher nasati et-yadi, latet otah lahem; vayir'u khol-giv'ah ramah vekhol-etz avot, vayizbehu-sham et-zivheihem vayittenu-sham ka'as korbanam, vayasimu sham re'iah nikhoheihem, vayasiku sham et-niskeihem.
For when I had brought them into the land, which I lifted up My hand to give unto them, then they saw every high hill, and every thick tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering, there also they made their sweet savour, and there they poured out their drink-offerings.
29.
וָאֹמַר אֲלֵהֶם--מָה הַבָּמָה, אֲשֶׁר-אַתֶּם הַבָּאִים שָׁם; וַיִּקָּרֵא שְׁמָהּ בָּמָה, עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה.
va'omer alehem--mah habamah, asher-atem haba'im sham; vayikarei shemah bamah, ad hayom hazeh.
Then I said unto them: What meaneth the high place whereunto ye go? So the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day.
30.
לָכֵן אֱמֹר אֶל-בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל, כֹּה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, הַבְּדֶרֶךְ אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם, אַתֶּם נִטְמְאִים; וְאַחֲרֵי שִׁקּוּצֵיהֶם, אַתֶּם זֹנִים.
lakhen emor el-beit Yisrael, koh amar Adonai YHWH, habederekh avoteikhem, attem nitme'im; ve'akharei shikutzeihem, attem zonim.
Wherefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord GOD: When ye pollute yourselves after the manner of your fathers, and go after their abominations,
31.
וּבִשְׂאֵת מַתְּנֹתֵיכֶם בְּהַעֲבִיר בְּנֵיכֶם בָּאֵשׁ אַתֶּם נִטְמְאִים לְכָל-גִּלּוּלֵיכֶם, עַד-הַיּוֹם, וַאֲנִי אִדָּרֵשׁ לָכֶם, בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל: חַי-אָנִי, נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, אִם-אִדָּרֵשׁ, לָכֶם.
uvis'et matnotekhem beha'avir beneikhem ba'esh attem nitme'im lekhol-giluleikhem, ad-hayom, va'ani idaresh lakhem, beit Yisrael: khai-ani, neum Adonai YHWH, im-idaresh, lakhem.
and when, in offering your gifts, in making your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, unto this day; shall I then be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you;
32.
וְהָעֹלָה, עַל-רוּחֲכֶם--הָיוֹ, לֹא תִהְיֶה: אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם אֹמְרִים, נִהְיֶה כַגּוֹיִם כְּמִשְׁפְּחוֹת הָאֲרָצוֹת--לְשָׁרֵת, עֵץ וָאָבֶן.
veha'olah 'al-rukhakhem hayo lo tihyeh asher athem omerim niyeh kaggoyim kemishpekhot ha'aratsot lesharet ets va'aven.
and that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all; in that ye say: We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
33.
חַי-אָנִי, נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה: אִם-לֹא בְּיָד חֲזָקָה וּבִזְרוֹעַ נְטוּיָה, וּבְחֵמָה שְׁפוּכָה--אֶמְלוֹךְ עֲלֵיכֶם.
khay-ani neum Adonai YHWH im-lo beyad khazaqah uvizro'a netuyah uvekhemah shefukhah emlok 'alekhem.
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, will I be king over you;
34.
וְהוֹצֵאתִי אֶתְכֶם, מִן-הָעַמִּים, וְקִבַּצְתִּי אֶתְכֶם, מִן-הָאֲרָצוֹת אֲשֶׁר נְפוֹצֹתֶם בָּם--בְּיָד חֲזָקָה וּבִזְרוֹעַ נְטוּיָה, וּבְחֵמָה שְׁפוּכָה.
vehotse'oti etkhem min-ha'amim veqibbatsti etkhem min-ha'aratsot asher nefotsotem bam beyad khazaqah uvizro'a netuyah uvekhemah shefukhah.
and I will bring you out from the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out;
35.
וְהֵבֵאתִי אֶתְכֶם, אֶל-מִדְבַּר הָעַמִּים; וְנִשְׁפַּטְתִּי אִתְּכֶם שָׁם, פָּנִים אֶל-פָּנִים.
veheve'oti etkhem el-midbar ha'amim venishpati itkhem sham panim el-panim.
and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I plead with you face to face.
36.
כַּאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁפַּטְתִּי אֶת-אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם, בְּמִדְבַּר אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם--כֵּן אִשָּׁפֵט אִתְּכֶם, נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה.
ka'asher nishpatti et-avoteikhem, bemidbar eretz Mitzrayim--ken ish afet itkhem, neum Adonai YHWH.
Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.
37.
וְהַעֲבַרְתִּי אֶתְכֶם, תַּחַת הַשָּׁבֶט; וְהֵבֵאתִי אֶתְכֶם, בְּמָסֹרֶת הַבְּרִית.
veha'avartii etxkhem, takhat hashavet; vehevetii etxkhem, bemasoret habrit.
And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant;
38.
