1.
וַיְצַו מֹשֶׁה וְזִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֶת-הָעָם לֵאמֹר: שָׁמֹר, אֶת-כָּל-הַמִּצְוָה, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶם, הַיּוֹם.
vaytzav Moshe u'ziknei Yisrael, et-ha'am lemor: shamor, et-kol-hamitzvah, asher anokhi metzaveh etkhem, hayom.
And Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying: 'Keep all the commandment which I command you this day.
2.
וְהָיָה, בַּיּוֹם אֲשֶׁר תַּעַבְרוּ אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן, אֶל-הָאָרֶץ, אֲשֶׁר-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ--וַהֲקֵמֹתָ לְךָ אֲבָנִים גְּדֹלוֹת, וְשַׂדְתָּ אֹתָם בַּשִּׂיד.
ve'hayah, bayom asher ta'avru et-hanyarden, el-ha'aretz, asher-YHWH Elohekha noten lakh--va'hakemota lekha avanim gedolot, ve'sadta otam bashid.
And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over the Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaster them with plaster.
3.
וְכָתַבְתָּ עֲלֵיהֶן, אֶת-כָּל-דִּבְרֵי הַתּוֹרָה הַזֹּאת--בְּעָבְרֶךָ: לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר תָּבֹא אֶל-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ, אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי-אֲבֹתֶיךָ, לָךְ.
ve'khatavta aleihen, et-kol-divrei hatorah hazot--be'avrekha: lema'an asher tavo el-ha'aretz asher-YHWH Elohekha noten lekha, eretz zavat khalav u'devash, ka'asher diber YHWH Elohei-avotekha, lakh.
And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over; that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of thy fathers, hath promised thee.
4.
וְהָיָה, בְּעָבְרְכֶם אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן, תָּקִימוּ אֶת-הָאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶם הַיּוֹם, בְּהַר עֵיבָל; וְשַׂדְתָּ אוֹתָם, בַּשִּׂיד.
ve'hayah, be'avrekhem et-ha'yarden, takimu et-ha'avanim ha'eleh asher anokhi metzaveh etkhem ha'yom, be'har eyval; ve'sadta otam, ba'shid.
And it shall be when ye are passed over the Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaster them with plaster.
5.
וּבָנִיתָ שָּׁם מִזְבֵּחַ, לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ: מִזְבַּח אֲבָנִים, לֹא-תָנִיף עֲלֵיהֶם בַּרְזֶל.
u'vanita sham mizbeach, la'Adonai Elohekha: mizbach avanim, lo-tanif alehem barzel.
And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones; thou shalt lift up no iron tool upon them.
6.
אֲבָנִים שְׁלֵמוֹת תִּבְנֶה, אֶת-מִזְבַּח יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ; וְהַעֲלִיתָ עָלָיו עוֹלֹת, לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ.
avanim shelemot tivneh, et-mizbach YHWH Elohekha; ve'alita alav olot, la'Adonai Elohekha.
Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of unhewn stones; and thou shalt offer burnt-offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God.
7.
וְזָבַחְתָּ שְׁלָמִים, וְאָכַלְתָּ שָּׁם; וְשָׂמַחְתָּ, לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ.
ve'zavachta shelamim, ve'akhalta sham; ve'samachta, lifnei YHWH Elohekha.
And thou shalt sacrifice peace-offerings, and shalt eat there; and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God.
8.
וְכָתַבְתָּ עַל-הָאֲבָנִים, אֶת-כָּל-דִּבְרֵי הַתּוֹרָה הַזֹּאת--בַּאֵר הֵיטֵב.
vekhatavta al-ha'avanim, et-kol-divrei hatorah hazot--ba'er hetev.
And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.'
9.
וַיְדַבֵּר מֹשֶׁה וְהַכֹּהֲנִים הַלְוִיִּם, אֶל כָּל-יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר: הַסְכֵּת וּשְׁמַע, יִשְׂרָאֵל, הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה נִהְיֵיתָ לְעָם, לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ.
vaydaber Moshe vehakohanim halevi'im, el kol-Yisrael lemor: hasket ushema, Yisrael, hayom hazeh nihyita le'am, laYHWH Elohekha.
And Moses and the priests the Levites spoke unto all Israel, saying: 'Keep silence, and hear, O Israel; this day thou art become a people unto the LORD thy God.
10.
וְשָׁמַעְתָּ, בְּקוֹל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ; וְעָשִׂיתָ אֶת-מִצְוֺתָו וְאֶת-חֻקָּיו, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם.
veshamata, bekol YHWH Elohekha; ve'asita et-mitzvotav ve'et-hukav, asher anokhi metzavekha hayom.
Thou shalt therefore hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and do His commandments and His statutes, which I command thee this day.'
11.
וַיְצַו מֹשֶׁה אֶת-הָעָם, בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לֵאמֹר.
vaytzav Moshe et-ha'am, bayom hahu lemor.
