שִׁמְעוּ אֶת-הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי נֹשֵׂא עֲלֵיכֶם קִינָה--בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל.
shim'u et-hadavar hazeh, asher anokhi noseh 'aleykhem kinah--beit Yisrael.
Hear ye this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel:

2.
נָפְלָה לֹא-תוֹסִיף קוּם, בְּתוּלַת יִשְׂרָאֵל; נִטְּשָׁה עַל-אַדְמָתָהּ, אֵין מְקִימָהּ.
Nafelah lo-tosif kum, betulat Yisrael; nit'shah al-admatah, ein mekimah.
The virgin of Israel is fallen, she shall no more rise; she is cast down upon her land, there is none to raise her up.
3.
כִּי כֹה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, הָעִיר הַיֹּצֵאת אֶלֶף תַּשְׁאִיר מֵאָה; וְהַיּוֹצֵאת מֵאָה תַּשְׁאִיר עֲשָׂרָה, לְבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל.
Ki koh amar Adonai YHWH, ha'ir hayotzet elef tash'ir me'ah; vehayotzet me'ah tash'ir asarah, leveit Yisrael.
For thus saith the Lord GOD: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, of the house of Israel.
4.
כִּי כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה, לְבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל: דִּרְשׁוּנִי, וִחְיוּ.
Ki koh amar YHWH, leveit Yisrael: dirshuni, vichyu.
For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel: Seek ye Me, and live;
5.
וְאַל-תִּדְרְשׁוּ, בֵּית-אֵל, וְהַגִּלְגָּל לֹא תָבֹאוּ, וּבְאֵר שֶׁבַע לֹא תַעֲבֹרוּ: כִּי הַגִּלְגָּל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה, וּבֵית-אֵל יִהְיֶה לְאָוֶן.
Ve'al-tidreshu, beit-el, vehagilgal lo tavo'u, ube'er sheva lo ta'avoru: ki hagilgal galoh yigleh, uveit-el yihyeh le'aven.
But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.
6.
דִּרְשׁוּ אֶת-יְהוָה, וִחְיוּ: פֶּן-יִצְלַח כָּאֵשׁ בֵּית יוֹסֵף, וְאָכְלָה וְאֵין-מְכַבֶּה לְבֵית-אֵל.
dirshu et-YHWH, vekhyu: pen-yitzlach ka'esh beit Yosef, ve'akhla ve'ein-mekabeh leveit-El.
Seek the LORD, and live--lest He break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be none to quench it in Bethel--
7.
הַהֹפְכִים לְלַעֲנָה, מִשְׁפָּט; וּצְדָקָה, לָאָרֶץ הִנִּיחוּ.
ha'hofkhim lela'anah, mishpat; utzedakah, la'aretz hini'u.
Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and cast righteousness to the ground;
8.
עֹשֵׂה כִימָה וּכְסִיל, וְהֹפֵךְ לַבֹּקֶר צַלְמָוֶת, וְיוֹם, לַיְלָה הֶחְשִׁיךְ; הַקּוֹרֵא לְמֵי-הַיָּם, וַיִּשְׁפְּכֵם עַל-פְּנֵי הָאָרֶץ--יְהוָה שְׁמוֹ.
oseh khimah ukhesil, ve'hofekh laboker tzalmavet, veyom, laylah hekhshikh; ha'koreh lemei-hayam, vayishpekhem al-penei ha'aretz--YHWH shemo.
Him that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and bringeth on the shadow of death in the morning, and darkeneth the day into night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth; the LORD is His name;
9.
הַמַּבְלִיג שֹׁד, עַל-עָז; וְשֹׁד, עַל-מִבְצָר יָבוֹא.
ha'mablig shod, al-atz; veshod, al-mivtzar yavo.
That causeth destruction to flash upon the strong, so that destruction cometh upon the fortress.
10.
שָׂנְאוּ בַשַּׁעַר, מוֹכִיחַ; וְדֹבֵר תָּמִים, יְתָעֵבוּ.
sane'u vashar, mokhiakh; vedover tamim, yeta'evu.
They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.
11.
לָכֵן יַעַן בּוֹשַׁסְכֶם עַל-דָּל, וּמַשְׂאַת-בַּר תִּקְחוּ מִמֶּנּוּ--בָּתֵּי גָזִית בְּנִיתֶם, וְלֹא-תֵשְׁבוּ בָם; כַּרְמֵי-חֶמֶד נְטַעְתֶּם, וְלֹא תִשְׁתּוּ אֶת-יֵינָם.
lakhen ya'an boshaskhem al-dal, umas'at-bar tikhu mimenu--bate gazit benitem, velo-teshevu vam; karmei-khemed neta'etem, velo tishtu et-yeinam.
Therefore, because ye trample upon the poor, and take from him exactions of wheat; ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them, ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine thereof.
12.
כִּי יָדַעְתִּי רַבִּים פִּשְׁעֵיכֶם, וַעֲצֻמִים חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם; צֹרְרֵי צַדִּיק לֹקְחֵי כֹפֶר, וְאֶבְיוֹנִים בַּשַּׁעַר הִטּוּ.
ki yada'ti rabim pish'ekhem, va'atsumim khatotekhem; tsorerei tsadik lokhhei khofer, ve'evyonim bashar hitu.
For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins; ye that afflict the just, that take a ransom, and that turn aside the needy in the gate.
13.
לָכֵן, הַמַּשְׂכִּיל בָּעֵת הַהִיא--יִדֹּם: כִּי עֵת רָעָה, הִיא.
lakhen, hamaskil ba'et hahi--yidom: ki et ra'ah, hi.
Therefore the prudent doth keep silence in such a time; for it is an evil time.
