1.
בַּחֹדֶשׁ, הַשְּׁלִישִׁי, לְצֵאת בְּנֵי-יִשְׂרָאֵל, מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם--בַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה, בָּאוּ מִדְבַּר סִינָי.
bachodesh, hashtshalishi, letze'et benei-Yisrael, me'eretz Mitzrayim--bayyom hazzeh, ba'u midbar Sinai.
In the third month after the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
2.
וַיִּסְעוּ מֵרְפִידִים, וַיָּבֹאוּ מִדְבַּר סִינַי, וַיַּחֲנוּ, בַּמִּדְבָּר; וַיִּחַן-שָׁם יִשְׂרָאֵל, נֶגֶד הָהָר.
vayis'u merefidim, vayavo'u midbar sinai, vayachanu, bammidbar; vayichan-sham Yisrael, neged hahar.
And when they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mount.

וּמֹשֶׁה עָלָה, אֶל-הָאֱלֹהִים; וַיִּקְרָא אֵלָיו יְהוָה, מִן-הָהָר לֵאמֹר, כֹּה תֹאמַר לְבֵית יַעֲקֹב, וְתַגֵּיד לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.
Umosheh alah, el-ha'Elohim; vayikra elav YHWH, min-ha'har lemor, koh tomar lebeit Ya'akov, vetageid livnei Yisrael.
And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying: 'Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
4.
אַתֶּם רְאִיתֶם, אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי לְמִצְרָיִם; וָאֶשָּׂא אֶתְכֶם עַל-כַּנְפֵי נְשָׁרִים, וָאָבִא אֶתְכֶם אֵלָי.
Attem re'item, asher asiti leMitzrayim; va'essa etkhem al-kanfei nesharim, va'avi etkhem elay.
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto Myself.
5.
וְעַתָּה, אִם-שָׁמוֹעַ תִּשְׁמְעוּ בְּקֹלִי, וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם, אֶת-בְּרִיתִי--וִהְיִיתֶם לִי סְגֻלָּה מִכָּל-הָעַמִּים, כִּי-לִי כָּל-הָאָרֶץ.
ve'attah, im-shamo'a tishme'u bekoli, ushemartem, et-beriti--vihyitem li segulah mikkol-ha'ammim, ki-li kol-ha'aretz.
Now therefore, if ye will hearken unto My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be Mine own treasure from among all peoples; for all the earth is Mine;
6.
וְאַתֶּם תִּהְיוּ-לִי מַמְלֶכֶת כֹּהֲנִים, וְגוֹי קָדוֹשׁ: אֵלֶּה, הַדְּבָרִים, אֲשֶׁר תְּדַבֵּר, אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.
ve'attem tihyu-li mamlechet kohanim, vegoy kadosh: elleh, haddevarim, asher tedabber, el-bnei Yisrael.
and ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.'
7.
וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה, וַיִּקְרָא לְזִקְנֵי הָעָם; וַיָּשֶׂם לִפְנֵיהֶם, אֵת כָּל-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה, אֲשֶׁר צִוָּהוּ, יְהוָה.
vayavo Moshe, vayikra leziknei ha'am; vayasem lifneihem, et kol-hadevarim ha'eleh, asher tzivahu, YHWH.
And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the LORD commanded him.
8.
וַיַּעֲנוּ כָל-הָעָם יַחְדָּו וַיֹּאמְרוּ, כֹּל אֲשֶׁר-דִּבֶּר יְהוָה נַעֲשֶׂה; וַיָּשֶׁב מֹשֶׁה אֶת-דִּבְרֵי הָעָם, אֶל-יְהוָה.
Vaya'anu khol-ha'am yakhdav vayomru, kol asher-diber YHWH na'aseh; vayashev Moshe et-divrei ha'am, el-YHWH.
And all the people answered together, and said: 'All that the LORD hath spoken we will do.' And Moses reported the words of the people unto the LORD.