And Moses charged the people the same day, saying:
12.
אֵלֶּה יַעַמְדוּ לְבָרֵךְ אֶת-הָעָם, עַל-הַר גְּרִזִים, בְּעָבְרְכֶם, אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן: שִׁמְעוֹן וְלֵוִי וִיהוּדָה, וְיִשָּׂשכָר וְיוֹסֵף וּבִנְיָמִן.
elleh ya'amdu levarēkh et-ha'am, 'al-har gerizim, be'avrekhem, et-hayarden: shim'on velevi vihudah, veyissaskhar veyosef ubinyamin.
'These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are passed over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin;
13.
וְאֵלֶּה יַעַמְדוּ עַל-הַקְּלָלָה, בְּהַר עֵיבָל: רְאוּבֵן גָּד וְאָשֵׁר, וּזְבוּלֻן דָּן וְנַפְתָּלִי.
ve'elleh ya'amdu 'al-haqqelalah, behar 'eyval: reuven gad ve'asher, uzevulun dan venaftali.
and these shall stand upon mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14.
וְעָנוּ הַלְוִיִּם, וְאָמְרוּ אֶל-כָּל-אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל--קוֹל רָם.
ve'anu halviyim, ve'amru el-kol-ish yisrael--qol ram.
And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice:
15.
אָרוּר הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה פֶסֶל וּמַסֵּכָה תּוֹעֲבַת יְהוָה, מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי חָרָשׁ--וְשָׂם בַּסָּתֶר; וְעָנוּ כָל-הָעָם וְאָמְרוּ, אָמֵן.
arur ha'ish asher ya'aseh fesel umassekhah to'avat YHWH, ma'aseh yedei kharash--vesam bassater; ve'anu khol-ha'am ve'amru, amen.
Cursed be the man that maketh a graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and setteth it up in secret. And all the people shall answer and say: Amen.
16.
אָרוּר, מַקְלֶה אָבִיו וְאִמּוֹ; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur makle aviv ve'imo ve'amar kol-ha'am amen
Cursed be he that dishonoureth his father or his mother. And all the people shall say: Amen.
17.
אָרוּר, מַסִּיג גְּבוּל רֵעֵהוּ; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur masig gevul re'ehu ve'amar kol-ha'am amen
Cursed be he that removeth his neighbour's landmark. And all the people shall say: Amen.
18.
אָרוּר, מַשְׁגֶּה עִוֵּר בַּדָּרֶךְ; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur mashge iver badarekh ve'amar kol-ha'am amen
Cursed be he that maketh the blind to go astray in the way. And all the people shall say: Amen.
19.
אָרוּר, מַטֶּה מִשְׁפַּט גֵּר-יָתוֹם--וְאַלְמָנָה; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur mate mishpat ger-yatom ve'almanah ve'amar kol-ha'am amen
Cursed be he that perverteth the justice due to the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say: Amen.
20.
אָרוּר, שֹׁכֵב עִם-אֵשֶׁת אָבִיו--כִּי גִלָּה, כְּנַף אָבִיו; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur, shokhev im-eshet aviv--ki gillah, kanaf aviv; ve'amar kol-ha'am, amen.
Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife; because he hath uncovered his father's skirt. And all the people shall say: Amen.
21.
אָרוּר, שֹׁכֵב עִם-כָּל-בְּהֵמָה; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur, shokhev im-kol-behemah; ve'amar kol-ha'am, amen.
Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say: Amen.
22.
אָרוּר, שֹׁכֵב עִם-אֲחֹתוֹ--בַּת-אָבִיו, אוֹ בַת-אִמּוֹ; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur, shokhev im-achoto--bat-aviv, o bat-immo; ve'amar kol-ha'am, amen.
Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say: Amen.
23.
אָרוּר, שֹׁכֵב עִם-חֹתַנְתּוֹ; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur, shokhev im-hotanto; ve'amar kol-ha'am, amen.
Cursed be he that lieth with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say: Amen.
24.
אָרוּר, מַכֵּה רֵעֵהוּ בַּסָּתֶר; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur, make re'ehu basater; ve'amar kol-ha'am, amen.
Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour in secret. And all the people shall say: Amen.
25.
אָרוּר לֹקֵחַ שֹׁחַד, לְהַכּוֹת נֶפֶשׁ דָּם נָקִי; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur loke'ach shochad, lehakot nefesh dam naki; ve'amar kol-ha'am, amen.
Cursed be he that taketh a bribe to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say: Amen.
26.
אָרוּר, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יָקִים אֶת-דִּבְרֵי הַתּוֹרָה-הַזֹּאת--לַעֲשׂוֹת אוֹתָם; וְאָמַר כָּל-הָעָם, אָמֵן.
arur, asher lo-yakim et-divrei hatorah-hazot--la'asot otam; ve'amar kol-ha'am, amen.
Cursed be he that confirmeth not the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say: Amen.'
