1.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, בֹּא אֶל-פַּרְעֹה: כִּי-אֲנִי הִכְבַּדְתִּי אֶת-לִבּוֹ, וְאֶת-לֵב עֲבָדָיו, לְמַעַן שִׁתִי אֹתֹתַי אֵלֶּה, בְּקִרְבּוֹ.
vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, bo el-Par'oh: ki-ani hikhbadti et-libo, ve'et lev 'avadav, lema'an shiti ototay eleh, bekirbo.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these My signs in the midst of them;
2.
וּלְמַעַן תְּסַפֵּר בְּאָזְנֵי בִנְךָ וּבֶן-בִּנְךָ, אֵת אֲשֶׁר הִתְעַלַּלְתִּי בְּמִצְרַיִם, וְאֶת-אֹתֹתַי, אֲשֶׁר-שַׂמְתִּי בָם; וִידַעְתֶּם, כִּי-אֲנִי יְהוָה.
ulma'an tesaper be'oznei vinkha uven-binkha, et asher hit'allalti beMitzrayim, ve'et-ototay, asher-samti vam; vide'atem, ki-ani YHWH.
and that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what I have wrought upon Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them; that ye may know that I am the LORD.'
3.
וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן, אֶל-פַּרְעֹה, וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הָעִבְרִים, עַד-מָתַי מֵאַנְתָּ לֵעָנֹת מִפָּנָי; שַׁלַּח עַמִּי, וְיַעַבְדֻנִי.
vayavo Moshe ve'Aharon, el-Par'oh, vayomru elav koh-amar YHWH Elohei ha'Ivrim, 'ad-matay me'anta le'anot mippanay; shallach 'ammi, veya'avduni.
And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before Me? let My people go, that they may serve Me.
4.
כִּי אִם-מָאֵן אַתָּה, לְשַׁלֵּחַ אֶת-עַמִּי--הִנְנִי מֵבִיא מָחָר אַרְבֶּה, בִּגְבֻלֶךָ.
ki im-ma'en attah, leshalle'ach et-ammi--hinni mevi makhar arbeh, bigvulekha.
Else, if thou refuse to let My people go, behold, to-morrow will I bring locusts into thy border;
5.
וְכִסָּה אֶת-עֵין הָאָרֶץ, וְלֹא יוּכַל לִרְאֹת אֶת-הָאָרֶץ; וְאָכַל אֶת-יֶתֶר הַפְּלֵטָה, הַנִּשְׁאֶרֶת לָכֶם מִן-הַבָּרָד, וְאָכַל אֶת-כָּל-הָעֵץ, הַצֹּמֵחַ לָכֶם מִן-הַשָּׂדֶה.
vekissah et-'ein ha'aretz, velo yukhal lirot et-ha'aretz; ve'akhal et-yeter happeletah, hannish'eret lakhem min-habarad, ve'akhal et-kol-ha'etz, hatzome'ach lakhem min-hassadeh.
and they shall cover the face of the earth, that one shall not be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field;

וּמָלְאוּ בָתֶּיךָ וּבָתֵּי כָל-עֲבָדֶיךָ, וּבָתֵּי כָל-מִצְרַיִם, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-רָאוּ אֲבֹתֶיךָ וַאֲבוֹת אֲבֹתֶיךָ, מִיּוֹם הֱיוֹתָם עַל-הָאֲדָמָה עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה; וַיִּפֶן וַיֵּצֵא, מֵעִם פַּרְעֹה.
umale'u vatteykha uvattey khol-avadeykha, uvattey khol-mitzrayim, asher lo-ra'u avoteykha va'avot avoteykha, miyom heyotam al-ha'adamah ad hayom hazzeh; vayifen vayyetze, me'
and thy houses shall be filled, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; as neither thy fathers nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day.' And he turned, and went out from Pharaoh.
7.
וַיֹּאמְרוּ עַבְדֵי פַרְעֹה אֵלָיו, עַד-מָתַי יִהְיֶה זֶה לָנוּ לְמוֹקֵשׁ--שַׁלַּח אֶת-הָאֲנָשִׁים, וְיַעַבְדוּ אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיהֶם; הֲטֶרֶם תֵּדַע, כִּי אָבְדָה מִצְרָיִם.
Vayomru avdei Paroh elav, ad-matay yihyeh zeh lanu lemokesh--shalach et-ha'anashim, veya'avdu et-YHWH Eloheihem; haterem teda, ki avdah Mitzrayim.
And Pharaoh's servants said unto him: 'How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God, knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?'
8.
וַיּוּשַׁב אֶת-מֹשֶׁה וְאֶת-אַהֲרֹן, אֶל-פַּרְעֹה, וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם, לְכוּ עִבְדוּ אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם; מִי וָמִי, הַהֹלְכִים.
vayushav et-Moshe ve'et-Aharon, el-par'oh, vayomer alehem, lekhu ivdu et-YHWH Elohekhem; mi vami, haholkhim.
And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh; and he said unto them: 'Go, serve the LORD your God; but who are they that shall go?'