9.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי בָּא אֵלֶיךָ בְּעַב הֶעָנָן, בַּעֲבוּר יִשְׁמַע הָעָם בְּדַבְּרִי עִמָּךְ, וְגַם-בְּךָ יַאֲמִינוּ לְעוֹלָם; וַיַּגֵּד מֹשֶׁה אֶת-דִּבְרֵי הָעָם, אֶל-יְהוָה.
vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, hinne anokhi ba elekha be'av he'anan, ba'avur yishma ha'am bedabri immakh, vegam-bekha ya'aminu le'olam; vayigged Moshe et-divrei ha'am, el-YHWH.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee for ever.' And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
10.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵךְ אֶל-הָעָם, וְקִדַּשְׁתָּם הַיּוֹם וּמָחָר; וְכִבְּסוּ, שִׂמְלֹתָם.
Vayomer YHWH el-Moshe lekh el-ha'am, vekiddashtam hayyom umakhar; vekhibbesu, simlotam.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments,
11.
וְהָיוּ נְכֹנִים, לַיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי: כִּי בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִשִׁי, יֵרֵד יְהוָה לְעֵינֵי כָל-הָעָם--עַל-הַר סִינָי.
vehayu nekhonim, layyom hashelishi: ki bayyom hashelishi, yered YHWH le'enei khol-ha'am--al-har sinay.
and be ready against the third day; for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
12.
וְהִגְבַּלְתָּ אֶת-הָעָם סָבִיב לֵאמֹר, הִשָּׁמְרוּ לָכֶם עֲלוֹת בָּהָר וּנְגֹעַ בְּקָצֵהוּ: כָּל-הַנֹּגֵעַ בָּהָר, מוֹת יוּמָת.
vehigbalta et-ha'am saviv lemor, hishamru lakhem alot bahar ungo'a beqatsehu: kol-hannoge'a bahar, mot yumat.
And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying: Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it; whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death;
13.
לֹא-תִגַּע בּוֹ יָד, כִּי-סָקוֹל יִסָּקֵל אוֹ-יָרֹה יִיָּרֶה--אִם-בְּהֵמָה אִם-אִישׁ, לֹא יִחְיֶה; בִּמְשֹׁךְ, הַיֹּבֵל, הֵמָּה, יַעֲלוּ בָהָר.
lo-tiggah bo yad, ki-sakol yissakel o-yaroh yiyareh--im-behemah im-ish, lo yihyeh; bimsjokh, hayovel, hemmah, ya'alu vahar.
no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live; when the ram's horn soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.'
14.
וַיֵּרֶד מֹשֶׁה מִן-הָהָר, אֶל-הָעָם; וַיְקַדֵּשׁ, אֶת-הָעָם, וַיְכַבְּסוּ, שִׂמְלֹתָם.
Vayered Moshe min-hahor, el-ha'am; vaykedesh, et-ha'am, vaykakhvu, simlotam.
And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments.
15.
וַיֹּאמֶר, אֶל-הָעָם, הֱיוּ נְכֹנִים, לִשְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים: אַל-תִּגְּשׁוּ, אֶל-אִשָּׁה.
Vayomer, el-ha'am, heyu nekhonim, lishloshet yamim: al-tiggeshu, el-ishshah.
And he said unto the people: 'Be ready against the third day; come not near a woman.'
16.
וַיְהִי בַיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי בִּהְיֹת הַבֹּקֶר, וַיְהִי קֹלֹת וּבְרָקִים וְעָנָן כָּבֵד עַל-הָהָר, וְקֹל שֹׁפָר, חָזָק מְאֹד; וַיֶּחֱרַד כָּל-הָעָם, אֲשֶׁר בַּמַּחֲנֶה.
vayhi bayom hashlishi bihyot haboker, vayhi kolot uverakim ve'anan kaved al-hehar, vekol shofar, khazak me'od; vayhekherad kol-ha'am, asher bamakhanekh.
And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a horn exceeding loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled.
17.
