1.
בִּשְׁנַת חֲדָה, לְבֵלְאשַׁצַּר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל, דָּנִיֵּאל חֵלֶם חֲזָה, וְחֶזְוֵי רֵאשֵׁהּ עַל-מִשְׁכְּבֵהּ; בֵּאדַיִן חֶלְמָא כְתַב, רֵאשׁ מִלִּין אֲמַר.
bishnat khadah, levele'shatzar melekh bavel, daniyel khelem khazah, vehezvey resheh al-mishkeveh; be'dayin khelma khetav, resh millin amar.
In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed; then he wrote the dream and told the sum of the matters.
2.
עָנֵה דָנִיֵּאל וְאָמַר, חָזֵה הֲוֵית בְּחֶזְוִי עִם-לֵילְיָא; וַאֲרוּ, אַרְבַּע רוּחֵי שְׁמַיָּא, מְגִיחָן, לְיַמָּא רַבָּא.
ane daniyel ve'amar, khaze havet bekhezvi im-leleya; va'aru, arba ruchei shmaya, megikhan, leyama raba.
Daniel spoke and said: I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven broke forth upon the great sea.
3.
וְאַרְבַּע חֵיוָן רַבְרְבָן, סָלְקָן מִן-יַמָּא, שָׁנְיָן, דָּא מִן-דָּא.
ve'arba khevyan ravrevan, salqan min-yama, shanyan, da min-da.
And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

קַדְמָיְתָא כְאַרְיֵה, וְגַפִּין דִּי-נְשַׁר לַהּ; חָזֵה הֲוֵית עַד דִּי-מְּרִיטוּ גפיה גַפַּהּ וּנְטִילַת מִן-אַרְעָא, וְעַל-רַגְלַיִן כֶּאֱנָשׁ הֳקִימַת, וּלְבַב אֱנָשׁ, יְהִיב לַהּ.
qadmayta khe'aryeh, vegapin di-neshar lah; khazhe haveit ad di-meritu gafah unetilat min-ar'a, ve'al-raglayin ke'enash hoqimat, ulevab enash, yehiy-lah.
The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings; I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon two feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.
5.
וַאֲרוּ חֵיוָה אָחֳרִי תִנְיָנָה דָּמְיָה לְדֹב, וְלִשְׂטַר-חַד הֳקִמַת, וּתְלָת עִלְעִין בְּפֻמַּהּ, בֵּין שניה שִׁנַּהּ; וְכֵן אָמְרִין לַהּ, קוּמִי אֲכֻלִי בְּשַׂר שַׂגִּיא.
va'aru khevah okhoriy tinyanah damyah ledov, velishtar-chad hoqimat, utelat il'in befumah, bein shinnah; vekhen amrin lah, qumi akhuli besar saggiy.
And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was said thus unto it: 'Arise, devour much flesh.'
6.
בָּאתַר דְּנָה חָזֵה הֲוֵית, וַאֲרוּ אָחֳרִי כִּנְמַר, וְלַהּ גַּפִּין אַרְבַּע דִּי-עוֹף, עַל-גביה גַּבַּהּ; וְאַרְבְּעָה רֵאשִׁין לְחֵיוְתָא, וְשָׁלְטָן יְהִיב לַהּ.
batar denah khazhe haveit, va'aru okhoriy kinmar, ve-lah gapin arba di-tof, al-gabbah; ve'arba'ah reshin lekhevta, veshalton yehiy-lah.
After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the sides of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.
7.
בָּאתַר דְּנָה חָזֵה הֲוֵית בְּחֶזְוֵי לֵילְיָא, וַאֲרוּ חֵיוָה רביעיה רְבִיעָאָה דְּחִילָה וְאֵימְתָנִי וְתַקִּיפָא יַתִּירָה וְשִׁנַּיִן דִּי-פַרְזֶל לַהּ רַבְרְבָן, אָכְלָה וּמַדֱּקָה, וּשְׁאָרָא ברגליה בְּרַגְלַהּ רָפְסָה; וְהִיא מְשַׁנְּיָה, מִן-כָּל-חֵיוָתָא דִּי קדמיה קָדָמַהּ, וְקַרְנַיִן עֲשַׂר, לַהּ.
batar denah khazeh haveit bekhezvei leilya, va'aru kheyva revia'ah dekhilah ve'eimtani vetakifa yatirah veshinayin di-farzel lah ravrevan, akhla umadekah, ushe'ara beraglah rafsah; vehi meshenyah, min-kol-kheyvata di kadmah, vekarnayin asar, lah.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet; and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
8.