9.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, בִּנְעָרֵינוּ וּבִזְקֵנֵינוּ נֵלֵךְ; בְּבָנֵינוּ וּבִבְנוֹתֵנוּ בְּצֹאנֵנוּ וּבִבְקָרֵנוּ, נֵלֵךְ--כִּי חַג-יְהוָה, לָנוּ.
Vayomer Moshe, bin'areinu uvizkeneinu nelech; bevaneinu uvibnoteinu betz'oneinu uvivkareinu, nelech--ki chag-YHWH, lanu.
And Moses said: 'We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds we will go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.'
10.
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם, יְהִי כֵן יְהוָה עִמָּכֶם, כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲשַׁלַּח אֶתְכֶם, וְאֶת-טַפְּכֶם; רְאוּ, כִּי רָעָה נֶגֶד פְּנֵיכֶם.
Vayomer alehem, yehi ken YHWH immakhem, ka'asher ashallach etkhem, ve'et-tap'khem; re'u, ki ra'ah neged peneikhem.
And he said unto them: 'So be the LORD with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones; see ye that evil is before your face.
11.
לֹא כֵן, לְכוּ-נָא הַגְּבָרִים וְעִבְדוּ אֶת-יְהוָה--כִּי אֹתָהּ, אַתֶּם מְבַקְשִׁים; וַיְגָרֶשׁ אֹתָם, מֵאֵת פְּנֵי פַרְעֹה.
lo khen, lekhu-na hagevarim ve'ivdu et-YHWH--ki otah, attem mevakshim; vaygeresh otam, me'et penei Far'oh.
Not so; go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that is what ye desire.' And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.
12.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, נְטֵה יָדְךָ עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם בָּאַרְבֶּה, וְיַעַל, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; וְיֹאכַל אֶת-כָּל-עֵשֶׂב הָאָרֶץ, אֵת כָּל-אֲשֶׁר הִשְׁאִיר הַבָּרָד.
vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, neteh yadkha al-eretz Mitzrayim ba'arbeh, veya'al, al-eretz Mitzrayim; veyokhal et-kol-eshev ha'aretz, et kol-asher hishir habarad.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch out thy hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.'
13.
וַיֵּט מֹשֶׁה אֶת-מַטֵּהוּ, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, וַיהוָה נִהַג רוּחַ-קָדִים בָּאָרֶץ, כָּל-הַיּוֹם הַהוּא וְכָל-הַלָּיְלָה; הַבֹּקֶר הָיָה--וְרוּחַ הַקָּדִים, נָשָׂא אֶת-הָאַרְבֶּה.
Vayet Moshe et-mattehu, 'al-eretz Mitzrayim, vAdonai nihag ru'ach-qadim ba'aretz, kol-hayom hahu vechol-hallaylah; haboker hayah--veru'ach haqadim, nasa et-ha'arbeh.
And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all the night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
14.
וַיַּעַל הָאַרְבֶּה, עַל כָּל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, וַיָּנַח, בְּכֹל גְּבוּל מִצְרָיִם: כָּבֵד מְאֹד--לְפָנָיו לֹא-הָיָה כֵן אַרְבֶּה כָּמֹהוּ, וְאַחֲרָיו לֹא יִהְיֶה-כֵּן.
vayya'al ha'arbeh, al kol-eretz Mitzrayim, vayyanach, bekhol gevul Mitzrayim: kaved me'od--lefanav lo-hayah khen arbeh kamohu, ve'acharav lo yihyeh-ken.
And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt; very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.
15.
וַיְכַס אֶת-עֵין כָּל-הָאָרֶץ, וַתֶּחְשַׁךְ הָאָרֶץ, וַיֹּאכַל אֶת-כָּל-עֵשֶׂב הָאָרֶץ וְאֵת כָּל-פְּרִי הָעֵץ, אֲשֶׁר הוֹתִיר הַבָּרָד; וְלֹא-נוֹתַר כָּל-יֶרֶק בָּעֵץ וּבְעֵשֶׂב הַשָּׂדֶה, בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם.
vaykhas et-'ein kol-ha'aretz, vattekhshakh ha'aretz, vaytokhal et-kol-'esev ha'aretz ve'et kol-peri ha'etz, asher hotir habarad; velo-notar kol-yerek ba'etz uve'esev hassadeh, bekhol-er
For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left; and there remained not any green thing, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
16.
וַיְמַהֵר פַּרְעֹה, לִקְרֹא לְמֹשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן; וַיֹּאמֶר, חָטָאתִי לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם--וְלָכֶם.
vaymaher Par'oh, likro leMoshe ule'Aharon; vayomer, khatati laYHWH Eloheikhem--velakhem.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said: 'I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.
17.
וְעַתָּה, שָׂא נָא חַטָּאתִי אַךְ הַפַּעַם, וְהַעְתִּירוּ, לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם; וְיָסֵר, מֵעָלַי, רַק, אֶת-הַמָּוֶת הַזֶּה.
ve'attah, sa na chattati akh happa'am, va'atiru, laYHWH Eloheikhem; veyaser, me'alay, raq, et-hammavet hazzeh.
Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and entreat the LORD your God, that He may take away from me this death only.'