וַיּוֹצֵא מֹשֶׁה אֶת-הָעָם לִקְרַאת הָאֱלֹהִים, מִן-הַמַּחֲנֶה; וַיִּתְיַצְּבוּ, בְּתַחְתִּית הָהָר.
vayyoze Moshe et-ha'am liqrat ha'Elohim, min-hamachaneh; vayyityatzvu, betachtit hahar.
And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.
18.
וְהַר סִינַי, עָשַׁן כֻּלּוֹ, מִפְּנֵי אֲשֶׁר יָרַד עָלָיו יְהוָה, בָּאֵשׁ; וַיַּעַל עֲשָׁנוֹ כְּעֶשֶׁן הַכִּבְשָׁן, וַיֶּחֱרַד כָּל-הָהָר מְאֹד.
vehar Sinay, ashan kullo, mipnei asher yarad alayv YHWH, ba'esh; vayya'al ashano ke'eshen hakkivshan, vayyecharad kol-hehar me'od.
Now mount Sinai was altogether on smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
19.
וַיְהִי קוֹל הַשֹּׁפָר, הוֹלֵךְ וְחָזֵק מְאֹד; מֹשֶׁה יְדַבֵּר, וְהָאֱלֹהִים יַעֲנֶנּוּ בְקוֹל.
vayhi kol hashofar, holekh vekhazek me'od; Moshe yedaber, veha'Elohim ya'anenu vekol.
And when the voice of the horn waxed louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
20.
וַיֵּרֶד יְהוָה עַל-הַר סִינַי, אֶל-רֹאשׁ הָהָר; וַיִּקְרָא יְהוָה לְמֹשֶׁה אֶל-רֹאשׁ הָהָר, וַיַּעַל מֹשֶׁה.
vayered YHWH 'al-har Sinai, el-rosh hahar; vayiqra YHWH leMoshe el-rosh hahar, vaya'al Moshe.
And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
21.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, רֵד הָעֵד בָּעָם: פֶּן-יֶהֶרְסוּ אֶל-יְהוָה לִרְאוֹת, וְנָפַל מִמֶּנּוּ רָב.
Vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, red ha'ed ba'am: pen-yehersu el-YHWH lir'ot, venafal mimmennu rav.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
22.
וְגַם הַכֹּהֲנִים הַנִּגָּשִׁים אֶל-יְהוָה, יִתְקַדָּשׁוּ: פֶּן-יִפְרֹץ בָּהֶם, יְהוָה.
vegam hakkohanim hanniggashim el-YHWH yitkaddashu pen-yifrotz bahem YHWH.
And let the priests also, that come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.'
23.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, אֶל-יְהוָה, לֹא-יוּכַל הָעָם, לַעֲלֹת אֶל-הַר סִינָי: כִּי-אַתָּה הַעֵדֹתָה בָּנוּ, לֵאמֹר, הַגְבֵּל אֶת-הָהָר, וְקִדַּשְׁתּוֹ.
Vayomer Moshe, el-Adonai, lo-yukhal ha'am, la'alot el-har Sinai: ki-atah ha'edota banu, lemor, hagbel et-hahar, vekidashto.
And Moses said unto the LORD: 'The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst charge us, saying: Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.'
24.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יְהוָה לֶךְ-רֵד, וְעָלִיתָ אַתָּה וְאַהֲרֹן עִמָּךְ; וְהַכֹּהֲנִים וְהָעָם, אַל-יֶהֶרְסוּ לַעֲלֹת אֶל-יְהוָה--פֶּן-יִפְרָץ-בָּם.
vayomer elav YHWH lekh-red, ve'alita attah ve'Aharon immakh; vehakkohanim veha'am, al-yehersu la'alot el-YHWH--pen-yifratz-bam.
And the LORD said unto him: 'Go, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest He break forth upon them.'
25.
וַיֵּרֶד מֹשֶׁה, אֶל-הָעָם; וַיֹּאמֶר, אֲלֵהֶם.
vayered Moshe, el-ha'am; vayomer, alehem.
So Moses went down unto the people, and told them.