14.
דִּרְשׁוּ-טוֹב וְאַל-רָע, לְמַעַן תִּחְיוּ; וִיהִי-כֵן יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי-צְבָאוֹת, אִתְּכֶם--כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲמַרְתֶּם.
dirshu-tov ve'al-ra, lema'an tichyu; vihi-khen YHWH Elohei-tzeva'ot, itkhem--ka'asher amartem.
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live; and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you, as ye say.
15.
שִׂנְאוּ-רָע וְאֶהֱבוּ טוֹב, וְהַצִּיגוּ בַשַּׁעַר מִשְׁפָּט; אוּלַי, יֶחֱנַן יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי-צְבָאוֹת--שְׁאֵרִית יוֹסֵף.
sin'u-ra ve'ehevu tov, vehatzigu vasha'ar mishpat; ulay, yechenan YHWH Elohei-tzeva'ot--she'arit Yosef.
Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
16.
לָכֵן כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת, אֲדֹנָי, בְּכָל-רְחֹבוֹת מִסְפֵּד, וּבְכָל-חוּצוֹת יֹאמְרוּ הוֹ-הוֹ; וְקָרְאוּ אִכָּר אֶל-אֵבֶל, וּמִסְפֵּד אֶל-יוֹדְעֵי נֶהִי.
lakhen koh-amar YHWH Elohei tzeva'ot, Adonai, bekhol-rekhovot misped, uv'khol-chut zot yomru ho-ho; vekar'u ikar el-evel, umisped el-yode'ei nehi.
Therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord: Lamentation shall be in all the broad places, and they shall say in all the streets: 'Alas! alas!' and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and proclaim lamentation to such as are skilful of wailing.
17.
וּבְכָל-כְּרָמִים, מִסְפֵּד: כִּי-אֶעֱבֹר בְּקִרְבְּךָ, אָמַר יְהוָה.
uv'khol-keramim, misped: ki-e'evor bekirbekha, amar YHWH.
And in all vineyards shall be lamentation; for I will pass through the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
18.
הוֹי הַמִּתְאַוִּים, אֶת-יוֹם יְהוָה: לָמָּה-זֶּה לָכֶם יוֹם יְהוָה, הוּא-חֹשֶׁךְ וְלֹא-אוֹר.
Hoy hamitavim, et-yom YHWH: lamah-zeh lakhem yom YHWH, hu-khoshek velo-or.
Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! Wherefore would ye have the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light.
19.
כַּאֲשֶׁר יָנוּס אִישׁ מִפְּנֵי הָאֲרִי, וּפְגָעוֹ הַדֹּב; וּבָא הַבַּיִת--וְסָמַךְ יָדוֹ עַל-הַקִּיר, וּנְשָׁכוֹ הַנָּחָשׁ.
Ka'asher yanus ish mipnei ha'ari, u-fega'o hadov; u-va habayit--vesamakh yado al-ha-qir, uneshakho hanakhash.
As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; and went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
20.
הֲלֹא-חֹשֶׁךְ יוֹם יְהוָה, וְלֹא-אוֹר; וְאָפֵל, וְלֹא-נֹגַהּ לוֹ.
Halo-khoshek yom YHWH, velo-or; ve'afel, velo-nogah lo.
Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?
21.
שָׂנֵאתִי מָאַסְתִּי, חַגֵּיכֶם; וְלֹא אָרִיחַ, בְּעַצְּרֹתֵיכֶם.
Saneti ma'asti, khageikhem; velo ariakh, be'atzerotekhem.
I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
22.
כִּי אִם-תַּעֲלוּ-לִי עֹלוֹת וּמִנְחֹתֵיכֶם, לֹא אֶרְצֶה; וְשֶׁלֶם מְרִיאֵיכֶם, לֹא אַבִּיט.
ki im-ta'alu-li olot uminchotekhem, lo ertze; veshelem meri'eikhem, lo abit.
Yea, though ye offer me burnt-offerings and your meal-offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fat beasts.
23.
הָסֵר מֵעָלַי, הֲמוֹן שִׁרֶיךָ; וְזִמְרַת נְבָלֶיךָ, לֹא אֶשְׁמָע.
haser me'alay, hamon shirekha; vezimrat nevaleikhem, lo eshma.
Take thou away from Me the noise of thy songs; and let Me not hear the melody of thy psalteries.
24.
וְיִגַּל כַּמַּיִם, מִשְׁפָּט; וּצְדָקָה, כְּנַחַל אֵיתָן.
veyigal kammayim, mishpat; utzedakah, kenachal eitan.
But let justice well up as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
25.
הַזְּבָחִים וּמִנְחָה הִגַּשְׁתֶּם-לִי בַמִּדְבָּר, אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה--בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל.
hazzvachim uminchah higashtem-li bamidbar, arba'im shanah--beit Yisrael.
Did ye bring unto Me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
26.
וּנְשָׂאתֶם, אֵת סִכּוּת מַלְכְּכֶם, וְאֵת, כִּיּוּן צַלְמֵיכֶם--כּוֹכַב, אֱלֹהֵיכֶם, אֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶם, לָכֶם.
unesatem, et sikut malkekhem, ve'et, kiyun tsalmeykhem--kokhav, eloheykhem, asher asitem, lakhem.
So shall ye take up Siccuth your king and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.
27.
וְהִגְלֵיתִי אֶתְכֶם, מֵהָלְאָה לְדַמָּשֶׂק: אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי-צְבָאוֹת, שְׁמוֹ.
vehigleyti etykhem, mehalah ledamasek: amar YHWH elohey-tseva'ot, shemo.
Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith He, whose name is the LORD God of hosts.