18.
וַיֵּצֵא, מֵעִם פַּרְעֹה; וַיֶּעְתַּר, אֶל-יְהוָה.
vayetze me'im Par'oh; vayet'ar, el-YHWH.
And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the LORD.
19.
וַיַּהֲפֹךְ יְהוָה רוּחַ-יָם, חָזָק מְאֹד, וַיִּשָּׂא אֶת-הָאַרְבֶּה, וַיִּתְקָעֵהוּ יָמָּה סּוּף: לֹא נִשְׁאַר אַרְבֶּה אֶחָד, בְּכֹל גְּבוּל מִצְרָיִם.
vayhafokh YHWH ruach-yam, khazak me'od, vayyissa et-ha'arbeh, vayyitka'ehu yammah suf: lo nish'ar arbeh echad, bekhol gevul Mitzrayim.
And the LORD turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt.
20.
וַיְחַזֵּק יְהוָה, אֶת-לֵב פַּרְעֹה; וְלֹא שִׁלַּח, אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל.
vaykhazzeq YHWH, et-lev Par'oh; velo shillakh, et-b'nei Yisrael.
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.
21.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, נְטֵה יָדְךָ עַל-הַשָּׁמַיִם, וִיהִי חֹשֶׁךְ, עַל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; וְיָמֵשׁ, חֹשֶׁךְ.
Vayomer YHWH el-Moshe, neteh yadkha al-hashamayim, vihi khoshek, al-eretz Mitzrayim; veyamesh, khoshek.
And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch out thy hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.'
22.
וַיֵּט מֹשֶׁה אֶת-יָדוֹ, עַל-הַשָּׁמָיִם; וַיְהִי חֹשֶׁךְ-אֲפֵלָה בְּכָל-אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים.
vaytet Moshe et yado, al hashamayim; vayehi choshek-aphela bekhol eretz Mitzrayim, sheloshet yamim.
And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days;
23.
לֹא-רָאוּ אִישׁ אֶת-אָחִיו, וְלֹא-קָמוּ אִישׁ מִתַּחְתָּיו--שְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים; וּלְכָל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הָיָה אוֹר, בְּמוֹשְׁבֹתָם.
lo-ra'u ish et-achiv, ve'lo-kamu ish mittachtav--shloshet yamim; ulekhal-bnei Yisrael hayah or, be'moshvotam.
they saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
24.
וַיִּקְרָא פַרְעֹה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, וַיֹּאמֶר לְכוּ עִבְדוּ אֶת-יְהוָה--רַק צֹאנְכֶם וּבְקַרְכֶם, יֻצָּג: גַּם-טַפְּכֶם, יֵלֵךְ עִמָּכֶם.
Vayikra Par'oh el Moshe, vayomer lekhu 'ivdu et YHWH--rak tzonkhem uvekarkhem, yutzag: gam-tafkhem, yelekh 'immakhem.
And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said: 'Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed; let your little ones also go with you.'
25.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, גַּם-אַתָּה תִּתֵּן בְּיָדֵנוּ זְבָחִים וְעֹלֹת; וְעָשִׂינוּ, לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ.
vayomer Moshe, gam-attah titten beyadenu zevachim ve'olot; ve'asinu, laAdonai Eloheinu.
And Moses said: 'Thou must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt-offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God.
26.
וְגַם-מִקְנֵנוּ יֵלֵךְ עִמָּנוּ, לֹא תִשָּׁאֵר פַּרְסָה--כִּי מִמֶּנּוּ נִקַּח, לַעֲבֹד אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ; וַאֲנַחְנוּ לֹא-נֵדַע, מַה-נַּעֲבֹד אֶת-יְהוָה, עַד-בֹּאֵנוּ, שָׁמָּה.
vegam-miknenu yelevh 'immanu, lo tish'ar parsah--ki mimmennu nikkach, la'avod et-YHWH Eloheinu; va'anachnu lo-neda', mah-na'avod et-YHWH, 'ad-bo'enu, shammah.
Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not a hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the LORD, until we come thither.'
27.
וַיְחַזֵּק יְהוָה, אֶת-לֵב פַּרְעֹה; וְלֹא אָבָה, לְשַׁלְּחָם.
vaykhazek YHWH, et-lev Par'oh; velo avah, leshallapham.
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.
28.
וַיֹּאמֶר-לוֹ פַרְעֹה, לֵךְ מֵעָלָי; הִשָּׁמֶר לְךָ, אַל-תֹּסֶף רְאוֹת פָּנַי--כִּי בְּיוֹם רְאֹתְךָ פָנַי, תָּמוּת.
vayomer-lo Par'oh, lekh me'alay; hishamer lekha, al-tosef re'ot panay--ki beyom re'otkha panay, tamut.
And Pharaoh said unto him: 'Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in the day thou seest my face thou shalt die.'
29.
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה, כֵּן דִּבַּרְתָּ: לֹא-אֹסִף עוֹד, רְאוֹת פָּנֶיךָ.
Vayomer Moshe, ken dibarta: lo-osif od, re'ot panekha.
And Moses said: 'Thou hast spoken well; I will see thy face again no more.'