מִשְׂתַּכַּל הֲוֵית בְּקַרְנַיָּא, וַאֲלוּ קֶרֶן אָחֳרִי זְעֵירָה סִלְקָת ביניהון בֵּינֵיהֵן, וּתְלָת מִן-קַרְנַיָּא קַדְמָיָתָא, אתעקרו אֶתְעֲקַרָה מִן-קדמיה קֳדָמַהּ; וַאֲלוּ עַיְנִין כְּעַיְנֵי אֲנָשָׁא, בְּקַרְנָא-דָא, וּפֻם, מְמַלִּל רַבְרְבָן.
mishtakal haveit bekarnaya, va'alu keren okhori ze'irah silkah bineihen, u-telat min-karnaya kadmayata, et'akarah min-kodamah; va'alu ayenin ke'aynei anasha, bekarna-da, ufum, memallil ravrevan.
I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots; and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.
9.
חָזֵה הֲוֵית, עַד דִּי כָרְסָוָן רְמִיו, וְעַתִּיק יוֹמִין, יְתִב; לְבוּשֵׁהּ כִּתְלַג חִוָּר, וּשְׂעַר רֵאשֵׁהּ כַּעֲמַר נְקֵא, כָּרְסְיֵהּ שְׁבִבִין דִּי-נוּר, גַּלְגִּלּוֹהִי נוּר דָּלִק.
khazeh haveit, ad di kersavan remیو, ve'atik yomin, yetiv; levusheh kitlag khivar, use'ar resheh ka'amar neke, karsyeh shevivin di-nur, galgilohi nur dalik.
I beheld till thrones were placed, and one that was ancient of days did sit: his raiment was as white snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and the wheels thereof burning fire.
10.
נְהַר דִּי-נוּר, נָגֵד וְנָפֵק מִן-קֳדָמוֹהִי, אֶלֶף אלפים אַלְפִין יְשַׁמְּשׁוּנֵּהּ, וְרִבּוֹ רבון רִבְבָן קָדָמוֹהִי יְקוּמוּן; דִּינָא יְתִב, וְסִפְרִין פְּתִיחוּ.
nehar di-nur, naged venafek min-kodamohi, alfin yeshamshuneh, veribban kodamohi yekumun; dina yetiv, usefarin petikhu.
A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him; thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
11.
חָזֵה הֲוֵית--בֵּאדַיִן מִן-קָל מִלַּיָּא רַבְרְבָתָא, דִּי קַרְנָא מְמַלֱּלָה; חָזֵה הֲוֵית עַד דִּי קְטִילַת חֵיוְתָא, וְהוּבַד גִּשְׁמַהּ, וִיהִיבַת, לִיקֵדַת אֶשָּׁא.
khazeh haveit--be'dayin min-qal milayia ravrevata, di qarna memalelah; khazeh haveit ad di qetilat kheivta, ve'huvad gishmah, vihivat, liqedat esha.
I beheld at that time because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke, I beheld even till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed, and it was given to be burned with fire.
12.
וּשְׁאָר, חֵיוָתָא, הֶעְדִּיו, שָׁלְטָנְהוֹן; וְאַרְכָה בְחַיִּין יְהִיבַת לְהוֹן, עַד-זְמַן וְעִדָּן.
ushe'ar, kheivata, he'diu, shaltanehon; ve'arkha vekhayin yehivat lehon, ad-zeman ve'idan.
And as for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away; yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.
13.
חָזֵה הֲוֵית, בְּחֶזְוֵי לֵילְיָא, וַאֲרוּ עִם-עֲנָנֵי שְׁמַיָּא, כְּבַר אֱנָשׁ אָתֵה הֲוָא; וְעַד-עַתִּיק יוֹמַיָּא מְטָה, וּקְדָמוֹהִי הַקְרְבוּהִי.
khazeh haveit, bekhezvey leilya, va'aru im-'ananei shemaya, kevar enash ateh hava; ve'ad-'atiq yomaya metah, uqedamohi haqrevuhi.
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like unto a son of man, and he came even to the Ancient of days, and he was brought near before Him.
14.