וּבָרוֹתִי מִכֶּם, הַמֹּרְדִים וְהַפּוֹשְׁעִים בִּי--מֵאֶרֶץ מְגוּרֵיהֶם אוֹצִיא אוֹתָם, וְאֶל-אַדְמַת יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא יָבוֹא; וִידַעְתֶּם, כִּי-אֲנִי יְהוָה.
uvarotii mikhem, hamordim vehaposh'im bi--me'eretz megureihem otzii otam, ve'el-admat Yisrael lo yavo; vide'atem, ki-ani YHWH.
and I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against Me; I will bring them forth out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
39.
וְאַתֶּם בֵּית-יִשְׂרָאֵל כֹּה-אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, אִישׁ גִּלּוּלָיו לְכוּ עֲבֹדוּ, וְאַחַר, אִם-אֵינְכֶם שֹׁמְעִים אֵלָי; וְאֶת-שֵׁם קָדְשִׁי לֹא תְחַלְּלוּ-עוֹד, בְּמַתְּנוֹתֵיכֶם וּבְגִלּוּלֵיכֶם.
ve'atem beit-Yisrael koh-amar Adonai YHWH, ish gillulaiy lekhu avodu, ve'akhar, im-ein'khem shom'im elai; ve'et-shem kodshi lo tekhal'lu-od, bemat'notekhem uvigilulaiykhem.
As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD: Go ye, serve every one his idols, even because ye will not hearken unto Me; but My holy name shall ye no more profane with your gifts, and with your idols.
40.
כִּי בְהַר-קָדְשִׁי בְּהַר מְרוֹם יִשְׂרָאֵל, נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה--שָׁם יַעַבְדֻנִי כָּל-בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל כֻּלֹּה, בָּאָרֶץ: שָׁם אֶרְצֵם--וְשָׁם אֶדְרוֹשׁ אֶת-תְּרוּמֹתֵיכֶם וְאֶת-רֵאשִׁית מַשְׂאוֹתֵיכֶם, בְּכָל-קָדְשֵׁיכֶם.
Ki vehar-qadshi behar merom Yisrael, neum Adonai YHWH—sham yaavduni kol-beit Yisrael kuloh, baaretz: sham ertzem—vesham edrosh et-terumoteikhem veet-reshit maswoteikhem, bekhol-qadsheikhem.
For in My holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them, serve Me in the land; there will I accept them, and there will I require your heave-offerings, and the first of your gifts, with all your holy things.
41.
בְּרֵיחַ נִיחֹחַ, אֶרְצֶה אֶתְכֶם, בְּהוֹצִיאִי אֶתְכֶם מִן-הָעַמִּים, וְקִבַּצְתִּי אֶתְכֶם מִן-הָאֲרָצוֹת אֲשֶׁר נְפֹצֹתֶם בָּם; וְנִקְדַּשְׁתִּי בָכֶם, לְעֵינֵי הַגּוֹיִם.
Bereakh nikhokha, ertse etkhem, behotsi-i etkhem min-haammim, veqibatsiti etkhem min-haaratsot asher nefotsotem bam; veniqdashti vakhem, leenei haggoyim.
With your sweet savour will I accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations.
42.
וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי-אֲנִי יְהוָה, בַּהֲבִיאִי אֶתְכֶם אֶל-אַדְמַת יִשְׂרָאֵל--אֶל-הָאָרֶץ, אֲשֶׁר נָשָׂאתִי אֶת-יָדִי, לָתֵת אוֹתָהּ, לַאֲבוֹתֵיכֶם.
Videatem ki-ani YHWH, bahvi-i etkhem el-admat Yisrael—el-haaretz, asher nasati et-yadi, latet otah, laavoteikhem.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country which I lifted up My hand to give unto your fathers.
43.
וּזְכַרְתֶּם-שָׁם, אֶת-דַּרְכֵיכֶם וְאֵת כָּל-עֲלִילוֹתֵיכֶם, אֲשֶׁר נִטְמֵאתֶם, בָּם; וּנְקֹטֹתֶם, בִּפְנֵיכֶם, בְּכָל-רָעוֹתֵיכֶם, אֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶם.
Uzkhartem-sham, et-darkheikhem veet kol-aliloteikhem, asher nitmeatem, bam; uneqototem, bifneikhem, bekhol-raoteikhem, asher asitem.
And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have polluted yourselves; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.
44.
וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי-אֲנִי יְהוָה, בַּעֲשׂוֹתִי אִתְּכֶם לְמַעַן שְׁמִי: לֹא כְדַרְכֵיכֶם הָרָעִים וְכַעֲלִילוֹתֵיכֶם הַנִּשְׁחָתוֹת, בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל--נְאֻם, אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה.
vi'da'tem ki-ani YHWH, ba'asoti itkem lema'an shemi: lo khedarkhekhem hara'im vekha'alilotekhem hanishkhatot, beit Yisrael--ne'um, Adonai YHWH.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have wrought with you for My name's sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.'