וְלֵהּ יְהִב שָׁלְטָן, וִיקָר וּמַלְכוּ, וְכֹל עַמְמַיָּא אֻמַּיָּא וְלִשָּׁנַיָּא, לֵהּ יִפְלְחוּן; שָׁלְטָנֵהּ שָׁלְטָן עָלַם, דִּי-לָא יֶעְדֵּה, וּמַלְכוּתֵהּ, דִּי-לָא תִתְחַבַּל.
ve'leh yehib shaltan, viqar umalkhu, vekhol 'ammaya umaya velishanya, leh yiflekhun; shaltaneh shaltan 'alam, di-la ye'deh, umalkhuteh, di-la tithabal.
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
15.
אֶתְכְּרִיַּת רוּחִי אֲנָה דָנִיֵּאל, בְּגוֹ נִדְנֶה; וְחֶזְוֵי רֵאשִׁי, יְבַהֲלֻנַּנִי.
etkeriyat ruhi ana Daniyel, bego nidneh; vehezvey reshi, yevahalunani.
As for me Daniel, my spirit was pained in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head affrighted me.
16.
קִרְבֵת, עַל-חַד מִן-קָאֲמַיָּא, וְיַצִּיבָא אֶבְעֵא-מִנֵּהּ, עַל-כָּל-דְּנָה; וַאֲמַר-לִי, וּפְשַׁר מִלַּיָּא יְהוֹדְעִנַּנִי.
kirvet, al-chad min-ka'amayaya, veyattsiva ev'e-minneh, al-kol-denah; va'amar-li, ufshar millaya yehod'enani.
I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things:
17.
אִלֵּין חֵיוָתָא רַבְרְבָתָא, דִּי אִנִּין אַרְבַּע--אַרְבְּעָה מַלְכִין, יְקוּמוּן מִן-אַרְעָא.
illein khevata ravrevata, di innin arba--arba'ah malkhin, yekumun min-ar'a.
'These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, that shall arise out of the earth.
18.
וִיקַבְּלוּן, מַלְכוּתָא, קַדִּישֵׁי, עֶלְיוֹנִין; וְיַחְסְנוּן מַלְכוּתָא עַד-עָלְמָא, וְעַד עָלַם עָלְמַיָּא.
vikabvelun, malkhuta, kaddishey, elyonin; veyakhsenun malkhuta ad-alma, vead alam alemayaya.
But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.'
19.
אֱדַיִן, צְבִית לְיַצָּבָא עַל-חֵיוְתָא רְבִיעָיְתָא, דִּי-הֲוָת שָׁנְיָה, מִן-כלהון כָּלְּהֵן: דְּחִילָה יַתִּירָה, שניה שִׁנַּהּ דִּי-פַרְזֶל וטפריה וְטִפְרַהּ דִּי-נְחָשׁ, אָכְלָה מַדְּקָה, וּשְׁאָרָא ברגליה בְּרַגְלַהּ רָפְסָה.
edayin, tzevit leyatzava al-kheivta revi'ayta, di-havat shanyah, min-kallhon kollehen: dechilah yatirah, shanyah shinnah di-fardzel vetifriyah vetifrah di-nechash, achlah maddakah, ushe'ara beragliyah beraglah rafpsah.
Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth beast, which was diverse from all of them, exceeding terrible, whose teeth were of iron, and its nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet;
20.
וְעַל-קַרְנַיָּא עֲשַׂר, דִּי בְרֵאשַׁהּ, וְאָחֳרִי דִּי סִלְקַת, ונפלו וּנְפַלָה מִן-קדמיה קֳדָמַהּ תְּלָת; וְקַרְנָא דִכֵּן וְעַיְנִין לַהּ, וּפֻם מְמַלִּל רַבְרְבָן, וְחֶזְוַהּ, רַב מִן-חַבְרָתַהּ.
ve'al-karnayya asar, di vresham, ve'ochori di silkat, venaflu unefalah min-kدمeih kodamah telat; vekarna dikken ve'aynin lah, vufum memallil ravrevan, vechezvah, rav min-chavratah.
and concerning the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, and before which three fell; even that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spoke great things, whose appearance was greater than that of its fellows.
21.
חָזֵה הֲוֵית--וְקַרְנָא דִכֵּן, עָבְדָא קְרָב עִם-קַדִּישִׁין; וְיָכְלָה, לְהֹן.
chazheh haveit--vekarna dikken, avda krav im-kaddishin; veyaklah, lehon.
I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
22.
עַד דִּי-אֲתָה, עַתִּיק יוֹמַיָּא, וְדִינָא יְהִב, לְקַדִּישֵׁי עֶלְיוֹנִין; וְזִמְנָא מְטָה, וּמַלְכוּתָא הֶחֱסִנוּ קַדִּישִׁין.
ad di-atah, attik yomayya, vdina yehib, lekadishei elyonin; vezimna metah, umalchuta hechesinu kaddishin.
until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High; and the time came, and the saints possessed the kingdom.
23.
כֵּן, אֲמַר, חֵיוְתָא רְבִיעָיְתָא, מַלְכוּ רביעיה רְבִיעָאָה תֶּהֱוֵא בְאַרְעָא דִּי תִשְׁנֵא מִן-כָּל-מַלְכְוָתָא; וְתֵאכֻל, כָּל-אַרְעָא, וּתְדוּשִׁנַּהּ, וְתַדְּקִנַּהּ.
Ken, amar, kheyvta revi'ayta, malkhu revi'ah revi'ah teheve ve'ar'a di tishne min-kol-malkhvata; vete'akhul, kol-ar'a, utedushinnah, vetaddiqinnah.
Thus he said: 'The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
24.
וְקַרְנַיָּא עֲשַׂר--מִנַּהּ מַלְכוּתָא, עַשְׂרָה מַלְכִין יְקֻמוּן; וְאָחֳרָן יְקוּם אַחֲרֵיהֹן, וְהוּא יִשְׁנֵא מִן-קַדְמָיֵא, וּתְלָתָה מַלְכִין, יְהַשְׁפִּל.
veqarnaya 'asar--minnah malkhuta, 'asrah malkhin yekumun; ve'okhoran yekum akharehon, vehu yishne min-qadmaye, utelata malkhin, yehashpil.
And as for the ten horns, out of this kingdom shall ten kings arise; and another shall arise after them; and he shall be diverse from the former, and he shall put down three kings.
25.
וּמִלִּין, לְצַד עליא עִלָּאָה יְמַלִּל, וּלְקַדִּישֵׁי עֶלְיוֹנִין, יְבַלֵּא; וְיִסְבַּר, לְהַשְׁנָיָה זִמְנִין וְדָת, וְיִתְיַהֲבוּן בִּידֵהּ, עַד-עִדָּן וְעִדָּנִין וּפְלַג עִדָּן.
umillin, letsad elya 'illa'ah yemallil, uleqaddishei 'elyonin, yeballe; ve'yisbar, lehashnaya zimnin vedat, veyityahavun bideh, 'ad-'iddan ve'iddanin uflag 'iddan.
And he shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High; and he shall think to change the seasons and the law; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and half a time.
26.
וְדִינָא, יִתִּב; וְשָׁלְטָנֵהּ יְהַעְדּוֹן, לְהַשְׁמָדָה וּלְהוֹבָדָה עַד-סוֹפָא.
vedina, yittiv; veshaltaneh yeha'don, lehashmada ulehovada 'ad-sopa.
But the judgment shall sit, and his dominions shall be taken away, to be consumed and to be destroy unto the end.
27.
וּמַלְכוּתָא וְשָׁלְטָנָא וּרְבוּתָא, דִּי מַלְכְוָת תְּחוֹת כָּל-שְׁמַיָּא, יְהִיבַת, לְעַם קַדִּישֵׁי עֶלְיוֹנִין; מַלְכוּתֵהּ, מַלְכוּת עָלַם, וְכֹל שָׁלְטָנַיָּא, לֵהּ יִפְלְחוּן וְיִשְׁתַּמְּעוּן.
umalchuta veshaletana urevuta, di malchevat techout kol-shemayya, yehivat, le'am kadishei elyonin; malchuteh, malchut alam, vechol shaletanayya, leh yiflechun veyishtam'un.
And the kingdom and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; their kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey them.'
28.
עַד-כָּה, סוֹפָא דִי-מִלְּתָא; אֲנָה דָנִיֵּאל שַׂגִּיא רַעְיוֹנַי יְבַהֲלֻנַּנִי, וְזִיוַי יִשְׁתַּנּוֹן עֲלַי, וּמִלְּתָא, בְּלִבִּי נִטְרֵת.
ad-ka, sofa di-milta; ana daniyel sagii ra'yonay yevahalunani, vezivay yishtannon alay, umilta, belibi nitret.
Here is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my thoughts much affrighted me, and my countenance was changed in me; but I kept the matter in my heart.
